    APU start: after fire test, normal APU start is initiated by pushing APU power switch on ELEC panel. Only if that fails to start the APU, try starting with the APU start/stop switch. To switch off APU, after engline start complete, push APU power switch on ELEC again; switch reads AVAIL. This should initiate the APU shutdown sequence.

    NAV (if used for DEP) should be armed during BEFORE TAXI CKL. Arming the AUTOFLT is done as part of the TO SOP, after line-up, with TO clearance received.
    "When aircraft is aligned on RWY,
    PF sets throttles to approximately 70% N1. Verify symmetrical
    thrust.
    When stable, call “Auto flight.” (which is then selected and acknowledged by PM) - this engages Auto-Throttle
    Verify autothrottles advance to T/O thrust. PF call “Check Thrust.” PM verifies and calls "Thrust Set"
    PF keeps
    hand on throttles until reaching V1."
    Autopilot is available above 200ft AAL (or above 400ft AAL, if NAV is used). To engage Autopilot, push AUTOFLIGHT. Push it again, to change over to other Autopilot, if desired. FMA reads AP 1 or AP 2. It will engage in current FD modes.
    Before reaching CLB THR Alt, arm PROF or FLT LVL CHG vertical mode.
    PROF or LEVEL CHANGE is available above 400 feet AGL.
    Selecting either, will cause FMA change from T/O CLAMP to T/O THRUST. This enables automatic acceleration at ACCEL altitude unless another altitude is captured.
    During acceleration, retract flaps and slats on schedule.
    ACCEL ALT is set in FMC
    Speed target is FCP speed - SOP: 250 or Vcl, whichever is higher.
    Altitude taget is FCP Alt. SOP: First "AT/BLW" alt on SID or as assigned by ATC

    The takeoff warning configuration test done when you advance throttles is done with eng 1, and then 2 and 3 advanced at the same time. That's why you don't get the annunciation for 3. 2 and 3 are done together. Also since the MD-11's love their automatic tests, holding the annunciator light test where you get the overspeed annunciated, you hold it longer and it does an automatic air system test. You'll see the message pop up on the 3rd screen in blue. Just a couple of FYIs. This is an excellent tutorial, just bought this today and can't wait to take it on a flight.

      @CaptainMac no problem. I mess with them about every day so i can get them to the runway, literally, but as far as flight plan stuff goes with these, that's where I struggle. I've been waiting for this to come out for a while, glad this tutorial exists. It'll make it SOOO much easier to set up flight plans and see the functionality of the flight plans with autopilot. Also another little fun fact, you can start the APU from the electrical panel instead of the apu panel. If you do it that way, it automatically switches to APU power once it's running.

    Just watched this now after already flying her for quite a bit.
    - There is a page -> button on the CDU, that does the same thing as in Boeing CDU
    - The Fuel used reset is so you know how much fuel you used in that flight. So if you're doing a turn-around, you want to reset that, otherwise it would accumulate fuel used from both flights.
    - QFE is the barometric pressure at Field Elevation, not the same thing as QNH, so 99% of the time you want to use QNH, and even if you use QFE for takeoff and landing, you want to switch to QNH STD (29.92/1013) above transition.
    - Many aircraft will taxi on idle thrust. It's generally underrated how much thrust an engine produces even in idle, and combined with this, how much air it sucks in. Recently, a female ground worker was tragically sucked into an engine running on idle and killed.
    - The Flaps indicators on PFD are "F15" as in: You're slow enough to EXTEND to Flaps 15. To retract, it's FR for Flaps retract (Flaps 0, Slats extended) and SR for Slats Retract (Flaps Up)
    - I never had to manually tune the NAV RAD page, if you select the correct approach, it should know it and auto tune it

    • @Tordan69
      @Tordan69 Год назад

      Sorry for "necro-ing" but just a little bit more info re QFE. Just as Eteokles says, if you set the altitude meter to a QFE setting it should read altitude 0 (zero) when on the ground at the airfield. Setting QNH means that it will show altitude above sea level, or in other words the airfields elevation above sea level. So QFE is very local to a certain airfield. If you use the same setting at another airfield which is at another elevation the instrument will not show zero at ground. This is why the display in the PFD ALSO displays QNH since that is valid for the general area, QFE will/must be different for different airfields in that same area. QFE is from what I know mostly used by glider pilots, but don´t quote me on that. :D
      The major problem with using QFE is that airplanes starting from nearby airfields that then fly at lets say 200ft QFE will actually be at different altitudes ASL. Or worse, if they fly at different heights QFE they may actually be at the same altitude QNH. Not sure if that just confuses the matter. :)

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  Год назад +2

      You're welcome, and thank you for the compliments! Im glad you like it. For your throttles, you have really 3 options...#1 New throttle quadrant (not cheap lol) #2 Map engine 2 and 1 to the same throttle (not the most realistic, but still gives you good control) #3 map the throttle to a button or key (this is a last resort as you don't get good smooth throttle inputs to match the other 2). So, option 1 is best, 2 is decent, and 3 is only if you have no other options. If you vote for option 1, I would highly recommend the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant. Great bit of kit, good price (still not cheap, but good quality), and they don't pay me to say that lol.
