    I'm just going on basic science here but being an Omnivore I think a wild Tegu would eat something almost daily. Why not split up the food or try the fruits on the days she doesn't get meat items? Glad she looks healthy and not overweight.

    • @joshuapowers5590
      @joshuapowers5590 4 года назад +6

      Chicken hearts are super cheap. Eggs are super cheap. Breed discoid or hissing roaches and you'll eventually have an endless supply of large sized roaches. Tilapia is cheap, but you can also use catfish. They seem to enjoy bananas, and bananas contain phosphorus which is really good for tegus.
      I'd say 50 dollars would more than cover a month of tegu food if you do it smart.

    • @iAtrocitus
      @iAtrocitus  2 года назад

      my tegu has since outgrown this enclosure so i had a all pvc enclosure built for her. this one was built using plywood and the platform was built using scrap plywood from the enclosure to make a box and a piece of slate tile that just sits on top

    Great selection of foods. However some of your info might be innacurate.
    1. Lizards dont use a bathroom😄
    2. I would like to see the so called study that reptiles cannot absorb oystershell calcium?
    3 Quail eggs are more healthy than chicken eggs? Where is the proof?
    4. How are raw eggs dangerous to reptiles yet raw turkey isnt?
    5. Vitamin D3 can be overdosed. In fact its not really a vitamin but more a hormone and very difficult to overdose. What it does it control somewhat the uptake of calcium but by itself very difficult to overdose it.
    Your trying to give good info but it needs to be accurate.

    • @iAtrocitus
      @iAtrocitus  4 года назад +2

      if you check my other videos i have some of my tegu going in a specific area. its not technically training more like conditioning her to go in a spot. this video is also old and care and husbandry change as new information is found. as a reptile keeper you should be able to relate. the oyster shell calcium topic was more so a thread in a forum, no real study on it i just followed the crowd. if you check my description there is a link i left that talked about raw eggs vs cooked eggs, but to save you the time and trouble of going through the whole thing here is a small part of it " (2) Raw eggs also contain an enzyme called avidin, this enzyme decreases the absorption of biotin and can lead to skin problems in reptiles. When you cook the eggs you neutralize this enzyme, thus changing the makeup of the egg." as far as vitamin d3 i found no need to keep adding it into my tegus meal as the multivitamins contains it already and the use of UVB 10.0 helps with all that already. Alot of this comes down to your own personal opinion on how to care for your tegu. Nothing i did here was technically wrong in care it was just how i perceived it and developed my own care for my animal.
