Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I know this is a HUGE struggle for my wig sisters.. those who are VERY petite and those who are VERY large struggle greatly. It doesn't seem there are really any options in the ready to wear market for women who fall more to either end of the size spectrum. It is similar to those who are SUPER petite physically (and end up having to shop in the children's section of stores) or very tall or in sizes larger than even the plus size sections offer. Custom really seems to be the only way to go. Example- I have been tall with long legs since I was in 8th grade. I could never find pants with legs long enough for me back then... so I always had to take pants to a tailor to have them work some magic to let them out as far as they code, and then they often had to add some extra material to them to make them work. Now there are more options for tall women, but not back then. I'm so sorry I don't have better advice, but from what I have heard custom is really the way to go... now, that said... there are LOTS of videos on RUclips that show how to make a wig smaller... so if you are willing to practice with "wig surgery" you should be able to make many wigs work. I know there are also women out there who do this for a living and so if you don't want to attempt it yourself you can always pay someone. My friend Sherry Schaefer from My Wig Coach does this... here is her website if you want to check her out: www.mywigcoach.com/

I am a peanut head too. I find that Ellen Wille wigs fit best and you can really cinch them in. The worst part though is that the ear tabs often sit too low and rub my ears raw. I did learn how to do a few nip and tucks and that helped the front to back issue too. There are some RUclips videos that show you how. Just practice on an el- cheapo wig first!

@@dogmom7698me too. I find that if the wig tabs fit in front of my ears then the whole wig fits over my ear and I can’t tuck the wig behind my ear which I really want to do. My head is 21” and I think I have a really flat head in the back. This video helped me realize that it’s going to be trial and error for me for sure.

You can try looking for children's/Kid's wigs. Most children's wig caps, fall under Ultra Petite, which is 19"-20" circumference. Major brands that carry children's wigs are: Jon Renau, HairDo KIDZ, and Amore. Most are synthetic, but you can find human hair, as well, with Jon Renau. Also, do a search online for children's wigs, there are more companies that make children's wigs.

It's funny you mentioned crying when the wigs didn't look as good on you as Taz. She looks great true, but I thought the same thing about you when I first started watching your videos. You look fabulous in every wig I've seen you wearing. My favorites on you on the tress allure wavy and curly styles. Every wig looks so natural on you. I'm 65 now, so I don't look very good even in makeup, but I have been feeling more brave everyday to finally start wearing a wig and buzzing my hair as well, and it's all because of your videos and how you care so much about sharing detailed info. I could listen to your videos all day long, and some days I have. Have a great day, bless you for being so informative. 😊❤

I've buzzed my hair last month and got a wig, but never really wore it outside, only at home, to see how it feels. And I've been (luckily for a short time), one of those who feel that the wig is riding up their head. However when I went out with my wig yesterday for the first time I realized that it's my perception of where the wig should be sitting- I kept pulling it as low down on my neck as possible, and when it rode up, I was veeery apprehensive. A bit of research and I found that it's the place where your neck bends that the wig should be sitting on, AND THATS THE EXACT SPOT IT WANTED TO BE. Bottom line, it's all in us, and our newbie perception. I can't thank you enough for the work you do for us.

You are beautiful Denise and such an inspiration! I have lived in shame for so many years after having lost about 90% of my hair ( I used to have massively thick and georgous hair) . I decided to step off the edge and begin the process of finding a wig that I can look and feel like my true self in. But it has been so overhwelming- a world I know almost nothing about. But after having made a couple of bad purchases, I had given up but after listening to you, I am ready to try again. Thank you so much for sharing all your helpfull wisdom and experience!!

Excellent video, Denise. Every person starting out on their wig journey should see this video. This is one of your most informative videos.
I am struggling with quality issues with Ellen Wille; and, I mean serious issues. I tried a Cara 100 Deluxe. The wig I received had short hairs sticking out all over the top and the wig looked like it had a 'thinning hair' problem just like the problem many of us are dealing with. I just got an EW, Link, in a light color; you can see the rows of wafts in the back really well. My husband noticed it right away; when I used a hand mirror; I was shocked at this quality issue. I like EW because there wigs don't look 'wiggy' on me; but, do they have serious quality issues, right now anyway.
By the way, all three wigs you showed looked really great on you and did not look wiggy at all.
You helped a lot people with this one, Denise.

Thank you so much, Lyn... I'm so sorry I missed this comment when you left it. To be honest, I am starting to see quality issues in all the brands. I'm not sure what is going on but it is not limited to Ellen Wille. I wonder if it is supply chain issues, or short staffing issues... it is frustrating with the cost of these wigs.

Denise, you should do a video on wigs and makeup. I’ve heard that when you wear a different color wig you should adjust your makeup colors. It really confuses me because I’m not a makeup expert (not even close) - I can’t even put on false lashes! Your makeup looks so good in this video - what do you use? If you did a video I think it would help a lot. I can’t be the only one confused by colors of wigs/color palettes of makeup. Just a thought.

I totally agree, I’m hopeless with makeup, always have been, and now that I’m much older I really struggle. I’m 66 so considerably older than you, but I’m sure the basic colour schemes remain the same? What colour lipstick with warm blonde, cool blonde, neutral blonde etc? Eyeshadow etc? For me it’s a maze, I’m always lost.

@@Jillybeans140 Hi there, I am almost 71, I’ve lost most of my hair to Covid and let my hair remaining hair go silvery white, hardly any left. my make up has always been cool. I don’t care what all the make up artists show, those pinky rusty browny eyeshadow shades never looked good on me, I have darker blue eyes, and I wear shades of very soft light blue on my lids, or light soft grays and navies blended in the crease with sort of a pink highlighter, very subtle. I consistently get comments on my eyes that I have the most beautiful eyes that they have ever seen. My eyeshadow is the same no matter what, it works for me, I just change the shade of my blush a little bit and my Lipsticks, they are neutral Beige pinky shades, and my blushes are beige pink on my nose, And soft muted shades of pink on my cheeks, with muted pink mauve or rose colored lip liners for my lips. All of my clothing is centered around cool tones, orange looks horrible, olive green looks horrible, browns if they are neutral look OK as long as my face is brightened. So that’s my color scheme, hope this helps anyone. I don’t care what people think of blue eyeshadows, they are muted on me and they make me look great. Soft gray tones are great on medium fair skin tones with blue eyes and neutral hair, I used to be ashy light blonde and now I’m silvery and my colors work wonderfully. No brown eyeshadows for me, sorry, just make me look like I’m crying or tired.

I a honestly not an expert, and I posted a make up video a few years ago and got some nasty comments about my technique... I'm not sure if I want to open myself up to that again, lol... but I do get asked all the time so maybe I need to suck it up and just show what I do and ignore the negative mean people... Thanks for the informative video, Denise! I run on the small side of average and wear short, pixie style wigs. I sometimes have issues with my wigs feeling like they’re riding up the back of my head because I have a fairly flat occipital bone. It’s like there’s not enough bone to anchor the wig around and under it. 😊 I purchased a Hair Grip this summer and it worked great for a while but now it’s sliding up, too. I know that I could size down to a small Hair Grip from a medium, so that’s the next thing to try. I’ve had fairly good success with Ellen Wille wigs, so I agree with you that they might be a good choice for wig wearers with smaller heads.

My first wig was a Noriko, which runs small, generally, and had lace covering the wefts at the top, which was incredibly hot.
But you have to start somewhere! It takes time, experience and money to figure out what you really like and even then, you’re not done.
Just like with clothing and shoes, your needs and desires change over time.

this is so helpful. I keep buying wigs I think are too small but maybe it's just that it's too new to feel comfortable. Because I'm constantly worried that my wig is going to slingshot off my head! I'm so glad that's how you described it because that's the perfect metaphor. Also, I thought the ear tabs falling just above my ears meant it was too small BUT i wear glasses and it's more comfortable. You really are a gift. Thank you.

Valuable information for new wig wearers. I had no idea where the ear tabs were suppose to fall and how that affected coverage. My head size is very similar to yours so I have some extra bulk below the crown. It's good to know that if the look and feel is tolerable, I can consider it ok.
    Thank you, Carla

Denise, you have helped me so very much!! I have only gone with Raquel Welch wigs. I am bad about returns and I can usually depend on RW. I want to try Real Deal next. I have only bought Winner and Power the last two times. I want to try a short bob. I have Lupus and heart problems that cause so many issues and fatigue is the worst and doctor visits are so difficult just getting there..🙄 I have my bio hair cut very short pixie due to severe hair loss. I am saving for Real Deal. I just need to try a longer style so I don't have to shave my neck. Thanks again for your videos. You are such a blessing with your upbeat personality.

Denise yes each manufacturers sizes run so different! An Average on different wig companies run so different! Ear tabs are important to be bc I wear glasses! Rooted wigs blend with the sides for me so much better! I can change colors a lot if the wigs are rooted bc I am a brunette ! Ordering sizes and colors are a crap shoot if I can say that :) sometimes I can order the exact same wig and both are different either In color or size! Good review very informative! Hugs, Barb ❤

You look great in that wig, Denise! I have to say that wigs, too, felt ithcy on my head and they road back on me. Then, I found the wig grip and two-sided tape, and it has made a world of difference. But, I'm still on the search for the perfect wig for my face/face structure. Haven't found her yet. 😞 I have a puny head and it's hard to fine petities in styles I like.

Wish I’d seen this about the return policy checking. Shirleys would not take a return on what I was telling them I was sent the wrong color or that there was something wrong with the color of the wig topper. It was so far off the picture. and I had ordered two in the same color except one was SS version. and they were so different… many shades different. They would not listen to me or I don’t know if they even looked at the pictures! I knew they didn’t take returns but I figured on a color error by manufacturer like that they surely would but nope.

Hi Denise, Im new to the wig world I recently bought my first wig and it’s average cap size and I find it’s a little big. I can’t really tuck the hair behind my ears as the ear tab falls way too low. It also seems to bunch up heaps as I have it adjusted as small as it goes. I’m looking at buying a full lace glueless wig so I can wear the hair up and style it all different ways. I’ve looked up the measurements for their caps and all my measurements except one are the same as their small cap. My ear to ear across forehead is 11.5” where as the small cap is 11”. I’m pretty sure my wig I have now in the average cap is equivalent or pretty close to their medium cap. I’m buying internationally so I’m recalling wanting to get the right cap size first time round as I’m wanting the wig to wear away on holidays and don’t think I’ll have enough time to send it back and get the right size before I go. So any help or advise you can give me would be greatly appreciated thanks Michelle

This was such a great video, Denise! I've been watching so many youtube videos for months and months and feel like I have analysis paralysis! LOL. Thanks for the info about getting wigs from a retailer with a good return policy. I had never considered that because I thought you couldn't return wigs. Great tip. I have a couple of wig shops near me and just really need to quit being so hesitant. Thank you!

    • @heywigsister

You are welcome!! For online retailers the one with the best return policy is wigs.com ... they are like the Amazon of the wig world so they don't charge a restocking fee (many smaller ones do) and allow you to print a return label from their website for less than $10. Sending you hugs!!

Sooo i am new and this vid is def on time for me.. I did buy 3 new Paula Young wigs .. I have discovered I have a GINORMOUS HEAD.. WELL. Fat back neck.. so I have some dieting to do.. but I did cut the straps and cut and and reset those straps into the spaces between the weaves of hair to make an inch Bigger on each side.. my eat to ear is def average and the top to neck is also average so this helped fit my wig much better. I came here to finger out just where the ear tabs should go and how far down.. YOU HELPED GREATLY.. Thanks so much.. id would give bout anything to actually chat w someone who wears wigs... Hello Denise. I am watching your very informative video for the first time. I love the way the front of your wigs looks so natural. My question is, do you use a wig grip (something that holds the wig on the head) to hold your wigs on your head? if you do what type do you use?

That is such a personal decision.... personally I don't like to wear anything under my wigs because I don't like the extra bulk and tightness, but other women find so much security in them. I think it is a bit of trial and error to find what works, and ALSO, what works under one wig might not work under another so you might need to have a few different solutions. I do wear wig grips under my headband wigs, though... my favorite wig grip is The Hair Grip... here is my video on it: ruclips.net/video/Fq2xyBv0xdY/видео.html .. every single person who I have recommended this to have LOVED it and it has become their favorite... and I've spoken with the creator a few times now and she is so wonderful! The code DENISE20 will get you 20% off (I don't get any commission from your purchase, she was just nice enough to give me a code to share). If you want to try a wig cap I recommend the BelleTress Grip Cap- it is a wig grip and cap in one, here is my review on that: ruclips.net/video/pED0TAkkvwU/видео.html Good luck, I hope you find something that works AWESOME!!

Hey Denise! I just got a couple of cheap wigs from Amazon and just tried to put one on and failed miserably. Lol Only tried one so far and it has two adjusters on each side at the nap. Not ever wearing a wig, how do I know where to start...should it be on the first clip holes on each side to begin with and see how it feels and tighten as I think it feels good?? Ughhh Sorry, must sound silly but the when I kind of got it on, it was like sliding back from my forehead. Plus it didn't fit flush around the bottom of my head either. I might have had the adjusters too tight. I have a wig grip coming tomorrow to maybe add that too and let the adjusters out more. I felt like I didn't even know how to put it on, do ya bend your head over upside down and always start from the forehead and pull down to the nape? Can't ya tell I'm a complete newbie!! Lol Thanks!!😁 Big hugs from Texas!
