    17:00 almost breaks his neck demonstrating what not to do 😅
    This is an excellent video. I was about to put up grocery store stringers but I am inspired to do it right. We just bought a house and now I know that I am capable of doing a fabulous pro light install.
    Thank you!
    Ps, when I am on a ladder, I always try to maintain 3 points of contact. When climbing up or down, that is two feet and one hand/two hands and one foot.
    When I am working at the top of the ladder, I always keep my shin firm against the next rung, or sometimes I press both my knees outward to the rails on the ladder. It makes you nice and steady while working on something up there. Firming your legs to the ladder is as good as a third point of contact, once you get it right you will feel it.
    (I had a window washing business for 10 years. I was the designated 42’ ladder climber)

    Thank you, Brother Shane for a wonderful, wonderful and inspiring video. I have been wanting to light the exterior of my house for years but the professionals in my area are prohibitively expensive. This video and many of your other videos have given me the courage to do my own house for the first time this year. I have a two story house with a mansard roof which presents some unique challenges. Not the least of which is that I don't own a ladder tall enough to reach the top. It never occurred to me that I could rent one! Sure enough the home improvement stores in my area rent them very reasonably! Thank you very, very much for mentioning rental ladders!

    Putting the bulbs on the peaks make so much difference. When I was learning installs, my boss showed me pictures of several houses side by side and asked me to pick the better job. I picked the houses with peaks every time but didn't know why. When he showed me, it was suddenly obvious. Now, if I see a house that isn't peaked right, I want to go ring their doorbell and tell them to fire their installer.

    I happened upon this video accidentally, haha! I was trying to find a video that shows how to replace the bulbs in my landscape lighting, without any luck. My lights are uplighting that illuminate my house and the bulbs are halogen "PAR" 36watt.
    Could you PLEASE post a new video showing how to R & R the PAR bulbs? I would greatly appreciate it and You Tube greatly needs it too!!
    Thanks so much!

    • @lawnandlight
      @lawnandlight  2 года назад +2

      Amy. Thanks so much for your kind words. I understand getting lost in the RUclips rabbit hole and ending up somewhere totally different. Unfortunately I don’t have experience with PAR bulbs. All the landscape lighting we work with is LED.

    • @amyferris288
      @amyferris288 2 года назад

      @@lawnandlight Thanks for your reply! My lighting system is 20 years old so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that everything has gone to LED. Although I did see LED bulbs on Amazon that said they were PAR & equivalent to 36 watts. I'm almost positive that my bulbs are halogen because they put off enough heat to melt the snow off of them, which is nice. I thought about getting the LED version to reduce energy usage though, which I'm still debating.

    Suggestion about hiding the wire: In houses with vinyl siding and metal soffit, SPT wire will usually pressure-fit into the siding and soffit J-channel. I also try to go over the top of doors and along the top of the wall rather than down low.
    It's helpful to keep the wires away from ground-dwelling critters and prevent burial in potential snow/ice in areas that get such weather.

    • @lawnandlight
      @lawnandlight  2 года назад +2

      Great call whiplash. We don’t get snow here so that’s a pro tip! Have you ever had a squirrel chew your lines up on the roof?

    • @snidelywhiplash
      @snidelywhiplash 2 года назад

      @@lawnandlight I've been fortunate enough to avoid that, but I figure up higher you'd only have to contend with squirrels, where down low there's squirrels, rabbits (ugh), mice, etc. plus the other hazards.
      Tucking into the J-channel makes it a high-effort thing for them to gnaw on, and animals generally seem to prefer taking the easier route.

    Very interesting. A couple notes...
    It looked like you had two closer light sockets that you could've drawn power from. Also, I probably would've connected to power in the back of the house instead of the front.
    And you definitely should've tested those lights before stringing them up.

    • @lawnandlight
      @lawnandlight  2 года назад +1

      Astute points. Thanks for watching. Why the back instead of front?

    • @dis-springs
      @dis-springs 2 года назад +3

      @@lawnandlight -- In the back because who cares about exposed wires in the back.
      I'd also rather not mess with pushing wires and connectors under the siding. Or under the front doormat.

    • @lawnandlight
      @lawnandlight  2 года назад +2

      @@dis-springs good point there. Totally agreed to a certain extent. We just realized that the labor to hide the wire in the front vs the extra wire going to back is negligible. On bigger houses that could be over 100’ extra. We always just taught our guys to go ahead and hide it no matter if it was front or back for a professional appearance. You’re right, most people wouldn’t care. However a few do.

  • @DougTreff
    @DougTreff Год назад +1

    Suggestion/Question for the power supply cord. Based on where your wall outlet is located, wouldn't it have been better to run the power cord straight up to where you put in that jumper and then power that one segment right-to-left across the garage, then go left-to-right for the rest of the roof line? Basically you would have been supplying power into the middle of the run instead of the end. Would have made the power cord run a lot shorter and less wire to hide.

I have a question, do you have any recommendations for clips to hang lights on a metal roof? the edge of my roof is flat and smooth and doesn't have a lip to grasp, traditional clips just slide right off with any amount of wind that catches them just right. How reliable are magnetic clips in your opinion?
