Stay tuned for more crazy!
Literally losing sleep right now it's 1 am and I've been watching paint touch up videos and doing research since 10 pm and this is just for my 2016 Toyota Corolla lol
Ha, ha... Don't stress too much. It's part of the game.
I spent a couple of hours last Sunday and ended up ordering a Dr. Colorchip kit for my 2018 Mazda MX-5. It appears to be the best method to fill in chips. The other options are touch-up paint, sanding and polishing and/or getting panels repainted, which in this day and age is expensive!
Man I really feel for you;
Thanks for showing us how to use the color chip application.
I have a blue scirocco R and even then I get depressed when I see a stone chip on my bonnet or bumper. I think I would cry if I had a gt3 and I got a stone chip.
You can always get the front end of you car resprayed after a few years of driving.
I love your car, thanks for sharing your car experiences with us.
Cheers from Australia.
Really nice job there. I know what you mean freaking on the rock chips. I always wanted to make a temporary see trough braw so when you're done at the track you can remove and go back to show car quality.
+Devo dar I bought this stuff, but haven't given a real try yet.
www.roadwarriorplus.com/
Ih, and also, the best applicator is a sewing needle or safety pin, build the paint slowly until flush, polish and drive! :)
If you use a white or similar colored polish it will be in the chip. Unless you be real careful and keep touching up the spot till you build the paint. Like just a mill above the paint on the car. Let it dry over night or for a good couple hours in the right tempeture then you can wet sand and polish to perfection and you won't see the chip. But to do this to everyone is time consuming.
Just bought new Cayanne, already 2 chips on the door very annoying, might purchase dr colorchip, nice cars man I respect what have you done for yourself.
I have a Porsche too, they're the WORST when it comes to chips because of the car's front, since its low, it gets peppered a lot
obsessed garage at 13:46 on polishing I would say don't do it! I bought a used 2017 truck and 3 months in to ownership I decided to clay bar then wax, the clay bar exposed the road rash on the front hood that I didn't see when I bought the truck. real tiny chips that can only be seen at night in the garage under bright light, heck my fingernail couldn't even catch on them. Idk if it was dr. colorchip but it was some kind of paint correction that the clay removed.
For what its worth I did a clear bra when I first got my car. Entire front end, entire hood , both quarter panels, 8 inches on roof and behind rear wheels. Looks perfect and completely undetectable--you want someone who is an artist to install it. It doesn't yellow on a colored car, will be most noticeable on white. You should get 5 years with it. My GT3 is Guards Red. Mine cost 2,800 bucks. When you remove it-paint is perfect.
ERIC DAVIS +1 I have the 3M clear film on my car and love it. As crazy anal as this guy in the video is I would highly recommend some kind of clear film for his GT3. I have seen it on an Enzo and a McLaren in Irvine, CA at Cars & Coffee. You could not even tell there was clear film on those cars. It's all about the installer and finding a top shelf one. This guy will get more paint chips as time goes by and he's gonna wish he did some kind of clear film in the end.
hmc2s I'm with you. I'm not opposed to doing it. I just choose not to for various reasons.
Matt Moreman In the end it's your car and a very beautiful car it is indeed.
great video you inspired me to do this to my mercedes benz!
Thank you. Great video.. about to do my 911..
btw - I can tell you’re an insanely clean and organized dude..former military?
No man. I wanted to go to the Naval academy, but my fear of blood scared me away.
Hey Matt, What do you have planned for the next few videos ? Was also wondering how you got on with the Geon window treatment ? Better than Wolfs ?
mark caughey I have to finish my "bio" series. I have another new exhaust coming for the GT3 to test. I have to test the Gyeon stuff. I have an epic audio system coming for the GT3 that I'm installing myself. I have to do reviews on my cars. Etc, etc, etc.
Don't rub it in or massage it like you are. You put the paint next to the chip and swipe it across the chip and let dry. then step 2
Matt do i remember you saying your friend was coming over with his Porsche you was going to do some Paint correction on.. Is this still happening? Can't wait for more Paint correction videos..
P.S you should make some sort of Public Twitter/Facebook page where you can keep us updated with what you are up to?
ryan1540 +1 for an update page, great idea
ryan1540 That's the plan.
Hey Matt-
Have you tried the Carpro products?? I think they are the absolute best!! Have you tried their hydro2 lite or reload?? Was curious what you thought of their products. Their products make your car 100% hydrophobic.
+Ross Lesser I've been using Perl and Eraser for a while. I just got Hydro2, Reload, and HydroFoam for Christmas.
+Matt Moreman What is perl and eraser?
+Dark Man www.carpro-us.com/wheels-tires-and-trim-care/carpro-perl-1-liter-32oz/
www.carpro-us.com/compounds-polishes/carpro-eraser-500ml-17oz/
Thank you sir
That's a beautiful car and color
Thanks!
Yes I lost sleep to a new chip on my hood, car guys understand
you do realize you can get a ceramic coating over the clear film its looks better try c quartz finest
No it doesn't.
Is the stuff your using better than genuine Porsche touch up paint?
Using touch-up paint is much more involved process.
That's like a little bottle of DX-330!
its not 1000 anything what are you talking about you just do the nose and call it a night. Do it. Its great.
Do you have any close ups of the before and after? Just curious.
I don't. The chips were so small and subtle that the before and after didn't look any different on camera.
Thats a beaut' man.
😎
What is the car color ?
Sapphire Blue
Nice video...except it's SiliCON Valley...not "SiliCONE Valley " ;)
Pointless without showing the "after"
Sweet six gaming There is nothing to show.
Ah ok, i thought you fixed some paint chips in this video. Seeing before the repair and after the repair would be much more helpful. Regardless that is one beautiful car and awesome shop you have :)
damn adamlz rly busted up your car
This was over a year ago.
Chips, damage etc. remind you that nothing last forever and to enjoy the time you have. Granted, I can be OCD at times and I actually enjoy laboring over my car, but sometimes you have to let some things go. Cars are meant to be driven. So long as you approach damage and wear from a maintenance perspective as opposed to a 'pristine at all costs' outlook, then have fun. It's all part of the car loving experience!
+ALT3REDB3AST I agree!
Just hearing you say this makes me feel alittle better about my car. Just drive them enjoy them and I guess fill the chips as they come. Haha
I have to do the same, it consumes me at times
That's a great philosophy for not bothering to wax, seal nor coat a paint finish just the same. This concept also makes me think about how brake pads wearing down to the metal also reminds us nothing last forever. Yet, I would do my due-diligence to take care of my expensive car's brakes even though this concept invokes deeper thoughts about life, the age of the universe and my own mortality....
The bottom line is that PPF/clear bra isn't a good fit for everyone. Just like coatings. Just like "bothering" to even wash a car(for MANY people). Different folks, different strokes. No way is the best way for everyone. But arguing(just speaking in general and isn't directed at anyone) a point about why our own subjective opinion is the best is like arguing why our favorite color is the best.
Being a person who pays my bills by installing PPF, I will leave this one bit for the public's consumption:
My focus is not to twist a client's arm to the point of investing in PPF. It's to answer their questions ethically and accurately, educate them on how it performs, it's limitations, cost and options. Once a client has been educated they can decide for their self if it's the right fit or not. It would be nice if more people saw and respected an individual's opinion the same way on the topic of car care and life in general instead of insisting everyone agrees with them.
Best regards,
ALT3REDB3AST exactly I would be the same always worrying about chips and be pissed but like you said it's part of being a car lover just have fun and enjoy and than fix what ever it is.
Damn !!!!!! That Porsche is so beautiful !!!
Ray Rocco It's more the color. Beautiful color. The design of the car is boring and dated typical of most German cars.
Matt Moreman We didnt get to see the finish :(
Exactly. I want to see the results!!
Thanks for letting us know. 3 minutes of listening to this guy was more than enough. He never shuts up and gets to the point.
Hey Matt, sucks about the chips.. I think the car is ruined lol. Might as well give it to me and get yourself a 2016 LOL.
In all seriousness though a GT3 is made to be driven hard, and thus will get chips. Otherwise why even get a GT3 in the first place ;).
That happened to me when I decided to drift my car on dirt/gravel, got my quarter panel and wheel chipped pretty bad, definitely a lot worse that yours, needless to say I did toss and turn in bed that night!
This video is worthless as you don't do a close up to show the process with that 2nd step. I have no idea what that is or how this works. Thier web site is terrible and I can't figure out what is so great about Dr Colorchip if it's just touch up paint and a latex glove. I have both of those already. What are you really getting for $70?
Your garage must be the neatest garage Ive ever seen...lol
lol this is EXACTLY the way I have felt about clear bras for sometime now. I have recently however purchased a new black car (swore I wouldn't again) and am seriously considering it now.
love the blue on that!
good videos man keep em coming
Matt try use a 3m paint defender clear bra spray. It least for a year and it doesn't leave that plastic look effect
scyzoryk24 This is a good idea to use on say a trip where you expect some chips, and then you can remove it afterwards.
Your just like me. One chip and I want to sell the car. And I've done it! Now my GT350 is coming in and hearing the paint is thin and many people getting chips. Oh man.
mustangscotty24 very thin, it almost peels off clear bra is a must on it
Hahaha, so many of us are like you, one chip and now car is not kosher anymore. So sell it lol
U need to get ppf on the entire car lol.
My man, you are not the only one losing sleep believe me. Wish I could say just get over it it's just a thing, it's just a car. But I'm the same, as are a lot of folks. I have a 2019 Tiguan with some chips that literally no one could notice. But I knew they were there. Dr Colorchip did the trick and made things invisible just like yours. Great video. I feel your pain. We'll be alright though.
I've used it too. I really like the results, especially for my car being that it's far from perfect paint. I'm due to buy another kit when spring comes around. BTW, I have polished over my previous Dr. ColorChip repairs and they have not been compromised from it so far.
some close up after shots would’ve been nice 👍
I know that feeling as a student, i work hard besides studying, so i could buy my seat ibiza that i love so much, its just 3000€ but i get still the same feeling when i see a little scrap, dent, chip hit. I cant sleep the whole night or week xD so i dont want to know how it would be if i owned a porsche just like you, i wouldnt even drive it on german streets i bet haha
I was thinking about buying the Dr. Colorchip kit for my vehicle. Seeing that you use it, solidifies my decision.
Dude they have the best Porsche ever made on Ebay the 2011 GT 2 RS 620 H.P. Twin Turbo all factory untouched nice silver 5,000 miles but it's 389,000 that's the car you should get. You don't see those often they only made 500 of them. They also have two GT 3 RS's there 389,000 but there insane two with only 500 made. And just evil looking withe the grills in the front fenders one is orange and the other is white hurry up!!!
Nice video. Your voice is not boring to me, just relaxed. Thanks for providing more info on the Dr. Color Chip process. BTW, very nice garage, although I think I see some serious signs of OCD :). LOL. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Matt if your going to do a lot of car runs... it might be wise to invest in the clear protective film. At least the front clip.
I like your garage that's just what I need I could get a lot of work done in piece lol
Beautiful GT3. Still working towards a 911... thanks for the video. Going out to buy some for the 335i.
Hahaha, I love Silicon Vally!
Excuse me, but with your beloved car, we never saw the transition,
From damaged to 70% good. I take you Video with a grain of salt.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Matt, whenever you want to ever sell any of your collections, just drop me a line.
With all the respect Matt, I don't care how OCD you are, If you wrap the whole car you can't even tell the film is there - the installer though has to be really good! I fully wrapped my carmine gts. No swirl marks anymore, self healing capabilities, doesn't yellow, cleans very easy, car looks like it just came out of the show room every time comes out of my garage. Best $7,500 ever spend and there is no way I could have had it in any other way. And it helps me sleep at night... :) Greetings from Las Vegas.
The sleep at night and can't see it from 10 ft. away I completely agree with. The part that I can't do is dealing with it when I'm washing or finishing the car. It looks like there is plastic on the car. I don't like it.
GT3 RS Nut you have taken trolling to a whole new level. Do I disagree with content on RUclips? Sure, but I keep my comments in my head unless someone is truly causing some detrimental harm to me personally or society. You my friend are taking Matt's opinions wayyy too personally just because you are a fellow Porsche owner. Maybe you should be the one to be shunned from the Porsche community with your hateful, derogatory rants but hey, I'm sure Obsessed Garage is heart broken over your thoughts so keep at it!
7500... when do you start seeing value for your money...
Have you polished over the chip repair? Did it hold up?
A man after my own heart. The Porsche is a beautiful car, but those bottle shelfs make me swoon. My OCD goes wild for that bottle organization. Plus you have multiple of the same... Lol
Foxxtrott1100 not ocd, just a proclivity to organization. Unless he has to have the bottles that way or have panic attack’s and seriously thinking his house might burn down.
This is why leasing a car is better, you drive the car for 3 years, and get a brand new one with brand new paint. Don't have to worry about chips and clear film. I know DRColorChip is pretty good, but later on, you will have more chips. You will fill most of the front of your car with DrColorChip, and eventually it will looks ugly.
What I would do is I would replace the Front Bumper and the Hood , like just buy a brand new one and put them on.
Hey Matt, just looked you up on google to see what you do because you seem to be very successful from all the cars you have. Funny thing is my dad also works for Merril Lynch as a financial advisor in florida and is looking into buying a GT3. Just thought it would be nice to share that info! :D
BlueWingedProduction Also love your videos, they are very detailed!
BlueWingedProduction That's cool man! Where are you guys in FL? Shoot me an email if you Dad would like to chat about GT3s. matt.moreman@gmail.com
Matt Moreman We live in Miami. I'll be sure to give him your email if he has any questions about the car. Thanks!
I got two rock chips on my 2022 trailblazer four months in. And, it drives me crazy, LOL. I can't even imagine getting two on a GT3. Good thing I'm a 30 year model maker and can make a chip look like 90-95% never there. Seriously. Filled, leveled and buffed out. yeah, I'm bragging a little :)
Love Silicon Valley!
Zzzzzzzzz.
You're like how I used to be. No one sees those chips but you. If you're that worked up a/b it, buy gray or silver cars. Much easier to maintain paint-wise. I learned hard way w/ blue and black cars. Also, if they clear the car properly you wont see any lines. Further, you can polish and wax the coating itself.
%70 Good Enough!!!!!???? Shame Matt, Shame!
Without ppf I would not enjoy my car as much because it allows me to not fret over paint damage. I certaintly would not track my car without ppf or track film. As with anything there are good and bad films. I found 3m to be a best.
Speaking of bugs in Florida, PPF would obviate the need to use heavy duty bug cleaner spray. I use detail spray to get bugs off. They usually come off in one pass.
Sleep well, PPF the whole front end and don't forget to coat it with CQuartz...:) Forget all those accumulating road rash chips for good, take the plunge...you can do it!
Man you are crazy about this stuff like i was back in the day. I was the same way i would cover my car after a wash only because i was afraid i would scratch the paint. To change the subject i like those red shelves. Once i get settled in Indiana i am going to setup my garage with swisstrax and some cool shelving. Probably do some paint and i also want to put a huge wooden American flag made out of barrels. I have a vision just like you probably did for your garage.
The OCD you have is going to cause you a lot of stress in your life if you don’t let go of it. Cars these days are disposable. If you want it pristine don’t drive it. If you do want to still drive it have double layers of clear coat put on your car or line X the entire vehicle.
I didn't do the clear bra on my Jag either but if kind of sounds like you should do it :) considering the amount of stress you get from few silly chips. It also sounds like you can't really have enough fun in your car if you have to worry about so many things while driving.
Don't stress to much about the chips man. U can be as careful as you can and at any given time another car might hit you. Some idiot might dent or scratch it bad while your parked somewhere. And than there goes all the carefulness. Drive it and enjoy that nice car.
Larry from AMMO is really good at doing chip repair, but I don't have the time to do that, I was thinking of getting Dr. Color chip, Thanks for the review Matt !
Take it from a vette owner, its part of these low sloped cars.....i know the feeling but we are fortunate to own nice cars to begin with. They r meant to enjoy :)
I just realized I saw this episode years ago b/c of dr colorchip. Fast forward a couple years and I'm subscribed to you and watching all your detailing videos. I guess I hadn't realized what I had stumbled upon lol Just thought that was funny
I want to say that I bet if you take a small hair dryer, and dry the paint after each "smear", then apply second or third or even fourth coats of paint, I bet you could get it flush with the chip.
clear film probably become yellow after 24 months especially if you live in a heavy sunny country due to U.V.
In between what process would you do a Colorchip application if you are doing a paint correction? I plan on doing a one step process with Sonax Perfect finish
Good video.
I’m a real stickler for following directions, especially with a new product. This video shows how forgiving Dr Color Chip is if you don’t follow directions 100%.
I just used this for the first time two days ago....impressive!
There weren’t any chips on the front bumper? I would think that would take the brunt of the damage.
Does Dr. color chip really work ?
Yes, it's decent.
I've read on forums about a temporary film made by Expel of just this situation where someone may only need protection for a road trip. If I remember correctly the price was equivalent to what you paid for your touch up paint. Something to check into for your next GT3 trip.
Chris Ciccone I tried using Road Warrior Plus and didn't like how hard it was to get off the car. I'll look into Xpel.
Matt Moreman I've been told that using a steamer works to get the film off.. I have Xpel ultimate on my 15 M5.. I cannot tell unless you get right up on it. Hood one piece, no seams or lines.. fenders same, no seams.. front clip has some seams, but they are all tucked into corners, etc.. I picked up a chip or two on my trip down from performance delivery in it before I had the bra installed, but it is what it is. I think the clear bra is really worth it because in two or three years I could remove it and back right back to fresh paint.
I decided to remove a section of my Expel due to the fact that I added aftermarket parts. It may have only been a year or so since I had it installed but it came off exactly the way I was told it would by Expel. I had no negative effects on the paint and it polished right up and looked great.
Matt, I would definitely consider it since your the type of guy who typically only keeps his cars a couple of years. I would think It would only help with resale value. You don't have to get the whole thing done at once just start with the nose and see what you think. That was my approach anyway.
Chris Ciccone I agree, but my problem is that I have to see it when it's on the car. And I'm protecting it for the next guy.
I hear yea but when you think about all the time, money, and effort we put into these cars keeping them nice. This can also be looked at keeping it up for the next guy. At least it's a form of stress relief as well as a sense of pride for us!
I put 21,000 miles on my 2015 WRX last year and the entire front end is just littered in rock chips! I have been waiting for a video to demonstrate how well Dr.Color Chip works so now I may just have to give that a try. Subaru paint is just so terrible, it's really soft and scratches easily and it chips like no ones business.
TheRecon4 It's not great, but it does a decent job.
clear braw really does not work. The paint underneath will crush anyway.
Carpro pearl is their tire dressing which can also be used on the interior or exterior rubber trim. Carpro eraser is made and mixed with alcohol to strip and prep the surface for sealant application. It removes all the oils and dust from the vehicle
you put the car cover even in the garage, awesome, this is how we should take care about cars what ever sport car we have...
+Milan Stamatovic There are so many bugs in FL that it's necessary to keep the car clean.
What are you thoughts 3 years later? I noticed some chips in on rear quarter front or rear wheel both sides....assuming from front tires MPS2's. Considering touching up with Dr Colorchip and maybe getting the front, rockers and portion of rear quarter xpel coated. I plan on tracking the car some in the future also. Thanks.
This stuff isn't life changing, but it works reasonably well for what it is.
What a beautiful car. However, I don't think Matt enjoys the car as it is meant to be used and driven. Other than keeping it pristine and garaged without ever driving it will ensure a concourse exhibition car forever, once driven on the road, it will get chips and contaminants.
+Henry Ting Well, I hit 7,000 miles on the car in my first year of ownership. I need to make a video proving it. Ha, ha...
Did you use IPA alcohol or wax remover before applying this paint? I made the mistake of just putting it on right after I washed and dried my car and it didn't last long. I did it again this time taking the wax off and its still holding up
VexingCode My car was wax-free during application, but yes, I would absolutely remove any wax in the chip area.
I've got a few chips in my Titanium Silver 550i that i want to take care of before I put it up for sale. I thought to myself I bet Matt has some good info on the subject so I hopped on the computer and sure enough exactly what I needed. Thanks buddy!!
+Mike Figueira Yes sir.
How long do you have to wait after applying Dr. Colorchip before you can put wax/sealant on it? Also, would subsequent compound/polish remove the colorchip? Thanks.
+yusuihang Sometimes the polish messes it up, but rarely. 5 or 10 minutes should be long enough.
WTH, we get to the entire process but not the finished product...
I have a couple of chips on my car, does the Dr. color chip work pretty good
I have PPF on my car full hood fenders and rocker panels and headlights and mirrors and track my car. The problem is the parts of the car not covered has chips lol. Thanks for posting this video
Didn't PPF the front bumper???
Definitely need something like this. I raced around on the street and collected more rock chips than I am comfortable with. I raced an E92 and I got rock thrown at my rear fender, and its pretty spotty. I want to pull my hair out every time I wash my car and I see this fine grain of pain chips just behind my door! My hood/front bumper? Its a shit show. I was not ready for this (buying a sportier vehicle), but I've learned that I have to protect my baby from others during spirited motoring.
its just battle scars.
You show the up close application, why not the end product?
Would you recommend Dr. Colorchip for road rash? My grill and fenders have spots where it looks like I went to battle against a sand blaster.
It probably won't be very noticeable outside of the larger chips.
Being PCCB's you're not going to do this for a while, but can you please make a video when you finally do a brake job?
A Jovial RUclips commenter Will do.
Should I apply it after done with compound and color correction?
Sir, What about Langka® ?
Did you ever try that system; you can use factory touch up. I've had success using it with a few tiny McLaren paint chips.
Hm... I'll check it out. I've never heard of that system. Thanks for the tip!
fully clean and strip wax before dr color chip ?
i dont get it so you apply the paint and smear it on? does it fill the chip? does the paint harden up to the level of the paint? as in fill the chip? i think a better way to go was the applied colors imo.
mn4a15 You got it. Glob the paint next to the chip, smear it flat into the chip, and wipe the excess off with the SealAct.
Nice video man... but forget the Dr. Color Chip & clear film...what do you do, how do you do it, and how can I get into it?
+Rob Chomicz www.smhwealth.com
Would have been nice if you could have did a before and after.
Silicone Valley is a great show. Did anyone ever tell you, that you look a lot like David Blatt, the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers?
Facemash88 Ha, ha... I've never gotten David Blatt. I think Steve Blake is a better comparison.
