The rolling shutter is really bad on the a74. 26 ms vs 8.7 ms on the ZV-E1. I had the a7s3 and sold it for the a74 as image looks a little sharper. But the rolling shutter made me sell the a74. Reminds me of the Sony a6000 series cameras bad rolling shutter. Pre ordered the ZV-E1 can buy two of these for the price of one FX3. We will see if the production camera with production firmware is better with the overheating. I’m not to worried about it as I record in shorter takes. 3 minutes tops. Also maybe it would be better to get white body version if your filming outside a lot?
As far as a 12mp sensor. What’s the difference between cropping in on a photo, and cropping in on a still screenshot from a 4k video? Currently on my iPhone instead of taking product shots I actually just record it with my video and then whenever I am editing the video I just go frame by frame to find the perfect shot and then I just save that as a still. I’ve always wondered what the difference between doing that, and just taking a photo. Video for me is easier. It seems like cropping in on 4k wouldn’t be bad. But since it’s 12mp maybe there’s no difference.
Simple. A7iv for paid work because dual sd and well rounded. Zv-e1 for vloggers and travel enthusiasts/content creators. I think a7iv wins since you can use it for everything.
If you want a proper camera, get the A7IV. I just bought two of them. One for gimbal video and the other for stills. If you want a high performance compact, get the A7C because it is made of metal, has much better buttons and dials, full size sensor and higher resolution. I bought three of those too for using as B, C and D video camera angles. All for weddings. The ZV-E1 is good for vlogging but even though it seems amazing all around, it's flimsy plastic body and lack of dials and switches will make it a bit awkward for professional use. And no EVF on the ZV-E1 is practically a no no if you intend to shoot stills. There's nothing to beat the stability of sniper shooting with tele lenses by using the EVF and holding the camera properly. It makes me cringe when I see pro stils shooters always using only the screen. It just seems snappy and you know it's not going to be as crisp a shot for camera motion blur. Lastly, the lack of a mechanical shutter is a massive no no for stills in artificial light. The banding is horrendous. It's not as bad sometimes on the A7IV in E-Shutter mode, but I wouldn't ever use that mode for stills. I'm not scared of racking up the shutter count. My current EOS 5D mkIII is getting close to a million actuations and is still going strong.
Main difference I think is that the A74 is a 33meg hybrid; the ZV-1 a 12meg video camera. The A74 can be used primarily for photography with some decent video capabilities. Chose what you need and enjoy it ….😊
The a74 is still the best in its bracket when it comes to hybrid cameras. But I think the ZVE1 is the best video camera focused on its bracket ranked the same as the fx30.
How come you mention 4k 24 and 50 but not 30? Also, I’ve seen somebody complain about the 4K30 files or something. Is there anything to be worried about? I’m a noob over here who is currently recording 4K30 on the iPhone and editing in final cut
Hello, thank you for your video. I would appreciate hearing your recommendation. I'm considering upgrading from my Sony a6400 to a full-frame camera, and I'm facing a dilemma: whether to spend more and get the FX3 or save money and go for the ZV-E1, getting pretty much the same image but with the remaining funds invested in more lenses, etc? I shoot a variety of content, from events to weddings, so my direction is quite diverse. I really want to upgrade and start to make more professional videos, but I’m kinda stuck between these two and don’t know what to choose.
Already have the a7r iv shooting wedding videos with it.. It's very good camera, but not that much of settings that help...... I think the iv is still my Choice for now over zv-e1... What do you think!
The a74 definitely has more of that digital look. Some people enjoy that though so its not necessarily a bad thing. I think if you're a hybrid shooter professional, the a74 is the clear choice. However if you need a camera to shoot RUclips videos and personal projects, the ZVE1 is just objectively the better vide-centric camera
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Let's ask Chat GPT: "The “digital look” in videography is a term that refers to the visual characteristics of video footage captured by digital cameras, such as sharpness, color, contrast, noise, and motion blur. There is no definitive answer to which look is better or more desirable. It depends on the creative vision of the filmmaker, the genre and style of the project, and the preferences of the audience." @@dottorcarlone as a premise, you’re correct. But it’s really not that simple. If it was, these camera companies would be out of business and the filter companies would be gigantic! Haha. But I get what you’re saying. I seen one guy using his A7iv in HD basically. And, I have to say, it looked pretty awesome with a mist filter. Some HD is better than others obviously depending upon the sensor. For me, the FX3 sensor just has everything I like straight out of camera. But hey, I can’t afford it so it’s a moot point 👍🏻
So could we expect some new pro cameras then since they are adding some better features to this vlogging camera? I almost have a reason to get this instead of the a7iv but not quite.
Thanks for this video, I still don't regret my A7IV purchase so far, even if the ZV-E1 comes now. I like the hybrid option more than the slightly better low light performance. Also the EVF is quiet nice in bright conditions. The additional stuff is nice, but imho gimmicks, maybe I am too old for that anyways :)
I would like to see the dynamic stabilization and auto framing on the 7K sensor of the A7IV. I’d like to think that it would have less of a reduction in quality.
It's quite funny how so many pro camera youtubers are promoting the zv - e1, while for exactly the same money you have the a7iv which is a way better deal in so many aspects. You only miss out on gimmicky auto framing stuff. AND... It's all plastic, overheats, and has NO EVF. I agree with you completely. This is marketed at vloggers.
I can understand the AI stuff not coming to older cameras via firmware....but for instance......the new stabilization.....there's no reason they can't bring that to older cameras like the a7iv....since it's pretty much entirely software based.
That is only if the new AI processor is needed. The older cameras may not handle this. It could also be marketing. As a business they won't make money giving every single feature to every single camera. I see it from both sides. As a consumer myself it does suck but I see it from a business stand point too. The perfect camera won't exist as it would cost an arm and a leg.
Hi Jason. I'm looking a gimbal cam which only shoot B roll during the wedding. Do you think ZVE1 suit for that kind of job under Australian Summer? Or better go with a7iv ( a bit better due to bigger body )
I don't own canon. I don't like to compare to cameras I don't use and know a lot about because it would be unfair. Plus comparing manufacturers is tough because there is more to consider
I have 7iv I think it have more of both worlds and zv e1 have really great features for video the only downside of this last camera in my case is don't have evf no buttons no 2 cards slots overheating but the most important I need more buttons 😂
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yeah but unless you live in North Pole, in Europe during spring summer can get pretty hot, even in London last summer we ve been quite constantly around 28-30 with peak of 40 degrees. Something isn’t right with the zv e1 it’s supposed to be a video camera over photography but it has overheating issues. A camera that is meant for video over photo but overheats after 30-50 minutes of video means it’s not really good for videos or photography that’s my deduction so I would go with the a74
Yoo Jason I’m a content creator price really isn’t the issue but I also twitch stream as well should I lean more ZV or should I spend a lil extra and get the a7 IV ?
9:37, this is what we need in every other camera! I was shocked the day I got there is no artificial simulated shutter sound in my a7iv for electronic shutter mode. BTW another big thing is your don't lose eye and face AF when using clear image zoom. Which I hope comes to A7iv through firmware update! Finger crossed! Lol
It is a big disappointed point that new ZVE1 has only 12MP and it is a $2600-3000 camera. This is a downside and people may prefer the sony a7iv which takes better photos. Most people take more photos than videos. In my trips to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Czech Republic and Jordan-Petra i took more than 5000 pictures and probably 10 videos. So, i think Sony a7iv would be more useful for 95% of people. I guess the biggest advantage of Sony EV1 is the Artificial Intelligence, smaller size and the dynamic image stabilization which is used actually more for videos.

One thing I wanna know and sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it, but how's the grip on the E1? I went from an A7C to an A7IV and the difference between the grips was so vast I could never go back to a camera with a crappy grip again.
Either one of these cameras, coming from my iPhone, I am horrified about the screen. Should I look at Canon instead? Or do you have any suggestions for a good monitor? Or how do people do that? I only will be using my camera in the studio, so if it’s just something I can attach to the camera or have right next to it, I wouldn’t mind doing that.
The sad thing about all this new technology that Sony is piece mealing into these new cameras means that the consumer will never get a masterpiece of a camera like the Sony a7iii again. That camera changed the game and forced Canon and Nikon to step up their games and provide more value to their loyalists to stem the tide of them becoming Sony converts. I would love to have some of the newer technology but incremental improvements are a no for me. That doesn’t mean I am waiting but it means that I might not buy another new camera for a couple of years until all these improvements become standard.
A master piece of a camera will never exist anymore. The industry does not allow for this to happen and tech is moving very fast with competition. The only way this would exist is a very very expensive flagship camera like an A1 MII
I do not recommend the kit lens at all steve. A second hand 20mm F1.8 would be a cool option or fork out some extra money for the new 16.35mm F4 PZ lens

Chose what you need and enjoy it ….😊
A7IV Is much better for video than it os for photography cmon...I use mine for video only
on point. exactly
The a74 is still the best in its bracket when it comes to hybrid cameras. But I think the ZVE1 is the best video camera focused on its bracket ranked the same as the fx30.
thanks for the comment
You da man for this 💪🏼💪🏼 been contemplating both. Thanks my guy!!
Thanks for the really good videos! I found your channel through Peter Lindgren's content.
/ Matti in Northern Sweden
do the MP differences affect video or is that just a statistic for photographers to care about?
Thank you. How about the low light performance? Big difference?
massive. ZV-E1 is better for really low light due to the ISO12,800 performance
Already have the a7r iv shooting wedding videos with it.. It's very good camera, but not that much of settings that help...... I think the iv is still my Choice for now over zv-e1...
What do you think!
Oh God you absolutely right. I'm with you now. Subscribed. For sure.
The a74 definitely has more of that digital look. Some people enjoy that though so its not necessarily a bad thing. I think if you're a hybrid shooter professional, the a74 is the clear choice. However if you need a camera to shoot RUclips videos and personal projects, the ZVE1 is just objectively the better vide-centric camera
explain the digital look
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Let's ask Chat GPT: "The “digital look” in videography is a term that refers to the visual characteristics of video footage captured by digital cameras, such as sharpness, color, contrast, noise, and motion blur. There is no definitive answer to which look is better or more desirable. It depends on the creative vision of the filmmaker, the genre and style of the project, and the preferences of the audience."
To me its about extreme sharpness but I like what chatgpt had to say
I know what you mean. This sensor simply has that Netflix documentary look very filmic and more pleasing. Less sharp.
@@HANKBRAVO81 use a mist filter and voilaaaaaa! ahahah it makes me laugh a lot, people spending thousands for super high end cameras/lenses then they put a mist filter to soften the image ahahahah, amazing
@@dottorcarlone as a premise, you’re correct.
Honestly, if I go to vlogging, I would still choose a7Siii / a7IV , the body is easy to switch different setting compare to zv-e1
for sure. Some people love those cameras
Always good to remember that the zv-e1 can produce just as high quality video as the a7iv
Well done! I want the 4 for sure! But if I had the money I’d do the a7R5…
a7RV certainly is a beast hybrid
Good info bro , I’m watching it a second time because because I want to be sure of what I’m getting
Great review. Thanks! I know what I'll get myself for my bday :)
The additional stuff is nice, but imho gimmicks, maybe I am too old for that anyways :)
the A7IV will still hold up for years to come just like the A7III did
Totally agree. I also got the A7IV !
I'm looking for a camera to create content for social networks and take photos of real estate, which one do you recommend I buy?
I hope we get 50/60 fps without crop on next firmware update for A7iv
Sony are doing more than any other manufacturer. Not defending as I agree with you but facts are facts
I would like to see the dynamic stabilization and auto framing on the 7K sensor of the A7IV. I’d like to think that it would have less of a reduction in quality.
Thanks for the great content! How do I turn on ibis+as on the a7iv?
If you keep turning camera on and off you’ll be fine with the ZV-E1
Great breakdown as always….legend status!
Jason, does this make the 11mm f1.8 sony aps-c lens + the dynamic active stab = a super awesome 4k, fully stabilized, no-gimbal vlog camera?
I’m very interested in ZV-E1. However I’m gonna wait for feedbacks about overheating.
Hi Jason, very cool videos and reviews. Why don't you try to compare with Canon? I really wanted to see a comparison of Sony A 7 m4 and Canon R6 m2.
I don't own canon. I don't like to compare to cameras I don't use and know a lot about because it would be unfair. Plus comparing manufacturers is tough because there is more to consider
I have 7iv I think it have more of both worlds and zv e1 have really great features for video the only downside of this last camera in my case is don't have evf no buttons no 2 cards slots overheating but the most important I need more buttons 😂
yes, custom buttons really does help work flow for some people
I have it pre-ordered but really looking forward to the overheating test :) It's a make or break for me so thank you.
I think for 95% of people it will be fine. It wasn't designed to be a long recording camera in hot temps. that's what the A7SIII and FX3 was made for
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I value your advice sir. Thanks for the response :) and thank you for all the helpful videos.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yeah but unless you live in North Pole, in Europe during spring summer can get pretty hot, even in London last summer we ve been quite constantly around 28-30 with peak of 40 degrees. If you shoot outdoor with 28-30 degrees this thing doesn't even last 10-15 minutes and would make the camera totally unusable. I'm looking forward to the test....
Something isn’t right with the zv e1 it’s supposed to be a video camera over photography but it has overheating issues. A camera that is meant for video over photo but overheats after 30-50 minutes of video means it’s not really good for videos or photography that’s my deduction so I would go with the a74
I have a Sony A7iv and I mainly do photos but now I want to start doing video as well, do you have any recommendation when it comes to lens.
Yoo Jason I’m a content creator price really isn’t the issue but I also twitch stream as well should I lean more ZV or should I spend a lil extra and get the a7 IV ?
18.5k to go so let's get that button! 2023 is your year!
Lets goo !
haha lessgo! You're my number one supporter my friend
Can you use a godox flash with the zve1 for photo?, and if you use external monitor with the zve1 you loose the eye tracking autofocus?
Hi i want to shoot reels for cafe and short video products and take the photo also which one should you recommend me sony a7iv or zv-e1, sony fx30
Thanks. Very helpful have an a74 and a73. Considering trading in the a73 for the EV. Sounds like a good pairing. With the a74
i think you would make a good choice there
Which camera?
Sony A7R IV or sony A7 IV??
I do only concert photography not into video and also i don't do prints n stuff...
So i should go with new processor or old model?
Is Sony A7R iv autofocus is better than a7 iv??
Sony a7IV heating issues? Main reason i am running away from a7iv
Need some suggestions?
I need advice for shooting Jiujitsu. I have a go to tall camera op that has an A7III, but would like a flip screen to get the grappling top view. Would you guys recommend the A7iv or the EV-1? Would would like to have the capacity record for 30 minutes straight. Many thanks for the help.
Definitely a7iv. The zve1 will overheat.
@@Ibz87 thank you so much!
no problem @@Plugonetwo
Would you say the lack of mechanical shutter on ZV e1 a big deal?
One thing I wanna know and sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it, but how's the grip on the E1? I went from an A7C to an A7IV and the difference between the grips was so vast I could never go back to a camera with a crappy grip again.
I'm starting to think about change my a7iii for the zv1 just because I dont have the money for the A7siii yet, what do you think Jason?
Can I use the Zv-e1 for sports photography and videography?
This video definitely helped me decide! Thank you so much Jason!! Cheers!
thanks for watching
I love you work Jason
Compare the fx30 and zve1 as a camera for filmmakers
I may do this. apples and bananas here
Either one of these cameras, coming from my iPhone, I am horrified about the screen. Should I look at Canon instead? Or do you have any suggestions for a good monitor? Or how do people do that? I only will be using my camera in the studio, so if it’s just something I can attach to the camera or have right next to it, I wouldn’t mind doing that.
Would you say the A7iv is good to capture sports moments not really trying to use it to shoot videos
Overheating seems like a deal breaker for me unfortunately but will wait for your video on that.
How do I get a vlogging lens for the ZV-E1 without spending an extra 1k? I think the kit lens is too tight when using stabilization.
I do not recommend the kit lens at all steve. A second hand 20mm F1.8 would be a cool option or fork out some extra money for the new 16.35mm F4 PZ lens
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema All the good toys are expensive lol
Your legend too, good video. Thanks and see y’a
Which is better for filming long weddings ? Z1 E1 or A7 IV?
What camera did you use to film this video?
Hi Jason, which camera would you prefer for better low-light performance at 4k60?
Zv-e1
Hey Jason I absolutely love all the valuable information that you jam into your video, thank you...
Can someone please tell me what's the meaning of "much of a muchness" ? 😆
much of a muchness means same same. Very similar either way you go
@Jason Morris oh ok now I get, thank you. 😊
Thank you for your service!
Hi their
Does battery running fast for sony zv e1?
Hey guys, I‘m a Videographer and I‘m shooting rn on the Lumix G9. I want to get a sony camera for my clients work (mailny for instagram and yt) Would anyone recommend to „upgrade“ to the sony zv e1?
i was wating for this
thanks for waiting. Hope it delivered
Wonder if it’s worth getting a7iv now at full price I’d an a7c2 is coming with the same sensor 👀
the A7C II would have the same sensor for sure. Just think it will be cheaper which means they will remove more expensive components like EVF and maybe some video features
great review
thank you
Is the A7iV good for long videos ?
Thanks for great compare.. the results and cropping amount of new dynamic stabilization seems similar to gyro post shot stabilization…
it is very similar but remember this is in-camera. Less steps and ready to go footage
We now need a7c size like that but with a7rv or a7iv specs
I feel the A7C II would come soon
Sir the country where im living we have temp goes like 40°C-45°C so how as a vlogger I can use this camera. I m just youtuber travel vlogger not a professional still i hve a doubt about this situations
get lumix s5ii and be happy
a7siii
Why are people unhappy about micro HDMI? I’m not familiar too much about these technologies, but I feel like that’s a step forward compared to the big clunky HDMI.
Definitely a big step backwards for pro creators. Micro HDMI brake very easily compared to full size HDMI.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Thanks. I wasn’t getting that vibe from the video.
This isn’t new tech and has been discussed several times on other videos on my channel. If you don’t know the benefits of full size HDMI, then that is no worries. full size HDMI isn’t for you and this camera hits the target audience for content creators and and vloggers who don’t need full size HDMI
Could you ask sony if the overheating would get better in a future firmware update?
they didnt use the large sigma heat sink in this camera. So it may be hardware
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema ah. Thanks
Great video! Info is we needed! My initial thoughts was to pair my a7SIII w ZV-E1 (Gimbal Cam or B Cam). Now, a7IV + ZV-E1 (Gimbal Cam or B Cam) looks like a sweet pair for hybrid shooters.
great plan
To cut the story short get the A7IV, unless you are a vlogger then you should get the A7IV
🤣
Can someone recommend a camera for car videos/reels, I am currently using an Iphone 14 Pro & Gimbal setup. Looking for something small I can carry in my backpack often that is good in low lighting and not too expensive.

With 4k 8k , stabilisation, shutter speeds etc, but still if these over heat within 20 minutes, whats the purpose?
overheats with constant recording. It was made for vloggers who don't record constant but in bursts. Definitely fine for its intended audience
