There is sweetness in her voice and natural attractiveness in all languages. She is alive with her work and always appears , it was yesterday that she did her performance. Great actress,
She spoke Swedish, born in Sweden so her native language. German, because her mother was German and she lived in Germany for a short time. English, because of her Hollywood career and she and her first husband moved to the U.S. Her 2nd husband was Italian and three of her children were born in Italy and where she raised her children. She spent her last years living in Paris and she did some French theatre and TV so she learned French.
Made a film in Nazi Germany, The Four Companions in 1938. She had no interest in politics and was rather oblivious to Nazism at the time. Her husband, Petter Lindstrom was however and advised her to never make another one there.
I think the reason why I enjoy her a bit more than any other actress was because she didn’t fix her face or body to fit “Hollywood” society. She didn’t let fame get in her head with her fashion. She looks like a regular off the street. And being regular is more appealing to me than someone who is trying to fake their way with glam and plastic to get ahead of everyone. She also wasn’t as innocent as people wanted her to he which made her more human. Yea she jumped from one partner to another having different children but to me she’s just like a normal person and Hollywood tried to put a pedestal for good girls who behaved and didn’t like the fact she jumped from marriage to marriage and had children out of wedlock. I hated how Hollywood canceled her because of her human-ness. Like guys can do exactly what she did but when she does it…op…sound the alarms, a woman is acting crazy and out of line!
Well, Swedish and German were her mother tongue, so it’s 3 foreign languages but those remarkably fluently! Her English was btw excellent and I don’t hear any “thick” accent- she sounds very British with a delightful hint of Swedish.
Unlike garbo Bergman got a good education she was upper bourgeoisie from the right side of Stockholm and a couple of European languages was a must, not unusual at all
I am hearing a distinct Swedish accent when she speaks German and Italian, and her French has Swedish R:s. She grew up in Stockholm with her Swedish father and her mother died when she was 3, so I dont know if she considered herself German aswell.
Wow! I saw a quote from Alfred Hitchcock saying that Ingrid Bergman was "so beautiful....so stupid". He must have been talking about someone else, because wow, that is impressive!
I've read that when she first came to Hollywood in 1939 she couldn't speak English at all, and had to memorize her lines just by sound. If that's true, she got to be comfortable in English very rapidly because in her early 1940s American films she speaks with complete ease and apparent fluency.
The german part is here too short but her German wasn't perfect and she admited that herself. I've seen some of her interviews in German and in fact she mixed neutral, feminine and masculine articles very frequently and all that despite her mother being German and having spent almost every year part of the summer in Germany.
It must be wonderful to be perfect like you. Speaks 5 languages and made films in these 5 languages but because her German is not to your standard you criticize. I would say, get a fucking life!!!!!!!!!
You may almost forget a language you once mastered in your youth but don't need anymore later. Pre WW2 German was the most important foreign language in Sweden and knowledge of German was widespread. Sweden and Germany had a long-standing cordial relationship. She regularly visited her German relatives and played in one German film in 1938. Later she played in Rosselini's Paura/Angst (1954) that was made in German but apart from that her only occasions for speaking German might have been some interviews with press or TV of German speaking countries.
To my knowledge her mother died when she was 2 and she spend summers in Germany until the age of 12 and not thereafter. So it might have been decades since she last spoke German.
i keep forgetting to recognize between ingrid birgman and grace kelly who is who. if you show me two pictures, then i can tell them apart. but show me just one of their pictures once in a while, i cant tell apart.
My most favourite actress of all time, there has been no one like her. I wish she and Cary Grant could have done few more romantic films, and at least one more with Bogey!
@@sandrajenkins6798I believe it was the way the film was being made he didn't like, in that the actors didn't necessarily get scripts ahead of time. Plus he was unhappily married and in constant fights with his then wife.

She was actually half-German (on her mother's side).

The old actresses were such great beauties. They aged beautifully !!
I love her and Audrey Hepburn polyglots
Ditto 😊
An unmatched talent
I say, rarely matched talent, extradenary screen presence, very few as magnetic.

Wickedly smart
Looks like I'm the only one who was born in the late 90s here.

I speak 2 languages. Three, if you count Valley Girl.

Una de las actrices más Guapas aparte inteligente.
Igual la num 1
Fun fact: She also speaks Klingon.
I heard once she also could speak a mean pig-Latin.
😂
Well her “accent” make her unique ❤
Eine intelligente und schöne Frau war Sie. Ruhe in Frieden.
Ingrid Bergman was so clever and brilliant. She spoke several languages.
Lei era meravigliosa
Well you probably can add two and more. As a Swede who spoke also German, she must be able to speak Norwegian, Dutch and Danish, easily.

Thats the hard part for any Swede learning German, and when you dont use German often, you lose it.

Ingrid Bergman was incredibly gorgeous, even old
