"How do I know I'm not hallucinating?" was such a great line because EVERYONE who was watching this at the time was thinking that same thing.

"Cause I am the most screwed up person in the world"
Hugh Laurie just took it to another level with the delivery of this line.Wow

From start to finish, the best of many great episodes, perhaps one of the very best in TV history. Difficult to watch and an emotional rollercoaster, especially the amputation scene, it's one that has stayed with me over the years. Great acting by Hugh & Lisa. In a way, I wish they ended the show after this. I think it would have been the perfect 'happy' ending.

The show peaked here, it should've ended here. Breaking up with House when he had trouble fixing himself was cruel. He was vulnerable, and she just tossed him away. I wished they never did season 7.

That was due to the problems on actress' part. Hadn't she quit, who knows how it would've turned out.

I completely agree. After all they went through, and eventually ended up together, they should have been end game. The writers should have written it that way, whether the actress was leaving the show or not. She knew he was screwed up. Was unfair for her to toss him after one mistake. That’s stupid writing.

@@millisagingerich1248At that point no. Its fine if it was in S1 or 2, maybe even 3. But for the final season, no. Edelstein WAS Cuddy, there was no recasting her at that point. They shouldve just paid her fairly like she asked.

This is how House should have ended. Perfect ending and perfect character's development from being a jerk in 1 to 4 season, being assaulted by guilt feelings because of Amber and Kutner death in season 5 and finally being a normal and a lovely man in season 6 because of Cuddy. Season 7 and 8 are so pointless.

I honestly like all seasons, and season 8 is actually very interesting especially in the beginning and towards the end. I don't like how they ended house and cuddy, I don't have a problem with them ending it but I have a problem with how they did it.

This was a great example of a series where the writers all wanted to end it after season 6 and the executives wanted to keep it going beyond the point where quality content could be made. You'll notice that entirely different writers were involved in seasons 7 and 8.
When it comes to the final episode, the way it was meant to end was thus:
There's a crane collapse (9/11-style disaster) and House goes in. We find out that House had been in NYC on 9/11 and it is the first and last reference to 9/11 in the series (somehow never came up anywhere in the series.) There was a lot of discussion of secondary collapse in the actual episode. The original script called for House to be killed in the secondary collapse (which actually happened in the episode.) In the original version, he convinces Hannah to amputate just prior to the collapse and he insists that she crawl out ahead of him. This choice causes House to be crushed but enables Hannah to live.
Cuddy is driven to guilt House's death and breaks up with Lucas. Hannah discovers she is pregnant and declares that she intends to name her son Greg in House's honor. Cuddy decides to close the PPTH diagnostics department as there is no one able or willing to attempt to step into House's shoes and the episode ends with an acoustic version of The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony. A janitor is seen scraping the letters off of his office door and is shown walking down a long hallway with his mop and bucket and when the janitor rounds the corner and disappears from view, it cuts to a special version of the credits which run over the still of the empty, dimmed hallway rather than a black background and the acoustic version of Bittersweet Symphony continues to play over the credits rather than the usual outro music. The special credits include important actors who played roles in the earlier seasons such as Sela Ward, Chi McBride, etc. followed by the usual 'special thanks' stuff. How I wish it could have ended respectably.
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, that's life
    Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money, then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet, yeah
