A few questions: Could you give an example of how to use Scaler EQ on material with complex key changes? Also, could a future update including the option to follow the root note similar to Surfer EQ or could note detection be implemented via midi send the same way you can in Scaler? Great work btw!
Seconded for all of this. Some way of automating the keys and modes would also be useful. Otherwise it's pretty useless for any material that uses modal interchange or non diatonic notes.
Without automation, it's not useless at all. You simply need to add multiple instances of Scaler EQ that each correspond with the individual scale. Would it be a preferable quality of life addition to be able to automate? Yes without a doubt.
For anyone who wants this EQ and doesn't have the money, just know that you can do all of this on your DAW's stock EQ. Just know the key of your track, Google the frequencies of the notes, create individual notch filters for the notes and frequencies, and adjust them accordingly. In many ways, it gives you more control than Scaler EQ. I personally use Pro Q3 as my EQ of choice and it makes this process easier because it has a keyboard at the bottom that you can click to make adjustments based on specific keys.
Not the same thing. Sure with your stock eq (or most eq) you can create a bell or peak/notch filter at A-440 Hz or C-262 Hz but if you boost/cut at 440 Hz you're affecting all frequencies at that point (depending on how wide the Q is) while with this eq it affects just harmonics near that frequency. To re-create this you'll need tens of small peak/notch filters and it would be so time consuming to place everything correctly. edit: And if you mean exactly this (create tens of small peak/notch filters) then yes you're right but now imagine if you want to automate the frequencies and do a sweep... You'll have to automate each and every one of those filters while trying to keep the relative distance between them and... 🤮And if you want to change keys or flip the harmonics... 😵💫For what it can do Scaler EQ is priced very reasonably.
@@jean-pierreboies9749 You're right, yes. It will take a lot of time but I was just stating that it's possible with a stock EQ, especially for people who don't have the money to buy Scaler EQ. I can't speak for Ableton users but in FL, this would take maybe 15 minutes to set up and automating would be easy especially if you use patcher. I was just letting people know that they don't NEED this EQ because it's marketed as this "revolutionary" product, as 90% of plugins are. 🤣
Wow, this is insane.. This thing is outstanding.. That is crazy what this plugin can do to manipulate sound.. The quality is bananas AND, dynamic too.. Ohhhhhhhh my, I believe you guys just changed the game for a lot of sound-designers, sonic nerds etc.. lol.. Incredible demo dude..
would be great to have it only act on the tonal content and not transients, i feel like it affects the esses in a weird way, or maybe the vocal track already had a strong de-esser
Nice EQ! Been playing with it for a few days now and it certainly adds flavour and clarity! And is massively powerful when combined with Scaler 2 to power my instruments. I hope a future update has the Dynamics pop-up bar moved off the frequency window. It's a bit of a nuisance popping up all the time when dialling in frequency removal. Just give it its own static frame beneath the main EQ frame.
DEVS have talked a bit about the focus for the next update and I think Davide mentions it in his live stream that they will make those boxes floating or totally collapsible which we agree will improve the UX.
Testing it out and was wondering if there would be a side chain input. Testing it with reverbs and delays but having to run extra chains instead of having a side chain input. Has great sound design potential and cleaning up stem separations.
Sidechain is actually there! And it's pretty awesome! This works automatically for VST3/AU/AAX in most DAWs, as in: you don't need a button on the plugin to enable/disable the side-chain. However, for VST2, we would need a button to make the plugin work correctly.
I would love the ability to automate switching keys and/or create and save "scales" and then be able to automate switching between them. Adding or subtracting a single note in the scaler EQ creates over 20 tracks of automation. So it would be nice to just be able to switch keys and be able to create and save your own.
Is there a harmonic-follow function? If this plugin had similar note-follow features (both via realtime audio detect or midi input) this would be a serious contender to take over the space from SurferEQ2
Hi Ben, Scaler EQ is great for this. Once you have your key and scale input or detected, I'd suggest for the kick that you boost your root, 5ths and maybe 4ths. That will tune it nicely, you can do so by deselecting the notes as per this video. In terms of in-harmonics be careful not to notch too extremely around the bottom end as this type of filtering will cause post filter decay which is not too much of an issue but just FYI
Like many I get notices about plugins. How about another LA2A? Nope. How 'bout a new limiter? Nope. How 'bout another saturation plugin? Nope. David: How 'bout a new musical EQ? No-... hold on.🤯 Let me get my card.💳
Yes, the Scaler EQ is very capable BUT don't take stuff out just because it allows you to, use your ear mostly and preserve what's not damaging your track. The right amounts of the 'Out-of-Key' frequencies have a role in our 'note' perception, removing them totally lighten the musical context of the intended note.
What’s crazy is I was using fab filter for the longest along side a piano plugin boosting or controlling frequencies that’s was in key of my mix and cutting frequencies that where not and it took my mixing to another level but now I can do these steps even faster sold 🔥🔥🔥😂
I might be doing something wrong but I noticed when I use scaler eq with additive harmonics there is like a 1-2 decay on the notes its adding, like a resonator, which means that anything short and staccato it becomes blurry? is there a way to make it not do this?
Awesome! What, exactly, are the magic shelves doing? It looks to me like they are increasing (or decreasing) the sides of the shelf more than the mids. Is that the case? For both the magic high shelf and the magic low shelf, or is it reversed for the low shelf (i.e. boosting the mids and cutting the sides)?
Interesting concept. If we are going to be so passionately in-depth on frequencies I would like to see flexibility for deviation from the compromising 12 TET and 440hz tuning (this system doesnt truly serve us anymore in this digital age). For scaler I can use it with Entonal Studio. For this i dont think that would work. Also if the peaks become resonant filters and its easily midi learnable this could become an interesting and quite unique instrument for electronic experimental/ambient musicians. If these things would be addressed this could really open up a whole new market.
Any plan for this to have auto gain compensation? This sounds AMAZING no doubt about it, but was wanting to make sure that sometimes when I think it's amazing it might just be slightly louder.

The first relevent information says that Scaler EQ will run in "evaluation mode" and there will be periodic "bursts of white noise." Well, I have my earbuds in and there is no noise at all. But what really irks me is that it says I need to register Scaler EQ by tapping on the logo in the upper left, which will supposedly open a "Registration" area or link. Well, no, it does no such thing! When I tap on the logo it only opens a box with some irrelvent information and nothing at all about Registration.
