- part 1 of our best dress series! i based my decisions off of a few different criteria which included: outfits that are generally just iconic/memorable (like princess leia's white dress), dresses i would wear if i could, and outfits that were just brilliant decisions on the costume designer's part. obviously this is just my opinion.

That's a good one! Also The Princess Diaries (the first movie wear she accepts her status as a princess and dances with Michael & her wedding dress) I don't include her coronation dress because it was more of a beige than a white.

medieval period predates all of that
Gone with the wind was set in the 1860's, slightly before, during, and after the civil war (1861-1865)
Medieval covers a thousand years, give or take.

I've decided to wear a white suit to my wedding because I feel like it's the most me lol I love dresses but I could never find the white wedding dress that I'd envisioned. I hyped it up soooo much as a little girl that it's basically nonexistent. But it was for the best because I fell in love with a white suit. Life is funny.
i think white suits are gorgeous!!! if you have a summer wedding a nice flowy pair of white straight leg slacks + oversized suit jacket (and no top 😏) is a casual yet sexy look that is surprisingly timeless. i know a lot of people go for the slim cigarette pant, but i think oversized is wayyy more chic.
(if you google “oversized white suit women” that’s what i’m talking about!)

This is a great list but y'all left out the most iconic white dress in film history: Marilyn Monroe's halter dress that billows out from under her when she steps on a grate in The Seven Year Itch. Elizabeth Taylor could've had three entries bc you're talking in the history of film then there's also Father of The Bride: Her wedding dress was immaculate, her dress in A Place in the Sun, and her white slip in Butterfield 8. I would add Lucy's funeral Dress in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Jane's wedding dress from 27 Dresses, and Angelina Jolie's white dress she wore while being a complete badass in Wanted.

Ironically, I think the white sari outfit Lalita wears to her friend's wedding in Bride & Prejudice (where she gets her heart broken by the Mr Darcy character) is actually more gorgeous than the full-on trad red+gold sari she wears to her own wedding once they reconcile...?
The first one from My Fair Lady is my all-time favorite movie dress. It’s gorgeous. I also love the second one from that movie and the one from Gigi. The dress from Enchanted makes the little girl in me squeal with happiness.
Damn you do your research. Only here can we go from Gigi to Pink Panther, from Malena to Gentleman Prefer Blondes.
I love little details like how Sandy's dress is pure white at the dance which signifies her innocence and purity and her antithesis is wearing black a very 'sinful' and 'lustful' color that signifies the more 'experience' she has and when danny ends up with her at the end of the dance this finally makes Sandy question if she is good enough for him and questions their relationship.
