These sleds are amazing. A single carbed, fan cooled monster of an engine. I still don't know how these made so much power season after season. Just a basic snowmobile. We beat that sled to death and it NEVER gave up. I think my friend still has it after 30 years...
I just got one of these looks exactly the same thing only has 223 on the odometer I’m about to start messing with it and this video tells me literally everything I need to know
Nice find. I got a 1981 Everest 500 I bought for 50 bucks 8 years ago and I use it for ice fishing or bombing through the fields with. Very reliable engine on them
My dad bought a 69 Olympic when I was very young. It was broke more than it ran so I learned a lot of mechanical skills as a kid. It's hard to believe the evolution that took place over that 10 year span. I'm looking for one too but we don't get winter like we used to where I live. Good luck finding a deal like this one!
Fun little sled. Store it well off season now. Green lantern gas baby! Thanks so much for the carb clean part and Fuel filter and rest, I have to do all that for my 1985 Artic Cat Panther. Very helpful! I'm on Day 5 of zee bug. Mines pull start only but oil injected and fan cooled not air cooled like the Pantera Artic Cat. Has hand warmers! ooh lah, lah! How are your disk break adjust? I have to sort that out on mine. No breaks. My coworker says, "Why do you need breaks on a snowmobile?". terrific video guy!
Excellent video! I actually have one too, 1981 Everest 500 electro. Still runs great and requires little maintenance. Sometimes we don't get enough snow every year, so even sitting for 2-3 years at a time, I can put fresh gas in and it starts right up. These things are beasts. Your idle still sounds a little high, (compared to mine) either that or the fuel/air mixture might need tweaked a bit yet. But looks like it's running well for you and great to see another one out there. Enjoy!
33:56 Thank you...I got mine going last year (1980 Mirage ll) but the fuel system is still not right...I thought that was a check valve coming out of the tank, but I never tried cleaning the blockage out. Thanks again! ( I have a video on my channel)
Young guy, nicely done! Have you greased the skid? Checked the bearings in the idler wheels and the wheels that tension the track? Please, consider covering these machines. Just a tarp, something.
I used to have an Everest 440, but I think mine was a 74. Mine had issues, had a shop replace all the seals and gaskets and never got it completely back together before I had to sell it to move. Never got to ride it. But it came with a 76 panther 440, that one I got to ride😢
Id be interested to see how the fuel primer lines are connected. Mine has a primer, but the lines are all gone. Im not sure where they are meant to go?
If I'm not mistaken, that is the exhaust pipe for the engine fan cowl. Hot air blown over the engine exits through there out into the exhaust. The Everest seems to be one of the few sleds I can find with this type of setup
The fuel pump is operated off the engine vacuum.... The engine must be sealed up in running position inorder to work. Think of it as a closed circuit .

Nice job I just love the looks of theses old skidoos
dude, pretty sure that's a 1980, it may have a 1979 tag on it, but it was made for the 1980 model year. awesome sled. 496cc fan cooled GREAT VIDEO !!
You got a real and a half man wow great find...👍👍👍👍👍 Keep those sleds off the ground and under cover man!
I just got one of these looks exactly the same thing only has 223 on the odometer I’m about to start messing with it and this video tells me literally everything I need to know
You will love that 503
Great find!! Those 503 engines are awesome!! 😎👍
Nice everest we had a lot of skidoo and motoski snowmobiles of that Ara and loved every one of them.

Nice save on the old girl!! Should be fun!
Hey, nicely done on the sled. Like your no quit attitude on figuring out solutions to the many problems. Enjoy the vintage sled.
You don’t want to use carb cleaner on gaskets or rubber. It degrades it. Nice video man!😊
God I love those skidoos with the primers… once I had a primer Inalways HATED chokes lol
I have one of those sleds
Excellent!... I've been working on those things since the 60's. Retired now and looking for a project sled....but can never find a deal like that!

Right on buddy!!

Old sled,, is in excellent shape,,keep old girl,,it's worth your money
Nice job troubleshooting that old girl!
You need a in tank valued filter ,the green more expensive gas line ,you need to put grommet in first before anything goes it threw
you have a future as a snowmobile mechanic in Northern Minnesota! He's like forget MN, I live in Maine!
Had a 81 nice 👍

Those are great old sleds. I owned a few back in the day and they can take alot of abuse. pre mix is the way to go with those 496cc fan cooled motors.
That original fuel filter acts as a weight as well. That keeps it on the bottom
When it kicks in? 11:30.
Also, wow. I just bought a minivan and it's got these kind of Wiley wiring issues. Working them out slowly but shirley.
You should always take the belt off when working on a sled. Less resistance with it off
Young guy, nicely done!
Have you greased the skid?
Checked the bearings in the idler wheels and the wheels that tension the track?
Please, consider covering these machines. Just a tarp, something.

Nice thing about Fan coolers, u don't need snow !
Id be interested to see how the fuel primer lines are connected. Mine has a primer, but the lines are all gone. Im not sure where they are meant to go?
Maine registered. Where abouts did you find that old Dozer? I still dig the sleds from that era because those are the ones I grew up with.
I'm working on a 1991 Ski Doo Mach 1
Engine 503 ? Good motor
You had one in the field. Put new fuel lines in it.
i noticed maine tags on sled. you from maine??
Did you buy that sled off a guy in Newport?
Future put either a bunch of nuts or rocks in ggv as in tank n slosh it in tank to clean crap out.
why does some of the exhaust pipe go back to the engine
If I'm not mistaken, that is the exhaust pipe for the engine fan cowl. Hot air blown over the engine exits through there out into the exhaust. The Everest seems to be one of the few sleds I can find with this type of setup
How to space a space of lubricant on a recoil starter so it retracts cause this body ducks public rightful crude
Missing a spring or two down on the pipe n header ! Juss sayn.
The fuel pump is operated off the engine vacuum....
The engine must be sealed up in running position inorder to work.
Think of it as a closed circuit .
Recoil spring?
Fuel gage on side of tank tells you how much fuels in it, download a owners manual.
Those nippendenso ignitions on those sleds are few and far between can't get them anywhere take care of it.
Check air box before starting engine
You know the carbs are plugged probably?? No guess not it started
The old 503 fan cooled engine. Make sure you do not run that with out the fan belt or it will go poof. Should be a 70mph sled.
First step....fix the recoil starter!
You have to connect a battery directly
Get a fuel filter for a weed eater. They act like a weight so it's always at the bottom of the tank
its weighted filter only or it has a some sort of valve in it !
Id say you got a steal of a deal ull still ha e problems but it runs it drives it stops
Won't work with jumpers...too much resistance!
I'm not going to comment on this anymore, lol!!!
Wont' carbureat properly without airbox!
You don't even own a ratchet?....step away from the sled!
Take it easy buddy holy shit
