    Great info. I'm planting one today! Had six big trees removed from backyard last year. I hated doing that but was afraid they would fall on the house when it gets windy. I really miss the shade they provided, but had to make that decision. So today I'm planting the Natchez. Miss my trees!

    That was a great and informative video. I recently purchased 2 Natchez Crepe Myrtles and planted at my folks home. Both have 5 trunks, about 4 feet tall. From your video, I shouldn't prune anything until winter, so thanks. I'll leave it alone till winter. I did notice at some commercial spots they are binding the trunks together at the base of the crepe myrtle. Some bound twice at the base and mid-height of the crepe myrtle. I suppose trying to form one trunk. Is this an option if you're looking to form a one trunk natchez crepe myrtle? Thanks for your help.

      Erica Kountz I think 3-4 trunks make a nice Natchez. Look for the sturdiest ones and trim out the rest. Then just clean up all the new shoots when they develop and you will soon have a great tree.

    Do you think transplanting the tree a 10 feet away will help sustain instead of cutting it down.

    Jim I’m in zone 9B Florida and planting 2 Natchez and a Muskogee in my moms backyard. She has irrigation and I plan on using a mild fertilizer in the spring. About how long do you think it will take for these trees to start to develop that “tree” look? They are starting from 3 gallon pots. The Natchez have 8 inches of roots growing out of the holes in the bottom of the pot.

    I have 4 crepe mrytles, 1 of each color, just very young, about 2 and a half foot tall each How far do I need to space them apart for proper growth? I have a white, pink, dark pink and a purple. The white one's leaves are greenish-red, like the one you are showing and the other 3 have dark purple leaves. When do I need to cut the stalk of the growth off if I want only 2 or 3 to a tree? There are alot of shoots with these Crepe's and 3 of them are spaced about 3 foot apart. Please answer as I'm new to these trees.

      abigail baliling Focus on opening up the tree by removing branches that cross and rub each other or grow into the middle of the tree. You should have sturdy trunks 3-5 of them and a canopy that goes out naturally from those trunks. You’ll love it when its all cleaned up and gets a good year or two afterwards so it fills in just a little. And the flowers will be killer.

    Hey Jim. Thanks a lot for your video on this beautiful Natchez Crape Myrtle. You mentioned that if I just want a mid-size crape myrtle to get the right variety for the height that I want. I've been hoping I could find a mid size, 6-12 ft. tall Natchez white variety though. Are there other white variety of Myrtle Tree that's mid-size? If none, is it possible to graft a Natchez branch to a mid-sized Myrtle Tree?

    • @emeraldamethyst6222
      @emeraldamethyst6222 4 года назад

      Not sure if you took action or not, but i have successfully transplanted 4 crepes that were under six feet tall with no problems. I factor the success of the transplanting to moving them early spring and remembering that crepes have many roots that are only about six inches below soil and fan outward. I also waited until a good rain when the soil was soft to reduce root breakage.

    • @emeraldamethyst6222
      @emeraldamethyst6222 4 года назад

      Not sure if you meant 8' rather than 8'', but either way if you consider the steps i took to transplant, then i think the transplant could be successful regardless of how large the plant is/was

    Hi Jim!!! When I Purchased My Home In 2002. I Had No Idea What These Plants Were. I Do Not Have A Big Place, Put The Folks Who Had Lived Here...Had Planted Five (5) Of These CrepeMyrtles. Some Are White And Some Are The Light Pink Color.
    Almost Every Year...My Flowers Do Not Come Out. I Had No Idea Why? I Thought It Was From Me...Not Watering Them, ( And That Could Be Part Of The Problem). I Never Knew To Prune, Nor Fertilize Them. I Did Do Some Pruning In Late Spring...Before Some Flowers Bloomed.
    However, The White Flowers Came Out Pretty Good On One Tree...But, Now, They’re Gone. What Could Had Scared Them Away? Finally, The Big Pink Tree Had Some Blooms Come Out This Month, And Also, They Look Scared, Weak Or Something Is Not Right.
    I Hate That All This Time, These Trees Have Not Been Getting The Care They Need...Yet Are Hardy...But Without Blooming Flowers. Sometimes, I Feel Like I’m In A Jungle...LOL...With All These Trees Around Me. I Guess They Serve Other Purposes e.g. Providing Shade Down Here In Texas.
    I Also Have An Enormous Ash Tree. Those Black Birds Have Become A Huge Problem For Me, Because Every Year They Come To Vacation, Nest And Crap Allover My Side Walk, Plants And Car....I Can’t Stand Them Things. I’m Seriously Thinking About Cutting The Ash Tree Down. Not To Mention All The Leaves And Green Dust (Pollen);They Produce Every Year.
    Any Advice You Can Help Me With...Will Be Greatly Appreciated! And Thank You Kindly In Advance!!!

    I adore crape myrtles! Crape murder is a terrible thing! Every time I see it I want to choke the person who did it 😂😂😂 they look terrible when they have that done to them. The worst is the beautiful crape myrtle in one yard and the neighbor who hacks them down each year and has them looking like alien trees with flat top hair cuts. Terrible! Think of all of the landscaping budget that could be saved by leaving them alone!
