- In this video Nolly sits down and shows you just how much (or lack thereof) processing is needed to make the One Kit Wonder: Aggressive Rock library sit perfectly in the mix.

That slow cam reveal at 6mins....Spielberg-esque
lool :D
Thought I was trippin
Another masterclass available to anyone. If only people knew the value this provides. So grateful, cheers.
I never realized how good those Dingwall bass guitars sound. They sound 1000x better as a DI track than my cheap bass after processing. Crazy.
My old bassist used one. Set him back about £2000. You get what you pay for I guess ha
I just got my 2nd bass which was a Harley Benton 6 string, finally able to record, and was so upset when I realised that even after ridiculous processing, it still sounds ..wrong. It might be because it needs a set up but hopefully I can also improve the tightness of my play as that makes worlds of difference
Nolly you truly are the bald Jesus of teaching. So informative with a minimalistic approach. Thanks a lot!
I really like the way Nolly is showing is knowledge! It is really precise and simple at the same time! Good job on thoses videos series!
No one :
Nolly : *makes a video about a new GGD kit, spends most of his time explaining how he mixed the bass, guitars and other technical compression stuff*
Just riffin haha! Goes to show how much thought these guys have put into a mix-ready product. Keep chuggin these out!
Nolly’s knowledge are always gold! Thanks for that
Every time Nolly makes a mix rundown, my mixes reach another level just from listening to all the insights. King!
Also feels great to have the Middle Farm sound, without having to travel the kilometers to said location haha
perfect, nice one *nollus maximus*
I buy all GGD plugins to show my support. Thanks Nolly!, . . and Misha, . .and everyone from Periphery aa well! -You guys do your homework, . . like legit man.. ..all u guys freakin' rock! . .Been digging the Fusion Kit btw, finally getting ready to download the Rock kit , I already know it's gonna be bangin'! -much appreciated
Nolly mate my mixes have jumped into another level because of years watching your videos and applying the princilples I learned from here to there to NTM and everywhere. Hoping one day to meet you and give you a bottle of wine and do one cheers.
This is terrific! I've learned more from watching Nolly videos than any in person experience! I wish there was a Nolly recording/engineering/producing course. I really hope it's a thing one day! Absolute legend!!!
That riff is actually sick! I know your standards might be higher, but I thought the mix sounded great! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge; my mixes improved drastically after watching your session of "Nail The Mix", and these mixing tutorials are some of my favorite videos you all at GGD make!
Just want to ay a huge thanks to Nolly for these videos. They have really helped with my mixing skills - Love this aggressive rock kit!
that bit at the end was like a 1 on 1 mix crit. amazing!
The amount of knowledge you share is fantastic. So very helpful and clearly communicated. Thank you so much!
GGD has taught me so much. Please continue with mixing run-throughs. Perhaps even some tutorials? Everything you guys do is amazing and the best I’ve seen in the industry. Thank you ever so much, you inspire me so much 😁
That riff at 17:11 is so cool
This is amazing as always. Nolly is so descriptive with his sounds :p
These videos have been such a life saver for me. Thank you for putting these together. You rock
Hell yes those eq moves sound so good in the mix! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Those explanations are all super clear, sounds so straightforward when Nolly shows it, cool! 🤟🏻
Nolly makes everything sounds good.👍
Thanks Nolly. Always learning something new from your walkthroughs. Very appreciative.
I found what he says starting at 13:05 to be very interesting. The difference between engineering and mixing. And I agree, it sounds way better in the mix with the EQ on.
Thanks Nolly for sharing your view and tips, really nice sound the final product 👌
That Eq curve on the bass... Whattt! But yeah it definitely makes sense at the same time, coming from that scooped tone from the Parralax!
J-F Quévillon It’s not as extreme as it looks. The graph is only +-12dB, the cuts are only -1dB and the boosts are +5dB max.
ive learn more from Molly than all the time I spent in audio school.
LOL that a sweet riff Nolly 1:01
NollusMaximus!!
Thank you for the info! Much appreciated!
Nolly = Gold. Love my NG5 too.
Great job and nice vid.
14:10 is a super important advice I still need to learn in my mixes.
This is such a fantastic video!
Thanks for the video! Very interesting to see how you use it.
Use it all the time great stuff
Any chance GGD could revisit the original Halpern kit and redo the GUI to get it up to the same standard as the newer kits? It would be great to have built in turbo features with better mapping and snapshots.
Hey Nolly... After years of Superior Drummer and EZ Drummer user I decided to get the GGD Drums collection.I am very pleased with the direct result that I get and this is what matters to me.Of course watching with interest your video and I congratulate you for the way you explain them to. But I think a video will be more accessible to many friends if you use stock plug-ins.And I say this because they may not have much money to buy a Fabfilter or Slate D plug-ins. Thnks anyway !!!!!
Where do you find the Parallax presets like the warm rock bass?
Outstanding demo and tutorial! In the video, you mentioned sharing your parallex preset, but I didn't see it in the description or in the comments. Any chance you could share it?
Where do you find the Parallax presets like the warm rock bass?
Love the information, Thanks!
It's a Nolly day!
I very much appreciate the demonstration of nuanced approach here. To my untrained ears, the mixing moves are incredibly subtle. I'm definitely a fan of scooped sounds though. Biggest takeaway for me is how good the mix sounds without any EQ moves. It also highlights how the writing, arrangement and performance of parts are intricately and inextricably linked to the mix and how important they are to the final mix - i.e. if the song is poor, mixing wizardry might fix it but seems unlikely...or at least would make it certainly more challenging.
I would love to know your thoughts on mixing synth or orchestral parts into tracks like Epica or Celldweller.
I've been watching many videos lately of Vsauce that I started to think he is everywere 😳
I would love to see the velocities on the drums 🥁
Nolly is my Santa
love the vids, can just say, would you plz try to toggle the plug ins in the middle of parts more and less often as like chords are changing or what not, can be hard to hear the difference when your not as familiar with the music i think, if the toggles at the "more developing moments" than more static parts, i realise its mostly metal haha but i often find my self having to listen a few times to notice when its done on a change . cheers nolly
NollusMaximus always rules!!!!
10:17 "It sounds good"...yes....it does;)
Superb.
Is that parallax preset somewhere out there? I just need the cab settings
Nice
Bwahahahaha nice, username NollusMaximus (Top right)
thank you, this is very usefull
great thnx
ngl that bass eq curve looked weird af, but then it made sense
Does anyone know (maybe from previous videos) the recording chain Nolly uses? I'm interested to know what preamps/compressors are used, if any.
NOLLUS MAXIMUS (right top corner)
top!!!
I Made the same template, hoping to find the solution for my demos… but sadly my result is a bunch of Hyppo Farts 🤣🤣🤣 there’s something under the hood for sure! Anyway I loved the video!
This has probably been asked before, but do you plan to move your plugins to something else then Kontakt? I really want to play around with your plugins, but I just hate dealing with Kontakt
Probably not likely. They all love Kontakt.
is this preset available anywhere?
Was there already a high pass done on the guitar beforehand? This was not shown but judging by the graphics on the EQ, it seems that it may have been done.
*NollusMaximus* :D
Any chance to get video like this one with OKW metal ?
something out of upbeat things from Load/ReloadTallica, which is actually nice considering those albums are panned because the name "Metallica" on it
that bass di sounds like a vsti
Gold mine
Anyone catch what he used for the Guitars here? Sounds great
Ok.So if this is made fantastic should i think that in every song drums will sound the same?Like we have now with 5150 sound on every record?
Great content with insights. Personally, I would have kept more of the bass DI tone for this kind of music. I think one of the best bass sounds has Iron Maiden which is not much overdriven. Any overdrive dampens the low end in some way, because overdrive are harmonic distortion which add squares to a nice warm bass. But that’s totally personal taste.
The drum kit sounds really usable out of the box, I only have to criticize the kick drums. They sound too high imho or clicky- I can’t describe it otherwise.
It depends upon on you to get the sound you need , Architect DRUMKIT is based on Dan's Drums sampling , which is a metalcore band , get that in your mind
Sup Nollus Maximus! 🤓
i want warm rock basas presets :(
preset?
Does anyone know a good master bus compressor with a high pass like this one in logic? I’m on cubase
oh shit Vsauce is a metalhead
What makes the FG-Grey better than the SSL-Style-Logic-Stock-Compressor?
There is a hi pass filter feature on the FG-grey that allows the compressor to ignore the kick drum and focus on ducking the snare. There is no hi pass filter on the waves ssl comp, which means its going to be compressing the low end of the kick/bass. This can sometimes cause excessive pumping from the low end.
You can get really similar results with the logic one he uses in this video though
The FG-Grey is modelling an SSL bus comp modded with a Neve transformer, so I find it adds more harmonic colouration than other SSL bus comp emulations like the Logic or Waves ones.
The FG-Grey sounds a lot like the Dramastic Audio Obsidian to my ear.
@@kebbinator I always say that the compressors in Logic are inspired by the sources, not emulated. Either way, probably the best stock plugin in Logic.
Any recommendations on what shells to use on modern and massive to get something that sounds similar to this ?
I believe it's just a Tama Starclassic kit with a Ludwig Supraphonic snare. I tried it in M&M and it sounded pretty good
Only 2 toms though………
really thought this was vsauce from the thumbnail
one kit wonder saved my life😀 as i struggled really hard with matt h. kit, wich is great, trying to mix it on the basis of your longer course top/down mixing, it took me two month to do my worst mix. i realized i had no time to up my game to what i needed and one kit is just doing it for me. My take this week end (it would have been worst without this Nolly course) on GGD Aggressive Rock / and trying to slighly glue things : ruclips.net/video/iNoy_LC5w_A/видео.html
Damn. First one.
Knollydge
That may be the thinnest bass track I've ever heard.
thats all he did??!!!
Totally revoice the midrange... FAIR ENOUGH
Dont be fooled by the title he most certainly does not mix the kit got damneet knowly
