I do find the more negative or middling reactions towards the song to be interesting. When I primarily listened to rap and r&b for 8 years, I was used to rappers like Kendrick Lamar going for a completely different sound on every album and getting celebrated for it (eg Kendrick won the Pulitzer music award in 2018). In rock, people don’t seem to really want that from their favorites and I find that to be an incredibly limiting aspect of the rock fanbase. Rock needs to start charting new, commercially successful territory rather than sticking to these 30 year old formulas. At some point, you have to find a way to move on from the Nirvana fallout (seriously, the radiation of Nirvana’s debut is lasting longer than the after effects of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima).
Because they all evolve the same exact way. They just end up sounding like generic butt rock I’d say a lot of people besides deathcore purists like how BMTH has evolved because they haven’t just done the post grunge radio rock thing

Just my take on it tbh, if I want to listen to a band still pumping out pop-punk in their 40s/50s I already have Green Day and Blink-182 for that…..
I have never agreed more with or related more to an opinion before than this one. I actually did really enjoy this song, but I couldn't have hit the nail on the head more square than Finn just did. Like the new tune, thought you're welcome was decent after afew listens. Just like blink 182 ain't guna do another enema ADTR ain't guna do another homesick. Just be happy they are still putting new stuff out.
I know you want that old pop punk sound but to write that kind of old stuff and have it feel exciting and have it feel worthy and fresh to them is tough . Sure they can do that but as these bands mature they become all about the song itself and making them as great as possible which means letting each idea develop itself . I’m sure they will have plenty of pop punk type verses in the future . they won’t lose that it’s just not prevalent in most recent stuff but they will have plenty of that pop punk sound as they go on.
If the cleans would be replaced with pop punk verses and choruses this song song would be soooooo much better. I didnt like this song that much but its a step in the right direction.
AMEN Finn !! I'm ready for The hybrid of Pop-Punk and Metalcore again !!! Like could you imagine a tour with that sound of ADTR and the current BMTH "Dark Pop" sound
I'm with ya here. That line you said about Sirius XM Octane hit it on the head for this and the last album as well. I honestly liked everything up to You're Welcome and I as well will always support them. I guess they're probably just trying to stay relevant and continue selling albums which makes me sad but I get from their perspective.
I’m telling you, if neon-cartoon-monster merch made a comeback and everyone in the band was rocking other bands’ NCMM, we’d get the old ADTR back. Personally, I liked it though…
I think they released a shitty album on purpose. First not to be forgotten during the pandemic, and they had to do that very fast, and then they will release a good album now to impress everybody.
I thought the same thing. I don't think they made a crap album on purpose, but they explored a different sound and took a chance to see if it would hit. It clearly didn't, and now anything they release that hints to something like their past songs will be well received.
I think they had it written well before the pandemic but were hesitant to release it. But I agree they needed it for relevance or they might get lost during the pandemic and if it’s more mainstream you’ll have more listeners.
This song was 🔥 and the lyrics were dope I tbh don't know know what the hell you are talking about....you already know they can't really go poppunkcore....
Hit the nail on the head. It's a good song, it's a step in the right direction.. but it's not ADTR. I think with especially the resurgence of Pop Punk in recent years.. 2008-2013 ADTR is needed more than ever.
Also irrelevant rando comment bring back beatdowns in metal music writing, They got rolled into and melded with breakdowns as a writing concept gradually over time until about 2010 where the term beatdown fell out of the vernacular altogether and people stopped using it when describing writing in song's. this happened Because of how similar they are and now nobody distinguishes the difference anymore. As a result we don't get song's like Ruin from lamb of god anymore that has a solid ripping beatdown in the middle and phattest breakdown at the end, now if someone goes back and listen's to that track it's all breakdowns to them just some seem faster while other's seem slower when there is so much more going on in that song than a change in pacing and tempo but oh well. It's worth mentioning cause that stuff had a lot of energy an actual aggression in writing that we just rarely see at all anymore.
It’s not a bad song at all it’s recorded very well everything sounds good but I 100% agree about the octane songs I was thinking that before Finn said it. I like songs that are very riffy that’s what got me into adtr and really that’s what has got me into most every band that I like. The catchy riffs to me are just as important if not more important then the singing those are the songs that I will listen too over and over and over again. Songs like this I won’t I won’t skip but I won’t go looking for it.
I feel like bands like wage war I prevail and beartooth are already doing this so it's just a day to remember saying we can do it too as in following instead of leading like they used to
Isn't this just the classic argument of: if they still sounded like they did at the beginning of their careers people would complain it was getting stale, but if they shift their sound people aren't happy either? I really enjoyed 'You're Welcome' because it was still a really fun album where they were clearly experimenting with the poppier side of their sound. This tune on the other hand isn't their classic sound and isn't very experimental either so definitely a weird creative decision from ADTR.
I am right with you on ADTR. Absolutely one of my favorite bands ever. It isn't that I am against a band changing, it's just that this was a big step down in their songwriting and it felt like an attempt at becoming a clear channel radio rock band. Even this new song to me is too reminiscent of five finger death punch or something. The A Day to Benjamin comment was spot on. The vocal melodies are not up to ADTR standards. The choruses are trying to be catchy rather than being good and because they are good they are catchy like pretty much everything before you're welcome.
I feel you Finn. They are my favorite band and i want to like everything they put out but i just can't. Your Welcome was the reason they dropped from being my #1 and Enter Shikari took that place.
I absolutely agree and I miss pop-punk with breakdowns - but I’m a sucker for this current era Cody-Core. Funnily enough, I’m LESS enthusiastic about Wage War than I am with current FIR or this from ADTR. But with him co-writing and inspiring so many top metalcore songs right now, I’m a happy guy.
Honestly I feel their best/underrated song is “I’ll be Sonic, You be Tails” and that is the perfect blend of pop punk, metal and just that little sprinkle of emo. Just perfect. If they could drop into that again it be perfect 👍🏼
WSMFY is probably their best mix of the three, for sure. Homesick kicked it off, and WSMFY really stuck the landing. Common Courtesy is definitely my favorite album from them tho
As soon as I heard it I instantly got wage war, falling in reverse vibes. I knew Cody was involved in some form. And i personally dig it. I’m just hoping it gets heavier from here in out. And I think fueled by ramen is what fucked their sound up tbh.
I don't know, I really don't like "metal with feelings"; melodic verses, anthemic choruses with that scream singing thing, like, I'd much prefer for bands to either embrace the heaviness without in-betweens or completely get rid of harsh vocals and breakdowns all together like Issues did. Either way, it's kinda sad we all tune in to hear a band's new song and searching for the breakdown to get on with our day, feels cheap but some bands run their course after a point in time.
It was a great heavy track, just long Resentment from You're Welcome. I don't understand people dogging these tracks, I literally just cannot comprehend it, because they're absolutely solid. I get it's not the ADTR you know, but everyone talks as if ADTR somehow died off after Common Courtesy/Bad Vibrations yet each album has PLENTY of great songs? I don't know, man. I don't want to be one of those people that's going to claim they've "evolved" or something, but pissing your pants because they've changed a little? I don't get that.
It’s not a groundbreaking song by any means, but compared to the last record as a collective unit, this was miles better. Good chorus Solid breakdown into another breakdown Verses were definitely the weak point.
I liked the song but it sounded like I Prevail and Wage War. Electric Callboy’s new song “Fuck Boy” is definitely something that old ADTR would make but with zoomer lyrics.
It’s a solid song but I think the problem with it is if you listen to the instrumental track, it sounds like it could be from literally any “heavy” band from the last 5 years
Song is solid, but not fully grabbed by it. I feel like if the second verse was heavy I would be more hype about it. Kinda like what Chunk! No Captain Chunk's song "Bitter". My opinion that was a perfect comeback song.

I’m sure they will have plenty of pop punk type verses in the future . they won’t lose that it’s just not prevalent in most recent stuff but they will have plenty of that pop punk sound as they go on.
“How do we know when to start spin-kicking people?” Lol 😂
Also slight side note, atdr and wage war have helped each other quite a bit and are from the same hometown.
Four Year Strong still going.... strong, at least.
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk still doing the easycore sound too
I like this new ADTR song, not the best ever, but not the worst, I think it has good production. A new song is always welcome!
"I don't need a fuckin miracle, eh"
I too love Canadian metalcore
Still can't get over that across five aprils hat. Sooooo dope
would be sick if you got jeremy mckinnon on the podcast!
mr. highway is an example of good ADTR.
What’s your opinion on Re-Entry? Both the og and Mark Hoppis ft version
Agree with EVERY point you made
I think they released a shitty album on purpose.
@@korman7 That's a good one too
I think they had it written well before the pandemic but were hesitant to release it. But I agree they needed it for relevance or they might get lost during the pandemic and if it’s more mainstream you’ll have more listeners.
This song was 🔥 and the lyrics were dope I tbh don't know know what the hell you are talking about....you already know they can't really go poppunkcore....
Dead by April combines pop with metalcore
Everything we need is actually what introduced me to adtr
Your chat looks like is full of "this is not true metal" fans
I think people give ADTR too much credit for this song, its not hard to make a decent good song after the car crash you're welcome was
Let’s see your song then if it’s so easy
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe he never said it would be easy for him lol
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe never said it was easy lol, but if u look at adtr's discography its very very mediocre
It's worth mentioning cause that stuff had a lot of energy an actual aggression in writing that we just rarely see at all anymore.
absolutely love the breakdown breakdown hahaha
they need need to bring back their easycore sound
It’s not a bad song at all it’s recorded very well everything sounds good but I 100% agree about the octane songs I was thinking that before Finn said it. I like songs that are very riffy that’s what got me into adtr and really that’s what has got me into most every band that I like. The catchy riffs to me are just as important if not more important then the singing those are the songs that I will listen too over and over and over again. Songs like this I won’t I won’t skip but I won’t go looking for it.
I feel like bands like wage war I prevail and beartooth are already doing this so it's just a day to remember saying we can do it too as in following instead of leading like they used to
Sounds like ADTR trying to be Falling in Reverse. You could easily replace ADTRs singer with Ronnie Radke on this and it would fit.
It’s a great song, every band changes their sounds, not gonna stay the same, either grow with em or stop listening to them.
Since your such a big fan of A day to remember. I'm curious what you think of there collab with Marshmello called Rescue Me?
It doesn't make me want to "disrespect my surroundings ".
What's your opinion on "modern rock" bands like Nothing But Thieves, Dead Poet Society, Royal Blood, Tigercub, Sick Joy, Cleopatrick?
Beartooth just does this style better now in my opinion
I was thinking falling in reverse lol. That type of feel
New BMTH, ADTR, TDWP, Architects, Beartooth… is it 2022 or 2012?
This band did not let me down easy
I think I might be the only one on the planet that likes you're welcome.
Good chorus
Solid breakdown into another breakdown
Verses were definitely the weak point.
I liked the song but it sounded like I Prevail and Wage War. Electric Callboy’s new song “Fuck Boy” is definitely something that old ADTR would make but with zoomer lyrics.
It’s a solid song but I think the problem with it is if you listen to the instrumental track, it sounds like it could be from literally any “heavy” band from the last 5 years
Great song. Digging it.
Who plays bass for adtr now?
I’ll be honest it’s pretty much “octanecore.” Shit you would hear on octane. I think it needed more cow bell right before the breakdown lol
Those reaction faces in the thumbnails are hilarious.
I'm going to see them this sunday july 31st and I would not mind if they played that song. I would mi lnd if they play FYM tho..
Song is solid, but not fully grabbed by it. I feel like if the second verse was heavy I would be more hype about it. Kinda like what Chunk! No Captain Chunk's song "Bitter". My opinion that was a perfect comeback song.
life long adtr fan, im thinkin the softer verses are to save his voice, maybe
fully agreed
Finn is evolving the makings of a Djent beard! As regards the vid / ADTR luck next time
