Your reaction to the little snake was so wholesome. I live in Australia and we have quite the opposite reaction to snakes 😂 although I do think most snakes are pretty cute 😍
One of the species you never get to see. This lil guy is one of those. Just doing his job, minding his business. My garter snakes are like that here in New Mexico. The lovely diamond backs and prairie rattlers get all the attention. Oddly, just outside proper San Diego where Jacque and Kevin are, is Santee, where I ran into the largest birth of baby rattles in one place!! You really had to watch where you walk.
Writing from Australia: I would NEVER consider just casually clawing through any part of a garden or garden bed without gloves. That is insanity to me. So many snakes, spiders, nasty things that will bite you/potentially kill you here. Makes me shudder watching all this garden work with no gloves.
Your reaction to the snake was priceless. I laughed so loudly! However, I was delighted to see that you gave it a home in the garden. And the kitty is so cute! Great work!
This is so much more than preparing for rain. The snake realisation is enough by itself but then Daddy Wheat Seed shows up and introduces an epic jacuzzi! Not before lifting a birdies bed straight up like it's nothing? I need a lie down after this one.
I didn't know Epic Homesteading existed until a few days ago, and its so lovely. It feels like I'm friends with you guys just hanging out in the garden. Although your reaction to the snake is a bit different to what mine would be, living in Australia haha.
A suggestion for a permanent berm/swale kind of system to control the runoff: install a hugelkultur mound along the slope. It makes a nice planting area but also catches/slows down the water runoff to allow time for it to percolate into the soil.
SNEK!!! OMG! Those blind snakes are so hard to find and so incredibly cool! I was SO excited to see it on video! So glad you threw it back in your beds since snakes are such great natural pest control for the garden.
Many of us have to blow autumn leaves out of the gutters and clear downspouts before it rains. Looks like your jacuzzi spot would make a nice rain garden spot.
I LOVE your videos. You both are so genuine and so funny! And so often, you have such great special guest stars like the snake and the cat. Love your reactions. Love your comments on the carrots, strawberry tasting, moving of the birdies bed and so much more. Made me laugh out loud. Thank you for such a precious year end video for this channel! Blessed New Year to you Kevin and Jacques!
I got pill bugs in my strawberries this year too, and they were trashing the berries. I bombed them with diatomaceous earth and they were done. You might try dusting those plants with DE before planting in the grow bag. Congrats on the rain!
It’s a tiny snake! Silly!I hope you have more. Keep them in the strawberries so they can keep the bugs down. Can you put a hose connector to the bottom of your drain so you can direct the water where you want it? If rainwater drains into your reservoir it should settle and keep your water level topped off
Oh my gosh!!! What a EPIC find!! The little snake is adorable!! Kevin basically "squealing like a little girl" was PRICELESS!!! I'm working night turn and had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing out loud!! Awwww.... you've been chosen to be a Furdaddy!!!
So much on the go! Wow December strawberries! The facial expressions in the thumbnail lol priceless...there was a news report of snow in California. I guess you guys in San Diego are immune from that. Oooh a pond ! :-D beautiful. The quick water movement prevents mosquitos hatching & increases oxygen...very nice! Thank you for limiting the background music to intermittent and reduced a few decibels to allow us to hear you wow!
You have a cat!!!! I love them and it made my day seeing the interaction!! Can't wait to see more of him!~ I love the pond too, you have so much space omg!
*looks at the last month of huge rain numbers, flooded garden, while living in north cali* Ya this would have been helpful to know about the rain proofing my garden
Hey Kevin, do you think you could do a video about biochar? If you do I'd hope it's about making it, but if you can't do that then could you go over what it is, how to use it, and what it does?
The rain washed out the downhill side of one of my beds, but my cover crop roots kept the bed intact and prevented it from turning into a landslide. I guess it's time to pick up some birdie beds from your site!
Great video! Something for everyone though I'll pass on the snake! Ready for a rain garden upstream and around that side of your pond? Once established, the RG native plants will help hold and percolate the water down into the soil. So many benefits including pollinators! Yeah baby!
Hey Kevin, I just received the Epic 6-cell seedling trays and they're super strong. I turned a Botanicare 4x2 flood and drain tray into a wicking table and have a bunch of seeds in Happy Frog. I think the large bottom holes of the Epic 6-cells are going to work wonderfully in this manner. I believe I had heard you mention something about plans for an Epic 5" pot...if you pursue that product I'd be a buyer if you ensure large bottom holes like the ones on the Epic 6-cell. Thanks!
I have a question for the epic crew!!! I acquired some one year old organic cow manure(3 yards) for my compost bins. My question is that since it has already broken down for close to a year now would it be considered a brown now as opposed to a green when it’s fresh?? I would have to say it’s 85-90% broken down
We have those little snakes here in AZ too. As soon as you reached out to grab it, I knew what it was. Your reaction was pretty funny! Thanks for the smile. And where the heck did that amazing Epic Pond come from?!? I can’t wait to see the video.
Is looking good. No problem with snakes down here in Florida, specially the black snakes. They love to be around the yard and they can get a good size. Still is a scary animal to see in your yard. That is something of a concerned if I get chicken 🐔. Your yard is becoming amazing.
Looking nice man. Question are you willing to try out the 13 different but edible mesquite trees at your property this one or the one your removing the thirsty none natives. Ok yes the cotton one you can eat but will dry your mouth like a cotton ball but you can use the dead branches to BBQ for its the same one used for BBQ. Yes 5 mesquites are native to you but all are very very drought tolerant and bees love em. Thoughts.
I have a California weather question...i live where there is a lot of pollution and it just rained after several years...all that rain went into my garden and washed the pollution into my soil... should i dig out my raised beds and pots and start over??
Geez..2 inches? Volcano HI got 25 inches in 2 days around Thanksgiving, and then here in the PNW we have 8 inches of snow which is now turning to ice!! LOL Really interesting to see how you manage the rain in your garden. Thanks.
That little snake and your reaction lol Now that's unscripted entertainment right there. That Wild Thornberrys reference though. I can hear Nigel's voice in my head now.
The first year, the pill bugs were cute. By the third year I was making it rain Sluggo Plus on the regular. Now I can only grow berries off the ground…I’m infested with pill bugs in my 3000 square foot mulched garden 😨. Every year I discover a new pest of class of critter in my yard. Nature always wins. 🥴
Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger Mush-mushroom, Mush-mushroom Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger Argh! Snake, a snake! Snaaake! A snaaaake, oooh its a snake! My mind immediately went to this, and now the badger song is stuck there. Grrreaaat. Epic pond though!!!
THE POND VID IS COMING! DON'T WORRY!
Whew! Thought I missed it!
How ya just gonna spring a massive pond on us with no warning?! Water you thinkin' dood!? 🤣
it looks so gorgeous! i can't wait to have room for a pond.
@@j.m.7056 Me too!
Haha, ok. Good to know. I scrolled back through both channels trying to see if I'd missed something.
Your reaction to the little snake was so wholesome. I live in Australia and we have quite the opposite reaction to snakes 😂 although I do think most snakes are pretty cute 😍
Yes in other places in the world not everything tries to kill you
I'm in Tennessee and gotta be careful about the snakes here.

Loved that reaction 😄

It's a lot to handle, I know
"IT'S A LITTLE SNAKE!" 🤣 I love the excitement for nature and all its wild, wonderful surprises
Your reactions to Epic Nature make me feel so much less alone in my garden shrieks of delight when I find something cool. You guys are my favorite 🥲
So cute to see you get so excited about the tiny snake! 😊 .....Bobca!! I love when she shows up!! 🥰😻 she's such a cutie.
I thought it was Babka 😄
Omg that smol snek was so cute! And that Eric Andre we'll be right back had me rolling! 😆
Right!!
Wait a minute, where did the pond come from? I must have missed that vid!
ME, TOO!!!!!!! 8-o
Same
Same here what the hell? I thought we were friends lol
Ikr!!
I thought we were friends too.
I guess we didn't get invited to the making of the pond... 😪
Video is coming!
I didn't know Epic Homesteading existed until a few days ago, and its so lovely. It feels like I'm friends with you guys just hanging out in the garden. Although your reaction to the snake is a bit different to what mine would be, living in Australia haha.
They remind me of my friends a lot lol I think that's one reason I love these channels.

Aaaah I am always happy when I find little brahmini snake in my garden! Its a good sign my garden is a thriving ecosystem
Bobca/lil jacques was so cute 😻😻
Wait, what?! When did you get a pond? That looks amazing!!!
Yeah where is the pond video?
That's what I'm saying, where's the pond video.
Check epic gardening channel!
The joy I felt when you found the snake- what a way to start the day!
4:40 best part! 👀 "Dude is this a snake!"
SNEK!!! OMG! Those blind snakes are so hard to find and so incredibly cool! I was SO excited to see it on video! So glad you threw it back in your beds since snakes are such great natural pest control for the garden.
That was awesome. I'm in an area with lots of rain and flooding is just kind of a part of life. (PNW)
If they created a video showing the creation of the pond, it wasn’t posted to this channel. I hope they finally add it.
It's going on the main channel!
Omg that small herping/animal education segment was amazing and adorable lol.
Many of us have to blow autumn leaves out of the gutters and clear downspouts before it rains. Looks like your jacuzzi spot would make a nice rain garden spot.
Totally agree!
I LOVE your videos. You both are so genuine and so funny! And so often, you have such great special guest stars like the snake and the cat. Love your reactions. Awww, loved you're reaction to discovering the cute snake.💕 So pleased that you've had some rain.
I got pill bugs in my strawberries this year too, and they were trashing the berries. I bombed them with diatomaceous earth and they were done. You might try dusting those plants with DE before planting in the grow bag. Congrats on the rain!
I would probably put some rye seed down around the pond for the winter to keep the dirt from washing away.

Did i miss a video of your pond and seating area?
I hope you are blessed with some good steady soaking rain. We have heard in Australia how dry some of America is at this time.
Jacques laughing in the background when Kevin finds the snake
Hearing Thornberry made me so happy lol thank you
When did you build a pond? Did I miss something?
So much on the go! Wow December strawberries! The facial expressions in the thumbnail lol priceless...there was a news report of snow in California. Oooh, pond area microclimate!!! I’m definitely looking forward to future videos after the plants surrounding the pond area are growing. 🌱
Nice to see how the place is coming along. Its looking awesome with the pond as well.
You have a cat!!!! I love them and it made my day seeing the interaction!! Can't wait to see more of him!~ I love the pond too, you have so much space omg!
I love how you freaked out over the snake. I love snakes so much. Your response was appropriate and amazing.
We got about 35cm of rain through November, care of "Atmospheric Rivers"... been diggin a lot of ditch round here.
*looks at the last month of huge rain numbers, flooded garden, while living in north cali*
Ya this would have been helpful to know about the rain proofing my garden
Since when did you have a pond?
You'll see!
Snake comes up and I'm screaming about the goodest boy ❤️
I love all of your videos…you guys have great energy together…thanks for everything you do!
I’m excited to see post rain production vid! You’re property is looking stellar! 💜
Hey Kevin, do you think you could do a video about biochar?
If you do I'd hope it's about making it, but if you can't do that then could you go over what it is, how to use it, and what it does?
Hopefullly you all installed a natural permenate side rain channel along the sides of the slope to catch water to collect or irrigate. Big Fan here
The rain washed out the downhill side of one of my beds, but my cover crop roots kept the bed intact and prevented it from turning into a landslide. I guess it's time to pick up some birdie beds from your site!

You two together is awesome!

Been a way for so long, I didn't even know you built a pond. Wow. I've got some catching up to do.

I thought the same thing! Maybe he forgot to upload that video? 🤣
Nope it's coming on the main channel!
I saw a snake like that a couple weeks ago, I didn't know what it was either but still cool. Peoria, Az
I absolutely love the editing lately it’s so funny,
In my opinion, rainy + cold weather is 👌👌👌 enjoy it while it lasts!
Average rain in my city is about 454mm or 17in daily. I live in Bogor Indonesia, we have 300 rainy day in a year. Wish I could send you some rain.
When did you installed the pond ?
Video coming on the main channel!
Thanks man it looks pretty cool.
Too much fun! Cant wait for the epic pond fishing videos!
When did that pond appeared? Did I miss something? 😅
We are so many inches of rain here in so cal now
So how did it go??? I can't find a follow up 😅
Those little snakes are plentiful here in Hawaii. Pretty little things. Garden looks amazing!!!! Always something goin on. 🤙🏼🙏🏼 Aloha guys!!!
I can’t wait for the update!
The editing on this is top tier 👌🏻
hey guys where is the video of him making the pond ?
Aw, man! I haven’t seen a blind snake since I was a kid! Lucky!!
I have a question for the epic crew!!!

I laughed so much when u were so excited about the snake 🐍 lol 😂 “is this an alien” 👽 you sounded so excited yet confused lol 😂 loved it lol
Nice Epic Pond look forward to that video
that little snake is awesome!
I’d put a swale there , geoff Lawton style 🤠
The weather won’t be as dry in socal anymore there will be aloooot of rain in the coming years!
I'm watching these videos a bit after the fact but I never saw any follow-up on how well the ditches handled the rain...
Is looking good. No problem with snakes down here in Florida, specially the black snakes. They love to be around the yard and they can get a good size. Still is a scary animal to see in your yard. That is something of a concerned if I get chicken 🐔. Your yard is becoming amazing.
Too many teasers in one video! You're killing us! 😂

Hey Kevin! Last show you told me you envied the amount of rain we get in the UK... well careful what you wish for! 🤣
Best wishes for the year ahead!
Geez..2 inches? Volcano HI got 25 inches in 2 days around Thanksgiving, and then here in the PNW we have 8 inches of snow which is now turning to ice!! LOL Really interesting to see how you manage the rain in your garden. Thanks.
Does that "lift and shift" method of moving the Birdies bed work on longer beds with the cross-beam in the middle?
You'd have to excavate those a bit, but then yes!
That snake was so funny!
That little snake and your reaction lol Now that's unscripted entertainment right there. That Wild Thornberrys reference though. I can hear Nigel's voice in my head now.
Kev: IS THIS A SNAKE??
🐍: Blep. Yes.
Looking Good
You get a couple of inches of rain, we got a couple of feet of snow.
This is such a fun video!
why is every tool Jacques' favorite tool 😭😭
I bet Tool is his favorite band too. 😂
The first year, the pill bugs were cute. By the third year I was making it rain Sluggo Plus on the regular. They're gnarly
Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger
Mush-mushroom, Mush-mushroom
Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger
Badger, badger, badger, badger, badger
Argh! Snake, a snake!
Snaaake! A snaaaake, oooh its a snake!
My mind immediately went to this, and now the badger song is stuck there. Grrreaaat.
Epic pond though!!!
