I was born deaf from one ear. I never experienced what it is to ear from two ears. But last Christmas my uncle offered me this kind of headphones. I tried them when i was alone, put on my favorite song and i cried. It was a whole new world for me.. Bless my uncle for that beautiful gift
Wow I'm deaf in one ear I'm gotta try this
That's awesome! This comment just simply made me happy.
Oh wow
I’m so happy for you
I lost hearing in one ear at around 6 years old and am curious about these also
bro..me too..is it truee..gonna try one too
I work in a really loud environment (data center) where hearing protection like ear plugs are required. The difference in sound quality when the ear plugs are in is like night and day. That is why they included them in the box. There is a HUGE market for these for anyone that works on loud areas, practically everyone I work with owns a pair. You should try them with the ear plugs in.
What exactly do you mean? Like having the ear plugs in make them sound better or worse?
Obviously better, use them context clues little buddy.
@@dumduq no need to be harsh
@@dumduq depends. Plugging your ears leaves just the bone conduction (in reality those still emit quite a bit of sound through the air, and when your ears are plugged - well...) and it certainly adds A LOT of volume and bass, but the sound becomes muffled, very much so. So I'd say that I enjoy listening to music with my ears open when it's possible.
It's the same here. In structural assembly, these headphones are the only way to listen to music and a lot of colleagues have them.

As a hearing impaired person, I think this product is great: 1) you do not have to push the volume up to a level where everybody around you know what you are listening to before you do; 2) you can hear all of the music frequencies. (depending on why you are impaired)
I hope you guys will think a bit more outside of the box when you review a product like this / and the manufacturer should also review its marketing strategy: there are a lot of hearing impaired people that would love something like this, especially if it works with the live-mic function of a phone....
Thanks for showing up the product!
👍
Hell yeah, kinda wish they came with a microphone because they work better than the crappy hearing aids the Veterans Administration gives me.
Thank you for speaking for us, I've struggled with it for ages that I never listen to music outside the house
Exactly, he clearly had no idea about the benefit of bone conducting earphones for people with certain types of deafness. I am completely deaf in my left ear because a tiny bone grew across my ear canal, I'm hoping this type of earphone will allow me to hear with that ear so I can hear in stereo while gaming.

Tech Company: *Adds magnets to their product*
Lew: They are up to something
They currently do have a magnetic attached transfer unit..I just looked it up, it's called BAHA. Is different than cochlear implant in that it uses bone conduction to transfer sound signals to an implanted titanium plate.
I have a pair and if I had to use one word to describe it’d be, “freedom.” I like the ability to listen to music while I workout, work in the office, and do other things while still hearing my surroundings. It’s like having a soundtrack for life. These are the only headphones allowed in many marathons due to the wearer still being able to hear race officials. Bass is lacking but the sound quality is great. These weren’t made with deep bass immersion in mind. the design language was to open you up to the world. Imagine, it’s like listening to a RUclips video or some background music on a Bluetooth speaker, the only difference is that others around you can’t hear what you’re listening to.
Also, he doesn’t mention it here, but people with outer and middle ear hearing impairment will be able to hear these as the vibrations bypass and go directly to your inner ear and vibrates the cochlea. Best way to describe is like the sound is inside your head.
The mind blowing part is if you put the included earplugs in (maybe for listening to music in environments that require hearing protection, or maybe for temporary isolation) that’s when your mind really gets blown. Bass thumps and they sound like regular headphones/earbuds. But your ears are plugged!
Wasn’t sure they were going to be worth the $160 but I can say I’m super happy with them!
Very interesting. Thank you very much. May I ask you if there are any counter indications? Are they safe to use long-term?
What about the sound bleed though, can other people here what you are listening to? I dont like it when I hear other people's songs at the gym so I'd hate it if I was blasting tunes and annoying the people beside me while working out.
Daniel Felipe not sure.. I mean maybe the same issues if you’re blasting them too loud like any other headphones.
roslolian11 it’s minimal (you start hearing brass instruments around 50%) and like he said only when you turn them up pretty loud. The only thing with in the gym is if the gym’s playing their music over their speakers you’ll have to fight to hear the Aeropex, but if their music isn’t too loud then it’s fine. I like them when in the gym only because I lift with a buddy and hate pulling out my headphones all the time and asking him “huh? What’d you say?” If you’re solo or running on the treadmill I’d recommend regular headphones.
@@roslolian11 only sound bleed when really loud. I wear them at the office and almost everywhere without a problem

I own their titanium and air models. I have very bad hearing loss in my right ear. These bone conduction headsets are the only way I can enjoy music at a level that i used to before hearing loss. With normal headphones one ear will always sound significantly louder for me and its not a good experience. Love aftershockz for continuing to improve this technology over the years.
I'll not watch a horror movie with this on... Its gonna send actual shivers down my spine lol
Not funny
These are a great option for lots of us that work in a factory that doesn't allow in ear buds for safety reasons. I have the older version but still works great.
Put your fingers in your ears, the sound is amazing! I use these when I’m working around super loud machinery. I wear the ear plugs with them. Great sound!and I protect my hearing.
Also, the company is amazing and they honor their replacement guarantee. Love them
You're not lying about their great replacement policy. I had bought the Treks Titanium around the time they first came out and had accidentally damaged one of the conducting speakers. I filed for replacement inside the warranty window and had new ones within 2 weeks.
Yes! Me too. The bass is amazing with ear plugs in your ear
@@TheLegendaryTOC I had the exact same experience. They were awesome about replacing.
Hey, have you tried sleeping with them? Would they be good for side sleepers?
@@VedantShetty They wouldn't work for side sleeping. You'd have to lay on them on that side which would likely uncomfortably press them into your head and make them loud on that side.
I have napped on my back with them, but that's tricky too. You have to sort of put them on backwards so that the backstrap hangs under your chin instead of behind your neck. That actually works ok.
I lost all hearing in my left ear about four years ago. The entire Middle ear was removed last year in a radical mastoidectomy procedure.
I JUST found out about this type of device yesterday and I nearly cried. For the first time in over 5 years I was able to hear again.
This type of device needs to be marketed one Hell of a lot more than it is.
Even as a simple six for a short duration. This is something more people should know about
So how well did it work? My brother (45 is a bit deaf from various issues when he was a kid ) but we he has them all full load se we can hear what he's playing, he cant hear us and we are worried he's going to lose what hearing he has left. I believe that there is one more good reason for the bone conduction. There are people, like me, that have a huge problem using the regular - in the ear - versions. I tried every single format, none was able to fit comfortably, or at all sometimes , in my ears. Ok, so my ears are not normal or something. But I've talked with other people with the same problem. Sure the regular bigger around the hear headphones work, but not the more practical in the ear ones. Bone conduction freed me - and others - from walking on the street listening to our music wearing this big headphones covering our ears. That's good in my book :)
I'm with you on this. Regular ear buds either fall out constantly or they hurt my ears. The over the ear ones make me get hot at work. These fix all that for me.
I feel so understood here :'D
I have never known anyone else who had issues with plug headphones. Its great to know that I am not crazy and there are people out there just like me.
I found out about these headphones today, and now I can't wait to get them

So glad Lew is reviewing these updated Aftershokz. He got me into these bone conducting headphones with that original red plastic headset video :) ♥️
You really ought to try them with the ear plugs in ...the sound becomes much “bigger” they are great for people who need to wear safety ear plugs for work and still want to listen to music .....or travelling on a plane.
Put in the earplugs. Your missing out on a HUGE part of the experience.
I have had four AfterShokz - latest is the Aeropex. Reason I've had four is I keep giving them away to friends. I wear them from about 6:00 am until about 10:00 pm - awesome battery life. Yeah - sound isn't perfect but they sound excellent to me. Comfortable as not wearing them at all. Good job!
I absolutely love mine. I wish I would've waited to buy them as ones with a longer battery life came out days after I bought them, but they are great. I work in a loud factory. These allow me to not only listen to my music most of the day, I can do so while also hearing the machines and forklifts around me.
Just purchased a similar product, but quite a bit cheaper. I don’t know if the market has dropped around 60 bucks, or I bought a cheap one. Charging now. Looking forward to trying.
To me it’s the best design we have on a market so far
"They're doing things as a company, they're not sitting around".
If you have hearing loss, these are a game changer. I am deaf in my left ear, and cannot wear any type of normal earbud in either of my ears because my ear canals must be too small. Regular earbuds are excruciating for me. These are awesome and well worth the price.

I accidentally discovered these recently at the Geneva Airport and bought them instantly! Luckily, I was able to test them before buying them. No matter how many different IEMs I've tried, they just didn't work for me.
I think the 'bone conduction technology' is great; adequate sound quality, very comfortable to wear for hours indoors and outdoors, and very safe too.
BTW, while I was trying to find the best position for comfort and sound, I discovered that putting my fingers over my ears next to the OpenRun buds the sound level increased by several DBs! Maybe you people can try and see if you get the same result.

Company watching: WHAT???
Living in Denmark, I bike everywhere. I spend 3+ hours a week on a bike commuting to school / work. And since I love podcasts and music, this is a perfect way to enjoy it without getting run over.
That s how my hearing aid works but mine costs 1000£
Me too I got BAHA's
I had major damage to both of my ears and completely lost my hearing. Somebody suggested I try these since my ears were both closed. Magic. I was able to work and communicate through phone calls until I could get one ear canalplasty which took 6 months due to covid backlogs. I love them.
i mailed jack to see if he can be on my product
I bought these. They are nice but if you increase volume level to around 70% you will feel that weird tingling sensation which can be distracting. I think if I can adjust the fit so they will rest forward like 1inch/2cm away from the ear and more on the bony part, it will be much better. I sent a question to AfterShokz asking them if I can adjust the fit myself by bending the arch around the ear. Unfortunately, they did not respond.
But, these are simply the most comfortable headset I ever used. I don't tolerate in ear earbuds for prolonged use. But I can wear these for the whole day and I forget that I am wearing them. They are also safe while driving because your ears will be open to hear everything.
I hope in the future they can use USB Type-C charging port. I understand the physical/technical and waterproofing limitations but I believe they can do it.
They just need to continue improving their products and I believe in few years they can get everything just right.
Moral of the story, I did not regret buying these.
as someone that owns the TREKZ model from this company, I can say that the best possible experience I've had with them is in regards to mood augmenting music, where you would typically want the full sound blocking shroud headphones but cannot have those.
for example, I will play some binaural beat tracks at work when I need to be able to hear the desk phone ring and such, and my whole environment comes in while I still can hear and FEEL the frequency music full dive.
so for passive listening, these are PERFECT. Best option to replace a dull ambiance whenever possible... also, the battery life is AWESOME.
I'm in the building trade and have been looking for headphones that won't fall out when you're getting up and down, then fall into a bucket of water or paint. These seem great.
NF fans saw that music choice 👀 good job Lew
I wear these walking on treadmill, elliptical machine and stationary bike.......and whenever I need to hear what is going on around me while listening to music, tv etc. They are great for what they were designed.....great battery life......
The whole point of earphones for me is not to talk to no one lol
This is the first time I've ever bought something and unboxed it before I saw an unbox therapy video on it.
For someone like myself, where we have to wear earplugs (mandatory) at work, these would be awesome. I wish you would have tried them with the ear plugs so you could give us your evaluation of that scenario.
Gotta say, I'm glad I watched this. It answers what I really wanted to know... the actual sound quality... without me having to gamble a significant chunk of change on them.
I use my Aftershokz Titaniums almost daily during sports, and wow they still lasting a good beating. Having tried a lot of sport-buds like Jabra, Bose and Jaybird, i still prefer these for the sheer fact that they simply work best for outdoor sports.
Has the beeping noise ever came on when moisture gets in
How's the bass on it? Is it flat?
I got this . Had them for about a week now . I use them all day everyday at work listening to podcasts. The sound clarity over My old bluez 2s are incredible but I do miss the massive sound thumping bass vibration of the older version . I also bought the power beats pro in the same week and I prefer these over any ear buds. I even use these for watching movies . The sound just feels more natural coming from within my head without the ear fatigue of my powet beats pro . If they could improve these to have the thumping bass vibration with the sound clarity of these then I'd be really happy . But I freaking love these the way they are at the moment.
Is it still working now?
I saw NF again, so again I'll compliment you on your good taste, Lew 👌
Shokz (formally AfterShokz) came out with OpenRun Pro in '22. Generational update to Aeropex model it feels more refined in shape and clarity. I wear Shokz bone-conduction 24/7. In-ear headphones are too situational given segments of my day always require outside interaction and even the best speak to chat tech is best served in small bursts as it's tinny and artificial sounding. These are a game changer and I really hope more companies get serious about bone conduction.
Watching this video with my Trekz Titanium and I approve👍
Same here!
I have just bought an e-bike to commute to work. When I walk to work I listen to audiobooks and podcasts. So when you said they would be better for that I was like “yep”! So I have purchased some haha
Something to ask for a Christmas
I use these at work every day. It's nice to be able to work with customers and be able to listen to some music. I have really enjoyed them! Also, there was a customer who was hard of hearing, I let him try mine on because he was curious, and he was so surprised how well he could hear the music!
I use these for audio books at work, and for that they are amazing. And music is still very crisp most of the time but does lack in Bass. But these headphones are the best you'll ever get for awareness of your surrounding's paired with good audio.
Is it legal to drive with these on though? It’s technically just a close up radio that doesn’t block the sound of the outside world so you can still hear
I have the first version. Still work and sound great. The low end and high end are great. Pretty good for an audiophile. But it’s no full speaker set up with a subwoofer and tweeters.
When I saw the earplugs it reminded me of the time I spent working in a auto parts warehouse for Ford. The sound pollution was very intense and I had to us earplugs to protect my hearing. This product would have let me enjoy music on the job yet still protect my hearing.
Lew listening to NF was the HIGHLIGHT
I bought a different pair of AfterShokz after being attacked on a run by off-leash dogs that were roaming a residential neighborhood without any people around. I was wearing headphones at the time and thought I had the music low enough to hear most of my surroundings, but I didn't notice the dogs until I felt teeth in the back of my thigh. I will never run with in-ear headphones again. Love my AfterShokz for running. They also work really well for my job, where i work in a lab and need to be able to hear my labmates and feedback from machines. Would definitely recommend these or similar bone-conduction headphones for times when you need to be aware of your surroundings but still want to listen to music/podcasts/etc.

Isn't the sound quality improved slightly if you wear the ear plugs? Or maybe just the isolation?
Is it like the background music thing from the movies?
Best purchase I have ever made. I do running, cycling and riding my electric longboard and these my friends, are a saviour. I can listen to music while hearing the environment. So way less risk of crashes.

I have just purchased these after my Plantronics Backbeat 2100 gave up 1 week outside of a 12m warranty. I wanted a product that handled and was more resistant to sweat when running and exercising. When running with the Backbeat 2100s my ears would fill up with sweat and I would have to remove to the ear buds to drain them and put them back in my ears. With these AfterShokz headphones, I am anticipating that sweat is no longer an issue since they are outside the ear. I also like the magnetic charging clip, which I think should be more durable as it does not absorb water. The nail in the coffin for the Backbeat 2100s was that they stopped accepting a charge via the micro usb port, and I guess the charge port failure was a complication of operating in a salty sweat laden environment combined with a micro usb port. The Afterworkz product comes with a two-year warranty and just seem like a sturdier construction all around. If you run outside and go cycling it is pretty crucial to be able to hear your environment if you value your life and being responsive to people around you. I listen primarily to audiobooks and podcasts when exercising so these should be perfect. The audio quality however is acceptable even for music. One thing to not though is that on certain frequencies and at higher volumes, you do feel a tingly sensation on your skin, which is not ideal. For 90% of the time this is not an issue, but a deeper male voice reading an audiobook can trigger this. The solution is to turn the volume down a bit and fiddle with the fit and it goes away. Anyway, early days, but I am hopeful.
I gots a pair of bone conduction headphones, so imma watch this vid with bone conduction headphones

There were actually two other models between these and the ones from the first video (the bluez 2s). They were the Trekz Titanium and the Trekz Air. I bought me a set of the bluez 2s after watching the unbox therapy and they were great for my job as a night stocker, but after 6 months of HEAVY use the adhesive for the rubber began to peel. In fact, if I leave the house without them I feel like I am missing something, akin to if I forgot my glasses. I have to recommend any of the versions as they are fantastic. I might even get these new Aeropex because they seem even more comfortable than the ones I currently have, which I sometimes forget that I am wearing (they're that invisible). I definitely recommend.

I have Sudden sensineural hearing loss in Left ear, which means I was able to hear clearly from both ears since birth until I had it in my teens. Theoretically this type of BC headphone doesn't really work in my condition since It's the nerve that's damaged, not the ear canals/inner ear structure
(For details: Weber test, tuning fork on your forehead, is lateralized to the unaffected ear and Rinne test is AC>BC, you can hear clearer with tuning fork near your ear than pressing on your bone)
I will try this once I get the chance though, on the off-chance that I had some kind of mixed HL (hadn't been to audiogram for a while after I learned about this in ENT and can't access to my audiogram chart to confirm which type I really was)
