    I am so tired of people lifting up BMW and Benz for engines. I sell cars on the side and I can not tell you how many BMW's engines are shot at 100K now...especially 98-08 models. Then many of the Benzes ride so harsh and are jarring over bumps. Now they have improved their interiors recently because Benz was so crappy and no one spoke about it. Not to mention all of the issues you have from them period. Anyway both of these are really nice and two of the best buys in the class if you ask me. I have driven the new XT5 and it is a wonderful SUV.

    I have to correct a few things here as an MKX owner. The switchgear on the center stack is completely unique to the MKX and not shared with the Edge. The 22-way on-screen seat controls can be brought up directly without digging through the menus by pressing the center button on the side lumbar controls.

      I just compared the 2 vehicles in the 2018 model year and i just purchased the 2018 Lincoln MKX Reserve. I felt the XT5 was too boxy and when i drove the MKX i felt there was more technology for similar price.
      I have not taken possession yet, I pick it up on Monday evening, but i am looking forward to owning this vehicle.
      Ive owned 2 Edge's prior to this, 2013 Ford Edge SEL and a 2013 ford Edge Sport

    Several tests have already confirmed the MKX is the quietest vehicle in its class. Would help if he actually drove these two vehicles side by side. You can sense his bias rubbing off quite a bit. He says the 2.7 is "a bit loud" but the 3.6 has a "nice growl". Really???

    • @ImStormX1

      The sound of the 2.7 is bad ass that 3.6 is used in all there vehicles and does not sound good at all plus he says it should be quite when driving the mkx but it’s ok for the caddy to sound like a Chevy

    one thing he did not mention or did not know on the mkx, you can pick your suspension for each drive mode. you can chose comfort normal or sport for either drive or sprot steering. Not sure what he is talking about on the being noisy on the MKX. you can watch other comparisons and it beats out everything in its class, including the Mercedes on quietness there are microphones in the ceiling of the care and has adaptive noise control which uses the speakers to get rid on sounds you dont want to hear and let you hear the sounds you want to hear...like the enging on take off...awesome....... as far as the infotainment, they did away with the lincoln touch late 2016 and gave you sync 3 with apple and adroid connectivity. I love my MKx. looked at both and 7 other mid size, went with used MKX 2016

    On powertrain longevity, the Lincoln 3.7L V6 is the most-reliable here. It was originally designed by Mazda in Japan back in 2007. It's the same engine found in police and taxi vehicles, good for 500,000 miles. JD Power dependability also rates Lincoln near the top (thanks to 3.7L) while Cadillac rates dead-last. Finally, Lincoln 3.7L is fuel-injection while Cadillac 3.6L is direct-injection. Direct-injection builds up carbon and clogs intake valves. 3.7L will be discontinued after 2018 model year, and it will be missed.

    • @mojorisin7317
      @mojorisin7317 3 месяца назад

      The 3.7 is actually a Ford sourced V6 called the cyclone motor. In 2007 Mazda started making it themselves for the CX-9 but it was always sourced and created from Ford originally. The Ford 2.3 and 2.0 4 cylinder are sourced and created by Mazda originally so maybe that's what you mean, either way the Ford 3.7 is not a particularly good engine even in the Mazda making them ditch the motor and use their better 4 cylinder engines. I'd ask mechanics who do engine rebuilds and they are not fond of the Ford cyclone 3.7 or Mazda's version. The 3.7 V6 engines have poorly designed internal water pumps which have a tendency to fail and potentially ruin the engine when they do. The internal water pumps are driven by the timing chain. As a result, when they fail, antifreeze is dumped directly into the crankcase; mixing with engine oil and potentially damaging the head gaskets and connecting rod bearings. Many of these water pump failures occur without warning and repairs often cost thousands of dollars as the engine needs to be disassembled or removed from the vehicle to access the water pump. In some cases, the engine will need to be replaced outright. A class action lawsuit was started against Ford as a result of this issue, but it was dismissed and no recall was given.

    I am happy to hear your opinion on the XT5 as complementary because I bought one of these Premium Luxury models in April of this year. The best thing I like about this classy crossover is that it takes regular fuel. I am pleased with my purchase and already put on about 5k miles on it. I did an over 500 mile highway trip and got an average 28.5 mpg in touring mode.

  • @michaelcerza871
    @michaelcerza871 7 лет назад +9

    Sorry, but MKX comes off a bit better than "smells like a Ford, rides like a Ford, and sounds like a Ford." XT5 is very nice, and GM will be sharing platform with lesser GM vehicles, and when you claim mpg is not too good in LIncoln, and then XT5 with all of the technology to make mpg better comes in 1 mpg more than Lincoln, somehow you find that just fine. When you see the amount of hp the Lincoln has verses XT5, the difference is negligible. I would take a Black Label version MKX over XT5 even if it is a fancy Ford.
    Testing shows the Lincoln to be very quiet, and you somehow try to imply the vehicle is quite noisy, Sam. You seemed to not be impressed with Cadillac power in this video, but you failed to mention it is a bit slower and less responsive than the Lincoln in your presentation. However, you had no problems in stating the Lincoln shortcomings throughout the presentation.

    I own a MKX 2.7T Reserve. Review is pretty spot on in most areas but I will point out some problems with the drive train observations. First, all european, most american, and most japanese, particularly, luxury car makers are moving toward turbos. I never liked turbos because of fear of breaking down, but having driven this one after a V6 mustang, the turbo is way better in performance with a huge kick/boost a low speed/RPM that a V6 doesn't have. There is no way a 310hp 276lb-ft engine will feel anything even close to a twin-turbo 335hp 380lb-ft engine on acceleration or response. Even if the cadillac engine is more unique in the GM brand, it is more outdated. The turbo engines in the Lincoln and Ford are tuned differently as well; combined with the MKX soundproofing, its engine during driving certainly does *not* sound like a similarly equipped high end F150 or top of the line edge--much more smooth and quiet.

    The Ford 3.7 V6 engines unfortunately have poorly designed internal water pumps which have a tendency to fail and potentially ruin the engine when they do, they are driven by the timing chain so as a result, when they fail, antifreeze is dumped directly into the crankcase; mixing with engine oil and potentially damaging the head gaskets and connecting rod bearings. Just food for thought when choosing the Lincoln with that engine ✌🏽🇺🇲

    Ha ha.. a timid mention of the comparison to the BMW and Mercedes, also worth noting he called the noisy GM a growl while he knocked the Lincoln for a not so quiet engine?
    Lincoln is just making its way back with some very good offerings, he continues to link it to the Edge but steers clear of linking the Caddy to the Opel Mokka... I would not depend on this review if I were to be in the market for a car in this class it's obvious he has a thing, against the Ford brand- says he doesn;t but??

      The XT5 isn't related to the Opel Mokka..... the Opel Mokka is related to the Buick Encore... the Mokka is based on GMs Gamma II platform while the Cadillac XT5 rides on the C1XX platform which shares with the new upcoming GMC acadia which shrunk in its new generation.

    Yes sheldon..the 3.5 qtr./10spd are a ford design and used in trucks as everyone knows. Yet the Lincoln brand is the top teir brand/model for the Ford motor company. As such this "detuned" option should be made available in the top tier brand for ford.If it's used in other models, and it is, then why not their top brand?

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  7 лет назад

      The 2.7 is not a detuned 3.5, rather an entirely different engine. The 2.7tt is the engine family that Ford uses in the Edge and MKX platform.

    • @e.simons6964
      @e.simons6964 7 лет назад

      Thank you. I do know the 2.7 is not a scale down 3.5. I understand the correlation of the model/engine platform. All things being equal (or apparently not) I statement still remains valid. If ford wants the Lincoln brand/nameplate to be the top platform of it's global brand nameplate, it must put it's top engine/trans in that portfolio to compete with the likes of all others "top" tier auto manufactures.My response to "sheldon" was his assessment that the horsepower/Lbs.ft. of power was something that could not be changed for other models. My explanation for a "detuned" version only applied to taking the timing/H.P. and reducing it for use in a different model, perhaps a MKX? That's how it's done these days folks! Ya just pull out some of the "hotter" calibration, gain durability and anyone buying this rig will never be pinning for something with a little more power and fuel milage!

    As someone who is not a brand loyalist I find it amusing to read comments from people with obvious bias . Unless you have driven both vehicles you should not offer an opinion on which is better . I will say that I prefer the looks of the XT5 but that is mostly because I don't like the front end of the MKX . Personally I would go for either a GMC Acadia or a Ford Edge over both and save some money .

    • @scottreeve5716

      Just curious: isn't the Acadia a step up in size over the XT5? Isn't it more along the lines of an Explorer in size?

    • @backlash660
      @backlash660 7 лет назад +2

      The XT5 and Acadia both run the new regular wheelbase version of GM's CX11 platform . The new Acadia is smaller than the previous model . The 2018 Traverse and Enclave will both run a long wheelbase version and are still going to be full sized .

  • @DwightD

    Definitely the Lincoln MKX. Since the 2017 just came out, I'm heading in to place an order for a Reserve from factory. Can't wait! The XT5 was nice too, but there were just too many things that the Lincoln did better. And the Cue system looks awful, especially when compared to the SYNC 3 system. The Cadillac just didn't measure up to my expectations for a luxury vehicle, it feels more like a Honda and I can't justify paying that much for such a poorly crafted interior in the Cadillac.

  • @adamwright9741
    @adamwright9741 6 лет назад

    I must say that maybe because you're so familiar with the Edge is why you may have had a lower rating of the MKX. I myself am a hater of Fords interiors on both the F-150 box on box on tilted box and their other Ford Interiors for other reasons too. So when Lincoln gives the best Ford has and changes some of the ugliness I still tend to look at this vehicle more if other attributes still match the Cadillac. So for me it looks so far like Lincoln has my heart for the Navigator since ugly Ford interior blocks all of its Awards I see it has, but who knows maybe GM/Cadillac has the midsize crossover segment

    The XT5 is just a updated SRX let’s be honest while I might drive better and lost some weight it’s still a SRX. The XT5 basically looks cheap in my opinion on the outside however the Lincoln is banging and offers way more and Ford is now totally different from Lincoln and Vice versa for Lincoln. Say what you will or may about Lincoln hater but people are trading their Cadillac Escalade for the new Lincoln Navigator so that says a lot Cadillac need to grow up and change they line up again

    This guy is so off the reservation. Out of all the comparisons on the net and print he is the only one that says the cadillac feels like a luxury vehicle over the lincoln. The MKX actually gets very high remarks for feeling like it looks, like a luxury vehicle. As for the cadillac it stills feels like a average vehicle. It is so far from feeling a high end luxury vehicle.

This all falls on your personal taste. When you repeat something you've heard 20 years ago, you become a "preacher" and not a reviewer.
