    I never realized how good those Dingwall bass guitars sound. They sound 1000x better as a DI track than my cheap bass after processing. Crazy.

      I just got my 2nd bass which was a Harley Benton 6 string, finally able to record, and was so upset when I realised that even after ridiculous processing, it still sounds ..wrong. It might be because it needs a set up but hopefully I can also improve the tightness of my play as that makes worlds of difference

    Hey Nolly... After years of Superior Drummer and EZ Drummer user I decided to get the GGD Drums collection.I am very pleased with the direct result that I get and this is what matters to me.Of course watching with interest your video and I congratulate you for the way you explain them to. But I think a video will be more accessible to many friends if you use stock plug-ins.And I say this because they may not have much money to buy a Fabfilter or Slate D plug-ins. Thnks anyway !!!!!

    I very much appreciate the demonstration of nuanced approach here. To my untrained ears, the mixing moves are incredibly subtle. I'm definitely a fan of scooped sounds though. Biggest takeaway for me is how good the mix sounds without any EQ moves. It also highlights how the writing, arrangement and performance of parts are intricately and inextricably linked to the mix and how important they are to the final mix - i.e. if the song is poor, mixing wizardry might fix it but seems unlikely...or at least would make it certainly more challenging.
    I would love to know your thoughts on mixing synth or orchestral parts into tracks like Epica or Celldweller.

    love the vids, can just say, would you plz try to toggle the plug ins in the middle of parts more and less often as like chords are changing or what not, can be hard to hear the difference when your not as familiar with the music i think, if the toggles at the "more developing moments" than more static parts, i realise its mostly metal haha but i often find my self having to listen a few times to notice when its done on a change . cheers nolly

  • @Andyw1228
    @Andyw1228 3 года назад

    Great content with insights. Personally, I would have kept more of the bass DI tone for this kind of music. I think one of the best bass sounds has Iron Maiden which is not much overdriven. Any overdrive dampens the low end in some way, because overdrive are harmonic distortion which add squares to a nice warm bass. But that’s totally personal taste.
    The drum kit sounds really usable out of the box, I only have to criticize the kick drums. They sound too high imho or clicky- I can’t describe it otherwise.

    • @wainsotikhemprai2267
      @wainsotikhemprai2267 2 года назад +1

      It depends upon on you to get the sound you need , Architect DRUMKIT is based on Dan's Drums sampling , which is a metalcore band , get that in your mind

    What makes the FG-Grey better than the SSL-Style-Logic-Stock-Compressor?

    • @grimzee
      @grimzee 3 года назад

      There is a hi pass filter feature on the FG-grey that allows the compressor to ignore the kick drum and focus on ducking the snare. There is no hi pass filter on the waves ssl comp, which means its going to be compressing the low end of the kick/bass. This can sometimes cause excessive pumping from the low end.

    • @grimzee
      @grimzee 3 года назад +1

      You can get really similar results with the logic one he uses in this video though

    • @kebbinator
      @kebbinator 3 года назад +3

      The FG-Grey is modelling an SSL bus comp modded with a Neve transformer, so I find it adds more harmonic colouration than other SSL bus comp emulations like the Logic or Waves ones.
      The FG-Grey sounds a lot like the Dramastic Audio Obsidian to my ear.

    • @TheRealFoxeR
      @TheRealFoxeR 3 года назад

      @@kebbinator I always say that the compressors in Logic are inspired by the sources, not emulated. Either way, probably the best stock plugin in Logic.
