When I finally told my husband I was thinking of wearing wigs (because I HAD TO wear them), he started singing to me: "They say time takes its toll on a body. Makes the young grils brown hair turn gray. But honey, I don't care. I aint't in love with your hair. And, if it all fell out, well, I'd love you any way...." I love my husband so! Lyrics by country singer - Randy Travis :-) Thank you for being so honest Denise. God bless you!

I, like you, had gradual hair loss. I first noticed mine in high school. I didn't start wearing wigs until I was 44. Fortunately for me, my husband never had an issue with my hair loss. We started dating the summer after high school graduation. We hadn't dated long when he suggested if I didn't like my hair loss to wear wigs. His mom wore them many times and she had enough bio hair for both of us! If someone truly loves you, they'll support you. It's wonderful to know others face what you face and we are a sisterhood. My husband went home to Jesus in 2017, but I had 40 glorious years with him.

Thanks, Kimberly. We went through a lot. My oldest remembers but my two youngest, not so much. I would just HATE to share stuff that might hurt them or the memory of their dad (or even his parents who are still alive and in their 80s). No matter how bad things were, he was still their dad. I have shared my story 1:1 when it was appropriate and to help someone experiencing something similar, but a public forum is a very different story.

I started loosing my hair gradually when I was 19 and I would always do things to help hide that fact. When i was 22 my current boyfriend noticed it one day when we were watching t.v. and he said "hey babe it looks like your losing your hair" and I said "your nuts"! He then says " if you lose your hair I'm leaving you"! 😟 He said it in a joking manner but what I beleive he was serious and I just laughed it off! Well, we ended up breaking up because we just didn't get along but now I am married for over 22 years and my husband knows and even helps to pick out wigs for me its no big deal for him, lol!
P.s. My ex is now totally bald, lol!

Funny! I had the exact same experience with my first boyfriend. We had been dating for a few years when he said something about my hair loss. We ended up breaking up over something completely unrelated. I met a friend we have in common not long ago. She told me I look at least ten years younger (I'm in my late 40s). She also told me that prince charming is now a bald guy 😂

I had already been losing my hair for 15 years when I met my husband. It was thin but I covered it well. He had no idea. We had started to live together and I have been suffering from multiple autoimmune and neurological diseases and getting sicker every passing year and losing more hair. He has been so super supportive and patient taking on the role as my husband and my caretaker. My appearance had been changing not just hair wise but my face and body all from being so ill. I found wigs online and was inspired so I ordered some wigs and when they arrived I just announced that I was sick of looking sick and my hair falling out and I will be wearing wigs and everyone needs to get used to it. Up to that point we had only spoken about some hair loss occasionally as I was seeing a dermatologist who tried to treat it. After my sudden announcement he just said "ok" and we moved on with our life as if nothing changed. He told me even if I shaved my head he would be attracted to me. He loves my long wigs but told me I look more confident in them and that if I was happy then he was happy. My husband never tries to dictate anything I want to do as wrong so it was an easy transition. He knows it's an accessory, just like my makeup, jewelry etc. He gets excited for me when I get new wig mail. Fully supportive with not any fuss. It would have been easy for me to imagine how hard it would have been coming out to him and all the worry. I just ripped off the bandaid quickly so we could get on with it and I haven't turned back. If you seach RUclips there are many videos of men talking about how they feel about wig wearing and hair loss in a woman they would potentially date. Most of the men are super sweet and supportive and really it doesn't bother them. Good men want to be supportive of their partner, especially when they have a good connection. Hope that helps ❤

This was a beautiful, direct from your sweet, compassionate heart, video.
My heart aches for you and everyone else that is or has experienced hair loss and has felt like it makes you unworthy, inadequate or somehow unlovable. It's just wrong and untrue.
People can be so cruel and unkind, it's shameful how people are judged by their appearance more often than by their actions.
I agree with Denise. It's better to know the true heart of a person before making a relationship commitment to them. Imo, if your hair loss is an issue for someone consider yourself lucky to move on from that person so you can find the one that truly accepts & loves you for who you are. I believe their issue with your hair loss just shows their insecurities w/ in themselves, it's not really about you.
Heartfelt prayers for each & every one of you that are struggling with this issue right now.
Thanks, Denise, for once again supporting your sisters & sharing your heart. 🤗❤

Denise thank you so much for this!!! Something tragic happened almost 2 yrs ago and about 3 weeks later I realized my hair was falling out from the sudden impact of the stress. Firstly I'm so thankful that I found you when I finally understood what was happening. Secondly I was scared to death about all of it. Lastly I will say you are incredibly correct, real men of worth do not care about our hair. WE care about our hair... and of course we want to look and feel beautiful, but a good man really does not want to be with us because of our hairstyle. A good man of worth wants to be with you, just you:-) Bless all of you ladies here! I love you so much Denise. You are an amazing lady!

I’m going through hair loss for a second time. After chemo my hair grew back much, much different from my normal hair. Now, for some reason I’m losing my hair in a Mohawk like pattern, absolutely not something that I can hide. I’ve just started wearing wigs, they are less obvious than the scarf head coverings I wore before. It’s been difficult to adjust but I love the help you and other “sisters” reach out to help us

You’re fortunate to meet such an understanding man. Thank you for sharing your personal story. I’m now very comfortable with my hairloss and change up my styles daily. The last man I was with, was awkward and uncomfortable with my wig wearing. I became paranoid about it with him and became too much invested in the relationship with him and became a people pleaser towards him. I think I become that way because I desperately wanted to feel valued by him. He knew he was in control of my emotions. It’s my fault for allowing myself to basically become a doormat to him. He told me I wouldn’t find a better man than him and no man would want to be with a woman like me. Since then, I’ve been on my own for a while now and I would like to date again, it’s now a matter of finding a way to meet decent, genuine, kind men that are not judgemental? There’s hope as you found a wonderful partner which is wonderful.

Denise, your story is so touching and lovely. Really happy you found a mate who loves you for you! Thank you for sharing with each of us.
I finally just gave up many years ago. Time has swiftly passed and I'm still alone. I was in many abusive and damaging relationships that I lost hope. Seemed I lost every ounce of the slight amount of confidence I may have ever owned, and hair loss didn't help. Throughout my adulthood, I've been alone longer than I've been in all my relationships combined. Now that my health has been declining so quickly, I'm in my senior years, and there's a pandemic, I just feel I must have been meant to be alone...and it still hurts. But I have accepted it as I continue to trust and understand that God knows the plans He has for me. He never fails but unfortunately, we as humans do.
So grateful for your videos. You're such a beautiful soul! Much love to you and your family. 🙏 ❤️ 😘 💕

Denise, I am an older woman (82) who always had a really healthy head of hair until about 8 years ago when like you, I started losing a really lot of hair. Illness has been ruled out and Dr says nothing he can do, just accept it as alopecia. I have gone the hair pieces from the store and Topic but now I am binging on your videos and getting ready to go with wigs. At my age they will need to be thinned so I don’t look ridiculous in piles of wig hair (lol). Thank you for sharing your story and educating us. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I have several family members losing hair and every time we have a get together I see more loss in all of us. I am sharing your videos hoping the family members will overcome the aversion to wearing a wig. You look so beautiful in every wig you put on and I’m convinced it is so important how we think of ourselves. I would love to attend a family event and see at least 5 wig wearers ( including me) sharing our wig experience. I have admired black women’s attitude and bravery to wear many styles of wigs and they do it well. I want that for my segment of society as well. Thank you.

No one in my close friend group or family wear wigs, but I am grateful for THIS community! It helps me, too! And I've been blessed to meet a number of local wig sisters in person, which also helps so much. HUGS!

Beautiful perspective. To take my hair loss and think of it as a blessing. My hair loss sounds similar to yours. Mine has been very gradual, starting in my mid-30s and I had thin baby fine hair to begin with. I’m now 45 and have been managing with extensions and fibers this whole time, but it’s reaching the point I will soon have to transition to full wigs. I’m terrified. As a divorced woman hoping to find love again, finding someone who won’t judge me for my looks feels like an uphill battle. And I struggled with self esteem long before losing my hair. Sometimes I struggle to feel is life even worth living.

We have almost identical stories. Of course, I married two weeks after I turned 19 and my hair loss didn't really start until after my second son was born at 22 years old. Still married to the same great man almost 46 years later, as you know, and we've been through many stages. He's always been proud of me, even when I gained a lot of weight when my thyroid malfunctioned, which took me literally years and years to lose again. Now, he says wigs have made me a happier person, but he's always thought I was beautiful. And Chad is a keeper, too. Love you! ~Cynthia

Frankly, there are some stupid, ignorant men out there. If when first chatting, you mention you wear wigs...a great sensitive guy will ask why. A stupid jerk will laugh and slope off. Totally relate. My hair loss started when l was very little and being sexually abused. I was pulling my hair out and that continued until well into my 50s. Now 67 and through years and years of therapy l realise this was self harm due to the abuse. All the shame, fear and constant worry the child experienced about the abuse was transferred to my baldness and efforts to hide it. Sounds simple but it took most of my life to be able to face the demons and realise what was happening. These things can't be rushed or forced through until your own psyche or inner healer knows it is safe to do. Recently a group came to the Cancer Center in our isolated rural town with a selection of wigs etc to help patients. The time was right for me and l made an appointment. I also told my sister whom l am very close to and the man whom l have been seeing for 3 years. Huge leap as l have never spoken of my hair loss to anyone, not even my husband who passed away after 30 years of marriage. The world didn't end ! Sister was just interested in how toppers etc., worked and excited to see the result. Man just said "oh OK" as if l had said l let the cat out. So much fear - and not a ripple. I Love my toppers and couldn't believe how Normal l felt walking out of the fitting. I don't know whether he knows when l am wearing it or not, but it's obviously not on the same level of importance as farming or the footy. The strangest part of all this is that l now couldn't be cared less if someone knows its a wig or topper. What a load to finally put down after all these years. Thankyou for your post Denise. The fear and embarrasment is all consuming.

Hi Denise. Thank you for being so open. I am single and do date occasionally, and while I don't always tell a man on the first date that I am a wig wearer, I will make a point of telling them before or during the second date if the topic hasn't come up organically by then. For me, it really depends on the person and the conversations we have. Some men know before we go out for the first time, because I was able to segue into the topic during our telephone or text conversations. Many times the subject of cancer or other illnesses gets raised and it is an easy jump from that into the wig wearing topic for me. I know how scary it can seem to a wig sister to broach the subject, but I totally agree with you that it is better to know very early on how the other person will react to this information before you get invested in that person and a relationship develops. You are a blessing to all of us.
    Sending you many virtual hugs,
    Shelly

So true about good relationships if someone lives you they will love you with or without hair! i lost my hair and had to shave my head. My husband is such a good man he could careless! My hair has grown back much different and its very curly, he still says “you don’t need a wig you look great”. Well i love that but I feel so much more confident with a wig on these days. I recently started dating sites after being single for a decade. At first, I got so many messages and went on so many dates it was overwhelming. Then I decided one day I would be transparent and put on my profile that I suffer from hair loss and wear wigs full time. I am not exaggerating, I have not had one single message since. I have come to the realization that I will live out the rest of my life single. I had to come to terms with that fact.

I’m late to the wig wearing scene, but a veteran to thinning hair. It started in my early thirties. (RUclips was just starting and there werent as many resources.) Always felt self conscious but went about my business being me. I have met some very nice and cute men. (It was the women that were mean.) Wasn’t looking or trying. The problem was me not feeling good enough. Just bought a wig and have been wearing it at home. Planning to debut the wig in Jan.2024. I’m in my sixties and it’s time I accepted all of me. There’s a guy at work who likes me and he knows what I look like with thinning hair. Don’t worry, just be you and he will find you.

I loved this video Denise, your heart and compassion really shines through and you had me tearing up at times when I could see that you were, especially talking about your mom. We lost my dad in a tragic accident 12 years ago, and like you said, even now, there are times when a song will come on the radio and I have to pull over and cry! 😥😥😥Your words of advice to wig sisters out there in the dating world is spot on and I would have to agree that if they can't handle this, then they'll never be able to handle something bigger! Such true words right there! Thank you for sharing this little part of you! Sending hugs and prayers to you and everyone who is struggling right now! 💗💗💗

I met someone when I was a few months into wearing wigs. On our first date he jammed his hands into my hair and my wig slipped and he felt it slip. He told me it was all just "too weird" for him and we sat there awkwardly until the end of the date. I get that he wasn't a very nice or polite person and that's fine but I'm still not over that experience. I haven't been on a date since. That was in early 2020 before the pandemic.

Timely subject matter, thx Denise. I've wondered about how the subject could be brought up. The Bible speaks of a woman's hair being her glory and also speaks of the shame of a woman with a shaved head. So I can see where the shame comes from. But losing one's hair is not a reason for shame (easier said than done). Even men go through the shame when they start losing their hair. My take is that humans feel shame because God created man & women perfect. After the fall we started to age, get wrinkled, lose our hair and our spirits instinctively know that's not how we were supposed to be. So we fight the aging process in various ways. I thank God that we will have new bodies in the kingdom that don't age, aren't subject to pain and we'll have the great hair we were meant to have.

I suggest that same style of hair cut you have ..color and no permatease or little permatease..it feels less poofy..then when you get accustom to wigs wearing go to different styles or colors..Denise Has many toutube videos about the correct wig for your face shape..

Hi!! I think something just below chin length or longer can be a great length for a full round face... I think my face is like that. Curly wigs that have curls and fullness on top are better than ones where all the curl and fullness are on the sides only because they just make an already round face look wider.

I have invested in some very good wigs, that I wear full time now, and a year into out relationship, he still has no idea this isn’t my hair. He wasn’t a part of my life during this time, so he will be the first person I have to tell this story to who hasn’t watched me go through it. Bottom line though, if he cares enough for you, he will accept you for who you are. If he doesn't, better to not waste time with that kind of person. Hopefully you, as a couple, have already established an open dialogue about anything, from the begining. Make the debut a fun event, maybe do a hair/wig runway walk with different styles, colors and clothing, even add music. He'll realize it's you he wants, not what's on top of your head!!!

Hi Denise I love your videos and I love that you’re a Christian . I am coming up on my 75 birthday and I have stuffed with my weight all my life with too many health issues to mention. I have tried just about every diet plan out there l even surgery. That helped for awhile but eventually got right back to where I started. I have been trying keto for awhile and have had some success but I can’t seem to be able to-hold the weight down. I fell like such a failure . • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  6 месяцев назад

Hi! First of all, hugs for all you have been through. I understand being discouraged, and will pray for you on this journey. I don't have any experience with Keto Gummies, although Dr. Boz (the woman who wrote the books that helped me with Keto) does recommend Keto drinks to help in the beginning. Honest, here is how I feel about "keto" supplements. I think people should try to do Keto without the help of special products in the beginning. I think they should track their macros, and make sure they are truly keeping the carbs low and the protein and fat high. Consistently. Then, after doing all that for at least 2 weeks, if they need a little help then I think it is OK to see if those things will help. When I started Keto I didn't use anything, and I didn't eat any special Keto treats or snacks. I ate meat, eggs, and full fat dairy. I put heavy cream in my coffee and a little stevia liquid. I didn't shy away from butter, sour cream, cheese, cottage cheese, etc. I completely avoided sugar (all types), alcohol, all grains, and even fruit and veggies. I did this for 3 months without cheating. A few times we went out to eat and I would order burger patties with cheese, mayo, and in those cases I would allow myself onion, tomato, and lettuce. I had never ever been that strict with my diet and it worked miracles, but I know that for some that may not be enough. I didn't track my macros because it was working for me, but if it wouldn't have worked then I would have tracked them and maybe even tried some Keto drinks or gummies... so I say, if you have done all that and it still isn't helping, then it couldn't hurt to try the gummies. Dr. Boz's book Keto Continuum is wonderful, and she also has a workbook. If you haven't gotten these I recommend you do and follow her Keto Continuum to a T and see how it goes. Sending Hugs!

Hi Denise. I'm going to recommend this to my dear friend, who lost 50% of her hair when she hit 40. She's divorced now and VERY worried about dating. Her experience so far has not been good. All the men she's had dates with end up rejecting her because she has to wear wigs now. She thinks she'll be alone for the rest of her life. 😢 EDIT-- She also has a big head and doesn't fit into 90% of wigs. As if it wasn't bad enough....she has to wear wigs that give her headaches because they're so tight.
Do you think she should tell men about it on the first date or wait awhile until she knows them better?

Ugh, that is terrible. On the one hand it is a really good thing she found this out about this early on, but on the other, how discouraging! She will find a good man who will stand by her through this AND other things, hopefully she can keep the faith in the meantime. Adding her to my prayer list.

Hi Mave. I have a large head, too. Please tell your friend that she might like to look for "large cap" wigs. Estetica brand wig caps are usually quite roomy. A less expensive brand to look into is Paula Young. Many of their wigs come in "large cap", which I need to cinch in a bit, so they are exceptionally roomy. I own many "large cap" Paula Young wigs and they are very comfortable. Please tell her not to give up. She WILL find a wig that fits her well and makes her feel beautiful. She is not alone. Hugs to her and to you.
      Shelly

@@shelly410 What a sweet and helpful comment! Thank you so much. I'm going to show her your post so she can see the wig brands that you recommended. I know she'll be very thankful. Wishing you the very best and many thanks, again. 💜❤
