  • My R1200GS Adventure is my only mode of transportation, so finding ways to maximize storage is key. Turns out, the Givi XS306 tank bag is a great compliment to my Bumot Defender panniers!

    That is exactly the video I was searching to watch. I read some so and so reviews about the OEM BMW bag, so I turned to Givi and found your video. It was great to understand the tanklock mechanism, thank you! It would be great to have all my camera equipment and drone in an easily accessible location.

    Dave, congrats on the video! Very informative and with a amazing quality! I do ride quite different roads in South America but it's fantastic to follow your trips! You have a fan in Brazil!

    If you didn't yet, have a look at Gerbings electric jacket liners. With all the winter riding you are doing, I'm sure you would love them. Also in case you didn't know, Twisted Throttle is right down in Rhode Island as an excuse for a shopping trip.

      Hey Chris, thanks for the tip! I forgot Twisted Throttle was in RI- I'll have to swing by. I actually have the Gerbing jacket, pants, and gloves. They make winter riding tolerable. Thanks again for watching!

    Hi Dave, thanks for the informative video and that GIVI bag looks good. I purchased the small BMW bag for my GS last year and it transferred over to the GSA when I changed my bike. I find these bags are invaluable; I know mine's not that big (approx 8 litres I think) but it still holds everything I need and like yours, has a map window. Although I have satnav mounted, I still like to have an old fashioned map with me. Looking forward to seeing any video you take of your forthcoming trip; enjoy and ride safe. Cheers, Andy

      Hi Andy, Thanks for watching! I nearly picked up a BMW tank bag, but the price was right on the Givi. Even with its monstrous size, the 25L will come in handy I'm sure. I plan on taking all my camera gear on this trip, so keep checking back! I have to wrap up one project before we hit the road, but departure should be this weekend. -Dave

    i have that bag, over 2 years the plastic head of the zipper broke into half after the plastic turned sticky/melted. other than that, its a great bag to have.

    From my own experience with an iPhone 5, I would suggest you be aware that your cellphone can seriously overheat while charging under the clear map cover, especially in warm weather or with the sun beating down on it. My iPhone 5 got so hot that it shut itself off and didn't turn on again until some time later. I few months later I decided to replace it with an iPhone SE. Good luck on your cross-country tour! 👍

      Donald, thanks for the reminder! I guess the clear plastic would end up acting like a greenhouse under direct sunlight. Check back soon for videos from the trip!

    Seems like a very nice bag. Did you happen to look at any other bags before you settled on this one? Did you consider the one made by Touratech?

    Looks like it blocks view of speedo and everything dash related?

      Nope, not at all actually! Even with it in the extended position I still have a clear view of everything on the dash.

    Are you taking a southern route out west? I ride in the winter but have never thought about going anywhere this time of the year and how do you keep the salt off your bike on a big trip like that?

    • @MrHeresDave
      @MrHeresDave  7 лет назад

      The plan, at the moment at least, is to head straight south to Florida, spend a couple days, then head west to Los Angeles via Tucson. I made the trip a few winters ago on a KLR- it's not that bad! As for the salt, I just rinse the bike with a hose and cloth from time to time. Sometimes I'll go to a self service car wash and use the low pressure setting.

      MrHeresDave I sprayed my bike down with ACF50, so far it's doing it's job, I like that tank bag, I use a Nelson Riggs bag with magnetic straps, I wasn't thinking and laid it on the ground, I never did that again, it picked up metal and scratched my tank pretty good, so the givi system looks way better. Enjoy your trip.

      Yikes! The Givi system seems to be really well thought out. I had a Wolfman tank bag but the strap system was too much to deal with, even when just filling the tank. After my trip I'll be doing more comprehensive reviews of all the gear. I'll let you know how the system holds up!

      I've had ACF50 sitting in my Amazon cart for a few weeks- I'm going to pull the trigger now!
