Sad to hear that there is no more Jimmy Perez, Tosh and Sandy! I don’t think I can ever be tired of those lovely human beings and the brilliant actors!
Great to hear the TV series will continue and Dougie will continue with the role, he is so beautifully suited to the role, bringing in his own sensitivity into the character of Jimmy Perez
I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS SHOW--the writing, the characters, the actors, the scenery! One of the very best shows on television. Think I'll now check out the novels.
I agree. The series is brilliant. I catch myself holding my breath during the show, not moving, it's mesmerizing. The music is fantastic. Quiet and subtle but driving.
You really should read the books, too. You will really enjoy them as well. I’ve just bought a few audiobook versions so I’m looking forward to enjoying those as well.
You must never, ever, ever, ever, ever stop writing Jimmy Perez stories. Shetland is the most perfectly cast and utterly addictive cop program I have ever seen. I have watched them all a number of times and wish there were so many more. Brilliant. Thank you.
Ann Cleeves is unquestionably a GENIUS storyteller. Thanks for giving me and the world the exceptional Shetland and the incredibly outstanding DI Jimmy Perez. 👍👏👏👏👋👋👋🙏👑🇬🇧
Shetland Perez and his team is one of the best serise I ever seen so very well played and so exciting a masterpice - we wil never have enough of that - we want more please .. wishes from Denmark. Scandinavia
.. Oh how I love both Shetland and Vera too, they are my absolute favorites 🤗❤️ now when I know there's actually books of both, I really need to buy them 😃
Visiting the Shetlands, having tea out of a thermos on the beach, out in the open country, petting the sheep for whose wool i work with and love, is on my bucket list. I LOVE the writing and the series, thanks to you. Go back often in different seasons, visit dear ones, and breathe deeply the air. You deserve to keep the jewel of Shetland alive in you always. Thank you so much for all you've worked to share this with us.
This show is so well done! I read all the books and have all the DVD's here in Canada. We visited the island and seen Jimmy's house. There is nothing like Shetland we loved it.
Ann, I doubt anyone would grow tired of it, as I read your books and although the description of Perez was different to the actor, I could envisage the latter as I read the books, Dougie is so brilliant for the role.
I will never have enough from the Shetland stories. I simply adore Jimmy Perez's character ... He's the most human detective I've ever known. And Shetland is my biggest dream to live there. I am deeply sad that wonderful story is over.
I am in the US and came upon the show while browsing Britbox I absolutely love it, and have just purchased the books. I am an avid crime story reader (fiction and non fiction) and I am always drawn to books that have substance and allow you to get to know the characters. The characters are what make Shetland special, they have depth. And I really don't miss all the guns and violence shown on many of the US crime shows, and some books can be over the top too.
i love Shetland... it is difficult seeing things you love stopping, or getting finished, gone... ❤️. since i cannot afford the books sold on bookshops i am very grateful watching them here in youtube. Jimmy Perez and Shetland... Ann Cleeves.. Just AMAZING
If you are in the US, you might check with your local (or regional) public library to see how to borrow audio books, e-books or "real" books for free on your library card.
God bless you Ann. Thank you for your deeply insight and gentle nature of storytelling. I’m so sorry for your loss of you husband. I understand. Warmly~ Corinne
I am in the U.S. and love the show. We binge watched several episodes at a time. I do understand wonderful authors needing to step back and watch the growth of their creation and not be involved in it any longer. Here in America the same thing happened to the books for the wonderful series Jesse Stone starring Tom Selleck. We thirst for more TV series but sadly I don't think there will be more.
i'm madly in love with Dougie I just wish I was 30 years younger, I have watched Shetland 5 times and love it every time, my mother's side came from Orkney, but havn't been to Shetland yet, kindest regards from Australia
I love both the TV series and the books, but as was mentioned before, the storylines are very different. Tosh was created for the TV show and doesn't feature in Ann's books. I love Dougie as Jimmy, but in a way he's almost like a different person to Jimmy in the books (at least visually). What I love about the books is that you get to meet Fran, and you get to be there when she and Jimmy fall in love. Your heart breaks when he loses her very tragically. I highly recommend the audio books read by Scottish actor Kenny Blythe. He adds another dimension to Jimmy and all the other characters with the different accents depending on each character. I've never been into audio books before but now I'm hooked. If you love the TV show and want to delve deeper into Jimmy's past, his roots and his underlying sadness, I highly recommend investing into the eight books.
Brilliant series. I haven’t read the books but the tv show is one of the best. It’s made me want to visit the Shetland islands because it looks simply stunning
How wonderful to see a glimpse of the inspirational setting through the eyes of the author. I haven't yet read the books, but have enjoyed the show considerably. The script, acting, cinematography and editing are all wonderful! I was somewhat disappointed not to see a single pony in the series, however... :D
I cannot fathom why Ann Cleves thought we'd be tired of Jimmy Perez and Shetland. I am still ready for more seasons. Cleves did say just how many murders could happen on Shetland before it became ridiculous. Which is a fair point, but what about Oxford, Midsomer, Hastings, etc. Jimmy could have been assigned to the mainland for a special case. A couple more books would be appreciated.
Absolutely love the series!! I'm so happy that Ann wrote the books, which unfortunately, I can't bring myself to read them as I don't want the characters to be different than the ones in the series. Many thanks, Sydney Australia
Started watching just for the scenery, got hooked on the characters and storylines. It's now one of my favorite shows. Can't wait for the next series! Is Ann Cleeves killing off Jimmy Perez?
We have really loved the series and I had read some of the books I now know i have DNA in Shetland and my other connections are my brother was Douglas and looked like Douglas Henshall and my father was James known as Jimmy so I really feel the connection to this program. One day before I am to old I would love to go to Shetland. My daughter has just purchased a Shetland Cook Book.
So sad I have really loved reading all the Shetland books to the point that I would dearly love to visit these islands. Have also enjoyed the tv series
At present I'm re-reading the series, and in Cold Earth we see tiny glimpses of Perez's attraction to Willow. At the last book, I felt the way was there for there to be yet another heir to the Perez name. I wish.
I managed to get my hands on the last book, in fact I am nearing the end and I know I'm going to have a mixture of emotions when I do - absolutely brilliant. Actually in my village contains replicas of some of the actors who have taken part in previous TV productions, it is delightfully uncanny really
I recently read it and watched the the TV series & still can't understand the differences between the two. The mystery's the same but in the book his daughter Cassie is a kid, 8 or 9 and a woman he's been involved with shows up pregnant. In the TV series Cassie is in university and NO girlfriend and no pregnancy. It's very odd to rewrite a book so dramatically I think.
@@sallyhawkins101 I am not sure I agree, are we talking about Wild Fire, if so, I think Sally if you wait, you will find the story is different, it involves a Nigerian who arrives on Shetland and hacked to pieces whereas in the book, a girl is found hung, someone on a walk, finds a dismembered hand then later someone else finds a head, gruesome I agree but the storyline is different so to be honest, I don't really agree. We will find out more tomorrow

I might feel differently had I started with the TV series; but I didn't and I don't!
It has always been hard for me to understand why it would be "the end". The end of Sherlock Holmes, The end of Hercule Peroit the end. How do you bring someone to life and then decide it is the end. And I have to admit it is a pet peeve of mine. I always feel like the audacity of stringing me along, getting me caught up in these lives and then just deciding you have had enough. Because the world is the way it is right now, just the fact these characters exist and will go on in some alternate reality gives some sort of relief. Why do you have to call something the end, when it could have been just a sabbatical and then we could go on with the lovely illusion that this tiny part of our imaginary world was still spinning on somewhere on the planet, just not regularly updating us. But this need for the artist to just be done with it, always comes across as cruel, almost selfish. Of course thousands have benefited from the enjoyment of reading and also watching the stories. But, why, after you have us, youve got us all tied up in the life of the story you created would you decide to end it? Why not just take a break.
Just read Wildfire and it's great but the odd thing I'm very confused over is Cassie is an 8 year old kid in this last book and Jimmy's woman police friend in Aberdeen we've never heard of is pregnant and he's angry. Extremely confusing considering in season 4 Cassie is all grown up and goes off to university then Brazil with a boyfriend.
