You're so right about wearing a new wig for awhile each day. I got one, tried it on and immediately re-boxed it to send back. I hadn't shipped it yet and a dear friend convinced me to wear it again. That wig turned out to be one of my favorites and I got so many complements on it... which also helped my opinion of it.
Another thing I've found is that if you are going with a color that isn't "normal" for you; please be sure to match your makeup to the wig color. Nothing looks worse than wearing "cool" makeup with a "warm" wig or vise versa. So don't assume it looks wrong on you even though you have makeup on. Maybe you just need to go with different makeup. I have one now that looks terrible if I don't darken my eyebrows, shadow and lipstick considerably.
I have sets of warm and sets of cool everything; foundation , blush, brows, shadow, lips...EVERYTHING.

Oooh, the makeup advice is good! I hadn't thought of that. I'm not terribly experienced with makeup and rarely change it up, but it makes total sense. Thank you so much for sharing that wisdom!!

Denise, I recently discovered your channel and just want to say thank you for all you do to help us wig wearers.
I realized i was losing my hair when I was about 30. I never tried wigs, just tried to hide the fact that my hair was thinning. When I was in my late 40's I found out I had cancer. I lost all my hair during chemo.
In a small way, it was a blessing. Since i was completely bald anyway and fighting for my life, I suddenly had the courage to try a wig.
I guess I got lucky.....I bought some super cheap wigs that looked nothing like my real hair.... and loved them! I discovered that I prefer wigs with bangs, that short styles are not for me, and that every color I've tried has worked! I purposely bought wigs that looked nothing like my real hair. My thoughts were that I hated the way my real hair had looked. I wanted to have fun!
Ironically, it never occurred to me to style wigs that I didn't like out of the box. Your videos have inspired me to try new wigs and style them. I've only been wearing wigs for 3 years now, and still have a lot to learn.
Thank you again for caring about us so much. Your heart truly shows in your videos. ❤

I am in the process of trying to figure out which wig would be the best for me to start with, and your videos have really given me a lot to think about. Prior to watching them, I thought, if I see something I really like and it’s within the realm of what would look natural on me, that’s what I’ll get. From watching your videos I know there’s a lot more to it and I’m more likely to be successful with my first wig after watching them. I really thought one of the heat friendly wigs would be the way to go; your advice on this subject really makes sense. The less I need to work with my first wig, the more I think I’m going to enjoy it Thank you so much, Denise.

Oh Denise, where was this video 18 months ago?!? 🤣 You could have saved me a boatload of money. I'm so glad this info is now available in a concise video for our new wig sisters, and there is also sage advice there for those of us who have been on the journey for awhile. I totally agree about keeping photos of all the wigs, good and bad, and also having a spreadsheet. Thank you for all you are doing to make this road easier.

Great info. I can't tell you how helpful it's been for me to wear a wig around the house for a few days in a row to get comfortable seeing myself in it. Also taking a selfie and paying close attention to the measurements. I learned early on, for example, that since I have a low hairline, any nape shorter than 2" wasn't going to work for me. I'm mid 70's and contrary to what many people believe, there is a wide range of beautiful styles and colors that we can wear very realistically as we age. Granted, I won't be bopping around in Finn or similar , longer, fuller style, but if you pay close attention to what measurements are most flattering to you, you will see many more options than you might think you can wear. Same w/style & color. Ladies be patient with yourself during this process and believe Denise when she says it will get easier.....it does and it can be fun.
Looking forward to #3, Denise. Well done!🤗❤

I am three months in to wig wearing after 14 years of hair systems . Denise has been such an amazing source of super advice , such a star . I wore wigs on stage and had hair pieces so I was in the ball pool . My third wig was Ellen Willie Onda Plum Red Shadow , it was a revelation . I then bought 3 pixies , one went back and the jury is out on the other 2 . I am amazed at how quickly I came to accept that chin length curly styles with plummy tones is the way to go . Keep doing what you do so well Wig Sister . 😘

This is my 2nd wig journey. I wore wigs 20 years ago and had some that I loved-gave them away when I retired and have been kicking myself ever since! I love your channel-so upfront and honest about expectations on the journey. It doesn’t matter how someone else looks in a wig, it’s how you feel in it. For me, my confidence and attitude are a big part of whether I look good in a certain style or not. I ordered my first wig this week after watching uTube videos for months. Can’t wait to get it!!! 🥳

Just found you today. 3 videos in & you've already helped me so much! Answered questions I didn't even know to ask. One of my daughters has been dealing with stress alopecia, and started her wig journey a couple years ago. I've watched her struggle through trial & error, ultimately shaving her head, more trial & error, and come through the other side being comfortable and even having FUN with wigs. It's actually helped her with the confidence to love her natural hair as it grows back from the total shave. You're talking about the vulnerability & emotional struggle right now and it's spot on with what I've seen her go through. I started trying wigs as a bonding experience with her. I ended up cutting about 12 inches off my hair to make it easier to wear wigs. I love the versatility and flexibility! I work from home, so most days not worried about my hair. I picked a short wavy bob, grey/pink ombre with bangs. I struggle with the hairline, so I've so far opted for bangs to avoid it as much as possible. Anyway, I ramble. THANK YOU for being here & provided this information.

Great video Denise. I think choosing a color is the hardest thing. Manufacturers photos are so misleading, wish there was some standard they all used for colors. The number thing is confusing for new customers. Some have numbers while others have names and no numbers!

Denise, this is a great video. I wish I’d heard this video 20+ years ago. I walked into a wig store in the Atlanta area. I tried on 2 wigs & spent 400.00. They didn’t measure my head or anything. No advice, no tips. Despite me getting compliments every time I wore it & I’ve only worn it a handful of times, all I could think was that ppl knew it was a wig & even though I had someone thin my wig, all I could see was HAIR & I wasn’t used to seeing hair!
I am 70 & I’m warming up to the idea of buying a white wig. My hair isn’t very dark & it’s white around my face so I “frost” it pale blonde. It’s hard to find a wig that doesn’t have dark roots. That’s the opposite of nature. If I wore those wigs with roots that defeats the purpose of wearing a wig if everyone knows it’s a wig, right???
    Thx for the video!

I also went on a Facebook support page and someone told me to "Calm down!" I guess they were referring to the fact that my hair loss wasn't as bad as some others. I've been losing my hair for two years and I am devastated, so to have someone be so insensitive and telling me to calm down, there is no way I'm going back on social media, especially when I'm looking for support during this trying time in my life. So no, I wish I could find a safe place for support and to possibly purchase wigs for less, but I ditched out of that group so fast it would make your wig spin.

I feel that in my soul! I used to have super thick hair (like couldn't run my fingers through it without getting stuck thick). I'm 52 and it's thinned so much. My husband doesn't even notice it and acts like I'm crazy for being upset about it. (His hair is naturally fine & thin, so we are on opposite ends of the hair spectrum.) Anyway, I feel your struggle & thank you for sharing your experience.

It’s a shame FB is so vicious, but it seems there is more ugliness now than ever in my lifetime. I tend to pick sites on cruises & dogs to stay away from drama but even that doesn’t work. I find that so many ppl have no tolerance for any opinion different from their on. What I do is stop reading the first negative word I see & learn to scroll on by. After all, these people won’t change no matter what you say. My advice is to not let these people steal your joy. There are more nice people than you think & they care about you & only want to help you. I wish you the best.

Tiny tip: pay attention to your face shape. Wigs that look fantastic on some reviewers will look weird on you because you have completely different face shapes. Another tip re your significant others etc. My husband is the very supportive type. He couldn't "see" my hair loss. He didn't understand why I wanted to wear a wig. He laughed everytime I tried one on. At the same time I desperately needed him to be supportive he wasnt 😪 . Then I bought a wig very close to the way my hair "used" to be and he liked it!! I stucked with the color and gradually expanded from there. I then understood my hubby wasn't being unsupportive, in his minds eye I was the same woman hair and everything as I was 20 yrs earlier and that is lovely. Point is ...picking a wig close to your bio hair helps others get used to the idea too. My grown daughters love all my wigs mistakes and all. When we gather from around the country they can't wait to converge on my wig closet for try ons, lol

Very good advise, wig sister!!! I finally took the plunge and bought three wigs. Had no idea they were coming from an over-seas company. I am NOT by any means handy with my hands. So, even if I tried, I don't think I could make these wigs look good. Spent about $600, and they were all horrible wigs - sent them ALL back, and didn't even get half back!!!! Expensive lesson to learn. So, yes. I'd say if you're not handy with hair tools, go with name brand wigs!

So much to learn and so little time. When you “need” hair you want to do it right now and have it be perfect-as you say “not gonna happen. I do agree with the “ wanting to try the hair style you always wanted to have” as being a set back in my trials. Since I have had “white” hair not gray for many years I discovered the importance of numbered colors. 60 is my number not light gray or other fancy name. Got a lot of ugly wigs on the shelf.

Hello Denise …thank you for your time again. Total newbie here. Have one topper which I am even loosing my confidence about. I really want the straight up with a twist, I think the Color match will be good. I know you say not the hf fibres to start. I get the short part having less friction. Any other one you would recommend that aren’t hf. I am ok with a straightener but that is it as far as heat. So disheartening about how long they last. Thanks Denise

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  Год назад

Honestly, I've sort of changed my opinion about that when it comes to shorter STRAIGHT pieces like SUWAT (Straight up with a Twist) in the 2 years since I made this series... I find them to be VERY easy to care for and more realistic than straight synthetic (in my opinion).... if you can use a straightener then you can care for a straight heat friendly, ESPECIALLY one like SUWAT that doesn't really rub up on clothing. I say go for it!!

AWESOME series on wigs! I also created a chart in Excel to help me compare measurements of wigs I own and wigs I might like to own. This way I can quickly eliminate those “maybes” because something is too long or too short. You make a very good point about investing in a quality wig with good features in the beginning. I come from a family of fine thin haired women. My first wigs were similar in color and style to my bio hair ( I’m fortunate to still have my hair) and open cap which meant A LOT of permatease!! I’m sure you can imagine how odd they looked on me, lol. I learned how to thin and trim by watching videos and made them somewhat realistic looking. (Yah, right) Well it’s still a journey and my more recent purchases have been from Aderans “AMORE” line of wigs. They are all full mono tops, 2 of 3 have lace fronts, minimal permatease, if any, and they fit my petite average head very good! Even family members couldn’t tell I was wearing a wig. Looking forward to #3 video 😁

So I bought my first wig and I started with a discounted “scene stealer” Raquel Welch wig. I am used to having long easily tangled hair lol and actually, this is the reason I decided to cut all hair off and wear a wig. Do you think this is a choice I might regret? Im nervous seeing how hard they are to manage and people saying it doesnt last very long. I am not someone who could afford to spend $500-600 on wigs but I wanted something that was pretty and natural looking

I am just at the beginning of my wig journey. You said to start with a low density wig...can you suggest a good start for density? I have always had fine hair

My bio hair is pure white and poker straight and very fine... now it is nearly all gone... I did not see any wigs in extra small size that would match my own bio hair. Oh dear... I just ordered my very first wig from Studio 1, Estetica "Berlin" with the same color R30/28/26... I thought it was a reddish blonde...? I don't even know if it will fit my small head... It will be Imported so I would never even try to return it if I don't like it... but... it's just my first one..

Do you sell your wigs with/ in the box or do you use a bag to save on shipping. I have about 7 wigs I’d love to sell so I’m asking for myself. I too but some used. But most on clearance. Thank you for this series it’s being so helpful 😍🥰💖

If I have the box then I include it. I figure most would want the box. I just put it in a shipping bag and it is usually light enough to be able to go first class.

You are correct about high hair but I have always strived for hair volume by using hot rollers and teasing however; never accomplished my dream hair. So I am loving permatease. I may be in the minority. Just sharing my story. Thanks for your videos…..love it…good job.

Ive started with some cheap Amazon wigs. Now I know what I like and im ready to up my price point, tell me where to buy 🙏🙏🙏
Edit: im normally a dirty blond, but the color im going for? Dark brown, its absolutely stunning with my blue eyes. Even my cheap little amazon brown wig makes my confidence soar.

I've been researching for 5 months and I still have no idea where to buy a wig or which wig to choose. This is so difficult, even though I've watched so many videos and even had a Zoom call with WigStudio1! I wish I wasn't so indecisive. It's agonizing, I just don't want to purchase the wrong one. Any suggestions about how to dive in already?

Hi Annette. I'm new to wigs, too. Is there a brick and mortar wig store near you? Maybe it would help to see them in person and try them on before comitting.

I am having trouble finding a wig that looks good and not like a monkey 😂. I have short hair and it’s a bit thick except on top. I feel like I look frumpy, I want to be a wig wearer really bad, but I am having a hard time finding the right one. I wish I knew someone who could help me. I purchased a Raquel Welch in February and I loved it, but once I got home and started wearing it, i didn’t feel that love or good feeling on me. Any suggestions or help are very appreciated:-) Thank you! 😊

I went to a wig store the other night and there were signs everywhere saying you could not try on any of the wigs. I would never buy one without trying it online. Those you can send back if you don't like it. I just don't understand this policy

I was scammed last month. First purchase of wig. I thought it was ok. Received horrible joke wig that was nothing like photo it was long and stringy. I thought I ordered short wig. Can't find the company. I just got one today from Paula Young because I little spend. It is just ok but didn't expect great for what I paid. 75 and losing my hair. Admire you and what you do.

Can anyone help me find a RUclips video doing strictly Headband wigs? I have them & I have no clue how to put them on where the bottom of wig rides up the back of my head. There is a clip at the bottom but it doesn't help at all.
If anyone can guide me to the right info I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you💞

Unfortunately I am from South Africa in the province Free State and my actual name is "Esmarie" but almost everybody calls me "Essie". Shipping cost I guess will be 😢 the cost of a wig. In SA I cannot find peoole like you and where to buy wigs. Can you give me perhaps advice on ordering wigs that shipment cost is not so over the top? I would even like, if possible, to order wigs through you if that is possible? My budget is very tight and I've never wore wigs......so much afraid if I can afford a more cheaper wig (which you said is not recommended for new wig wearers) I will be wasting my money and be frustrated and very shocked I waisted money🤔.. I guess I can also consider toppers as I do have shorr hair but it's just very fine and thin.
If you were in my shoes what would you have done?
