My wife has got the SDI which even without the turbo still seems quite quick. I have a GGTDi 130 I use for Autotest racing. In December it ploughed through the muddy field no trouble whilst Autotesting, where as race prepped Peugeot 205 GTis and Fiesta ST were barely moving in the mud.
I have the Estate SDI, may only have 67 horsepower but they're punchy horses. The only way to make an indistructable engine even more resiliant was to take the turbo off. 67hp going through a block designed for upwards of 130 is a recipe for longevity and reliability. The only reason I want to upgrade to the TDI is that travelling with lots of stuff in the back does start dropping the mileage. Absolute beauty of a car and the ultimate in classic reliability and function.
I have an 02 plate mk4 golf 1.9 tdi se pd130 variant and she has 225k on the clock, just passed mot with no advisories. Bloody love the old girl, indeed a great car as you say. Love the harlequin look too so might play around with mine ;)
The best car I’ve ever had is my MK4 1.9 variant 😄
My dads got a Bora with the same PD130 lump rocking a cool 291,000 miles on the clock. Legendary!
They just keep on truckin 🤠
