  • The Gold Rush may be over, but panning for gold is still very much alive in California.
Deep in the Angeles National Forest, about an hour's drive from L.A., is a group of dedicated "gold diggers" who meticulously examine the San Gabriel River and pan for gold.
Even though much of California's gold is gone, many Angelenos believe otherwise.
Reporter Judy Muller interviews Bernie McGrath, a prospector who turned his life around after spending years hooked on heroin. McGrath is one of many regulars who work a stretch of the San Gabriel River, patiently gold prospecting with the hopes of finding flakes and nuggets of gold.

Placer Gold is a renewable resource, it washes out of the lode deposits every year.
with the drought it ha allowed access to areas perilously inaccessible I've been prospecting for the last 40 years, and finding color in your pan, makes any day...Golden!

What Fish? All the illegals and their dirty diaper brigade not packing out trash. TRASH IN TRASH OUT!!!! Jerry Brown is what is killing California just like his father and sister.

@@philipmorphew6301 that statement is false. Using a dredge also cleans up heavy metals. I have found and collected mercury in just a gold pan. Plus what do you think happens during floods or spring runoff? A dredge is no comparison to nature. The power of a flood really stirs up sediment and heavy metals.
