Great review, watched whole thing. It's cleans are good but it definitely shines the most when you go all out and the full spectrum of sounds come through, you can see why this amp delivered Jerry's brutal sound

I just got my JJ Jr. 1x12 combo yesterday. Its inspiring and the clean channel is beautiful too. I love it. You don't need a attenuation for this amp, the master volume is perfect. Friedman is killing it.
Hi That is what I´m looking for to confirm. It´s like anyone who want to play a tube amp have a band, a rehersal space and gigs, so the rest of us have to use modelers. I have seen all the demos of this amp and some people says that at 9 o´clock is pretty loud for a bedroom

A little extra rubber is ok ... safety first!!! But the timing of that in the video after hyping the build quality is quintessential you, that's awesome! Very cool riff in your opening song as well, thanks again for the best demo of this I've seen!

Got my BE50 in 2018. Got a Dirty Shirley mini combo a couple months ago and just love it. You won’t regret it either way.

My friend who is a guitar tech was hanging out with Lemmy at the Rainbow Bar and he said Jerry Cantrell pulled up in a 63 split window Corvette. I don't know what that has to do with anything but it popped into my head.
I remember the Rainbow before Lemmy. Still, it just wasn't the same last time I was there...RIP!
Anything about Jerry Cantrell is cool. The guy is the best rhythm guitarist/songwriter on the planet!
I’ve had the JJ Jr for over 6 months now and I think the truest statement Henning has made in this video is that it’s an amp that just inspires you to play. I never have to search for a good tone, because whatever the amps set at sounds good, and I can just plug in and play. The more I play it, the more I want to play it, and the more I’m inspired to write, and that’s worth every bit of coin. Some people voiced their concern about the EL-84s, but as Dave Friedman said, it comes down to how the tubes work with the design of the amps circuit. A typical gripe is that EL-84 amps sound thin and muddy, though the JJ Jr has girth and definition... so, it’s really more about the amps design. I’d urge people to try it in person before arriving at preconceived impressions, or basing their judgements on listening to the amp via RUclips clips through earbud headphones.

@K I love Alice in Chains and especially Layne's and Jerry's vocals combined. AIC was one of the better things to happen in the 90s
Great amp demo/review. It works in our favor that you don't like Alice in Chains to get a sense of the amp as just an amp compared to other amps, aside from its name-sake. And as such the amp obviously did extremely well.
I agree, when an amp starts instantly inspiring riffs and music, then there's really no greater complement to an amp in my book. Being the owner of two Friedman amps, and not the least surprised as both my Friedmans constantly inspire me and others who play them.

The sound from the crunch channel (low gain) is very, very similar to the sound of the Greer Amps "Lightspeed" pedal. Great amp!!
Crazy amp with only 20 watts!!!!! Very good in all the regions. High, mid and low are pronounceable. ;-) Henning, when are you beginning to use the Robert Baker "thing"? Hahahaha. Keep up the good work. Animales al final!!

I’m running an AX8 through the effects return through Blackstar AE 10 and using a Marshall 1936 cab
I’d like to try through this Friedman and then also use a couple of pedals for delay and whatever as just a small mobile rig... thoughts?

Curious if you’ll reconsider a speaker room in the basement. Rather than ISO things in sealed tight boxes, just put the cabs down there and hang blankets to help with reflections. This way you can protect your hearing as well as get a clearer picture of the sounds. Perhaps moisture is a concern, so I understand if it never happens. But I do enjoy the tones of speaker cabinets, no compromise results.
I have 7 iso cabs on the basement. The results from micing in those are indistinguishable from what I get from the Ox or the Torpedo... literally no difference... so I don’t bother anymore.
42:00 This is real. Dave returns my emails when I have questions about my amp (often evenings via iPad - He apparently never stops working - It's crazy).

So my question is how quiet can get the amp sound through the cab without any attenuator ? And I guess that with the balance output to interface and to speakers monitors is like a modeler in the flexibiity for volume. I would like to see that point in your reviews more often, because to come back to tube amps most of the people needs something that keep the tone but at low volume. Of course the Tone King looks great but is half the price of the amp, and the OX is almos the same. I want a tube amp, not the helix-kemper-fractal-pluggins, but me a lot of people needs to play at bedroom level. Thanks

Why don't modern amplifiers don't have built-in attentuators, and dummy loads? It seems insane that a modern analog guitar amp still doesn't have a proper DI out.

This actually is the BE junior it just has a JBE switch for Jerry´s gainy tone.

An older video (yeah, a whole year and a half. LMAO), but this is the third time watching it. The song in the second intro is great. The vocal is right on. Guitars too of course.
The cleans with the chorus sounds more like 80s clean tone
I'm planing to by one, an honest A/B with Marshall Studio Classic would really help for my decision
the JJ is more flexible, has more gain and denser saturation and a more usable DI out... also 2 channels

I’ve always been a clean, pedal platform amp player (I use a lot of effects), but without a doubt if I were to get an amp and use its dirt, this would be the one for me. You have & know Friedman and Joe Morgan....I’m officially jealous. (The AC btw is the amp I truly want...ever tried his PR amp?). Great as usual, will you be at TGU (haven’t heard mention) and then after talking to you on Ben’s Birthday, have you decided on SNAMM? Love ya man.

Hi Henning I am very interesting in friedman amps, and this is almost afordable for me. I am what is called a bedroom player, I have no cabs or attenuator, just speakers monitors. My question is if I can plug this amp in my studio monitors or the audio interface and get a good sound at low volume and don´t damage the amp. I just need a confirmation. Love your videos. Keep doing great job. Thank you very much.
I just see that there is a combo version what is even much better if I still can unplugged the cab and sound in the studio monitors. I want to start building my rig step by step. Next maybe will be a universal audio or two notes like you have and slowly adding pedals. One day the big monster 100w be. Just dreaming 😁
ok man I´ve been watching and reading and I have confirmed the line out. Looking for others Friedman amps I´ve found that the Runt 50 could be perfect for me.

Corners on the amp also covers up for mediocre tolex jobs, so the lack of corners just means they’re confident in their tolex abilities which Friedman is fantastic at.
price is justified by the Wife Whisperer's mastery of makery . and that's a loud 20 watts! Loud enough to deafen a LLama or at least alarm and alpaca!
HI Henning. I´m very interesting in get a Friedman. I like the JJ, also the BE and the Butterslax. I´m trying to decide if I get the combo version of this amp or only the head. I don´t gig o play with a band in a place where I can play at high volume. I guess the speaker emulation let you put the volume as you need, quiet in the night, louder at other moments, like a modeler. I would like to play through a real cab when it´s possible, so my needs is get a quite volume with the combo that sound good and for my recordings or to play with more saturated sound use the balance output. Thanks
you can't really play quiet with this amp... it doesn't have an attenuator.... if you want any of those amps top be quiet, you'll need to get a decent attenuator as well.

I´ve heard people playing this fredman amps and sounding good and noticing the pick in the string , It looks like that is a volume conversation or maybe a loud tv levels. That is what I want , be able to play at loud tv levels when it´s possible and use the direct output to get the real sound of the amp

I have the JJ Jr and play it at home in my basement in a detached house. I run it through a 2x12 cab, and it sounds great at loud TV volume. I’m sure it’ll open up even more at gig volumes (which I can’t do at home), but I have absolutely not complaints with the sound in my basement. Cr that reason I haven’t even bothered to try the DI out. Not sure your living situation, but if you live in an apartment it maybe a different situation, but in a house where you don’t share walls and floors, I feel you can get great tones at reasonably loud volumes.
How do you feel the gain channel compares to the Victory Kraken gain channel?
And how do you feel the JJ Jr compares to the Marshall Studio Vintage 20?

I saw alice in chains a month ago and they sounded awesome!
I'd like to hear one side by side with a Bogner Atma.
But the Bogner can switch down to 5 or 1 watt (that's a bonus for good sounds at a lower volume) of course you could use an attenuator for that if you don't mind the extra expense. Unless you just need the 20 watts (if he mentioned this can switch down to a lower wattage, i missed it, but i don't think he did)And i don't think it does.
@@C_mao The Atma seems to do many more sounds...not a one trick pony, but demos on youtube do little to tell me anything. Problem is, you can't just go try them somewhere. I do wonder if the simplicity of the Friedman will make it more reliable.

@@WyattWillis88Dude is a straight up weiner lol. AIC fvcking rips and Jerry is my ultimate professor in tone, the man is a certified survivor and is still absolutely killing it across the world. Last of a dying breed, and I got one want to carry the torch of that sound. Not the swandive into straight to hell part of AIC's past, but the musical uniqueness and raw kickassness. That's a lot of hyperbole, but you get the drift lol.
maybe it sounds so good because the knobs are scaled up to 11 and the noon is numbered with 5.5!

The clean does sound a bit unique. Sounds a bit like a hybrid tone to me. Sounds solid state like. Nice gain sounds.
