Great interview. Whilst I admit I'm still of the view that nothing since Until Dawn has hit that high, the Dark Pictures games do have a consistent quality and the effort that goes into them is obvious.
I remember listening to an Ian Livingstone (Fighting Fantasy author) interview where he talks about how you end up with a whiteboard of arrows connecting scenes/events is various branching causal chains, and thinking wow that sounds so complex. Then SM have to do that as a playable movie experience. In terms of current studios they are very much carving their own path. Whilst other titles from Telltale or QuanticDream preceded SM's current place, it does they're carrying this genre right now, so instead of just copying existing design/gameplay elements, they have to innovate with their own. Doing that whilst writing and animating each game must be a challenging but fun place to be.
I think my favourite of the DP games was House of Ashes, and my least favourite was Little Hope. I'm a big sci-fi guy so I still have high hopes for Directive 8020, and I'm intrigued by what they've said here about changing up the gameplay with what we'd associate as being closer to more typical third person stealth sections. Sounds interesting.
7:38-8:12 Oh wow Rob. That WAS a good question! I remember watching a pes or fifa stream where Nath and Dave were talking about your talent for interviewing and commentary and i can only agree. Good stuff
Loved the interview. Great job PS Access team.
This is a really fantastic interview. I have loved every game in the Dark Pictures Anthology as well as the 2 VR on rails shooters. I'm really looking forward to Directive 8020! Might have to go back and replay the games again to see some deaths I haven't seen before 😈
Not a fan of jumpscares but the best one I always remember is the locker scare in Silent Hill 1..starting with a false scare, building up to a Creepy reveal and making you belive that's the end only to hit you with the big scare at the end
Love it, not just because it was well done but because the game is not filled with them, and for me that makes it an instantly better horror game
Dave was too scared to be on this episode
Yup. Like the Cowardly Lion. Wait! Rosie = Dorothy, Rob = Scarecrow, Nath = Tin Man, Alex = "the man behind the curtain" and Dave the Cowardly Lion.
It's perfect.
This pod is so good
What a great interview 😊 really interesting! After years of watching me play, The Quarry actually got my wife into playing games!
Bloody great interview. Lots of great questions and really thoughtful responses from Dan and Will.
Actually cannot wait for this game...Been loving the supermassive games of Late Especially after revisiting until dawn..
24:01 I heavily disagree. When I can barely see a thing it's not scary anymore - it's just extremely frustrating. I've seen enough games where pretty much all of its creepiness was lost because you couldn't see what was going on or if you were currently walking into a wall.
are you guys going to play the casting of frank stone on this channel thank you
Is there any chance of Directive 8020 having a PSVR2 mode? Would be absolutely incredible!!
ive only played until dawn ps4 version , havnt played any of the dark pictures yet but i have a few of them from ps plus
Final destination type of a game could be cool.
I bought the PS5 version of Until Dawn after Rosie and Amy's stream but I've been too scared to play it. 😭
I think u guys have a massive spam ai bot problem on this video :/keep u the good work though!
Who do you think is paying for the bot...?
Is it possible to make a comedy video game?
Your man in the glasses has the most beautiful skin I've ever seen!!!
Suit you sir
Rosie is so pretty ♥ Awesome hoodie too 😅
Wow. The bots are trying hard in the comments today.
Anyway, gonna make some tea and watch the podcast while I play some Unicorn Overlord. Cheers, Access!
I haven't played gnosia or seen the trailer for this game, but from their description it sounds a lot like the premise of gnosia?
HELLO EVERYONE AT PS ACCESS!
There are more bots on this video than people playing Unknown 9
Lol. They found the channel. It happens eventually everywhere
Dave was so scared that this podcast was a ruse for Ash to do the ultimate jump scare on him, he didn’t even show up for it 😂
Jump Scares are the intellectual horror equivalent of a 3yr old jumping out from behind and cupboard and shouting "Boo".....
....so im not bothering to watch this vid
Jump scares are cheap. They are a method used by those with no imagination, and no ability to create a vibe/atmosphere.
Jumpscares work well in combination with the right atmosphere. I wouldn't say they're inherently indicative of lacking imagination or ability. Bit too harsh, that. There's a place for them, even if it isn't your preference.
Atmosphere matters, yes, but say, a load of suspense with not much happening in the end isn't necessarily better, though it might be your preference.
Personally I'd prefer a healthy combination, where it's a natural flowing atmosphere entangled with some heavier moments to really get my blood pumping.
Your channel is where every video is a true work of art. Thank you for your creative energy and passion!😛🕶🟢
