    • @SangheiliSpecOp
      @SangheiliSpecOp 5 лет назад +4

      I can see this from both points of view... But I say that in a broader sense than just talking about cars. Like for certain goods like expensive electronics or other collectible items, I like to have it brand new because scratches or signs of miss use will drive me crazy. When it comes to a car, obviously it's not the best financial decision to buy new plus you never know if the car you are getting is a lemon lol so you can either buy slightly used or very used...
      I totally understand why you traded in your green murci tho, it was a near perfect car and the value was too high and you couldn't really have fun with it because you have to be very meticulous, where as with your current car, since it already had issues and was a lower cost anyways, you can afford to mess with is and spend some money and I guess at that point you know the car isn't perfect anyways so you just feel free to drive it at you please

      Matt has spoken at other times about how debilitating these cycles of panic and irrational fear can be. I wish this video had touched on how offensive it could be to people who truly suffer from compulsive behaviors when they hear so many others claim that their neatness tendencies are "OCD". They likely don't understand the negative effect on life that people who are clinically suffering from compulsive behaviors have to deal with.

    • @elesjuan
      @elesjuan 5 лет назад +8

      @@larryvelezbx I'm REALLY tired of hearing people claim they have OCD because something in their life has to be neat or "just right." To those who claim this; You DO NOT have OCD, and you need to stop pretending like you do. Thinking you have to line pictures on your wall with a laser level is not OCD. Having to wash your hands every 2 minutes, open a door 3 times before going through it, etc is OCD. Not your stupid self-obsessiveness.

    • @rolfthewolf42
      @rolfthewolf42 5 лет назад

      @@larryvelezbx @elesjuan Why would someone with bad clinical OCD be offended by the people who claim to have a little OCD? Just because there is a much worse version of something doesn't mean everyone who claims to have the small version is being offensive. Its okay to say you're depressed if you're a little down in the dumps but don't have deep clinical depression and suicidal tendencies. It's okay to say you're sick if you have a cold and not terminal cancer.

    • @herranton
      @herranton 5 лет назад +2

      @@rolfthewolf42 Because that isn't the definition of OCD. Sure, it is ok to say your sick even if you don't have terminal cancer, _but it is not ok to say you have terminal cancer if you don't have terminal cancer._
      Being a neat freak is usually par for the course with people that suffer from OCD, but it is about the least of your concerns. Being a neat freak isn't ocd. There isn't really such a thing as mild OCD, you either have it or you don't. And chances are, if you are not actually *debilitated* about which order the light switches get flipped in, _you don't have OCD._ If you can put your shoes on when the rug in front of the door isnt lined up exactly like it was yesterday, you don't OCD.
      If you _physically_ can force yourself to take a shower even though you will have an odd number of showers this month, you don't have OCD.
      OCD is when you can't physically do anything else until you correct the fact that there are 7 pens instead of 8 in your pen holder. You can't talk, you can't listen, you can't focus on anything until the problem is fixed. You will go without food, without water, without the bathroom, and at great personal harm to yourself, just to fix the number of pens.
      And nobody with OCD gives a fuck if you call your anal retentive behaviors OCD, even when it isn't. They usually have much bigger problems than some dumb fuck on the internet sounding like, well, a dumb fuck.

    • @blueberrycobbler
      @blueberrycobbler 5 лет назад

      Larry Velez..Well said, Larry. I read comments and hear people throw around the term OCD so often these days and it’s disturbing. You can always tell these people apart from actual suffers by the way they flippantly say they have OCD. Rarely do OCD suffers disclose it unless a situation dictates it. The OCD “posers” also usually don’t know what the “C” stands for and when you ask them what their compulsive behaviors are, they stare at you like a deer in headlights. Granted some people just have the primary obsessive component, but if they did they still would know the difference between the two.

      This is what Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is really like. It's not the "Oh, hey, that damn picture isn't straight again." anal retentive a lot of people call OCD. It's knowing that there is something wrong in the world, knowing that you could never fix that, but feeling compelled to fix it regardless, and spending much of your time obsessing over the issue and trying to correct said issue far beyond what would be reasonable to the detriment of one's life and happiness. He thinks his car is dirty far past the point that most of us would say, "Dude, stop! It's clean." and is compelled to wash that car until he thinks it's clean to his standards.
      BTW, OCD isn't restricted to cleaning. It's just the easiest thing to point to as an example and have people understand it.

      I actually have OCD, unlike those that say they do and don’t because it has become a catchphrase to say because you like things just so..and because of this he would store his vehicles like I do living in New England. It’s a no brainer. OCD infiltrates every part of your everyday living, your clothes, cars, house, personal regimes/care etc. A living hell EVERY DAY. I feel for this guy because it’s physically and mentally exhausting.

Plus I'll drain the batteries in the remote even more. The batteries that already came in the remote prepackaged. How do I know where those batteries have been previously or what they were used for? They could have been used in someone's nose trimmers. I don't know.

    I feel for him. I have OCD and generalized anxiety and it’s a hellish combination. You get anxious but then your ocd makes you unable to get over it even after whatever made you anxious is overwith. You start to over analyze things and replay memories with different perceptions and “what ifs” until you don’t know which memories are real and which are false. It can be really debilitating. For example, I work as a dishwasher and I can’t for the life of me keep up with my coworkers. They’ll fly through a sink of dishes and take a smoke break while I’m still washing mine, and I look like I’m the laziest while I’m actually working the hardest and with the fewest breaks, all the while being mentally tortured.
    I truly feel for this man and I hope he gets the help he needs. I can understand the need for the car to be clean. However, The problem is apparent when he talks about how it bothers him all week at work. That’s the kind of thing that happens to me. I’ll get one thing that bothers me and then it’s in the back of my head for a few weeks or months or whatever.

It rains for 15 mins, and the sun is out for the rest of the afternoon. if we only fixed a day to wash the car, he is probably worried about the contamination that was there since sunday, and only being able to wash it on a certain fixed day, say saturday. But because it just got too much for me, i desided for myself to rinse the car once every week (rinse for me is foam-highpressure wash without contact), and fully wash it once a month (foam, high pressure wash, contact wash, drying, ceramic coating protection, interior). I would do a full wash the day before a carshow also, but don’t fully (contact) wash the car again for a full month

    Man how I love to hear the VINwiki stories. Ok, I actually understand, to a degree, of where my fellow car enthusiast is coming from. I have struggled (to a very tiny extent and in no way comparable to this example ) with OCD my entire life. In my personal struggle, my OCD has made me financially free at one point, broke, and everywhere in between. Unlike the gentleman that feels sorry for you I do not, I congratulate you on taking a serious mental/emotional condition and finding a way to use it to your advantage and make a profit from it. Personally, if I did not have my own little struggle with OCD, I believe I would not be nearly as creative as it turns out that I am. OCD although at times have been a curse it also has been a blessing, giving me the drive to learn, advance, and conquer many of my accomplishments in life. You have a new subscriber and the name "Obsessed Garage" is genius !! I live only 3 1/2 hours north of you in the Panhandle near Panama City Beach. For years I was in Orlando quite often with one of my Dodge Vipers having them worked on or modified for more horsepower. (because you can never have too much HP) You may even know my Tuner and friend Larry Macedo who owned M2 motorsports. He has since moved his shop just Northeast of Orlando but, for many years his shop was located on the OBT of all places tucked away in a metal building, sitting back off the highway, and with a tiny little sign. Even though OBT was not commonplace to find millions of dollars of cars hiding out safely awaiting work to be performed from a simple oil change to a complete twin-turbo being fabricated and installed. You did not find his place by accident, you were sent there and they are great at the kind of work they do. Anyway, Matt keep up the good work and best wishes to you in controlling the OCD and not letting is destroy you. Last I will leave you with a really cool song by an Uber Famous singer's grandson. I am sure you will know who his grandfather was if you ever grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard! Check out Struggle Jennings - "The Struggle is Real" featuring Aaron Lewis from Shinedown...Each and every one of us has a "struggle" or multiple "struggles" with something in our lives, it is up to us to overcome them or be defeated by them. This song along with the artist singing it and his back story, kind of puts all of that into perspective.

After hearing all that and how much of a struggle, emotional drain, and potential problems with family, it’s amazing to me that he finds a way to manage it all. I couldn’t imagine having that level of anxiety come up just from trying to enjoy something you love. Especially with something like a car where so much of it is out of your control. You can’t control the weather, bugs, other drivers etc. That’s just wild. I’ve seen a few of his videos but I never knew that he dealt with all that. Really makes you wonder how he manages to go out and let other people drive his cars, not knowing what they might do to it. Wow.

    I would like to say I can relate to him slightly. When it comes to driving cars, I am always very cautious of minimizing as much wear on the engine, brakes, transmission as possible. I don’t go past half way to redline until oil temperature (oil, not just coolant) are at optimum and even then I will count the amount of times I take the car past half way to redline. I never shift automatic transmissions into drive while still moving in reverse. When it comes to braking, I try to brake as soft as possible (while still being safe) and when exiting a highway at 70+ MPH I will hold the pedal for about 2 seconds then release to let the rotor cool a bit, then press again, and off again to minimize heat buildup even though brakes have cooling veins to handle that kind of thing. I do it anyway. While detailing my own cars, I do everything in my power to prevent swirl marks because after taking 5-10 hours to paint correct a car, I never want to do it again. I also work at my local Audi dealership where I am a porter and it pains me to see the wash methods practiced. I try to use two buckets whenever possible and never reuse a wash mitt or microfiber that has touched the ground. I let go a little more when washing loaner cars because they are not any specific person’s car, yet at least. But in conclusion, I definitely don’t enjoy cars the way some of my friends do! One of my friends has a Hyundai Veloster Turbo and floors the thing 10 seconds after starting it in 5 degree weather!

      Me too. I can't even relate to this guy. I love when it rains. Means I might not have to wash it so soon. As far as deep cleans, once in almost 8 years is my current record. I'm a bit more like Ed. Pressure wash and drive fast for a bit is very acceptable.

    He’s the guy I’d love to buy a car from... he’d shit his pants seeing the car a month later covered in brake dust, bugs, and women’s tit-prints on the hood.

      r324ever so crying on video and putting all your business out there instead of just not worrying about it, he pretty much invited anybody with a problem to ruin him everyday

    It’s incredible how he doesn’t mess with his interior much. I get insane when the glass has prints on the inside windows, dust and pebbles on the carpet.

    To be honest if I was the lowest person on the dealership I would have some fun in the car before someone bought it.

      If you want to be an ass, just send him an email two weeks later telling him that you've hidden a dirty gym sock somewhere in his car. You don't even have to leave one.
