I just love Dougie ... he's the reason I'm such a huge fan of Shetland. It's difficult to imagine the show going on without him ... but I will definitely continue to watch. 😊
We started watching BBC shows a few years ago and found Shetland to be one of our favorites. Kudos to the writers, just love the storylines. We can never guess the real culprit until they pull everything together toward the end.
love the show and Doug is an amazing actor, all of the characters fit so well together. Story writing and the mystery of each of the stories were excellent.
I'm late to the party with Shetland. Watched first episodes of latest series, then back tracked to iplayer. Boy! What have I been missing!?. Douglas Henshaw provides this wonder cop, gritty, determined but sensitive and not bad on the eye. And don't get started on his wonderful accent.
Not sure I'll keep watching without Jimmy Perez and some of the other characters. They should've just made Tosh the lead character. That I would've come back for.
After watching all series 1-7, I'm glad of the ending. It seemed a natural progression, that he'd do something like this, and recognise he needed to get out , before the job took him completely. Lucky Meg is all I can say !
I'm sorry I missed this interview a year ago as my husband and I have been binge watching Shetland for the last few months. However, what always gives me a chuckle is the closed captioning... I'm sure when you meant decompress after a show, you didn't say decompose as CC had it... ;-)
I live in Italy and we're just 2 episodes into the new Shetland season 8. Sorry folks, but for me Shetland is synonymous with Jimmy Perez, I still have to get used to Ruth Calder. I don't want to be unkind so I'll wait and see if she'll grow on me like Perez, but in the meantime he is sadly missed😢
I'm a fan of this actor and the music from the series!😊❤One question: does anyone know if he will continue on the series or was he fired in the last episode?😢
Dougie decided to leave during series 5 and worked with the writer to bring Jimmy's story to a conclusion over series 6 and 7. He'd played Scottish policemen for two decades in several films and tv roles and simply wanted to stretch his wings and tackle much different characters.
Also, it seemed that, to me, the first 6 seasons were able to be filed and acted without any need for really crude language. A bit of cussing but not in your face. Now, it just fbombs everywhere and I feel it lost its class. Loved the seasons with Jimmy Perez. Class act all the way.

Yes, it is the accent which is particularly compelling. It took me a while to realise this. And I’ve heard hundreds of Scot’s’ accents before……

Love the Shetland series. Dougie Henshall was a great lead part. Ill miss his way. Ill still watch it though. Tosh is a sweetheart - Donnies lucky. 🙂
