Madame Web (Cassandra Webb) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 210, published November 1980, and was created by writer Denny O'Neil and artist John Romita Jr.[2] She is usually depicted as a supporting character in the Spider-Man comic book series, where she appears as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, connected to a life support system resembling a spiderweb. Madame Web is a clairvoyant and precognitive mutant[1] who first appears to help Spider-Man find a kidnapping victim. She is not one of the mutants who lost their power during the "Decimation" storyline. In "Grim Hunt", she is attacked by Ana Kravinoff and her mother Sasha, who kill her, but before she dies she is able to pass her powers of precognition as well as her blindness on to Julia Carpenter, who becomes the next Madame Web. Webb is subsequently resurrected by Ben Reilly before succumbing to the Carrion Virus. Webb is the grandmother of the fourth Spider-Woman, Charlotte Witter. Madame Web has appeared in or served as inspiration for several Spider-Man related media. Rachel Dratch voices "C. Weber", a character loosely based on Madame Web, in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), while Dakota Johnson portrayed Cassie Webb in the eponymous film.
They might not have been amazing but they are sequel worthy, since a sequel can be amazing since people would want a amazing sequel to make up for it, and those two movies are FUN AND ENJOYABLE, just because it's not as good as the previous one doesn't mean it's not sequel worthy and enjoyable, Madame web just sucks, no joy no fun.
Madame Web makes Amazing Spider-Man 2 look like Goodfellas. The sad thing is I like most of these actors! Given some decent material, you might have gotten a good team-up movie. Realistically though, there’s no reason for this movie to exist other than Sony desperately trying to hold onto that Spider-Man intellectual property. No one was demanding a Morbius movie, a Madame Web movie, and Kraven the Hunter will most likely flop in a similar fashion.

Dakota Johnson fired her agents due, in part, to Madam Web (reportedly she signed on based on the story pitched to her and they changed it into this garbage during production) So that shows how sh*t it was. The original idea was to adapt a comic mini series where it followed Peter Parker's parents during the 90's as they did their jobs as CIA/SHIELD agents, while secretly trying to live their lives as normally as possible.

And people hated Halloween Ends for basically sidelining Michael for most of the movie even though he was still in it. IDK why they are wanting a shared universe out of Halloween and it doesn’t make sense. It took 3 years between Dune movies and it's expected to be good. Wait... how many years separated Star Wars films under Lucas? 3 years. Could it be that taking time to let a script marinate so it's plausible and entertaining is the way to go? Maybe not. I mean, it's not like this theory has been proven or anything.
Disney/Marvel will be doubling down on their projects. They couldn't care less about others' opinions on the success or failure of their endeavors; it's all about delivering their desired message. Many media outlets are incentivized to provide positive feedback regardless of a project's performance, as they feel obligated to stand in solidarity.
I'd argue they're already comparable to DC. May be even worse. Venom 1 was the only decent live action Sony Spiderman movie. Morbius sucked, Venom 2 sucked, Kraven looks stupid and Madame Webb was destined to fail. SONY needs to stick to electronics
Here's the thing though: does anyone care whether or not this film gets a sequel? Is anyone actually remotely invested enough in the Sony Spider-Man universe to get upset over the films being bad? I saw Venom, Venom 2 and Morbius, and found each of them to be bad films... not enough for me to get angry over them, but enough for me to forget what happened in them within the next hour. So really, let them make a sequel or let them can the project... I don't think anyone has a strong opinion either way.
Two things I thought about during the video: 1. There is this prevailing thought of "Like what you like, just don't tell people what you hate about something, since you're ruining it for everyone that loved it". The problem is, constructive feedback is the only way to improve. For creatives, they need to know what went right (and wrong) otherwise there will be no progress. In fact, comparing and contrasting what worked and what didn't in movies and shows is a great way to see why the great things we loved were so good! Not that it will work with executives, because they don't even like movies (or comics, or games) in the first place. That's why hitting them in the their wallets hurts more. Plus most of the people creating entertainment these days treat any criticism as a personal attack against them and any marginalized group they use as a shield. 2. Whatever happened to "giving the customer what they want"? Nobody was excited for Madame Web, and the numbers show it. It got beaten out in opening weekend by a biopic of Bob Marley. When was the last time Bob Marley was in the collective cultural consciousness? And yet that is what happened, to Sony's shame. But this isn't a problem just for Sony, because Disney has been guilty of this for years, first with Star Wars, but later with Marvel, as The Marvels' disastrous run has shown. And what's worse are the defenders (shills more like) that turn around and say, "Oh these Star Wars/Marvel fans are just impossible to please, they are so entitled!" as if it is an excuse to not listen to us because it is pointless. We are NOT impossible to please, since I can point to a number of things that both Disney Star Wars and Marvel did right (Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor, Clone Wars Siege of Mandalore, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War, Infinity War). All we want are well written stories that respect the characters and preserve the legacy of the franchises we love. But that would be too easy, as every media company these days are filled to the brim with people that actively hate the franchises they are a part of (just look at what happened with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League). Seriously this trend needs to stop, because it got old years ago.
Quality entertainment is partially rare because Hollywood is afraid of offending someone. Not enough female heroes, we don’t need female heroes, etc…… Hollywood is too scared to offend somebody, so they make bad movies. They’ve lost sight of what people want, and that is to be ENTERTAINED by a GOOD MOVIE or GOOD SHOW.
It's smell like a premature victory dance for Sony... They think it was a safe bet, so they planned a sequel. Of course they were wrong, and they cvan't really erased their projects and intents after seeing the result (here is an example where madam web power could have been useful ^^).
Dakota fired her own agent after this, says ALOT. Then she turns around and says I’m all in? That makes no sense. Are they trying to make a FEMALE Spider-Verse?
Also She is a multiversal being, before you get confused about what universe she is from, first you need to understand her as a character… and yes in marvel she is one of the most boring character but quite important and powerful, even if the text wasn’t great I think the way she was portrayed was quite accurate
In fact I would say that fans like her for being mysterious and that we don't know much about her besides why she's always in her chair being that she suffered from an illness that affected her body so her husband made the chair for her.
Jesse - as I commented on another video: The feminist woke Hollywood crowd has a limited time to self correct to what the market wants. The snobs think they are immune but we (both men and women) won't pay to watch what we don't like. Given the pandemic slowdown, the lack of a creative new franchise in a very long time (DEI doesn't help with that), and all the big name actors dying off American culture may just get in the habit of not going to movies or streaming movies. If that happens it will be a long long time to get the audience back - we will expect garbage every time. There have been quality women characters we have all liked for a very long time - think of Dana Scully in X-files (how old is that) and Samantha Carter in Stargate and even Susan Ivonova in Babylon 5. This will all work out just like it should - maybe we need Hollywood to implode for these narcissists to learn their lesson.
Just because they "want" a sequel doesn't mean it "will" get green lit. Remember, this is all BEFORE the films release and the opening weekend box office. All can change afterward.
Yeah you’d think so, however they did rehire the morbius writers after that being called the worst superhero movie of all time. So who knows at this point
@thejessegrant that may be true they did. But it all comes back to money and numbers. Many studios have done this all the time, like what you reported. However, once the box office numbers come out and losses , that's when you see what they do. Look at Star Wars and how many projects were announced despite losses and how many got either shelved or on indefinite hiatus. All I'm saying is that what they say with a grain of Himalayan salt and wait and see. Until then, we can laugh at their expense.
The one plus side is that Ms. Moner is a beauty queen. But that is not enough to convince me to see it or like it. 3:56-4:05 It's running successfully, all right, but it doesn't mean that people are seeing it or liking it.
Just remember that Sony does need to continue to produce films in the spiderman universe in order to maintain their ownership of the rights to the franchise. Spiderman may be a product of Marvel, but they sold the rights to the Spiderman universe prior to the sale of Marvel to Disney.
Of course, the actors would do a sequel. Actors would sell their kids' souls for one more minute of fame and money. They've shown who they are now, thanks to social media. The only thing social media is good for.
Don’t be so self righteous and sanctimonious. Actors make a lot of money from their work. You can hate the project, but don’t think for a moment if you were an actor you wouldn’t jump at the chance to do any role you got. Money is money, everyone needs it. Or are you going to say you go to work for free?
Ugh. A bad set up for new characters to pop into an established universe is still bad. This stinks of Marvel agenda pushing. "We have to have female Spider people existing before Peter Parker." Bravo for Red Alert insert about being stupid. Very accurate. Anything pushed by Iger, Kennedy, and Filoni will be garbage. Maybe Madame Web has a better extended cut. I doubt it. Sony should have searched Spider-man comics for better more popular characters. Bad writers, and bad director in Madame Web.
I really... REALLY don't understand how this shit still happening. They delivered a poor product, people hated said product, they are burning millions for an audience that doesn't even exist and they will still burn more on a possible sequel? How can people fail upwards like this? It's simply paradoxical! I cannot see any reasonable way on how Hollywood have managed to stay relevant with a few hits for each dozens of floops.
They need to place all these actors and writers on contract for guaranteed five more sequels! Please encourage them to make more madame Webb movies. The more of these movies they make the sooner Hollywood Will go bankrupt. Stop giving Hollywood free advice on how to improve their bottom line. Instead, let’s agree with them which is the equivalent to throwing a match on the fire.
I honestly don't care if Madam Web fail and in fact I believe its failure would be a good thing for hollywood because it would further incentives studio to pivot away from superhero movies, tent poles and franchises and get back to making real original films. Of course the only people that seems so upset is the nerd crowd.
As another non movie example I could add Hazbin Hotel. IT HAS BEEN 4 YEARS since the pilot dropped and the fanbase waited patiently. We have been rewarded with a FANTASTIC season 1. Was it worth the wait? Yes and no. Yes because we got a fantastic story kept together and NOT destroyed by the wokeness. No because a lot of fans have walked away since it took them so ling to make it and that it was under Amazons terms

I don't know what anybody is talking about, I loved this movie it was awesome
We still haven’t gotten Spider-Man vs Venom yet.
❤ the Ryan Reynolds Harold and Kumar clip in this one
I saw Bob Marley: One Love (2024) instead.
Do you recommend it? I’m thinking of checking it out. I really loved Bob Marley’s music
@@thejessegrantHighly recommended.
Just give me Sydney Sweeney and her huge bazungas in a skin tight Spider-Woman suit or cancel the IP!
Or a black cat costume.
Why does this movie feel like CW made it
They should have gone with a Jessica Drew Spider-woman film. Shes reasonably popular and not directly linked to Spider-Man and visually stunning.
Quality entertainment is partially rare because Hollywood is afraid of offending someone. Not enough female heroes, we don’t need female heroes, etc……
Hollywood is too scared to offend somebody, so they make bad movies.
The idiots who ruined Game of Thrones got fired from all future projects. Yet these idiots are allowed to ruin superheroes
Dakota fired her own agent after this, says ALOT. Then she turns around and says I’m all in?
That makes no sense. Are they trying to make a FEMALE Spider-Verse?
Thank God for sites who steam these types of movies ... imagine paying for these flops
Well Beyond the Spider-verse will help Sony critically and financially.
You forgot one. Universal Studios’s dark universe that ended when the first film mummy came out and made no money and reviews were rotten.
"successful run" = running to the parking lot before everyone does 15 minutes into the movie
Abahahahaah
Madame Web & Kraven The Hunter will be the downfall of Sony after Morbius was a disaster!
Sony needs to find writers that's qualified for job instead of keep bringing back morbius writers.
I loved that clip that said “… you are made of stupid” thank you.
Ahahaha
Dakota Johnson: This movie was weird, I don't even know if it's good or not. Sure, I'll do another one.
The one plus side is that Ms. Moner is a beauty queen. But that is not enough to convince me to see it or like it.
3:56-4:05 It's running successfully, all right, but it doesn't mean that people are seeing it or liking it.
When good becomes bad and bad becomes good, you know when people can’t tell what’s what and how to bring back the original meaning of these things.
100%
@@thejessegrant😊
I think they should not do a sequel to Madame Webb. I don’t want to see them do a sequel to Madame Webb.
Love yours and Frightened Irish vids ❤😊
All those decisions are made when the idea is pitched probably. Money people need to know how much they will earn before anything is done.
It’s Webbing time
What a move from Sony 😂
Not different from the treatment of Venom or morbius
To quote an old computer science phrase I believe is relevant here, garbage in, garbage out.
You're really good at this kid. So keep up the good work
Thank you!
My wife and i basically don't watch movies anymore
I still find it odd that Madam Web’s trailer came out after KRAVEN and came to theaters before KRAVEN
Does anybody remember when they did Captain America in Spider-Man in 1978 I've watched both of those movies
Hi, Mr.Grant;
I, shared this, on LinkedIn & Facebook, perhaps, you'll obtain new viewership.
All the best
Shaun 🦉of NYC 🗽☕
Why would they create a sequel to a movie nobody asked for ?! Promise you it will be cancelled
You’d think
Yeah, this looks like it's gonna work 😂. Rehire the same writers who wrote Morbius and this shit and somehow expect different results.
Good, let them continue to lose money. Wont affect me. I already know Im not touching it. Not even on a free site.
I honestly don't care if Madam Web fail and in fact I believe its failure would be a good thing for hollywood because it would further incentives studio to pivot away from superhero movies, tent poles and franchises and get back to making real original films. Of course the only people that seems so upset is the nerd crowd.
Omg it’s square head guy again
(All said with love! That’s his thing and I’m here for it!)
Spiderman without... spiderMAN is a guaranteed bust.
I googled myself and I never found anything about me. it pays to be nobody nowadays
Remember, be Def Leppard, not Quiet Riot
You're crazy, Madame Web is the best movie to come out in 24 so far
They say lots of things but eventually reality hits and they will have to make money. There will be no sequel.
"Madame Web getting a sequel"
me: and I thought my jokes were bad....
Bahahahahaha
That cut of James franco is always on spot
Sony really thinks there is a market in being the living embodiment of “mom can we have ____” “we have ____ at home”
How adorable
Sometimes I wonder if those Hollywood people love failure so much that they release this crap in cinemas
Ahahahaha
As another non movie example I could add Hazbin Hotel. IT HAS BEEN 4 YEARS since the pilot dropped and the fanbase waited patiently. We have been rewarded with a FANTASTIC season 1.
Was it worth the wait? Yes and no.
Yes because we got a fantastic story kept together and NOT destroyed by the wokeness.
No because a lot of fans have walked away since it took them so ling to make it and that it was under Amazons terms
As long as they all get paid they don't care if their product sucks.
