Are we certain of that? I have heard such sentiment voiced by Michael and Eddie, but Geoff has always countered that notion. I know it's a real shame what happened here. I still hold that they are the most underrated super band ever. They really had something special going in their prime. At one time they were going to do a film and were bringing on investors for this. That fell through with all their disputing. I dream of one day this group coming together for collaborative projects which herald the greatness they once had.

Actually, DeGarmo was the primary song writer in combination with Wilton and Tate for most of the time he was with the band. He was also the glue that held the band together. He was the one that kept the business side of the band running as President. After the departure of DeGarmo, Queensrÿvche began a very fast downward spiral. The split was only a matter of time.

I love Tate but just like Halford he has lead singer disease. I love the Ryche even more than Priest. Just like JP....I think their top 3 albums are Defenders, Screaming and the Ripper led Jugulator. I did not miss Halford and the first couple missing Tate....I did not miss him..... music matters, not just a voice. I love every member of Ryche but truth be told....losing DeGarmmo was HUGE and Mindcrime 2 a total failure. I support the band. Also truth be told...the band were ALWAYS amazing with the fans, Tate very pretentious....same thing with a drummer of a band I truly love with all my heart.....Rush. Alex and Ged we're awesome with fans but Neil a punk Yet, Neil wanted to write books and have fans but those books but to hell with signing a book and shaking the hand of a fan....nah, dude was too good for that. Talk about the height of pretentious. Again the band matters and if you think a guitar player is just another guitar player ....then do you truly appreciate the music made? Example, I love Ozzy but if not for Randy or Jake.... In zzy could NEVER come up with Bark on his ok w let alone the masterpiece known as Diary of a Madman. He obviously has a God-given talent that very few people have; a freaking awesome voice. And when you literally spend 30 years surrounded by nothing but people telling you how great you are, it would be almost impossible for ANYONE not to let it go to their head.

Jeff is a good Vocalist and that is all the credit that I will give him.
Back in 1990 when I met Queensryche, I only met Scott, Eddie, Michael and Chris. These guys were gentlemen and thankful and considerate to all the people. Jeff on the other hand, stormed thru everyone, went to the Prevost Tour Buss and slammed the Door. On his way to the Tour Bus, Jeff refused to Autograph anything and did not want his picture to be taken with anyone. That alone pissed me off. Back in 1990, Queensryche has never played a show in Duluth, MN., so first impressions do go a long way with a lot of people. I have met a lot of great Musicians during my Life (Motley Crue, Firehouse, Winger, Cinderella, Faster Pussycat, Poison, KISS, Sammy Hagar, Godsmack, Warrant, Dokken, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Tesla, Trixter, Metallica and Ozzy just to name a few) and I fully understand that People, regardless of status, do have bad days. Having fame and fortune cane be overwhelming at times, but what Jeff did and how he treated people, was completely rude, unprofessional and completely disrespectful. When you are in the Music Industry, you are to take your Fans seriously and show them respect and gratitude.
Here we are 31 years later and I remember that day, like it was yesterday. What a complete disappointment and I still feel sorry for those people who wanted something so simple, such as a Autograph, or even a picture.

Scott interestingly enough didn't really like talking about his own music as opposed to other bands, bands that he praised and bands that he flat out said were sh*t. He just happened to bring up Geoff, he said that he didn't know Geoff and never met the guy but that he had an amazing voice and he felt that he was a seriously underrated musician. He said the band f*cked up bcuz of poor marketing and management. I wonder if Scott was referring to his wife (Geoff's) since she was pretty much running the show at the time before the band fired her and Geoff. It's a he said, she said situation. RIP Scott 🤘

Its really effed up how they pushed Tate out. One of the reasons WHY the band mates did that (IMHO) was for writing credits and publishing credits. Based on the LONG story told by the other band members, Geoff was a narcissist's narcissist! He and his wife Susan gradually took over control of the entire band in the 90s and 2000s, making ALL the decisions on every aspect of Queensryche, from songwriting, touring, merchandising, legal decisions, etc etc. Supposedly Geoff and Susan froze everyone out, and didnt allow any input into the direction the band was heading. He REFUSED to sing most of their classic songs on tour, focusing only on newer, less popular material.
Any time the other bandmates tried to stand up to him or his wife on any of their totalitarian decisions, Geoff would give them the ultimatum "do what we say, or ill quit the band".
Then Geoff sold the rights to the Operation Mindcrime concept for a movie, but, as usual, he did it without telling the band. Worse yet, he had set it up so that he alone profited from it, even though it should've been split equally 4 ways.
Thats only a few examples, and there are many, many more. Some even worse.

Nothing more depressive than a No-Leader thinking he can be better than the true leader, and try to take control just because, no more reason than just because.
Definitively Geoff at one moment should've hired a "Jerry McGuire" or just beat the $h1t physically out of them to submit them and regain the machine's control... but I guess he did just that for about 30 years until, that breaking day, he must have gotten tired (understandable, he is no 20 anymore...)

Not the the other members of QR were not all part of the sound-but if DGarmo didn't write such profound lyrics and if Tate didn't sing those lyrics then you wouldn't really have QR. Queensryche will live on as long as people listen to music. They are timeless. Queensryche 2.0 has some of the musical chemistry. It was a struggle for me to adjust to the band without jeff tate and the voice did not fit the new guys face. Due to my love of the Tate years, i find myself wanting more. OK kids, there comes a time in almost every band where people can not work with each other due to creative differences. Who was the one snatching peoples Iphones to keep them from taking video? Who was the one telling people in the crowd that they sucked? Take a good listen to Frequency Unknown and the namesake disc released by those who have been the writing core of Queensryche since the departure of Chris Degarmo. I normally do not chime in on things like this but seriously people..... take a break from whatever your world is and breathe in a little reality, if someone can be fired from a band and replaced do you truly think thay had that much of a stake in the brand name from the beginning? if you truly know the history of the band, you know Geoff was a hired gun for the recording of the original EP and had no real interest in staying with the band until a major label deal came along. Yes Geoff ONCE had powerful vocals but his style and direction have changed. The fight for the brand name is all about the ease of marketability of new product. Why should one person have control of it when there are 3 other lifelong, before the introduction of Tate, members still dedicated to the project. For F&#K$ sake people, quit believing the spin of whatever side you choose to takein this situation and look at the facts, This is politics plain and simple, believe whatever side gives the answers that sound best to you instead of doing the research and making your own decision..... that is why the ENTIRE PLANET IS SCREWED, because people believe in the answers handed to them instead of facts and their own point of view. Keep letting everything be handed to you on a sliver platter in false idolatry and you will be nothing more then Soylent Green

Tate HAD a virtuoso voice, and still a good voice, but NO ONE can hit notes they did twenty or thirty years ago...sorry, those are the facts...he ain't what he once was. The only rock singer I have heard that was a virtuoso, (voice and guitar) that has been totally honest about it is Rik Emmett. He used to be abke to hit F#s every night with ease, 14th fret on 1st string of a guitar, but freely admits that before he stopped touring had to tune down an octave....nobody's voice stay 25 forever!

DeGarmo's departure to Queensryche was what Steve Clark's death was to Def Leppard. Neither band has been the same since losing an indispensable member who was both an awesome guitarist and songwriter.

...and disregard the fact that the majority of the band kicked "him" out. Numbers don't lie. It must have been Unanimous, minus ONE!

Leave the past behind, dear Geoff! And look out for the future, with all the gifts the past brought to you! I hope my English is good enough to understand... I loved the young appearance in the past - and now as we all grew older I still love your appearance and what you say about live! It's so true.

I'm not defending anyone but I'm glad I could listen to his side of the story. I wish he'd leave the name of Queensryche and move on. Although I cannot think of the banf without all of them.

THANKS GEOFF TATE FOR YOUR EXTRAORDINARY VOICE AND YOUR VISION. YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN .........

    • @kiern01
      @kiern01 10 лет назад +1

He's not dead. Great voice, definitely, but his "vision" is terrible. His vision has been most of the stuff that came after Empire (which has been steadily going downhill). Before that it was more of a collaborative effort. His "vision" has been to try as hard as possible to get away from the sound and style that made them popular.

I met Geoff at a meet and greet (one that cost me 50 bucks, by the way...), and I can tell you this: he is a jerk. I'm a vocalist and he is my biggest inspiration. I told him this when I met him and he stared at me for a second and then told me "thanks, I really appreciate that" in the most forced and uncaring way possible. He specifically seated himself in the middle as to make it nearly impossible to get a picture with him. He signed my Warning album, and I could see him scowl a bit as he scribbled his name across the front. Not even a smile the whole time. The man has just become an arrogant, self absorbed megalomaniac who has no respect for his fans.

while what you describe could very well be true, we dont know exactly how ypu were acting and what you said.. maybe you came off sideways, or he thought you were coming sideways. a lot of rockers (especially replaced) rockers who become famous and meets lots of fans all the times and hear the same thing all the time just dont care anymore, theyre people to and they get sick of it. chances are he was only doing meet and greet because the record company and promoters made him

Id have spit on you your ingrate.. no other singer of tates ilk even do meet and greets as hes fucking exhausted... what did you want Tate to do? blow you?... I know Geoff and hes a great guy and always has been

Geoff spitting on the other members was career suicide. No matter what the conflict is resorting to degradation like spitting is unacceptable.

Jordan, I have to agree with you. In the early 80's just before the Warning album came out I was at a club to see TKO and all the Queensryche members where there. I meet Chris, Eddie , Scott and Geoff. Chris and Eddie took a couple of minutes to talk to me and Scott sat down at a table next to us. My friend said that it was Chris and I said no it's the drummer Scott, then Scott turned to me and shook my hand and said your right I'm the drummer. Later in between sets I saw Geoff standing there and wanted to tell him I can't wait for their album to be released and he said he didn't have time for me, I was ok with that but the way he said it was like he was all high and almighty. Please remember this was before they become real big.

Just a fan here but back in the day I too had the thought that these seemed to get along very well and would stick together. Well things happen and people change. I wish all of the band the best of luck! You guys are still awesome!✨🤘✨

I don't think so. Without that giant voice that is Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo wouldn't be where he is now doll.

lol yeah right. Queensryche are doing just fine in the year 2016 with Todd. Geoff Tate has done nothing relevant to anything since leaving the band.

I'm 53 and I'm a fan of theirs(his) from the get-go in the early 1980's!...I've seen them them twice- once opening up for Ozzy on his Ultimate Sin tour and once in Geoff's freakin' awesome Operation Mindcrime (which is my favorite concert besides Soundgarden's last tour) NO ONE in Rock can match Tate's voice! I'm on his side and it's a shame how the other mates ganged up on him, I understand that both parties are responsible for their actions but wtf happened to getting along with each other and keeping the fans happy?-(it's a rhetorical question but I am a bit steamed!) He is trained in operatic style that's what sets him apart from the rest!

Saw his solo tour here in San Antonio a few months ago and my wife and I were just frickin' blown away! Queens... who??? Sorry, there's no Queensryche without Geoff!
I'm willing to bet there's plenty of blame to go around...

The rest of the band are interchangeable and replaceable....
    Geoff is not.

I seen the Tour with Metallica in the 80s. I wouldn't go see the queensryche of today. I've seen alot of bands and I consider Geoff Tate one of the best vocalists I've seen so far.

There is no Queensryche without Geoff Tate, just like there is no Styx without Dennis DeYoung.
