While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.

I was out on the prairie tending goats when a blizzard came. I had no idea it was coming. It was -30F with 60mph winds. A gust broke out the window on my camper. I was all alone and my heater on full power did nothing. I was freaking out that I was going to die. THOR showed up. He was laughing, that this kind of weather is normal for Nordic people. He told me to get into my zero degrees sleeping bags by layering them and put my cats and small dogs in it. He held me thru the night. I woke up alive the next morning. I found out the storm was named WINTER STORM THOR. Many people died in it. Thor protected and saved me. Hail THOR!

@@Snake616 ugh..... most issues with Christians were caused by royalty and the upper class. Most Christians were fairly peaceful for a good long time.
Norse culter back then had its own issues.
Christianity wad written on a good enough foundation which wad added onto and readpated bot for a good while it started off pure place; love you neighbors as you love yourself, don't trust people who love standing in the spotlight seeing the appraisal of others like the Pharisees do. (Jesus was quite anti-establishment for his day). Jesus uses the Greek word huios which means to be adopted, when he claimed to be the son of God, not Teknon which means to be the child of someone by birth.
This was a challenge to the Roman empire and the rite to rule duento being a child of the god/s. Everyone is a son and daughter of the gods/s so then we all have the right to the thrown and Julius was using an old argument the Hindus tought us better on.
Salvation comes.from understanding we are one with God instead of worshiping the Demiurge.

But if all you know about Jesus comes from the southern baptists, evangelicals, protestants and catholics then you are sadly uneducated about a beautifully complex belief system that was as far from the modern adaptation as you can get!

I and my ancestors know him as Donar. And the injustice that was done to one of his shrines. Donar is like a good friend. He is the protective grid of the farmers and so he wants to be communicated with and so I sacrificed to him. Very simple things like strong beer or hearty food. He reacts especially when you are in distress because of the weather. That's how I experienced it. Hard and long day where everything went wrong. I was riding my bike on the dirt road, 20 minutes away from home. It started to hail, nasty, painful hail. Now finally done, I sent a cry for help to Donar-Thor. With a flash of blue that seemed to split the sky, the Hagal giant met his end. At home I gave thanks with a sacrifice.

I recently watched the first Thor film after it being mentioned on live stream and I can see why people think of him the way they do. The Thor I have researched and the Thor Hollywood portrays are quite different Gods. They have done the same to most other polytheist beliefs so it was only a matter of time before Norse Mythology was in that bracket. I have a lot of respect for Thor, as a mother his connection to home and hearth is very dear to me

    • @thorgeist
      @thorgeist 3 года назад +2

Be.. Wary. Some times Donar’s call is an archaic call to action. An action that is not socially, much less legally acceptable.
I held a deep fluid connection with his essence for quite some time. I would say a month, yet my wife would say about two or three months. When I was connecting with his source, I felt a deep “need” to do harm to select sex offenders. Mind you, not all. A select few who’s names were even revealed to me in my connections by last name or first name. After I found them on the registry; all of these men had identical charges. Which was extremely profound to me.
During these connections, I felt what I would describe as the “Thorgeist” ORDERING me from within myself to “Go, Cleave, Hang, Repeat, You Are Behind! Go! Now! Quickly!” And definitely physically felt powerful, strong, and unshaken. Also, I experienced a rage tunnel vision state often. Yet I never acted on these orders, so after 3 days of deep connections I would emotionally plummet. My connection would subside and I would wake up depressed for two days, day in and day out. I would wake up the third day, and I would feel rejuvenated. Then would get right back to connecting with him and the cycle would begin again.
For how long? I obviously couldn’t tell. I felt that this cycle was only going on for about month until I finally decided to stop for my own mental head space sake. Yet my wife came to me and told me one day on my Thorgeist days; “I don’t know what you are doing, but you are not YOU right now. You just aren’t yourself Dan.” And she walked away. She also states I was like this for two going on three months.
With that being said, my personal conception of time in general is always off with or without the Thorgeist lol. Just be wary, he is an archaic being the requires your actions. Being a keeper of the Oath himself. Honoring him when and before you are working out, doing jiujtsu/wrestling or shooting at the range is good. Everything will heighten, and time from your perspective will slow down. It’s awesome! Just be careful with the darker aspects that may be just, but unacceptable by today’s standards.. You’re Odr will alter itself deeply.

Thor outwitting the dwarf shows that, unlike certain stereotypes, Thor is clever and knowledgeable...as Odin's son, Thor would possess a measure of his father's knowledge and wits.
Regarding "giants"--not all giants were towering brutes and enemies of the Gods and men. The term, "giant," also can mean a being that is superior to mortal man, and some giantesses were so beautiful that the air sparkled around them when they moved. The giants that are enemies of Asgard and Midgard are the ones that Thor clobbered with enthusiasm, the beautiful, honorable ones were treated as any beautiful, honorable being would be by the son of Odin.

Jotun symbolize greedy outsiders (raiders) more than our conception of giant. Asgard is the Aesir's Gard (Garden) / walled city. Jotun live outside of civilization to the east in Jotunheim. They are seen as lesser and more savage and greedy for the things the Aesir have in Asgard, particularly wives. They are the ones who take without giving back. They break the code of hospitality, to exchange gift for gift and to respect the host by not taking too much of what is offered.

It's not confusing for Thor to associate with giants. Thor's mother and grandmother were Jotuns, he also has a stepson Ullr (not a giant just mentioning his children). Also Thor dying on Raganrok was probably invented by the Christians. Yes in some ways Thor is more complex than people give him credit for. I also think in certain times and places Thor was the all-father. If there is a reason why he is not followed so much it's because he is a straight forward god in some respects and represents law, order and marriage. He represents strong morals and conviction, nowhere days people don't like that sort of thing.

So on the “oddness” of Thor “hating giants” while still having a lover that was a giant. Think about it, just because another “male’s” culture, ethnic group, or society are your enemy; that does not stop men from enjoying their male enemy’s women within the enemy culture, society or ethnos. Actually, history shows exactly my point in practice sense the beginning of time. You can also observe this behavior in primates, specifically Chimps.
The men who asserts the enemy culture are the enemy “no matter what”, some of their women are as well, but some of their women ended up making fine lovers and wives for those who their culture was conquered by.

Thor and giantesses, well, most people consider him to be son of Jordh (a Jotun), and curiously Jotun women were more accepted in marriage to male gods (example: Freyr and Gerda, Njord and Skathi, and other cases) rather than the opposite, plus the fact that Odin himself "descends" from giants, so, it does make some sense. Sif was basically a wheat harvest goddess, probably Aesir (her hair represents the wheat that gets cut during the harvest -> remember the tale where Thor gets into a fit with Loki because he cuts Thor's wife's hair and Loki has to get "hair 2.0" from the dwarfs?), and Thor, despite being an Aesir, brings the rains that make the fields green, so he does have this fertility concept in common with the Vanir. He's a bit of an oddball. But a lovable one. However, though I really love Gaiman's book, I feel that he renders Thor as a dim-witted god all the time, and I don't think he was. My only beef with this delightful book.
About the Mjollnir, I don't know what they do in other places, but here we use them to consecrate temples, whether outdoors or indoors. He is THE defender against anything evil that touches mankind. I've worn mine for over 10 years, and I was so lucky to find a small very beautiful one at a fair here. They're not common to find, unless you go to a heavy metal shop, or buy them online, and if you do, they're not silver, like mine is. I never, ever take it off.
And concerning his importance, it's said that at the very important temple there used to be at Uppsala, in Sweden, there were 3 statures: one of Freyr (very revered there), one of Odin, and one of Thor. So Thor was a pretty big guy, not only in size (he was said to be the only god who would never take the Bifrost because he was so tall and huge), but in importance and popularity, back in old times. Good for him!

    Svadi The Giant
    There once was a giant,
Who lived on a mountain called Blesanerg,
    In the North,
    His name was Svadi,
He was a son of the Thunder God Thor.
At one time there was a man named Val,
Val was the son of Agnar and Hildigunn,
He had a sword called Horn-Hilt,
It was heavily inlaid with gold,
And it never missed its mark.
It happened that Val had heard some rumors,
That Svadi the Giant had more gold than could be counted in marks,
Val decided to take a journey to Blesanerg Mountain,
In search of the Giant's gold.
Val traveled until he came to Blesanerg,
He climbed up on to the mountain,
He searched until he found the Giant's mighty hall,
    Hiding and watching,
Val studied the activities of the Giant.
One day it happened that Svadi went out of his hall,
And down the mountain he went,
To do a little fishing in the valley below.
    Val seeing his chance,
    Came from his hiding place,
He ran to the entrance of the mighty hall,
    Once inside,
Val searched until he found the Giant's gold.
Gathering up all he could take,
Val quickly ran out of the hall,
    Back to his hiding place,
Staying until Svadi returned from his fishing trip,
    Upon the Giant's return,
Val made his way down Blesanerg mountain,
And journeyed with his gold back home.

It was Thor that came to me long before I knew what Thor even was. While so many of his popular stories center around almost humorous adventures, make no mistake about it, Thor has an awesome, powerful, awe inspiring, and terrifying persona that shouldn't be provoked. Thanks for doing this research and digging, and what was the song in the video?

For a couple of months I stopped talking to the Norse gods because I swore to them that I would battle my addiction for 9 days....
I failed, broke my promise and let them down TWICE!!!!
    I didn't think I was worthy so I left.
And then out of the blue I started to think about Thor,
Everyday I woke up and seen the dark clouds which reminded me once again about Thor.
So I went to meditate and apologize to Thor and try to make another deal....
But I couldn't, I was afraid that the Thor didn't want to listen to my excuses so I left not wanting to waste his time and not knowing if him and the Norse gods would ever forgive me.
And now this video shows up out of the blue which I now believe is a sign.
    Thank you so much

I didn't connect to Odin because I'm new and thought he was cool, we connected because he came to me multiple times and I didn't even know it was him until I asked. But now I'm venturing into the history of the other gods and your videos are incredible, thank you for putting yourself out there.

Love the video mate. From books I’ve read that describe the gods it seems that they are not so much as being a god of something specific, instead think of those things as traits and personalities of the gods. For example instead of Thor being “the god of thunder”, it’s Thor’s strength that creates the thunder. Other examples can be instead of Odin being the god of wisdom, wisdom is just one of his prominent traits. Many gods share similar traits, some just have more of those than others, just like us people. I’m very glad I found your channel and will enjoy learning more from you.

Great video! Keep it up. Obviously Thor must have been one of the most prominent Gods. We wear Mjolnir as our symbol, because many norse graves have been dug up, and ancient people wore them. Thor must have been extremely important to the people.
I'm sure you're planning to do a video on Tyr. I'll really be looking forward to that.

One talked about whether or not Thor really even is a war god and another talks about how the term "World serpent" might be a Christian mistranslation and that it might actually really translate more as "World/ earth spirit".

When you make the video about honoring Thor (and the other gods in other videos) in the modern world, could you please include something for the ladies? I get the feeling that so much of this faith is centered on men and manliness and Being A Warrior, and the women's mysteries are largely ignored. I ask here, as a woman, specifically because of a dream about a god I didn't even recognize as Thor until later, and I am still learning how to nurture that bond, and the community hasn't exactly been receptive of me wanting to "feminize" Their Manly Man God. I've been feeling the push to reconnect for the past few weeks, and now... this series exists. So Jacob, I'm asking for your help here

I’m 26 and stuck between Christianity and becoming pagan being raised in the a catholic home I have never truely felt the Cristian god and the one time I have ended in disaster and ever since then my life has been a lot of suffering and mistakes I’ve more recently as of a year ago began to feel pulled towards paganism more then ever and I blame all my misfortunes on Loki playing tricks and causing Chaos in my life. And Iv always felt a connection to Thor as the type of life I want to live. How would you or the community guide me in making my first offering to Thor so that maybe he will speak with me and give me Guidance and possibly keep Loki off my back?

One reason for all the different mothers of Thor's children is regional differences in the stories. That would be my best guess for it. Also, I vote for a video on Frigga.
