I have purchased both the SRX & MKX since 2005. I must admit, the 2016 MKX is the very best vehicle I've owned since I began purchasing vehicles in 1976. Powerful, smooth and quiet.

I just finished watching a few car reviews and I'm struck by how much better Alex does it than everybody else. Honestly, if I could only subscribe to one channel that reviews cars it would be this one. I'm in the market for a luxury SUV and of all the ones I've researched it never occurred to me to even look at an MKX. Alex changed that with just one review.

"Floaty Boaty" is what I want in an electronic adjustable suspension for the ride to Florida. Especially impressive when you say it handles so well in its sport mode! Quietest vehicle, and torquey power, most comfortable seats, more room, panoramic moonroof, makes it the best in my book. I'm gonna apply for a salesman's position!

I was going to get an AWD upper model 2017 or 2018 (sync 3 is a must) but I just purchased a 2017 premier MKX with 8500 miles on it for 28K+ttl. It was fresh off a business exec lease and is like new all around. It has the 2.7TT and is only fwd but isn't as dramatic at full throttle as some of the internet reviewers made it sound. These things are pretty sweet rides. I bet the interior looks better 10 years from now than most of the competition also. Our family's 2000 Town car still looks nearly new inside while the Cadillacs have fallen apart inside.

I'm glad Lincoln chose to focus on comfort rather than "sportiness", whatever that means in a midsize luxury crossover. A luxury vehicle needs good adjustable dampers that control suspension movements over broken pavement. The Lexus RX has an unsophisticated ride quality for a vehicle that can cost $60k. Of course the people buying these things probably won't give the MKX a chance. Too bad, seems like a better vehicle than the Acura or the Lexus.

I know that this video was made three years ago but I still want to add my little two cent to the great review. The video review called The Lincoln ride A little floaty that he didn’t like. This is Lincoln‘s version of comfortable luxury ride this is not a sports car I like that
If you want a sports car or a little more stronger rough handling then you may have to go somewhere else

I have the all the "extras" except all wheel drive and it is such a pleasure to drive. The only negative is after my 4 year warranty expired, I lost the concierge service, where they come to my door and drop off a loaner while in service.

We have been living with an 2016 MKX for 2 years now and although I agree with you on most of its features and attributes there are a few things which really bother me and am curious how you feel about them or whether they came to light during a relatively short time doing a test.
1- The 8" screen is on an angle that it is badly affected by light coming through the windshield. If I want to see anything on bright sunny days I end up holding my hand above the screen to block out the glare. This makes the screen close to useless.
2- When going to reverse the backup camera is a split screen, camera on left and overhead projection on the right. If I want a full backup screen I have to push the mode button. If you are in a tight position and have to jockey back and forth several times this extra operation every time you go into reverse is really irritating. I seldom want or need a split screen. Ford feels this is not a problem.
3- The backup lights are less than stellar at night. The brake lamps are so bright in comparison to the backup lamps all you see is a big red glare on the screen.
I just want to point out to prospective buyers that although the MKX is a pretty darn good car these items are close to a deal breaker for me. I plan to look long and hard at the Caddy XT5 when my lease is up. I really like your detailed road tests. Keep up the great work.

Really great review, and totally agree, I just bought a used 2016 MKX. sticker was 65k, got it OTD for 38k with 24k miles on it. I did loose the stop and go adaptive cruise i think they are now putting in the new ones but everything else seems to be the exact same on the 2018 models. I do hear they are going with a new 10 speed transmission on the 19. My advice is someone is still looking for one, get a later in the year 2016 that has the sync three and it will give you everything the 18 give you besides the stop and go adaptive. I have to say that you need the AWD and the adaptive steering. I have never driven a car, truck, etc and loved the complete transmission and steering as I do on the MKX with above features. And yes, the lexus lost me with the front grill and the no touch screen, what are these car makers thinking with the no touch screen. Oh well, it allowed me to eliminate them quickly!

Im currently driving a '17 for a loaner while they repair a clip in my sunroof of my MKT. This thing is freakin awesome! Hate to admit it! It's smaller than I usually like but it's GORGEOUS! I had a "select" model some time ago for a loaner and HATED IT! This is a way-out optioned "Reserve" in all black. I'm IN LOVE!@! The adaptive cruise and self park mean absolutely NOTHING to me. I'd N-E-V-E-R use either one, but this one has both. It also has those 22 way seats!!!!!!!!!! (A MUST IMO!) 38K OTD with 24K mi?? Hmm. Wondering about this fully loaded '17 with 1,ooo mi??? Thx for your feedback! I was holding out for the Aviator or at LESAST the updated "Nautilus" version. Waddya think???

    • @johnk12345100
      @johnk12345100 6 лет назад

@@jamesgreg5542 what is the price with the one that's got only a thousand miles on it? I was looking at waiting for the Nautilus too, then doing research I found out the only real difference is the adaptive cruise control with the stop-and-go, and that's about it, they do have that new THX sound that goes along with the Revel stereo, but I actually like the old setup better that I have in my 16! If I were you I would look for something fully loaded 2016 and make sure it has a sync 3 system. You're going to get everything, at least I think everything the Nautilus is going to give you, except for the stop-and-go adaptive cruise control. Some must-haves are the 2.7 L turbo, all-wheel drive, the full Revel upgrade stereo, and the 22 position seats. Why Pay $65,000 for a new Nautilus when you get everything on the 16, you might as well try to look for a certified although you will pay 2 to $3,000 more for it. Let me know any questions.

I have been studying new suvs for months now.. I keep going to the toyotas and the mkx.. obviously the mkx has more leg room in the back than the mkc.. only down side is they don't seem to hold value well as a toyota.. BUT I keep coming back to the style and visual that I LOVE.. I don't need a boat and I think this would be perfect for me.. with the corsair coming out I think these will be even more affordable! 💕

I am in the exact same boat (no pun intended). My wife is tied into Ford/Lincoln and would like a replacement for her MKC, sold the MKC as the rear seats were too cramped. Rather than a Ford Escape/Edge/Explorer may go with a MKX. Thanks to the new Nautilus and Corsair the prices are indeed lower on the MKX.

Alex, great vid. I've watched about 20 reviews on different luxury CUV/SUV vehicles, you just nail it. Your review here capped it for me, we've purchased a '16 MKX, Black Velvet, 21's, Terracotta interior. They are rolling it our way from Las Vegas as I type this. I drove Lexus RX 350 Sport and Luxury, both Jag F-Pace engines, Q5, Volvo XC 60, X-5's too. Honestly, they are all superb. For me, it boils down to max comfort, and the MKX is by far the leader there. Then the 2.7 Turbo, that engine pulls super good, it felt as fast as the Jag. At 50 years old, I don't want to feel connected to the road, I want to feel refreshed after 350 miles, but if I want some giddyup at the traffic light, I'll have it. Now if Jag can load up the F-pace and keep it in the mid 60's.....or Lexus get another 40 hp under the lid, this could change my next purchase......but I have a hunch that Ford comes forwards with a 400 HP model..........now that would be something to ponder.

  • @jimmacmurdo355

Not sure how you do, but yet again another superb assessment. Had the chance to test-drive both a new RX and MKX in the last month. I agree with your descriptions of both vehicles to a tee; except that I'd probably be a little more outspoken about the "joystick" infotainment controller on the RX -- really disliked that. The fuel economy seems to boil down to gearing -- the RX turns a exceptionally low ~1100 rpm at 60 mph, due to it's 2.28:1 final drive combined with .67 8th gear. The MKX turns a bit over 1800 rpm at the same speed, again due to it's 3.51 final drive and .746 6th gear. The difference in engine speed of about 40% in top gear gave me a 18.7 mpg result on the MKX over about 25 miles, and 23.1 mpg with the RX over about the same distance.

We purchased the 2016 MKX(Black Label) in Chrome Quartz 2 months ago after test driving MDX, Mercedes, Lexus RX, Infinite and I kept coming back to the MKX after much deliberation. It drives like a dream... is the quietest and most enjoyable ride of them all, this coming from a Lexus owner 4x over. The new RX style just did not grow on me regrettably.
Our MKX came with the new Sync3 which I find very easy to use and very receptive. We are especially enjoying the Revel 19 speaker surround sound system...it rivals the Mark Levinson sound system. If you want a quiet ride with NO road noise and a soft ride the MKX is the one. My husband is 6'7" and he found this the most comfortable of all the 2 seater SUV's. All in all we are very pleased with the MKX...the "Black Label" is a step above in its accouterments. Another thing...I do not want to hear the motor(which all the other SUV's had and I find not a benefit. I want quiet and want to hear this wonderful stereo system and the ability to talk with the other passengers.

I just bought a new 2016 MKX Reserve model. I love it! My final choice was between the XT5 and the the MKX. I would have been happy with either. I went with the MKX because the price was better for a more fully featured vehicle. Lincoln offered me a competitive incentive because I already own a Cadillac (2006 DTS) and 0% financing. Cadillac did not offer a loyalty discount on the XT5 (they did on the SRX) and the their financing was 1.9% for the same term (60 months). The MKX also came with 20" wheels whereas the XT5 had 18" wheels. I am very happy with my decision. The only thing I am not happy with is that the FM reception is a little staticy and is not HD. You need the upgraded Revel stereo to get HD Radio. Mine has the permium sound system, but not the top of the line Revel.
    Thanks for the great review!

The best review I've seen....except for all the "floaty-boaty" comments :). Really though, you provided much more detail on this car than any other reviewer I've seen or article I've read. You've also tipped me over the fence to buy this SUV. I don't need 3 rows, but don't want a tiny two row SUV. I want the best mix available of safety, luxury, performance, reliability, handling, and cost. I haven't bought a Ford product in years, but this one looks and seems great. I just hope it is reliable.
I don't understand their constant mis-aligned "Passenger Airbag Off" text and light right in the middle of the dashboard. No luxury manufacturer would allow that to happen.
Hope to see a review of the 2017 Audi Q5, which I suspect will be too small for me. Same for the Mercedes GLC. I like the Acura MDX, but it's a bit big and frumpy. X5 is overpriced, too heavy, unreliable, and has poor interior space, especially for rear passenger ingress/egress, but it handles great.
Anyway, thanks for such thorough reviews.

I think that the 2.3 EB would make a better base engine because this 2.7 actually gets better mpg than the base 3.7 and the power figures are pretty close for the 2.3 and 3.7 with the 3.7 with more HP but the 2.3 with more torque.

Can't wait to see your review on the Jaguar F-Pace.
The 340hp version of the F-Pace is only about $3,000 more than similarly equipped MKX, but claims to be noticeably faster. I'm really curios as to which one of these two SUVs would Alex buy.

Great review as always. Glad to see Lincoln is really making great vehicles. Makes me even more excited to see how the new Continental is. Heard the seats are even better than this which means they should be amazing. I disagree on the MPG comment though. The BMW X5 with the v8 is rated at 15 city/21 highway which is quite a bit lower than the EPA rating for this vehicle. Maybe you meant to compare it to the i6 turbo engine?

First of all lex, thanks for this review. I was hoping you would get to it.
I have seen this car often and wondered why, although based upon the same as the Edge, it actually looks smaller or better fit.
I love the look and think Lincoln has everybody beat with its comfort, size and silence.
However...I am really, really disappointed in the MPG of this 2.7. I guess the trade off is the less frequent shifting, which the Fords get away with because of their ecoboost power.
But that lack of gears seems to keep their turbos at a much lower MPG than they should be getting.
I don't like the internet easy community "whale" grill remark. I have my wonderful looking 2010 MKS...and I bet there is equal or less sq in space than this design. That is all personal choice...and nobody has a more ridiculous looks than the Audi or Lexis alien look. For long term quality, those will wear o me.
I would love to hear you opinion of the FWD 2.7 or the V6 in this car. I would certainly consider a 6 if power enough.

      paul pellico
I mean Tesla cannot be compared with a ny other brand, its a new era in automotive history, electric luxury cars, not even Mercedes has such a car
Then check Mercedes Audi etc their A8,S8,S Class, Aston Martin Rapides, all give terrible mpg, but do buyers care, absolutely not
See there is a huge pie of luxury buyers who want them to be pampered most in the front and back seats, and the MKX does that way better than most Lexuses,Audis,BMWs,Cadillacs etc in class, thats the kind of buyer Lincoln aims and just check the sales, its a growing segment,
The new Ford Edge and new MKX are actually the best cross overs in its segments,
See everything aint perfect, the full time AWD demands more fuel, the reward in excellent control and GRIP,
Even Motor Trend nearly came close to claiming MKX best luxury SUV of 2015, it just fell a tad bit short, say just 2 points short of Volvo XC90, I mean Motor Trend has been very hard cuz that segment was flooded with products and despite all that MKX made it to the runner up spot, which says a lot about Fords effort with Lincoln, its paying off
I saw the new Continental and new MKZ at auto show and mark my words, Lincoln is gonna challenge Cadillac within 2 years time, their growth is that fast and unbelievable considering that they were reborn just 5 years before

  • @ponygt6629
    @ponygt6629 8 лет назад

This is a testament to how good the brand is growing
Ford resurrected Lincoln by 2012 and its just been 5 years and already the MKX has become a Lexus beater, I still wont go ahead like Alex and say its better than Cadillac XT5, but Lincoln MKX sure is better than Acura,Infiniti,Buick,Lexus,GMC, but still not better than BMW,Audi,MErc,Jag, and possibly Cadillac
That said MKX is the only Lincoln that is this good MKC,MKZ, still lacks that final touch
I think by 2018 Lincoln will be on par with Cadillac and will start kicking German butts
Anyway superb job Lincoln, No wonder Ford Edge and MKX and selling so damn well,
Fords CD4 platform which spawns Mondeo/Fusion,Edge,MKX is undoubtedly worlds best FWD D segment chassis (maybe Mazda 6 is slightly better)

Probably but the Mazda handles slightly better because of better steerimg and lighter body
But as usual, this is a family Car/suv class, so Mazda didnt have the quiet plush comfy feeling a modern sedan should have had, so again Ford gets my vote
