BritBox Is there a skip button in the works for the app by chance?? We’d sure love one!
BritBox What’s your favourite Glaswegian slang ? Lol Every single word spoken by a Weegie IS slang. Since I live in Glasgow I speak it myself
Not up to much Glasgow slang? East end of London got the best slang even the Aussies use a lot of it!
Gonnie no dae that.
Your messages😂
I'd listen to Douglas Henshall talk about anything, what he had for breakfast, and I'd find it interesting.
Yes I know what you mean, Penny, that voice is beautifully hypnotic isn;t it. Someone ought to record his voice to relieve stress etc. Far better than pills, certainly save money on the NHS for vital surgery when required. He has such a lovely human touch.
Lol yes he is so cute
@Penny - Amen to that!. He could read the phone directory and I'd be completely enthralled.
Douglas Henshall's voice is mesmerizing! I want him to read Sleep Story for the Calm app. Also, I plan to check to see if he has narrated any audiobooks. And . . . he is such a cutie! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Agree! I just love him 😍
I could watch him read the phone book and I'd be totally charmed.
Me too, and I’m a straight, old guy. Great portrayal as DI Perez.
IO SONO ITALIANA E LO GUARDERÒ SEMPRE , ANCHE SE LE HO GIÀ VISTE DECINE E DECINE DI VOLTE!!!! E POI LA MUSICA DI SOTTOFONDO È MAGNIFICA!!!😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
Me too 😍😍😍
Just love listening to this man. Charming
Yes Douglas Henshall’s voice is like a Scottish dream. I could listen to him recite the yellow pages.
Best Television show in the history of series. Hands down. And hat's off to Mr. Henshall, who is a brilliant choice for this pivotal character. From the heart of the Great State of Texas, HowDee!
Koni B. It’s definitely in my top five of all time!
We have a bit of a delay in getting the new episodes, that to be expected. It is just the by-line of the story and the portrayal of the characters are spot on for their duties in a small, rural community. And the cinematography of exterior shots is beyond beautiful. I love to hear the flow of the words, it takes me back to my childhood and listening to the old folks. My great grand Nan still had enough Gallic that it would be in her speech whilst talking to my Nan and her older brothers.
I love the show and so sad its over . Winch to Jimmy
Not over. Just announced they are making new episodes.
I just finished the last episode. It was amazing, definitely one of the good ones. But best in the history? you haven’t watched too much series right sir? 🤣
My grandmother was from Glasgow…imagine..I am a French speaker in Canada. I am a huge fan of Shetland and I do rewind sometimes to listen again…and again. 😉💜
Love this great actor. ❤️
If Douglas Henshall is in it..I'll watch it.
I love the Shetland Series. I do have to watch it with English subtitles turned on though, otherwise I’m afraid I’d miss a lot of the storyline.
Us too.
Me too lol
We’ve read the entire series
Love your show! Hope there are more seasons to come. The Shetlands are on my bucket list now.
Love to listen to this precious man.
Douglas, same on screen as off screen, just a great bloke.
A little less intense than the series. He’s charming when he smiles.
Shetland Fan Here! And Scottish 'anaw'. Scotland is a wonderful, beautiful place to visit.🏴💎🏴💎🏴💎🏴
It’s now 2021 in late October and Season 6 (!) has started in the UK and will start in late November in the US. As for the words, I’m pleased to saw I knew most of them just from endless streaming of UK TV (so many great shows, excellent writing and acting.
Now now season 7 in USA. I just love Shetland. Will be so sad when it ends. These characters are so lovable!!!!!
Love seeing smile...he's got a great smile.
weird seeing DI perez this happy lol
Ha ha true😅
Last time I was in Scotland I was able to tour Glasgow School of Art 😢and the Western Isles exploring the Gaelic history. Would really like to visit Shetland and Orkney and take the ferry to Norway following the viking history. This series gives me hope.
Dougie has changed a lot since I knew him when he was a wee cheeky youngster. So much like his two sisters Evelyn and Pauline .
Just to add onto my previous post. My cousin married wee doogies sister. Small world eh?!
Been Waiting For Shetland to come Back ..... NY Fan ...Love this show !
Fenomenalan glumac... Majstorska uloga Dzimija Pereza u Shetland-u... Odusevio me je covek... Pozdrav iz Srbije...
I'm too old to have a crush....buuuut if I did, it's him. LOL. He's just so endearing. Ha!
My favorite show!!!!
Love the shows filmed in Scotland. We are enjoying Shetland.
I have some Grant ancestors from Alba and I really hope to get to visit sometime this year. I'll definitely spend sometime on Shetland. I'm in love with it! Douglas, do you have the Gàidhlig? I'm studying it myself.
Thanks to the series Shetland and the main actor Douglas, I fell in love with the Scottish language. I am an English teacher from Serbia and from now on I will start learning Scottish as well.
I went to Scotland long time ago,it is a wonderful place, not to mention the Isle of Sky amazing....I was astonished when there...💯💯
He is great
He's so cute !!!
A Fantastic tv show . Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪. Fortwillam love it . Hike Ben Nevis twice once in deep snow very cool place. And last was week ago hiking it at 2am .
Love Douglas and the show! Watched it in Russian although I know English.
Love, love, awesome. I am Jalika. Love the shows. Hope to see more.
I am still not sure, Dougie if you are into classics but if you listen to the third movement of the Cotswold Symphony on ClassicFM sometime, especially if you are driving[don't put your foot too hard on the accelerator ] but it is stirring & invigorating, it is the Scherzo: Presto. He really was very prolific. Another good one, a different composer this time, Borodin's In the Steps of Central Asia, also that one I mentioned, there are one or two areas that sound like a piece of Ravel, Mother Goose. I heard the Vitislav on the radio this morning that bears some resemblance but if one thinks about it, there isn't a great deal of room to manovre with eight beats/notes to a bar. Invariably a composer can inadvertently or otherwise perhaps, pinch a piece from somewhere else which leaves one thinking 'where have I heard this one before?' Think of Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto then think again with the composer of The Warsaw Concerto. I once heard one commentator on a music program, years ago, saying, where have you heard that one before?
Funny what Douglas says about shopping/messages. It's exactly the same in Dutch. If you go to the supermarkt, you're buying 'boodschappen'. But 'boodschappen' also means 'messages' in the English/not-Glaswegian-slang.
It was commonly used here in New Zealand too. Im guessing this wd be linked to the fact that a lot of Kiwis have Scottish ancestry and our city Dunedin was founded by Scottish immigrants. Love the show 'Shetland' and all the characters.
Actually, 'reeking' literally means 'smoking' in Scots, as in 'Lang may yer lum reek' - 'Long may your chimney smoke' (Good Health!). From there it came to mean a bad smell, and from there; to be drunk. Makes sense if you think about it!. Edinburgh used to be called 'Auld Reekie' (Old Smokie), because there was so much smoke pollution back in the day.
my sister lives in edenbourgh and i used to work in aberdeen
Is that anywhere near Edinburgh? 😀
Best show ever
'Come away Geordie' the wee lass says, ,...from a favourite movie set in Scotland,.. Geordie.
Well talking of Reekin, the one I am thinking of is the Wrekin in Shropshire when someone asks you if they have been waiting for you for sometime, 'where on earth have you been, have you been around the Wrekin or if someone is dodging in telling the truth about something they shouldn't have done, someone might say, 'come on, stop going around the Wrekin.
Lovely! My granny was a Scot..Glaswegan..left in 1919 and never returned. Weather!!
Love Doug too!! Im Outlanders!! Sorry he was hanged!!
Jag Vill Vara med Dig Douglas henshall Älsklingen ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love this!!
awe, I love it!
I have discovered Shetland while season 8 was on cause I am an Ashley Jensen fan. Then I thought to myself hey why don’t you check earlier seasons. I am now completely obsessed with Shetland and Douglas Henshall and so sad he left the show😔
Right on Dougie👍
1:48 that Norway 😬🤣
The first slang word I notice watching Shetland show was AYE. Never heard it before
Douglas Henshall is my uncle.
In Australia, we have midges in the bush, and sandflies at the beach.
LOVE IT!
Well I know some of those you mentioned, Dougie, e.g Piece meaning sandwich as I spent quite a lot of time off & on in Scotland when my father who was in the RN, was sent up to Lossiemouth, probably more times than you have had a hot dinner. Skunnard, that's a good one for fed up and Winch, there is someone in the main street of Monks Eleigh who does that, rather pleasant actually. Very useful. Also know about those Midges as well, the best deterrent for those little buggers is insect repellent but if you don't want to lose your friends if they stand close to you, then perhaps a lighted cigarette keeps the little pesky creatures away from you. The odour from the former can be a little off putting.
We use a few of the words in Northumberland - scunnered and also messages for shopping to name a couple. Also the Northumbrian midgies are terrible too, especially in Kielder forest.
Brilliant
I have a friends,Ulli & Hans who are going to Shetland next year, fingers xd. I will try and warn her & Hans about those midges but if you should by chance meet them or make themselves known to you as they are great fans of yours, worth mentioning these little critters if I do not contact them before you.
Ack..we’ve got those pesky midges in the state of Oregon too..yuck
I’ve met him before, sat down and had a brew with him when I was like 14 they filmed a lot in my house in eshaness
You live in a hauntingly beautiful place. Best wishes ❤
Have you ever tried Ginger wine, I recommend it, absolutely delicious, Dougie. Actually has less alcoholic power than sherry oddly enough.
Love Shetland (will miss Douglas and his character). I know, going forward, that it will survive and flourish without Douglas Henshall, but will not be the same. I record every episode to avoid missing any.
Great 👍
Ciao Douglas 😄
Dougie, you probably think of my taste of music in that category GEIN IT GALDY. Have you found that lovely piece of music yet, Novak's Slovak Suite not to mention a few more I sent you in the past
The wee midgie is god`s gift to Scotland to stop the English from over staying their welcome.
andy hughes we have midgies in Australia, even a place called Midge Point
@@catefrancis4393 LOL
🤣
What does he say when he’s talking about a piece? A piece and egg and a piece and …. Anyone know? X
I am English you what, no only joking understood it all I think LOL
Bless
I can't find myself seeing him as anyone other than Nick Cutter.
Gerra way wid ya, Dougie !
Hello! I like TOSH! She si very intelligent and brave. She is Young and is a woman, despite she alwais goes ahead. And I like Inspector Pérez of course.
❤
I heard that shetland slang has a bit of scandinavian words ?
Your messages, lol
I thought doing your messages was going to the bathroom.. to me, it makes sense..
If something is "Reekin", it means stinking, smelly etc, it doesnt mean drunk.
YOu tell someone here in L.A. that you want "a piece" and you could get slapped!
Or propositioned...
What do you mean: "If you come in August..."? Midges had my mental health in September!
Just for those who imagine a sort of dragon with fangs and claws, midges are the tiniest of flying insects but they fly with thousands of their mates and bite you over and over until you are nearly having a nervous breakdown 🤣
Really the most annoying little thing.
'Shetland' won't be the same without Perez 😞
Douglas is Daddy
But he never told us what "Helen" meant
He s really cute there. I could kiss him right away
Fuck me! I'm Aussie, and I am ALWAYS told that we speak another language other than English, but, listening to this? The Scots have us screwed...but then...maybe... I'm just talking "pish".
Funny that the most successful actress right now is the one killed in the first episode, hatty james 🤣 oh the irony
Pish is trim mon
ruclips.net/video/T_Lk7qivXbw/видео.html 🤣
I’ve never seen “skunnard” spelt that way. It’s always been scunnered. Guess it’s the youth of today who changed it through ignorance.
I noticed that too, sad really
Season 7 if something happens to his character because of Duncan I would be so mad! How stupid a man get get ! Duncan..
You star in a great program and then the writers add the “F” word and brings it crashing to the ground!
We watch BBC because of lack of language.
If we wanted to hear cuss words we would watch American shows.
So disappointed!!
He's awful for leaving Shetland.
