Firstly, again thank you for all you do. Yes, I wish I had had this info when I started but it's always good to learn. Also, I appreciate you asking others to share in their comments. You look stunning, AS USUAL! Probably one of the biggest things I can say, in relating to this topic, is "standard is not standard", lol. Unfortunately, for me, I have found that even though I measure as petite some petite's are too small. Some averages fit great, and some are huge. The one thing to remember is that we are all unique and measurements are a guideline. Don't become discouraged. Find a style you love and learn to alter your own wigs. Purchase a cheap Amazon wig and practice on sewing wefts together. It has made a huge difference in my ability to wear different varieties. Warning though....once you learn this skill, and are comfortable, you may find that you begin buying everything knowing you can make it work, LOL.

To keep my wig from riding up the back of my neck, I cut a piece of TopStick wig tape once length-wise and adhere both strips only to the nape area of my wig grip,. Then I stick that to the back of my neck skin. Then after positioning the wig grip all over, I put on my wig. It really helps to secure my wig in place all day. I so appreciate your videos and sharing wig-related information Denise!! 💝

You made me laugh. This week I bought several jeans, all the same brand. They were so different in fit. I said to my husband,” this is like buying a wig”. You are offering great information and encouragement. A big part of wig wearing is learning how to style a wig.

I just absolutely love you young lady! I've learned so much from watching your videos.
I was just thinking the other day that I wish all of the wig reviewers would give more of their measurements Like you do. One measurement that would help me for sure is their measurement from the top of the head over the side, over the ear and to the base of the neck. Wigs are always shorter on me than what they look on most of the reviewers that I watch. For example my number for that particular measurement is 14"
Anyways, there's other good reviewers that I've watched... But you are my most favorite🤗

You have helped me more than you will ever know….from choosing wigs, styling, giving me the courage to keep going when I just wanted to give up and to just being there when I made the huge decision to buzz my hair off. Just by sharing your knowledge about measuring, styling, how to put a wig on, keep a wig on, etc. etc. etc. I just owe you so much. Great series ….thank you so very much❤️
    by the way…love your shirt❤️

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 года назад +2

Thank you! I debated about whether or not to spend time on it, but then I realized that if I found it frustrating and confusing then others would as well. Plus, everyone wants to give advice on how to do things, but there is so much inconsistency that I felt we need to make sure new wig wearers are aware so they can take EVERYTHING they hear with a grain of salt. It is too bad that it has to be that way, but it is and so we have to find methods to deal with it.

I am a new wig wearer - I started with toppers and found the wigs really felt, as you say, were riding up and up. My solution was to sew in a pressure sensitive clip at the nape.
That makes all the difference to me. I also put one behind the hairline so the wig doesn't slip back. Maybe some day I will feel ok going without the clips, but for now it seems to work. Wig grips seem to give me headaches plus I live in a very hot climate most of the year
Thanks for all your advice, Denise - very generous of you to take the time to help strangers. x

Denise. I have tiny over the top measurements as well 12.5 but I’m a 22.25 circumference. So what I have done is actually added some 1/2 dark elastic on each side of the nape. This involved cutting the wig band and adding in elastic. Obviously these were wefted wigs. So, if you ever find one that fits you well over the top of the head you can always increase that band size. It’s like magic! :)

Great information Denise. You look beautiful in this wig and color. I needed this measure information for sure. I would love a wig day with other's that sounds like so much fun along with helpful. I did not know in the beginning that head shape was so important to how a wig will fit your head this was so very helpful. I have a long neck and thin face so it looks much shorter on me if it's a medium length wig. I figured out after a lot of wig purchases (wasted money) and watching wig reviews I learned this. I do fill Rachel Welch Editor's pick wig so far fit me best. Going to watch the rest of this sorry my message is long. Thank you for all you do. Have a blessed week!❤

Regarding the forehead and where your hairline begins (if you cannot see it because you lost your hair) a better method to determine where the scalp begins is to raise your forehead/brows as high as possible such that your forehead shows wrinkling. Where the wrinkles end and there's no further movement is where the scalp begins. The four finger method is grossly inaccurate.

Perfect!! Great information! I just want to add how I adhere my wig. I have my hair in a pixie cut. I struggled with different ways and finally found this method. So to adhere the back I have sewn in one or two pressure clips. Then I use the yellow Got2B glue and push up my own hair at the nape with it. When it is tacky, I can put on the wig and clip the clips into my now tacky nape hair. I also use Got2B at my front hairline. This method works the best for me. Hope it helps someone else.

Dear Denise, this video is so helpful and easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing and CARING for us. I do have a question. What about using the under cap bands and head covers? For women that still have thin hair like me, I've been wondering if they're effective. I've worn wings for about 10 years and never use them to hold my wing. Only pins and the pony tail in the back are enough so far. But I know that I keep loosing hair and wondering what could be the best way to hold the wigs. Also, I've thinking in buying toppers but I'm afraid of the clips pooling my hair out. The human hair wig you had on the other day was awesome and you looked spectacular. I'll love to get a short human hair wig. Can you talk about that too?
Thank you so much for for your professionalism and wonderful work. Your #1 fan in Sacramento

Priceless, priceless video, I am an average size but my ear to ear measure is a small one, also, many people have problems with wigs sliding back, well, mine slide forward, lol, totally silly but I found myself pushing my wigs back at the front, ( my wig grip is ok on my head and with the right side on ) now I use It Stays and also a wig grip, my nightmare would be to see my wig go with the wind so I must have a wig grip plus a bit of It Stays and on windy days a head band and thanks to you I have head scarfs for winter, that wig is not going anywhere...thanks for a great video

@@heywigsister LOL, oh no, you are brave, the litlle hair I have is very fine and slippery, any wig would slide right off even if I just bend my head, they are all towards the lose side since I have a small head and face, I must secure them as much and as best as I can, another fear of mine, the wind opening the hair and show the wefts, I am looking for a hand tie but i am not sure if it would not be the same, once the hair opens I assume we can see what's under all those fibers....well, it's life.

I’ve been watching your videos for new wig wearers. I know you’re busy but I really need your help. I have hair loss so much that a wig is very necessary. I’ve measured carefully and I am circumference 23 in. Ear to ear 11.5 in. and front to back 12 in.
I fit into large cap size but the other two measurements are in the child fit.
I’m so discouraged and think I have to give up before I start. You seem so positive and willing to help. I know also there is far less choice in large caps. I feel large will be too big everywhere else regardless.
Do I have to go for maybe a custom wig? Is there such a thing?
I bought one already had a wig store and I keep having to pull it down so I don’t wear it. I wasted 1100.00. I need some reassurance from you. I’m getting so anxious. I was so looking forward to this journey.
    PLEASE help if you can.

Unfortunately I am from South Africa in the province Free State and my actual name is "Esmarie" but almost everybody calls me "Essie". Shipping cost I guess will be almost the cost of a wig. In SA I cannot find peoole like you and where to buy wigs. Can you give me perhaps advice on ordering wigs that shipment cost is not so over the top? I would even like, if possible, to order wigs through you if that is possible? My budget is very tight and I've nevee wore wigs......so much afraid if I can afford more cheaper wig (which you said is not recommended for new wig weaers) I am wasting my money and be frustrated and very shocked I waisted money🤔.. I guess I can also consider toppers as I do have shorr hair but it's just very fine and thin.

I’m watching is I write this…my circumference is 21 1/4# but my front to back and side to side is small, 12 1/4”, so many regular caps are huge on me..I get a handful of extra wefts at my crown and could fit a ball in it!😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't know how to choose a short wig when the nape length is listed. I stick to 3-4" because I don't know how to measure (or what to measure) to determine if I can wear a shorter back length, such as 2" on a pixie. Can you help me? Great video. I watch all your videos.

I reviewed your video and see where you discussed nape, but it did not specifically address my question. or the nape measurement. Should I measure from the middle of the occipital bone to the lowest point my hair grows on my neck? One of the RUclips reviewers commented in a video that she shaves her neck (which I am unwilling to do). Is the way I measure more or less correct? I love your videos. Everything looks good on you. I really appreciate your document indicating which brands run large and which run small. I know it is not an exact science, but the general guideline you give in your document is very helpful.

Do you have a video concerning if you can wear a shorter wig if you have a very low hair neckline.

I don't have a video specifically on that, but I do talk about being aware of what length neckline you need for coverage... for me personally anything less than 2 inches I need to be very diligent abut keeping my hairline hidden... right now my go to for that is a wig grip and I talk about that in this video: ruclips.net/video/VTF9DXVqUDk/видео.html

I think it depends on where
Clothes are made…Vietnam is small..the people are small…Italy..bigger u are larger. I think that’s the reason. Have to look where things are made!

Hi! So I'm curious how you are styling your hair underneath the wigs? I've seen videos where women with long thick hair will split it in 2 or even three pieces, braid each piece and then sort of wrap the braid around the head and secure with bobbi pins... how you wrap it will depend on the amount of hair you have. Another option would be to try a topper... they make them in all sorts of cap sizes so you can get as little or as much coverage as you want... and then you just blend your hair in with it.

@@heywigsister my hair is straight and silky so that adds to slippage I try two braids and place around like a crown or in a circle it’s waistl length. Maybe I should measure with it done
