The value you provide is unmatched! Thank you. After watching this, I believe the 7iv will be future proof for a good couple of years to come. I only discovered the WB lock a few weeks ago and use it all the time now. Another cool feature I learnt from you was changing the WB priority from STD to white. It just gives it that slightly cooler look that I prefer. In the past I always found myself having to dial back the temperature ever so slightly.
What's your expectations and predictions for the A7Cii that is soon to be released? I'm very curious to see what upgrades Sony made to this camera.

@@PatrickMastersProductions I think it's always good to wait and now that the a7siii mark 2 is out we can see that the main Pro is much less risk of overheating but 4K 60 has a crop and lacks the sensor of the A7 S3 4 awesome dynamic range in low-light settings but adzan evf

Sony a7IV overheats when you film over 40 minutes, I just bought it and it happened to me twice! Anyway, my two helpful cents, and thank you for the video! :)

Once again, I'm so impressed with the quality of your work, from production to post! Super thorough video, easy to follow and jam packed with great info. I would only add that the 7K downsampled to 4K video of the A7IV will always look slightly better than the ZV-E1 because of the extra source resolution. Keep up the great work...Bravo!

you're definitely right, but i like the softer look of the lower resolution sensors a majority of the time.
All I’m gonna say is the fx3 was used on The Creator, which is that 12mp sensor👀
well because of this, is part of the reason why many people reduce the DETAIL down all the way so it doesn't look too sharp and digital. which is a problem. i own the a7iv and tend to get a much more organic and pleasing look when i reduce detail and add a glimmerglass filter to make the highlights bloom a bit.

I have been using and abusing in all the worst weather conditions the A7IV for almost 2 years already, it’s amazing! I love the ZV-E1 for its compact size, and outstanding high ISO performance, but as a stills portrait photographer it sucks for its 1/30 sec sync speed when using strobes! I'm taking the ZV-E1 out on a trip for some landscape photos for an upcoming video. I've been (surprisingly) impressed with it's photo capabilities so far.

Hi! Both my English and photography knowledge ain’t perfect haha. Could you explain me that’s issue of the 1/30 seconds something?
Amazing video. Loved the comparison as I have an a7iv and was looking at potentially grabbing a ZV-E1 as a secondary camera and as a main video camera. The one thing I did want to add to this was with the product showcase mode. You don't actually have to cover your face with the product when you have that feature on and that for me was one of the biggest reasons that made that setting so good. I have tested that feature on the ZV-E10 and the ZV1 II and it works great on both those models, so it should be similar with this one.
Hello Sean ! Thank you for this video! Great quality and personally I have the a7iv and would choose it again and again but the smaller cam is dope and powerful too! But again I love the way the 7iv feel in the hand and you’re right about dual SD card slots. I’m no professional but it’s great to have video and pictures separated it truly is a game changer ! I came from the a6300 and I have to say that old beautiful thing can still keep up with the cameras today! Thank you for the video !

I have had a a7r4 shut down from over heating in 4k in a 74 degree temp controlled house. I had to change the heat settings in the camera.
It took about an hour to over heat.

Overheating is not an issue for me since I shoot everything in bursts anyway.. (never doing documentaries, interviews, etc etc)
The no crop on 4k60 and the tiny 1.1x crop for the 4k120 is a must for me.
Rolling shutter is excellent!
It's literally a tiny FX3. 🤯😍
Perfect for photography if you aren't going to print and if you are only going to use it for social media. (Only downside is 12mp so you don't have much room for cropping since this is just above 4k & electrical shutter banding stuff)

For hybrid work, my go to is still the A7iv. Good ergonomic form factor, ideal amount of megapixels, better cooling, and super35 mode albeit controversial for 4k60 but I'm more grateful for the ability to crop with great detail.
However, the ZV-E1 is still a huge advancement in tech. Full frame in a slightly smaller form factor than the A7C and great AF.

4:00 non-pro here. I knew about dual native ISO but did not know that it is different across so many settings like slog 2,3, HLG and so on. Really, loved the video and graphic overlays and is very well focused.

Just wanted to let you know, this video is well done and you have a wonderful way to keep my attention. Definitely going to subscribe as I continue watching this video. PS I am really considering getting a new camera. For the better part of two years I have been using the Canon SL2 camera. It’s only 1080 HD. I have a small Osmo action. Cam three that I have been using. For my 4K resolution. The sound quality is great, but I definitely need to upgrade to something that can shoot 4K, and also do well in low light.

I purchased a zv-e1 and am still getting to know the camera. I'm preparing a video for youtube and I hope to share it soon. your video made a great comparison between the two cameras. The only problem I really didn't like with the zv e1 is that I can't use the flash at speeds above 1/30 because it only has an electronic shutter. I'm going to have to get another camera for photography.

When you start the USB streaming and plug it in there is a BLACK info box that covers the lower half the screen - how do you get this to go away without turning off the streaming?

Excellent Video. You need more attention than what you are currently getting with these. I wonder in the instance of the color test, I'd imagine its due to the fact the A7 IV sensor is a Conventional Bayer construction and the ZV-E1 is a Quad Bayer? Must have some sort of factor in it at least. I am still on the fence between the two as a part time professional hybrid user.

I am happily using my A74 for years now. As I slowly shifted toward video I just purchased the ZV-E1 for 4k60fps nocrop and lightweigjt because the gimbal use. Love both, and also this video ❤

How come I didn't know this camera Giga-Chad existed before! New sub! It's by far the best review I've seen, the cameras next to each other with the FPS and that table with ISO was a super touch. Did you notice any problems with the 12mpx for pictures in the Zv-e1? I'm planning on doing Everest Base Camp and I want to get a compact camera.

Tough call. I like the ZV-E1 a lot as a b-cam. If you need long recording though, I’d suggest the FX30 if another FX3 isn’t an option

In weather like India where 40° Celsius or 104° fahrenheit is normal in summers is zve1 going to work for a cinematographer? In which I am gonna take shots like Max 1 minute each but most of them gonna be on s&q pr 4k 60 ? What say?
did you use the sony's slog3 to 709 lut? because when i'm grading the footage it doesn't look the same as in your video

How do you compare the zv-e1 with the new A7C II? What are your thoughts?
I just got my a7c2 the other day, videos to come on the channel very soon.
Worth pointing out the ZVE1 also has 180 240 fps - another advantage.
I’m a photographer - who is starting to get into videography (hybrid weddings). I have an a7iii and A7iv! I’ve been using the custom dials etc to switch A7iv to video then back to photo - which is a pain when putting it on my gimbal!!! I am torn between the ZV-E1 and FX30! I love the idea of the fx3 sensor! But 1 SD card 😬! I’ve also never had an SD fail though…. Is it good enough for professional work?
That's awesome - thanks for sharing. I'd say that it isn't ideal for that due to potential overheating in addition to the card slot aspect. I think the FX30 might be a better option there (just might need a lens for it)

Would the A7IV + A7S III not be a better setup?
You haven’t gotten the A7iv to overheat? Mine gets hot on just about any moderate run. 😭
My main reason for not buying an A7IV would be: rolling shutter in 4k is very high and if you are moving/doing pans while filming it's going to be a potential issue. Still crazy value though

a7iv will absolutely feel better but the ZV-E1 is surprisingly beefy for such a small camera

That crop from the a74 destroys that camera.
I don't know why Sony confuse people with the XAVC terminology, just write H264 or H265 and with or without all intra and mention all are 4:2:2 10bit - like other cameras.

Not a bad reason at all and I can’t say I disagree. I have found some good custom seatings for the ZV-E1 to make it efficient, but yea I get it.

Great ideas. From a journalist and journalism professor, button up a few things to take to next level-- 1) show yourself less and show more video of other people/objects 2) all side by side comparisons need a split screen rather than back to back.3) shorten videos
What is your favorite user friendly vlog camera ?
I think the a6700 or the ZV E1 are stellar for this although there is a slight learning curve

th A7IV overheated multiple times when recording concerts or longer interviews at about min 50, 25p 4k xavcs 10bit. even with opened monitor etc. sucked hard. gonna sell it.

What was your heat setting set to?
I think it has to go like this: if you’re pretty much solely a content creator, ZV-E1 is the choice. However, if you want a brilliant hybrid camera the A7 IV is the king no question. I had a ZV-E10 (yes it’s not full frame but it’s a similar concept to the Z1), and frankly I HATED taking photos with it due to no viewfinder, terrible ergonomics and lower pixels. I think people forget how important EVF’s are and that having a chunkier camera makes it much easier to use on the go
Agreed. For the similar price point I don’t see why anyone would choose the zve1 over the a7iv.
Why does auto tracking always look like a spastic cameraman is operating the camera? It’s not correct camera moves at all.
Auto tracking or auto framing? Assuming that you’re referring to the auto framing on the ZV-E1? If so, have you messed with the crop level or tracking speed settings?
@@seandewispelaere I don’t own either camera yet. I’m only commenting on what I’ve seen in reviews. Sorry , I meant auto framing. What I’ve seen is…camera always lagging behind the motion, not anticipating or creating space ahead of the motion. Is there a video where someone demonstrates the alternative speeds or crops (if that’s any better)?
Copy that and I’m not sure if there’s a video showing that in detail. I showed a few settings in my first ZV-E1 video. I do see your point. I think that if you set the crop level to minimal and tracking speed to slow, you’ll get a better result
iso test was useless...
A7iv has much better video quality…that’s absurd. It downsamples from 7k.

No doubt (I've also really liked the ZV-E1 for simple photography recently which has been a nice surprise)
I think the biggest mistake is to compare the cameras for purposes that they were not made to work with.
I’m seeing a lot of people saying “photography goes from A7IV, if it’s video it’s from ZVE1” but they’re forgetting what kind of video they were built to film.
ZVE1 has slightly better settings but it is not so far from the A7IV, and the point is that ZVE1 has few applications that would be travel and vlogs, other than that I don’t think it has many safe applications, weddings is definitely not her case and if you go this way it will ruin your work due to overheating and 1slot for SD, for corporate events is also not her case, in short, ZVE1 has A7SIII features for those who make video for RUclips, Travel, because they are environments that you can control, came out of it, the camera is not reliable and It may have left a lot in the lurch, and it barely launched and has several reports of overheating in countries that have a good ambient temperature what would it be of hot countries like Brazil, India, Africa, etc.?
Stop saying “Photography camera X, Videographer camera Y” is not how these comparisons work.
