  • A question I think many of has asked at least one or two times while we have been stuck in traffic behind a row of Motor homes going 10 km/h under the speed limit. Will a Motorcyclist hate going on an Adventure using a Campervan? Well, it is time to find out!
    A huge thank you to my dear friend ‪@kihestad‬ who helped me out with all the work on the car.
    We should really make an own series..... Hansen and Hestad? who knows 🤩🎥

    I was thinking the same thing on my last motorcycle trip. I came to the conclusion that the difference between RVing and motorcycling is that when you go motorcycling, you are immediately doing what you set out to do. RVing, on the other hand, enables more things when you get to where you were going.

      There is no doubt that I enjoy riding the motorcycle much more than the van. But you get into a different state of mind and travel in a different way with a van, compared to a bike. I'm not sure if this is just a phase or something I really love doing. But I sure am gonna find out and enjoy every second of it. 🔥

    Nice! Adventures are not about how you get around, but what you put into it. When I am not on my bike I travel with my wife in our small VW Campervan and so we drove 10.000 km around Europe this summer. I love both. The bike is for me. My thing. The van is our thing. Doing different stuff but all adventures. Congrats on your new van!

    This video is a pleasant surprise. I love motorcycles but I'm too old to sleep on the ground, and my dog can't come along on my bike, so I've been thinking about a small camper van. "Will I like it?" is the question I keep asking myself, and this video helps me answer that. Looking forward to more van videos--but don't give up your bike!

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you mate... I bet you will love it. For me, that is used to motorcycle camping. This feels like 10x more comfort when it comes to certain stuff. But it is a little bit more boring to ride, but I guess that is just the price you have to pay. Nevertheless... getting out on adventures is what is of most importance. And there will be much more of that going forward.

    Well for me, I always look forward to your excellent video's on your motorcycle, but as we all know Norway in summer is stunning.
    So buying this car gives you more opportunity to show us more of stunning Norway in the winter. What's not to like. Loved the shot at 4.20, and if you'll defiantly need ventilation that for sure at 4.50 ( laughed my socks off ). I've no doubt in my mind that all of us who have commented here, will really enjoy your video's. Now you should have a contest to come up with a name for it, just for fun, nothing serious. 😂😂🏍🏍

    Good job Thomas. I travel a lot with my pickup truck with a small topper cap over the bed. I can sleep and stay many places in good and bad weather. It really keeps travel opportunities open for me. You have a young family as well. Pretty soon it won't all be about you and your travels but about the family and shared experiences introducing the little one to a world outside to enjoy. Start them young. They develop much better. Now there are zillions of youtube sites converting vans such as yours to camper travel, minimalist expense and many full time life in a van on the road. Check them out. The diesel heater can be mounted outside in a box and vented properly. It can be removed and stored inside. Only a hose to enter the cabin for heat. Safe. The roof vent, there are a couple or more brands, select the quietest one. Simple install The led lights are a good choice. Some cooking inside but it is best for big meals be prepared out side to keep all the smalls out. But some Coffee is a must. Pee bottle maybe a honey bucket depending on weather and location. Yeap, handi-wipes to clear the dingle berry patch. Hahha Amazon has a lot of items. A solar panel or two on the roof and battery power is great but winter time limits that up your way. An Anker or Jackery power pack system is very good. These are evolving very fast given battery technology. It is good to be able to power all you can without a generator. There are many battery hand held shower units which having only some warm water in a bucket you can wash off with. Use the coffee maker to heat water or a stove. Make you bed high enough to sit on and not hit the ceiling to maximize storage under it. Also maybe a fold down table ledge on the other side to place stove and eating. food can be stored in battery powered refrigerator/cooler setup. This stuff is very efficient these days and require minimal power. So a new world opens for you. enjoy. It beats being froze almost to death in the bad weather, chances of injury, or just staying home. The main thing is to go.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much for this comment and your own experience, appreciate that a lot! I'm still new to this, and not sure what is the best way to go forward. There is no doubt that I will spend more time with my family in the upcoming years. The older my kid get's the more he want to join in on my activities as well. I don't want to build to much in the wan, I want it to be as usable as possible, and easy to turn from one scenario to another on the fly without having to mount or demount to much stuff.
      There is a diesel heater already installed to the car/engine. So I just need to see if this is something I can control manually and make an outlet to the back of the car as well. Roof vent I have no clue about, but I hope to find one that is low, so it won't be in the way for my roof rack. I'm also considering an Awning from ABR. Do you have experience with awnings?
      I will do all or most of the cooking outside from the car. but morning coffees etc I will make inside the car. I have reached out to Ecoflow and Anker when it comes to those large powerbanks with solar panels. They are quite expensive, but I guess they are better because they are easy to take in and out, and don't take to much space. There is a huge possibility I will get myself a e-bike as well, so I can explore all the amazing places that is forbidden to ride with a motorcycle 🤭 Cheers mate, appreciate this post. Thank you

Now I have a vw caddy which is perfect for everyday use and I put a rooftoptent on it when I want to go camp and/or pull my adventure bike on a trailer if I want to avoid long highway miles or want to have a basecamp somewhere :)

      What is your experience with a roof tent? Was it crazy with condens? I read so much about this online. I have been looking at it for a while now and not sure if I’m better off with just my normal tent. I guess when you have been riding for so many years you get tired of all the long hauls on the bike. Much better to just set basecamp somewhere and explore around it. I see so many possibilities in the future around this. Cheers

    As i see you have a towbar, you can enjoy the best of both worlds with the van and the t7 if you invest in a little trailer.
    Thus you keep more room in the van to sleep, relax, stay dry and warm in late season weather.

    Camping in a car... travel compared to motorbike... I gues it is the same like, going for adventure by using RUclips and watching videos there... I can say I've been there, seen it and I know how it feels...
    On motorbike you feel real wind, water, sun and all other elements of nature. It is also more chalenging and dangerous, more adventurous and with wider possibilities of finding new places, which you will nevel reach with a car.
    If you are 65-99+ years, then yeah, car is a way for you to travel, but at age of 20-65 motorbike is only way to experience meaning and joy of life.

    I think that adventuring in a van has its place within the moto entusiasts... I like the idea of taking my bikes with me instead of riding them sometimes... Let me explain.. Lets say I want to go from the Netherlands to the Swiss Alps.... Would love to go in my Ténéré but I would enjoy more doing all the passes in my streetfighter... On the contrary, I would not want to ride all the way there. So, having a camper van that allows me to bring my motorcycle with me makes for a good compromise. Another situation, lets say I want to go with my GF and my dogs, I can bring them alongside in the van, and when I reach a certain place, unload the bike, ride the roads, enjoy the beauty and then continue. I dont have to go fully loaded, I can take everything in the van, enjoy Stelvio o Trollstigen without having to carry a ton of luggage. Or I can do it in a bike that maybe is not the "adventure" type, like my streetfighter or a sport bike... I also believe that you can enjoy both, it does not have to be one or the other. Some times one will be a better option than the other. If you can have the priviledge of choosing, then why not. My personal preference would be something more like a Transit Custom Trail, Peugeot Expert (or Citroen Jumpy or Toyota ProAce, they are all the same) or something in that realm, that would allow me to carry the bike in the back. Anyway, this was waaay to long. Love your videos... Cheers!

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  10 месяцев назад +1

      No, this was absolutely perfect my friend. I agree to everything and my exact thoughts as well. The problem with the Transit Custom is that it has less comfort when riding. They have squeezed out every inch of that van, same with the transporter or expert. so a bigger rear takes away driver comfort. With my 2 meters, I'm much more comfortable in this or the bigger van Transit, Crafter or Sprinter. But that is crazy expensive and not so easy to use for every day stuff. So it is always a compromise, and until now, this is what fits my need best ( I think ) But I guess it is like with bike, your next bike is your best. I need to do this, try it, figure it out and see if I will upgrade or stay at this size. But I'm looking at a trailer to bring my bike as we speak 😂🙈

    Joking apart. Diversity brings more opportunities. Go for it.

      Thank you Dave 😂👏🏻 Yeah, that is also a huge reason to do this! My son is growing up, adopting some of my passions and i want to take part in that with him! But i still want to spend time on the road, so with this i can combine everything without loosing to much 🔥👏🏻🎥

    If your in a camper van, why do you need a tent?

      If you have socks, why do you need shoes? 🤔 Because I don't want to be limited. I want all options free when I'm out adventuring 🙌🏻

      @@tshansen The camper van is your shoes. It covers all of you and protects you from all the elements. There is nothing more you need. I lived out of my old ford van many years ago, 40+.. for a few months traveling across the usa. I had a matress and a small gas stove. What more could I need? 🥰🥰

      Well, i guess that is a individual thing. I have been camping with my family for many years without any issues. But you need to adapt for that as well ☺️
