It takes a person with experience to stand up to someone like Alec. People probably tried to override Hannah. The production staff and try to do things their way. There were people who brought live ammo and that was when Hannah should have gotten those people fired and removed from set.
But no one was going to listen to her with her inexperience. I think other people were shooting live ammo during breaks and it got mixed up with the dummy rounds. There should have been a separate propmaster and the production also didn’t have adequate completion insurance. Had this been a well funded project Halyna should have been able to remote operate the camera had she needed a shot that close. Production was trying to save costs all around.
Alec was also dumb to be posturing with a gun that he hadn’t checked himself. The AD also called cold gun when it wasn’t cold. More than one person should be held responsible. Halyna didn’t need to be in that position she was in the wrong place in the wrong time with no workplace protections.

Since all ammo must be purchased from a licensed prop house, as well as the guns. Theres a definite issue of how it got on set. Also the OSHA investigation and determination was a willful and deliberately negligent ignoring of industry standards, protocols and laws by the production company and producers. The determination was over 11 pages long and sited numerous instances of deliberate ignoring of laws regarding notification to OSHA of near misses, such as the 2 accidental discharges, and the small explosive device that went off by accident. It also details Reed asking for training days for Baldwin, other actors and stunt doubles before and after the weapon discharges but was refused that time. It also states that Reed was hired/contracted for 8 days as an armorer and when the time was up she let them know that they still had guns in use nearly every day of scheduled filming and that she should be on site and present during filming, they refused to increase her armorer days, in fact they stated that she spent to much time on her armorer duties and not enough time as a prop assistant to the prop master. They also apparently sent text messages or emails pressuring Reed not to notify anyone about the accidental discharges. The OSHA report is very damning and will definitely be a key piece of evidence in any court case...

@@joyhouse4625 Ok for clarity blank rounds do not have an actual projectile/lead bullet but they have gun powder and do fire. They are crimped at the top and are shorter than a normal round. A dummy round and a live round look like each other, in fact a dummy round is made from either a live round they took apart and removed the powder and primer from, or that they literally took an used (meaning already fired casing) brass that they drilled a hole in the side, leaving the gun powder out of and adding a bb where the gun powder would have been and reattached a projectile/bullet.There by making that round inoperable and safe. Dummy rounds are handmade from either a spent used casing/ brass, from a brand new brass/casing, or taking a live round that was dismantled and remade. They place a BB in side the empty casing/brass, drill a hole in the casing or they leave the primer out of it, the primer is either an inert used one or its left off completely leaving a hole where it should be, then they press a bullet back on. Blanks can be purchased through ammunition manufacturers or can be handmade. The only way to tell a live round from a dummy round is by either the rattle it makes because of the bb inside, the drilled hole in the side, or the hole left because they left the primer off of it. Who ever made the dummy round may have used all the identification methods or just one. Hope that helped you understand how to identify the difference.

Those with no primers, those with dented primers, and those with primers that may not be real but look real for when they are put in a gun belt or in a scene where they might be visible. I also know about the hole in the side but apparently not all dummies have a hole which means they can be only detected by the rattle. Hannah says she loaded four dummies from her pocket with no primers. The other two came from a new box of dummies that arrived on set that morning and she shook both of them and they rattled. I don't know what the detective and Hannah are looking at when they spoke of "the silver" on the suspected live rounds. Do the suspected live rounds rattle?

Depending on the type of powder and the amount of powder used, it is possible to hear the powder moving in the cartridge when shaken. It is not the same sound that a BB makes in the same cartridge that is empty.
A cartridge with a small amount of smokeless powder, a real primer, a BB and a cast lead bullet may make a sound that could be confused with a dummy round, especially if the armorer was unfamiliar with the new box of dummy rounds with no hole in them.

It would appear to me, that somebody that works at the company that manufactures prop ammo, was cranking out live rounds for personal use, and got them mixed up with an order that shipped to the prop house.
OR, somebody at the prop house did the same - took spent casings, and reloaded them for personal use.
If crew members wanted to "play" with the guns offset, there's plenty of places to buy live ammo from locally. But these being the exact same casings as those used for the dummy rounds, either it was an accident, or it wasn't.
Before getting this job, she probably didn't know any of the crew from Adam, so if this was an intentional killing, she doesn't have much of a motive.

Of course, my theories only explain one way for live rounds to end up on set, but it does NOT explain how they ended up in the firearm, and the fact that Baldwin still pulled the trigger without clearing the firearm first - the actual shooting still falls on him.
I have a friend that's an actress, and has been in the business since the early '80's: she's handled everything from handguns to machineguns, to LAW's many times on set (and did recently, on a tv series), and even she has gone through firearms training courtesy of the various production companies involved, as well as refresher classes. Of course, that procedure varies by production company and budget: some do it - along with sending the cast to a range, others rely on armorers to teach the basics.
In this case, it appears Baldwin went with the latter route, probably because of the fact that he HAS handled firearms several times in his career. But again, he was the LAST person to handle the firearm, and he failed to clear it first.

"This company doesn't produce live rounds."
Well, I hate to contradict the detective, but other companies DO produce live rounds using Starline brass. Starline brass is famous among the cowboy action, lever action, revolver crowd. They make amazing brass. Steinel Ammunition makes multiple products using brand new Starline brass as their casings. I have purchased this ammunition myself. So there is such thing as Starline brass, factory ammunition. Whether or not the ammunition on set was made by Steinel, or any other factory loading, is another matter entirely.

I'm no Baldwin fan, but the actor in a movie where they are given a "prop gun", and supposed to shoot it according to the script, is not culpable for what Baldwin is charged for. And even the negligence of producers. The only person culpable is the person paid to load and check the gun and signs off on its readiness for the scene. She was literally hired, and paid to do one job. Actors are not paid to do other people's jobs...check harneses, and apply for permits and ask if it's legal to shoot somewhere decide if a stunt is doable etc. Professionals are hired for each thing. She was supposed to be the professional in charge of the gun. I think it is ridiculous Baldwin was charged with anything. Imagine they had ordered Taco Bell and someone died from ecoli, and Taco Bell was like... nope... wasn't us. Put the actor in the movie in jail because some producers ordered lunch for everyone. It's the same logic.

To those young or inexperienced, who may try to find apologies for her and saying the production company made her or prevented her for doing this or that; please learn and understand ASAP, that is not how things work in life.
The buck stops with her. She is the captain of her ship and a good captain understand NOT to let ANYONE interfere with HIS/HER responsibility.
IF the production company went around her back and subsequently she did not protest or quit in protest, then the resulting problems are still her responsibility.
That is how things work in life. People who hold responsibilities can never unload their responsibilities to their getting wrong orders from their superiors of even having been outright set up by their superiors.
So the lesson here is (and please accept this, because this is how it works in real life): if you have a position of responsibility, then be prepared to stand up and fight for it or quit! That is what ALL professions do! She was clearly weak and amateurish if she let others go over her head and let other interfere with her responsibilities.
Otherwise prepare to make the same mistakes as her and accept the same consequences.

So you have armor experience?? I was an armor in the army.. Bullets are never inside of an armory. Only empty weapons. They are in separate locations for a reason. Oh, also. You get the weapons from one person and bullets from another. It's not an armors job to load the weapon, or do anything else besides check them in, and out. Unless this lady loaded the weapon, put it into alec's hand, and told him to point it at the director and pull the trigger... Its not her fault! Even if things unfolded that way it would still be his dumbass fault!

    • @mrtopcat2
      @mrtopcat2 2 года назад +1

@@jacobdonaldson436 First and foremost, thank you for your service.
On another note, since you have brought up your experience, please consider how do your experience as armorer in the army and responsibilities do NOT relate to the responsibilities of an armorer on a movie set. Therefore, while your reasoning may make sense in your trade, it may be entirely irrelevant on a movie set.
Secondly, my original post was mainly aimed at the concept that responsibilities do exist, they are assigned and that those who these responsibilities are assigned to are needing to take and accept those responsibilities. I trust you do not you disagree with the concept. But then again why or on what basis did you feel necessary to interject your objections? Or was that perhaps a bit too fast after all?
There was a great post here by someone, who has worked as part of the team in similar situations. He correctly pointed out that the lives of EVERYONE on set are in the hands of the armorer. EVERYONE at EVERY moment does trust that all those weapons on the set are going work exactly as planned. You should familiarize yourself with how things and responsibilities work on the movies. In my younger years, I have worked on movies for a number of years as a photographer. Although never on a movie where scenes with firearms in the movie were present.

@mrtopcat2 Actually, if anything, your statement is the one that sounds wildly young, naive and inexperienced- and frankly sounds like you've never been put in any high-stress work environment or had any kind of real responsibility put on you.
When the stakes get high, and employees are pushed to their limits (low wages, lack of sleep, long hours, etc.) the accountability and responsibility is collectively shared among everybody involved in the project. There's been countless historical examples proving this- the Chernobyl disaster is by far the most notorious- and this is precisely the reason certain industries unionize.
The film industry is notorious for exploiting and pressuring people who aren't big enough fish to defend themselves and their rights against the influence that the exposure to a big film star, music star, production, or movie might bring. Sure, I'd bet her inexperience and general complacency contributed to this accident, so she's not innocent... but to absolve the production, the producers, the director, or whomever else was a decision maker on this project from their crimes is outlandish and completely shortsighted. It's actually hilarious and ironic you use the line "the buck stops with her" since that phrase is literally used to imply that there's nobody else up the food chain to counteract or correct her decision making. Think before you speak bud.

Safety redundancy with guns in a movie set is a must. The armorer is not qualified to handle guns, should be as liable as the person that pulls the trigger. Any person that uses a gun at any situation must to know how to properly use it and be liable for ANY results of pulling the trigger.

It’s difficult to mix up live rounds with blanks and not see the difference…the fault is the armourers.
Even if there where live rounds on set the armourer should have made absolutely sure there where no live rounds in the weapon.
Pleading ignorance isn’t a reasonable defence.
