Great effort ..! however I personally prefer the Euro version of the timing install it's way easier NONE OF those cam gear MARKS MATTER !! Factory doesn't line anything up using those marks ( they are designed for a timing belt verification and reinstall of the timing belt after ) NOTE: as long as your cams are locked in place ( at the back of the cam ) and your crank is set to the right spot . a) tighten the hubs right away and istall the T55 plugs b) turn the hubs all the way clockwise c) set the ( fine adjustments )bolts on the gears in the middle of the slots d) install the belt and choose a proper tooth so the bolts are still in the middle and you have enough tension e) put a T55 in a plug and push on it clockwise while pressing on the belt counterclockwise creating pre tension..do that on both cams and tighten the 8mm bolts (.should be somewhere in the middle ) f) set the pre tension on the tensioner to the spec h) draw your own marks on the cam gear and on the belt to align with the marks on the plastic cover g) remove the locking tool and spin the crank twice ...then right after push the locking tool back in place at the back of the cam those slots and notches should line up and then look at your newly drawn marks IF everything lines up then you're done ! takes 5 minutes !👍🏻
I was bit confused at the end, he says lossen the 8mm bolts turn inner gear clock wise but judging by his hand movements looks like its counter-clockwise to clockwise then back to counter-clockwise or like im advancing twice in before the belt and again after the belt is installed
Will, that is the best explanation on how to set the dual VVT I have every viewed on RUclips! I am installing my head back on my S60 2.5t dual VVT this week and need the refresher since it’s been 5 years since the first head gasket replacement.
All other videos made this job seem insanely more difficult that it really is. If i understand it correctly, as long as i have the vvt fully advanced and and everything lined up in the end im all good.
best thing to do is get a cam locking tool and some tie straps to properly to hold in place when replacing the timing belt. set the VVT you need a holding tool that locks the back of the cams in place, you may end up bending a valve with this method. good luck.
As long as you turn the engine over by hand a few rotations before starting it you don’t need to worry about bending the valves. Not sure how a cam locking tool would work if you pulled the head and then needed to use this procedure.
@@ST3ADYxKICKS enough compression in these engines to bend valves just by cranking engine with a breaker bar unfortunately. Can't rely on that method anymore.
I have to fix Volvo with 2 gears cvvt and I watch and watch this video to understand everything but still I think I did a mistake... After monting belt I tight big bolt inside the gears. Tomorrow i will open again and check

a) tighten the hubs right away and istall the T55 plugs
b) turn the hubs all the way clockwise
c) set the ( fine adjustments )bolts on the gears in the middle of the slots
d) install the belt and choose a proper tooth so the bolts are still in the middle and you have enough tension
e) put a T55 in a plug and push on it clockwise while pressing on the belt counterclockwise creating pre tension..do that on both cams and tighten the 8mm bolts (.should be somewhere in the middle )
f) set the pre tension on the tensioner to the spec
h) draw your own marks on the cam gear and on the belt to align with the marks on the plastic cover
g) remove the locking tool and spin the crank twice ...then right after push the locking tool back in place at the back of the cam those slots and notches should line up and then look at your newly drawn marks IF everything lines up then you're done !

+ one, do this
Great video. The timing is the only thing ive struggled with on these engines and this man does a great job breaking it down. Thank you Sir!!!!
Did you get it to run right?

I've watched this twice and have absolutely no idea what it is you're trying to explain. It makes zero sense.

Glad it helped!

Exactly that!
What if i rolled the cam wheel backwards while putting on cam tool?
Nice video!
Thanks!

What year and model Volvo you working on?

Can I pay you to do my xc70? I’m local.
Sorry man I've been focused on so many other things lately I barely have time
Wow.. I thought this was going to be informative 🙄
Apparently it was to a bunch of other people. Your brain must not process information or something. 🙄
