- Ever wanted to find Gold at the spot that started the California Gold Rush in 1848 ? Well come along for a tour of the Marshall Gold Discovery Park and Sutter's Mill along the banks of the South Fork of the American River. James Marshall discovered Gold here in Coloma January 24 1848 while constructing a Mill for John Sutter that started the Great California Gold Rush. Lets see if we can find some Gold just like they did back in 1848 !!!

thanks Joe it was a great trip looking forward to going back
Nicely done! I very much enjoyed the history lesson 🍻 The geese smelled the eggs cooking and the deer were looking for a grill.....invite them all over for dinner! Of course you have bailing wire....the overlooked duct tape! You'd make a good farmer!
Bailing Wire, Pry Bar, and a Come along covers just about everything !!!!!!! LOL

Right on Jeff, great vid. It gave me chills down my spine thinking about the old timers digging right there where you are.
I went to the Auburn State rec. park a couple of weeks ago, can't believe how much flood gold there is there. I dug one hole for 4-hours and got about 10-40 colors each pan, about 10 pans in all, some good size flakes & lots of small pieces. So many places to dig & crevice, lots of crumbly bedrock. The American River's do live up to their reputation. I'm going to have to take my wife to the Sutter Mills sometime. Thanks for the California Gold Rush history, pretty cool,
Serg
Nice job on the Gold keep at it !!!! thanks for watching
I have been watching you and Gary for a couple of years now. You have given me gold fever. I would love to come to California and do some gold panning. I live in Indiana, the small creek next to my house has flower gold. But that's all we have here. No nuggets. Keep up the videos. I really enjoy your adventures. Thanks
Thanks Jeff there’s always Tim’s Dig in July on the Yuba if your up for a road trip !!!!!
Thank you for the tour of Sutter Mill and the beautiful river and area around it! I love the fact you found the sniffer bottle and and a new pan! You even found teeny tiny gold and a fishing weight in case you need to catch dinner! Love the video and it looks like you had a great day!
thanks Susan

Nice video. I was at Marshall state park 2 years ago,I'm from Vermont I did a backpacking trip from sac town I believe it was 43.miles I would have to check route number on map but It was an amazing trip. Especially to walk and backpack through the foothills from sac town and Coloma. I also backpacked the route 49 from Coloma to Auburn. That was the end of my 3 day backpacking trip was fun.
Sounds like a fun trip !!!!!!!!
Great share
Thanks
Never been there. The "cradle of America". Been by it, all around it, and now i've seen it so i won't have to visit it. Great video.
I didn't show it all !!!!!!!! Thanks for watching, you could always stop and enjoy an Ice Cream while checking out the park !!!!!
@@Smithsgold Ice cream? Yee-Haa!! Count on it.
A picturesque video from the historic place where it all began. From Marshall to Makaha the connection is beautiful scenery. Thanks for grabbing the safety glasses. It would have been too easy if the long snouted snuffer had gold. Patience and persistence paid off and you found gold. Team Jeff for the win. See you soon. Aloha

Great video jeff!, Thank you for posting I like the way you put the camera on the beautiful American River and the forest and the campground there in coloma. My family's new 10 acre ranch is 6 MI away! By gold hill. As soon as I cut the two acres of blackberries along 700 ft of Indian Creek,, that are lined by hundreds of feet of stack stone the old timers pulled out of the creek, in the historic Cold springs mining district,, I want to invite everybody up there to have a gold rendezvous. All are welcome and finders keepers. I just got a lot more work to do clearing the trails and creekside.
Jan that sounds like a good time !!!!! will you be at Tim's dig in July ?
Yes I will be there God willing and the Creeks don't rise! Last summer I spent 140 days cutting fire fuel out of the cold springs property with a firefighters gas mask on 8 miles away from the cow door fire was terrifying. I cut out 2 mi of ATV track and dug 2000 ft of fire line including a downhill mountain bike trail to the creek. We've got a Yamaha 700 quad with trailer and we got baby chickens now our first farm animals. I have got to cut the blackberries out of the creek soon or it will be too dangerous to use the blade on the brush cutting saw, commercial weed wacker
@@janjohannessmith7033 Sounds like a lot of work good luck !!!!

@@billcrockett200 LOL !!!!!!
The early miners of coloma, CA on the American River realized the entire valley was the gold ore deposit in the alluvial gravels.
Hi jeff, thanks for posting, my family bought 10 acres on Cold springs road six miles away at historic Cold springs mining district near gold hill, for where you are in this video. The historic wagon road from placerville to coloma. I work 2,000 hours last year cutting fire fuel through the cow door fire with a gas mask on. Last week I cleared out 1500 ft of blackberries in historic Indian Creek, cold springs, El Dorado county next week I will go back with a metal detector in Gold pans and a mosquito hat on to see what the old timers left. On my family's private property. If there's anything there I will set up a high banker! Thanks for all the videos and I really learned a lot. I met Todd once and Adam. Looking forward to the July event that Tim is hosting at Union campground. I am praying that there will be no forest fires cuz this is the worst season coming up.
@@janjohannessmith7033 good luck I hope you find some cool stuff and a few nuggets see you in July !!!!!
I would love to get down there.
Gold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My parents moved from Missouri to San Francisco area in late 60's. Didn't stay long and headed north to Oregon and Washington but didn't stay long and went back to Missouri. Later they came to Southern California and stayed. I have had a good successful life here but I think that I would have enjoyed Northern California. Not San Francisco today though.
Most Northern Californians don’t include SF in the North we let central California have them !!!! LOL
The mill that started it all
Number One !!!!!!
These greedy Oldtimers didn't leave nearly enough for future generations :p
that's for sure !!!!!!
One day we'll find one of those
Eluvious missed spots that got those huge nuggets and a lot of them
I hope so that would be super Cool !!!!
I think I’ve found 3 or 4 snuffers in the past couple years. Not a speck of gold in any of them. Most of the time, the guy that loses his bottle isn’t the guy on the gold. Hahaha
Free prospecting tools are always awesome though. Thanks for the adventure!
I think that's the third or forth one I've found or the kids found and they always seem to find Gold in them !!!!!
@@Smithsgold that’s awesome!
@@Tony_Brandt Thanks
Unfortunately I've lost 4 snuffers so far, one had all my gold from a few months of prospecting in it, around 7 grams I'd guess, the other 3 only a gram or less
@@jeffellison8427 need to make a lanyard and tie that thing to your person! Sorry to hear that you lost all that gold. It’s so much work to get! I’ll admit that I’ve had one float down stream on me once but was lucky I noticed it quick. Charged down river 100 yards and found it in a eddy! Got lucky I suppose but I was determined not to lose my gold. Lol
So now it’s tied up with 550 paracord….

The Californian Nugget.
There's still plenty to be found !!!!!
Well , looking like a win win situation on the south fork Jeff, beautiful footage, free snuffer, free pan, not much gold but still golden moments... take care bro. And Gary is still whipping yer pants off. Better get out the detector and go nugget hunting...
the next video it's back to nugget hunting !!!!!!
gotta know hit the piece if it brakes not gold. junk. if it deforms bends most likely AU. have a good day boss nice
Thanks !!!!!
I live in hangtown California and own a 35 acre placer gold mine
Somewhere on fort Jim road
