Kampung Baru is one of the last traditional Malay kampungs in KL abt 400 hectar. The value of these land abt USD2.5 bilion (RM13 bilion) very expensive bcoz located at prime area that is KLCC. The govt and developer never dare to develop this area due to too expensive and problem too many land owners inheritence since the last 200 years. One piece of land there ie 1 hectar might probably have 400 owners make difficult for Land Office to trace all these owners. Some more most of the owners refuse to sell it as to preserve Malay heritage in the heart of KL for generation to come to see kampung in KL.

Nice! Ya these guys are awesome! They've showed me so many 'firsts'. Do people also have Nasi Lemak as a midnight snack? Lol I feel like if I woke up hungry that would put me right back to sleep!
@@WhereisBradI just want to share with you and Chris a little story of mine. Two decades ago, I have to endure harsh hardship and a very tight budget. A RM1 nasi lemak bungkus (wrapped in banana leaf) was all the meal I have for a day. It may sound irrelevant but the RM1 nasi lemak was my hero of the day, my savior throughout my hardship. C'est la vie. 😀
@@WhereisBradYes, you can definitely have nasi lemak for a midnight snack or meal. Nasi lemak is good anytime of the day, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, supper. A nasi lemak bungkus (a basic nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf) is a good for a snack, and a nasi lemak with side dishes like fried chicken or chicken rendang would be good for lunch or early dinner. 😀
You are right about "tempeh" (fermented soybeans) in the beginning of the vlog. Here in Malaysia, we like to slice it thin and fry it. Congratulations on your first try of nasi lemak which loosely translated means "fatty rice" bcoz the rice is cooked in coconut milk with lemongrass, galangal or ginger, pinch of salt and some throw in halba (fenugreek). The basic NL is rice, cucumber, sambal, boiled eggs, anchovy and fried gound peanuts. Over the years, it has evolved to include chicken/beef rendang (or fried), sotong (squid) and even prawns.
@@WhereisBrad I think it would be awesome if you could vlog a cooking video. You can follow youtuber Che Nom, a cook on local cuisine on how to cook NL. I'll watch it!
usually people eat regular nasi lemak thats a rice, anchovies, fried peanut, egg, sambal 'the red sauce' but when we have more money thats when we order with add on like fried chicken, curry, or a fish and beef with it

No way?! That's a good pro-tip! I was glad to enjoy my first Nasi Lemak surrounded by all the locals, but will consider the "cool" room next time! Thanks!
Mmm....looks yummy, Nasi Lemak seems to contain more protein and less carbs, ideal for anyone I suppose. Yes I remember Chris said that he could live with it. Good to see you all three.
Hey Brad! Love to see you try out the nasi lemak there. The food at wanjo is not so bad. The only problem there is the staff especially the one who's taking the food for you. Is it so hard to smile? Even if you can't speak english so well, just give them a smile. That's all. I work in f&b as well. It is really tiring but yea, work is work. Try to have fun at work and try to have fun while serving the customers. Don't spoil Malaysia's good name. Lain kali senyum ye kakak and adik kat wanjo tu. Kalau tak suka customer datang kedai awak, jangan kerja situ. Duduk belakang kat dapur basuh pinggan. Buat malu je muka tak reti nak senyum langsung. Peace ✌🏻✌🏻
Ya, I know what you mean, but I also try to appreciate them allowing me to film. I know it can be uncomfortable when someone walks up with a camera. Who knows. All I know is the food was amazing and I had a great first Nasi lemak! I will be having many many more🔥
Nasi Lemak is like the best stuff you can eat in Malaysia cause it is so customisable. You can add, Chicken, Fish, veggies, harshbrown, and eat it with heaps of Sambal on the rice.
@@WhereisBrad You should try with the Squid/cuttlefish sambal. Or with Prawn Sambal as well. Each time i head to Malaysia, I always stay in a hotel, that has Nasi Lemak on their Breakfast Buffet Menu.
Eat with the spoon not fork. Fork hold the meat cut with spoon n scoop the rice n meat with the spoon. In Asean, we used fork n spoon not fork n knife.
Milo is from Australia but the one available in Malaysia hv different sugar, milk n coco ratio.. Australian Milo is bitter as it has higher coco ratio.. Malaysian one is more balance in taste.. thats why many Southeast Asian people travelling to Malaysia will buy Milo in bulk to take home to their country..
You just know when the person is really giving out positive energy and vibes around him.. and Brad is one of them.. Definitely getting the “Respectful and Kindness” vibes which literally sneak past our mobile phone screen everytime.🤜🏻 Brad, you’re gonna be a very respectful person and a great RUclips persona. ❤
Nasi lemak literally exists in Singapore & Indonesia too, so it is actually a regional dish. I would say that the inspiration may have come from Kiribath, which is native to Sri Lanka 😊...btw we do not use knives when we eat...and the rendang is purely optional....
Yes there are many variations and styles to Nasi Lemak and how to eat it. You do you Brad. As long as you enjoy the taste with good company 👍 I personally enjoy seeing you learning new experiences in Malaysia 🇲🇾
When do you want to eat again or repeat “nasi lemak wanjo” you must try add a side dish bergedil (malay word) or perkedel is indonesian word for this patty. Bergedil are delicious fried potato patties with a meltingly soft middle that is a popular side dish in Malaysia, Indonesia , singapore and Brunei. Many reviews say it’s good there.
Fork & spoon are the norm especially whenever you're eating rice dishes. If the meat is not easy to cut with a spoon we'll just pick it up and take a bite. That's how we roll :)
Back in the days, farmer use to eat nasi lemak in the morning and they need the energy to farm the whole day. typical nasi lemak has boiled egg, coconut rice, cucumber, fried peanut and sambal(spicy sos). You can also add ayam redang, squid and whole other stuff as additional. Originally Nasi lemak is wrap in banana leaf. Now days we just eat it all the time at every hour coz it is so good. haha... WANJO in kampung baru is famous because its a popular tourist spot. They are thousand small and delicious nasi lemak spot all over malaysia and some in my opinion is so much better then wanjo, and they are cheaper too. They usually open from 6am -11am in the morning only. At least the good ones hahaha. and YES that is TEMPEH..
I've been seeing those banana leaves! Some say breakfast, some say all day! Not sure what to believe... but I know I could have it anytime! So delicious!
I've heard of #1 and will go for sure! #2 and #3 I've heard mention of and will have to check them out! I want to do a much longer trip all over Malaysia, so thanks for the suggestions!
I think if you're not into spicy food, you should try Nasi Kerabu with smoked beef, it's so good. There's some noodles that worth trying too like Char Kuew Tiaw, either chinese or malay version.
It's so much different kg bahru I used to live there for 10 years. Back late 90's. And now so much different. But that nasi lemak is different cooked. We called kukus nasi lemak. Or they steam the rice. Is been there since early 90's. And now his restaurant so much different. There is porridge restaurant along that street but selling at night but not sure if still there or not. It's famous in 90's. Porridge plain and u can add other dishes that they offer to eat tgt with the porridge. Maybe one day I will check it out that place which is my friends trying to avoid because the traffic is so bad there.
@@WhereisBrad usually the Malay and Indian will use hands to eat while we Chinese seldom do that. We use fork and spoon. Don’t you think using the spoon to scoop rice is much easier than fork 😅🤭
@raymondng18 lol yes!!! My Thai wife is always making fun of me for using a fork, but it’s a habit because that’s what we do in the US! I’m actively reshaping that habit 😂 lol
Wanjo is a clean restaurant but a bit overrated. The thing I dislike the most is there's no peanuts served which is "a must" for Nasi Lemak and the employees look a bit stiff and hardly smile. I prefer to eat at Nasi Lemak Kak Chuk (in your video at 4:58 from where you stand, it's about 50 metres walk from the junction) which has better taste and way cheaper. Should try it in your next visit to KL. And the way to eat in Malaysia is by using spoon to scoop the rice, not fork. And spoon also act as a knife to cut the meat to smaller portion 😅
You should visit Genting Highland before you go back😄, it's located on top of mountain of about 1800m+, and about 30 minutes driving distance from Kuala Lumpur.
Hai Brad. If you want to no about Malaysia you can visit Muzium Negara the ticket so cheap And Tugu Negara no need ticket also you can Jalan2 in Perdana Botanical Garden in kL, Dataran Merdeka and Pasar Seni(Central Market)✌️
Welcome. But if you still in kL you can try Nasi Kawin Hari-Hari(only can eat in Malay Wedding ceremony only) is in jalan Bukit Bintang. You May Love it.
Nasi Lemak is our national dish, actually. Of course we have other traditional cuisines like Asam Laksa, Roti Canai, Nasi Kandar, Nasi Kerabu etc. but Nasi Lemak is definitely #1. It is traditionally eaten as breakfast but now it's becoming a trend for restaurants to include Nasi Lemak on lunch and dinner menu as well! Anyway Solo mentioned before that his favorite Malaysian food is Nasi Kerabu. Definitely pester him nonstop to take you to try Nasi Kerabu because I promise it'd be worth it 100% !! Also quick vocab: "Nasi" means rice, "Goreng" means fry/fried, "Mi" means noodle. some common words for your indicators in your Malaysian food journey~
also did u know that the sambal have varies taste among the chinese, malay, indian type of nasi lemak?.. i think ichang recent video cover ..malay usually abit more spicy vs the chinese/indian type of sambal..hopefully u get to taste it..
I like to have my white rice untainted 😂 so I would just scoop a little bit of sambal, little bit of chicken with the rice in spoon or with my hands and eat it. But for some dishes like chicken soup I will definitely drown my rice in it, but not with other stew like curry though. I think that way I could appreciate more the individual taste of the dishes when I eat it. That's why I don't prefer Nasi Kandar at all because it's just drown in multiple types of curry 😅
I see! I actually had Nasi Kandar recently too. I'll be totally honest, Nasi Kandar is my fav, I liked it better than Nasi Lemak. I think I'm a sauce guy!
Brad, there is an air-cond room opposite on the other side and you have to pay a ringgit for the service, if the heat bother you. Oh, another thing is Malaysians don't use forks and they cut all their food with fork and spoon . . . LOL. I am a Malaysian living in California and going home once a year . . .
Nice! Yes I'll definitely use the AC room for sure. haha and totally will use my fingers to enjoy how the locals do! I need to break my rice+fork habit! so many people gave me shit for that haha.
Wanjo is the best place for visitor's introduction to nasi lemak. After that they can venture off to other nasi lemak joints and see if it fits their palates.😁

@@WhereisBrad You should try with the Squid/cuttlefish sambal. Or with Prawn Sambal as well. Each time i head to Malaysia, I always stay in a hotel, that has Nasi Lemak on their Breakfast Buffet Menu.
@@sivaramlord9151 oooh that’s a great suggestion!! Thank you! I didn’t think of that!
Uguys should try Village Park Nasi Lemak, their fried chicken is so so good! 🤤
Oh okay! Thank you!
Eat with the spoon not fork. Fork hold the meat cut with spoon n scoop the rice n meat with the spoon. In Asean, we used fork n spoon not fork n knife.
I see! Trying to break my western habits!!!
here and subbed from chris channel love the videos u seem really down to earth
Thanks a lot! Chris is the best!
He’s shown me around and taught me a lot. And he’s super cool to kick it with!
Thank you for the video, Im enjoying the vide. Watching from Marudi Sarawak
Awesome I’m glad!! Thanks for watching! Marduk Sarawak, searching google maps now 😁
Milo is from Australia but the one available in Malaysia hv different sugar, milk n coco ratio.. Australian Milo is bitter as it has higher coco ratio.. Malaysian one is more balance in taste.. thats why many Southeast Asian people travelling to Malaysia will buy Milo in bulk to take home to their country..
Oh wow that’s interesting!
Wow. Comments like these really make my day! Thank you so much for the super kind words! These really motivate me to keep going! 🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰

Nasi lemak literally exists in Singapore & Indonesia too, so it is actually a regional dish. I would say that the inspiration may have come from Kiribath, which is native to Sri Lanka 😊...btw we do not use knives when we eat...and the rendang is purely optional....
Oh very interesting! Never knew that
Yes there are many variations and styles to Nasi Lemak and how to eat it. You do you Brad. As long as you enjoy the taste with good company 👍
I personally enjoy seeing you learning new experiences in Malaysia 🇲🇾
Thank you! 🙏 I can’t believe how many versions there are! It’s going to take me a while to really figure out what I like best
Brad, when you decide to visit Sabah or Sarawak, I can connect you with my friends.
That would be awesome!! You (or they) can always hit me up on IG!
you should come to kelantan, many cheap food and delicious😍should try nasi kerabu too🥰
People have been telling me to come there! It’s on my list! Nasi kerabu, first time hearing about it! I’ll sell it out, thank you!!🙏
When do you want to eat again or repeat “nasi lemak wanjo” you must try add a side dish bergedil (malay word) or perkedel is indonesian word for this patty. Bergedil are delicious fried potato patties with a meltingly soft middle that is a popular side dish in Malaysia, Indonesia , singapore and Brunei. Many reviews say it’s good there.
Oh good suggestion!!! I’ll try that next time!
It’s nice to see you guys together. great combos. 3 beard men 🎉
Hahahahha total coincidence. Thank you very much! 🙏
Fork & spoon are the norm especially whenever you're eating rice dishes. If the meat is not easy to cut with a spoon we'll just pick it up and take a bite. That's how we roll :)
I think using my hand is the way to go! Next time :)
That’s interesting and makes sense! I def need to try some other places! Thanks for all the info! Helps me learn!
Good Video Sharing❤😊👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much!!
Nasi Lemak is actually for breakfast & it is cover with banana leaves .
I've been seeing those banana leaves! Some say breakfast, some say all day! Not sure what to believe... but I know I could have it anytime! So delicious!
i hope you will go to 1.Genting Highland 2.Cameron Highland 3. Bukit Tinggi 4.Fraser Hill😊
I've heard of #1 and will go for sure! #2 and #3 I've heard mention of and will have to check them out! I want to do a much longer trip all over Malaysia, so thanks for the suggestions!
@@WhereisBrad no problem bro…enjoy your day’s in Malaysia🥰👍🏻
@@RulessPro Thank you so much!
I think if you're not into spicy food, you should try Nasi Kerabu with smoked beef, it's so good. There's some noodles that worth trying too like Char Kuew Tiaw, either chinese or malay version.
Those all sound good. I've had and loved Kuew Tiaw. BUT, I actually LOVE spicy foods! Like extreme spice!
Oh wow very interesting! I haven’t tried porridge in Malaysia yet!
Im a Malaysian , but I don't eat with hands .. I use spoon for rice and fork and spoon to tear some meat apart
Okay I gotcha, 🙏 thanks
Milo & Nesquick are in the same company, Nestle, from Switzerland..but Nesquick from Switzerland & Milo from Australia...
Ahhh interesting! Thank you!!🙏
We don’t use fork and knife to eat nasi here but fork and spoon or just use your bare hand 😅😂
Ah okay. I saw other people doing that. I’ll use my hands like the locals next time for sure!!
Okay I’ll try that place sometime! Thanks for the directions! I need to break my western fork habits! Lol
bro thats my school right at the back where you standing at the entrance.. 1987. nasi lemak was just MYR 0.20 cents malaysian... convert that..
Omg, that’s $0.04. Haha four cents that’s crazy!!!
U can always order ur drink with no or less sugar...they wl make it for u...
Nice good to know. In recent years I've somehow become a "sweets" guy, especially for drinks! lol, I might ask for EXTRA SUGAR 🤣
You can also try the Neslo Ice drink. Very tasty.
Oooh okay!
Nice 👍 delicious Nasi Lemak
Soooo delicious
You should visit Genting Highland before you go back😄, it's located on top of mountain of about 1800m+, and about 30 minutes driving distance from Kuala Lumpur.
That place looks awesome! I’ll go there for sure!!👍
Its good to see your trying the nasi lemak for the 1st time bro
I tried it and I loved it!!😍
U should try squid sambal... i like it so much
I’ve heard about that! I’m a big seafood guy so that sounds amazing!🤩
Brad welcome to our malaysia country hopee you enjoying vac trip in malaysia

Welcome. But if you still in kL you can try Nasi Kawin Hari-Hari(only can eat in Malay Wedding ceremony only) is in jalan Bukit Bintang. You May Love it.
wanjo nasi lemak got air conditioned section. And next time you should try bergedil, tempe, paru (nasi lemak condiments)..
What is bergedil ? Oh condiments, I haven’t tried any yet except sembol
@@WhereisBradbergedil is a flavor-packed fried potato patty, give it a try~
@@kapk Oh okay sounds bomb!
Haha okay I will! Nice that’s super helpful thank you!!
Nice to watch you guys. You all are just super cool 😎👍👌
Thanks a bunch! Solo and Chris are seriously so fun! And amazing tour guides!
Saya baru pergi baru baru ni 👍. Nasi lemak wanjo
It was so good! I need to try all the variations now lol!😂
also did u know that the sambal have varies taste among the chinese, malay, indian type of nasi lemak?.. i think ichang recent video cover ..malay usually abit more spicy vs the chinese/indian type of sambal..hopefully u get to taste it..
I hope to try them all! I didn't realize there were so many different versions!
Greater KL encompassing KL and Selangor states pop abt 18 mil with 100 super modern super advanced. Pls xplore all
Interesting! I definitely plan to explore all over Malaysia! Loving every inch!
Should try
restaurant: village park
nasi lemak with their signature fried chicken
you will regret if missed out
Oh okay. A few people have named that place. (*Adds to list*) thank you!🙏
I like to have my white rice untainted 😂 so I would just scoop a little bit of sambal, little bit of chicken with the rice in spoon or with my hands and eat it.
I need to break my rice+fork habit! so many people gave me shit for that haha.
nice mr brad love Malaysian food
Thank you!!! Yes I love it so much!!! I’m eating way too much!
Wanjo is the best place for visitor's introduction to nasi lemak. After that they can venture off to other nasi lemak joints and see if it fits their palates.😁
Nice good advice!
Nasi lemak Wanjo! Such an institution in Kampung Bharu.
I’m glad the guys introduced me to that place! It was so delicious!
Brad Solo and Chris, y'all are too nice. So much different than americans in the movies. Haha
Hahaha thanks a bunch!
