Hi Josie, don't be afraid to give your honest opinion about what food you like or not. We're not mad at you being honest. Different person, different tastebud.

Frankly for me, I have never liked to have additionals like durian and other stuff on my Cendol and the original is it for me, by original I mean only 3 items, coconut milk, palm sugar and those green strands (made from pandan leaves).
True, original recipe is best. Add on is just to create sales target for more profits . Lately only they adding many other things into it especially hate sweet corn. If abam balik go for original, sugar n peanut only

I know spicy is not your thing but you can't leave Penang without having Nasi Kandar. Don't go to Hameediyah even though it's good, but they've already got so much coverage. Go to Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu (kinda close to the temple up in the hill), which is not so well known even among non-Penang Malaysians. They could use your support (but go early in the morning. The real authentic cendol doesn't even have red beans, just the green pandan jelly, coconut milk and gula melaka and it is from Indonesia and chendol taste the best to me the ones from Indonesia.
The Lo bak has minced pork, with some chopped prawn, chives and some five spice. It is wrapped with bean curd sheet. To me the best poppia should have a good dried prawn flavour. Usually have jicama and less of cabbage as part of the filling. That cendol is the original version. Its ok if you don't like certain food because different people will have different taste buds. Keep it up and just be honest..be yourself...you're travelling and eating not to please other people. We appreciate your reviews.
We call it prawns in Malaysia too. Also nothing wrong with telling the truth. Some stalls/restaurants just aren't as good as others, even in Penang 🙂. I prefer Malacca cendol too ✌️
@@josieliftsthings Yeah, there are some things great about Penang and some thing great about Malacca. KL has some great food too. So its fine to like a dish that tastes better somewhere else. To each his/her own!
While I understand that different parts of the world may lump in different foods to a certain name there is a big difference. Shrimp have one pair of legs that include claws at the end, but prawns have three pairs with claws. Prawns also tend to have legs that are a bit longer in relation to the size of the body than shrimp of similar size. Shrimp and prawns are completely different creatures. Yes, they're both decapods - which means they have external skeletons and 10 legs - but that's where the similarities end. Shrimp belong to the sub-order Pleocyemata, and prawns belong to the sub-order Dendrobranchiata... I know too much info!!...but just pointing out that there is a actual difference and why some areas of the world classify them as different and call them by a given name. Just in case you ever get on a game/quiz show.😄 Have a great day and enjoy your food wherever you are and whatever you call it.😋
The Melaka cendol you had is not common.... that one is more like an upgraded version, with ingredients and cost as well. The runny one is the one you would find most places. And the runny watery bit is coconut milk. What makes a good cendol is the gula melaka, or the brown sugar they put in it. The good ones are really fragrant and tasty. The main ingredient in Popiah is jicama... not cabbage. And do ignore the haters... they will hate on anything. It's ok not to like something if you don't.
Thank you! Yes I think lots of RUclipsrs say everything is so perfect because, well it usually gets more views and nice comments haha - but honesty always wins in the end I think!
Penang hawker food centres are just the best, really good cheap home style cooked food with a diverse selection from all over S E ASIA. We've been in penang for 3 weeks now and love the food here. It'll be sad to leave, but we're off to langkawi in a week. Love your videos and great to see another Aussie couple out here living it.
Another engaging video. I love your energy and spirit. You make me want to go to Penang and film an episode. I'd definitely get the char kway teow...the breakfast version with the rice noodle rolls and the one with the flat noodles too, of course. Cendol? Yes. But, maybe, I'll save it for a visit to Malacca. And, keep on doing what you do. As a person exploring the world and tasting new foods all of the time, your honest assessments is an essential part of your channel.
This one in Penang is the traditional version which a lot people want to taste the original cendol. The one in Melaka is the newer version which has gone high tech with added in durians, mango and ice cream which certain people might prefer only tasting durian or ice cream on its own. I even came across one cendol stall in KL where they put in famous local fruits like rambutan, langsat and mangosteen which twisted the traditional taste of cendol totally out of proportion.
That makes sense! Yea I saw actually a food truck with the same branding as the Penang cendol we had on petaling st, a bit further up near the Four Points Sheraton hotel

Omg the carrot cake looks delicious! I have visited Penang a couple of times! That apom looks very different than the Apoms we have in Klang Valley, The best thing bout Malaysia is we love our food and every state does it differently! Where I am from the best Apom in Klang (Love Mom Restaurant) when eaten fresh out of the pan it is crispy on the edges and the middle is a creamy coconut pancake like texture! I don’t really like Cendol 🤣 I prefer Ice Kacang/ABC which is another well known Malaysia shaved ice dessert next to cendol. btw!~ I love watching your video because you are honest with what you like and don’t like! I think the half boiled eggs with bread is tasteless? If yes, usually the local will add some seasoning where you can see lots of light black soy sauce and pepper on the dining tables. We will add some on the eggs and mixed around before we eat together with the bread or we will dip the bread with the eggs and eat together 😁

The specialty of this famous Penang dish is the method of preparation, which lies in its popularity. But many times the commonly prepared food is not less than this popular food. I even like your "egg pancakes".
It’s ok to not like certain dishes. I’m Malaysian and have my favorite Malaysian foods and I also have Malaysian foods that I would avoid. It’s a personal preference. If you liked everything it would not be real/ authentic. We love and appreciate your honesty.
I've lived in Vietnam for over 4 years and I don't like a lot of Vietnamese food, I like strong flavours such as Indian curries - that's just my taste. Of course its fine for others to like different things, people shouldn't be getting upset about it. Opinions and taste make the world go around.
The one that u hv in melaka is not original, they already add all other fruits and ice cream. The cendol in penang is the original type, its serve with shreaded ice, coconut milk ( in Malaysia they call it Santan) brown sugar (we called it Gula Melaka) and the green thing that u call it green noodle is actually a mix flour and pandan colour that call it Cendol.
Honest is the best 👍😊❤️🇲🇾 every cendol stall have different taste, i only like cendol stall at my house to be honest, not very brave to try at any other stall, im afraid i dont like it and waste it🤭🤭😁❤️
I agree with u about the icecream u had in melaka is nicer than the one u just eat in penang , idont like it too ,itryed it one tome n i gave it to cats 😂, n ur right if u dont like something for sure u gona say it ,keep sharin ur experiense please n dont gave damn of what peoples says 😂
It’s really OK not to like some Malaysian dish or the one from any particular vendor. Even we ourselves disagree with each other’s taste. For example I’m from the East coast so mamak food culture like the famous nasi kandar is just so-so for me but give me nasi kerabu nasi padang or Thai food anyday.
@@sirbobhatethenumberyoutubegive in malaysia if u have ais-cream as topping is ABC . it also desert that famous in Malaysia.... cendol must have melaka sugar dan coconut cream + cendol
I do believe that the variation of foods that we had throughout the whole Malaysia even though it’s the same name is to cater the local taste bud. You are allowed to have your own opinion on food just like everyone else.
The best popiah is not made by Chinese but by mamak (Indian Muslim). Mamak popiah. Is the traditional original Popiah. Go back to Penang and try Mamak's popiah. It is not soy milk, it is coconut milk and the Melaka one is the newer version and the one on this blog is original. Original is only made only with Melaka palm sugar, cendol noodle coconut milk and shave iced. Other than these ingredients are all newer versions
Definitely! I think the place we were supposed to go to for popiah was Muslim because the rest of the shops there were. But they were closed. I wonder if it was permanently 🤔
I’d be surprised if u liked all the food in MY. Coz I’m Malaysian and I don’t like some local food either. Like I can’t stand petai or stinky beans. Melaka cendol can also be ‘plain' like Penang ones depending on what restaurant or stall u go to. I like my cendol with musang king durian 🤤.
If I were to be critical, I would say research what you plan to eat so that you don't have the misconceptions of what it is. The Melaka mixed fruits cendol is a fusion and not cendol so it is not fair to compare. Such would be the same if I were to compare the Aussie Fish and Chips with Fish and Vege Tempura which is amazing! :).... Also you didn't try the famous Penang Street food like Hokkien Mee, Assam Laksa, Nasi Kandar. The traditional Roti Bakar with Half Boil Eggs should be eaten with soy sauce and pepper without the sugar on the bread, just butter.
Hey! Thanks for this! We definitely researched. Sometimes I like to do my complete first impression with no knowledge which I find quite genuine, but this was a food tour so we definitely looked into it! I’m totally aware the melaka cendol is a variation which is why I mentioned the “new version” v “original version” in the video, (Probably didn’t use the right words for that though for the confusion) 😂 But the melaka one was from a place called Cendol so 😂. We definitely tried all of them! (Off camera though) hokkien mee was my favourite 😂 I added pepper but no soy sauce because I can’t have it. But I learnt this from having it in Singapore when I ate it 😁😂 All delicious food though! And I appreciate your respectful comment 🫶🏻🫶🏻

@@josieliftsthings okay done...and now i'm waiting for your Terengganu video...Haha...U should go there before the monsoon season start...if not you can't go to the island there. ( Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian etc )
You HAVE to try Hameed Mee Pata sotong! Its noodles with squid but its very spicy 😂
Mouth watering video. Im super jealous
It was deliciousness!
Can try maggi goreng, not mee but maggi goreng at Batu Lanchang Market Food Court. 😊
I'm from Penang. Please go to xcape in teluk bahang water theme park you will enjoy
Thanks for the suggestion!
The haters is everywhere.Just ignore them. Do what you want and u can always be honest about it.Don't let the haters opinion gets you. Most Malaysian understand you can likes or dislike certain food.Everyone do
Hahaha doesn’t get to me it’s just funny! Lots of people get really mad for no reason 😂😂😂 I’m always going to be me and say what I think.
Thank you for your lovely comment! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
@@josieliftsthings Glad you totally fine with it. Enjoy each and every moment of your day in here and welcome to my country Malaysia 😊

It's good to be honest..no worries! 👍 enjoy your stay here 😄👌
The specialty of this famous Penang dish is the method of preparation, which lies in its popularity. But many times the commonly prepared food is not less than this popular food. I even like your "egg pancakes".
Oh for sure! And yes they were delicious

Hope u enjoy urself in penang..... THE HAWKER FOOD IS THE BEST...
It is!
Good foods👍
Thank you!
Lobak is pork meat wrapped in tofu skin (called fuk chuk in Cantonese)
It’s ok to not like certain dishes. I’m Malaysian and have my favorite Malaysian foods and I also have Malaysian foods that I would avoid. It’s a personal preference. If you liked everything it would not be real/ authentic. We love and appreciate your honesty.
Thank you! Yes sometimes the opinions can be intimidating but I’ll always be truthful!
Iosie...The Best foods in Asia vs The best foods in Europe , North & South America, Africa, Australia & NZ.😋😋😋
I think Asia might win every time…
You're gonna need a chendol redemption. In a proper Nyonya restaurant in Melaka. They are the only ones that can make cendol properly
I've lived in Vietnam for over 4 years and I don't like a lot of Vietnamese food, I like strong flavours such as Indian curries - that's just my taste. Of course its fine for others to like different things, people shouldn't be getting upset about it. Opinions and taste make the world go around.
This comment is where it’s at 🙏🏻😂 I’m with you! I’m loving Indian curries since being in Malaysia! Thank you for this 😊😊😁
I love the Penang cendol i.e. the original cendol. The Malaccan cendol is a modified version to cater for tourists 😊
I thought it would be not traditional!
I wonder if they use coconut milk? It looks like Indonesian cendol, and we use coconut milk too. The ingredients might differ from region to region
I love milo ais too.. however, my favorite drink is teh ais !!
No way!!! Haha I do like teh ais! But milo is the best of all 🫶🏻🫶🏻😍😂😂😂
The one that u hv in melaka is not original, they already add all other fruits and ice cream. The cendol in penang is the original type, its serve with shreaded ice, coconut milk ( in Malaysia they call it Santan) brown sugar (we called it Gula Melaka) and the green thing that u call it green noodle is actually a mix flour and pandan colour that call it Cendol.
If there's local there it's good... But for locals.. if there's Chinese que up.. it's very good 😄 somehow.. they always know wuts good 😄
Hahaha 😂
Team Milo!!! But also team sirap bandung!! If you haven't tried, defo give it a shot xx
Oooh I should try it
@@josieliftsthings absolutely! I see you’re in Indonesia now. I reckon they have it there too😃
I am from Melaka but I preferred Penang Cendol.
Thanks Alfred!! 😁😁
Yeap food wise, Malacca is unbeatable.
Popiah / Lumpia / Spring Rolls / Egg Roll...
The Melaka version is Blasphemy... there I said it...
For me, as a local living here in Penang, that cendol dessert is overrated. You can skip it next time when you are in Penang. 😀
What is the best drink dessert then. I am planning to visit Penang next year
Honest is the best 👍😊❤️🇲🇾 every cendol stall have different taste, i only like cendol stall at my house to be honest, not very brave to try at any other stall, im afraid i dont like it and waste it🤭🤭😁❤️
Thank you!
Howabout take ferry and cross over to Butterwoth and exploring seberang perai
Honesty is the best policy
I completely agree 🙏🏻🫶🏻
Good to be honest no one is going to be upset rather than some being so faked. I love your channel 💕.
Thank yooouuu
As a Malaccan, I love the food in Penang, but I personally like the nyonya cendol in Melaka more 🙈 personal opinion though! No hates 🙈
We love a personal opinion around here! Hahaha thank you for sharing yours 🙏🏻🙏🏻🫶🏻😁
You cant go to Penang without trying Nasi Kandar! hehe enjoy
Wow
It’s really OK not to like some Malaysian dish or the one from any particular vendor. Even we ourselves disagree with each other’s taste. For example I’m from the East coast so mamak food culture like the famous nasi kandar is just so-so for me but give me nasi kerabu nasi padang or Thai food anyday.
I see! Diversity of opinions is so important I think! But luckily I like MOST things I’ve had in Malaysia!
have u tried nasi ganja?
Any plan to come over Malaysian Borneo? Oz Oz Oz, Ooi Ooi Ooi !
Stay tuned!! 😉 put the notification bell on so you don’t miss it 😉 🔔 😁😁
Finger crossed🤞🏼. I'll see you guys in KK Sabah.
What's up Josie! 3rd 🤭
Hi Walt!
Love milo ice?
Then you should try milo tabur.
I think I have too! 😍
i think in malacca is ABC = air batu campur .... and in penang is cendol... it different
maybe that modern cendol at melaka
@@sirbobhatethenumberyoutubegive in malaysia if u have ais-cream as topping is ABC . it also desert that famous in Malaysia.... cendol must have melaka sugar dan coconut cream + cendol
I do believe that the variation of foods that we had throughout the whole Malaysia even though it’s the same name is to cater the local taste bud. You are allowed to have your own opinion on food just like everyone else.
Yea that makes sense!
Yes another video but i missed it :(
It’s ok you got there eventually!
I like it as long as I can eat it.
😂😂😂😂
👍🏻👍🏻
Welcome to 🇮🇩Josie
I like this one better, the cendol. 😊
It was definitely different! Thanks for watching!
Most malaysian prefer original cendol becoz original taste have memories in it
That’s a good reason to love something! 😁😁😊
Penang is the food haven?
That’s what I’ve been told!
Thank you! Yes I think different opinions is important!
First first first!! 😂🎉
Wow my cute lil milo badge 😊
Hahahaa one of my first channel members! I hope you like your little milo 😉 😂🫶🏻

The Popiah has too little sauce or gravy. Shld HV more sauce
Twrima ksih fotcoming🤎
I’m totally aware the melaka cendol is a variation which is why I mentioned the “new version” v “original version” in the video, (Probably didn’t use the right words for that though for the confusion) 😂
But the melaka one was from a place called Cendol so 😂.
We definitely tried all of them! (Off camera though) hokkien mee was my favourite 😂
I added pepper but no soy sauce because I can’t have it. But I learnt this from having it in Singapore when I ate it 😁😂
All delicious food though! And I appreciate your respectful comment 🫶🏻🫶🏻
@@josieliftsthings oh and you must try Pasembur and the otherworldly Penang Fruit Rojak!!!
Oh YES!!! Haha thank you! 😂😁🫶🏻
