I started uploading to stock sites in February 2023 and made around $1,000 that year, in 2024 I made around $18,000 with the majority of that made in the last 6 months of the year. There is real money to be made but it requires a lot of work, I do all of it in the evenings along side running a full time business. I'm glad I got into selling stock footage, I really enjoy the process.
Seems like RUclips won't let me reply with a link, if you Google search 'Shutterstock Capturing Adventure' you will see a link to 'Porrfilio by Capturing Adventure'. That's my page name. @@ChristopherIan
Thanks for the suggestions and tips. One question: Can you upload the same clips to multiple sites, or do you have to re-record the clips for each site?
Thanks for this. One quick question is shooting raw definitely the way to go? It cost £900 to get pro res raw licence on my camera and I’ve been actively putting it off but if most people want it then maybe I should.
I started this summer (7 months ago, adding more and more until december, and with only maybe one hundred clips i made 2500usd on artgrid and motion array. Some shots made it to the top sellings of the platorms. I worked on it only 10 days approximately, and it should be 7000usd/year. 10 days, wich will make me 70grand after 10 years ! i really have to tale a break from doing adverts and spend 2 full months on it !
How do you pay the talents you hire for the stage wedding? I am keen stage some corporate scenes with hired talents too but I don't know how much to pay them. Also, do you ask them to sign a talent release form? How about the question of loading? I understand that some talents will ask for more if they think the video would be use on different platforms.
Considering AI video has only just started in the last month, I would say it's too early to call it that AI is not destroying stock video sites. I honestly believe getting into this right now would be quite futile, and the the next two years will only be highly niche or news relevant. Create an update video in one year?
many people will stil prefer reality stock footage instead of AI video. Maybe the stock footage market will lose like 50% (just guessing), but never all of it. Artgrid will still be interesting even with 50% less.
It's too early to fill the impact of AI because AI video gen tools are still somewhat experimental. I think real stock footage still has its demand because it is real and authentic. But as AI generated video gets better, competition will be intense. It is definitely way cheaper to generate an AI video footage. Both have their appeal depending on the use case.
interesting about art grid. i use artlist/grid for music and stock when needed, but I just pay the annual fee for "unlimited" use. It feels like it's probably some sort of revenue share combined with everybody else that also has their stock footage vs a payment per download.
yes. for my case it was aroung 30ct/download approximately. seems low, but i got so much downloads. i started this year and spent only 10 days on it, and it should make me 7000usd next year, based on december stats. (only 2500 this year, but i started in june, and continued uploading after until november).
Hey Matt, thanks for the great vid! I have a question. I have been selling lower quality stock on BlackBox for a couple of years and have thousands online. But your relatively low quanity tops all my income by far! So my question is: With my higher quality footage, which stock site would you recommend? Do you have experience with film supply for example? Thanks!
Hey Matt, does Artgrid requires you to be exclusive with them? Or have you uploaded the same clips in the other stock websites as well? And what are your thoughts regarding platforms like Blackbox? Thanks a lot for the insights!! :)
Matt, when you say you shot horizontal and then flipped to vertical, is that from a PHONE or one of your pro cams? IS IT POSSIBLE to sell 4k footage from a Galaxy S24? Thanks!
Hi. Do you recommend this K&F Concept 64 inch/163cm Camera Tripod? What backpack can you recommend on Amazon that doesn't exceed the airline's size limit for taking on the plane? Thanks
I started 20 years ago. It made me about $100 a year considering that I upload to multiple sites. It's a lot of hard work. The reality is you need to have the right content i.e Caucasian Models, Office interiors settings, styling, make-up in order to sell... It's not for everybody especially if you are coming from outside America or Europe. Don't be bitten by the passive income dream.... haha
I tend to agree. It's certainly not easy as it sounds like. And, selling stock video/photo makes really little money given the intense competitions at every stock content platforms.
Ai footage looks like shit. and i think it will still look like shit in 2025. but it is getting better. Google VEO looks quite promising. also, for lots of content, we want real footage. location for instance. depends on the need of people. But i'm sure even in 2050 people will still use classic stock footage, because the use of reality will always be needed.

is blackbox not good one to upload to?
It sure is. I'm uploading to blackbox all the time. Basically 250-300 clips per month
@@BjornSummer yes, but how much money do you get from it ? i uploaded some clip to blackbox, and they make maybe 10 to 100x less than on artgrid only.
@@BjornSummer That's a ton. I've signed up with them but never followed through. How profitable have you found it?

I was expecting more info from this video. The way it is now, it could've been a 2min video, or even just a table in a community post.

Are you shooting these vertical clips handheld? How are you able to switch between horizontal and vertical so fast?
Yup mostly handheld or with a gimbal that can switch back and forth quickly
What camera should I buy to begin filming and selling my stock footage?
Hey Matt, does Artgrid requires you to be exclusive with them? Or have you uploaded the same clips in the other stock websites as well? And what are your thoughts regarding platforms like Blackbox? Thanks a lot for the insights!! :)
nope not exclusivity.
and blackbox is easier to enter, but less less less income (like 10 to 100x less for the same clips). and so much more time consuming to upload clips.

Does Artlist/Artgrid have a DaVinci plug in for music/video like Epidemic has for music?
No but Adobe stock has a plugin for premiere
@whoismatt That actually makes sense. I have Premiere and DaVinci... So I should definitely use this more!
NO. I would not like my footage to be used to help generate AI media.
You’d think there would have been an email or separate waiver to sign for model building. I’d def not be happy either ..
I do :) making really good income from it 😊
