Carrying a burrito in your tank bag is pure genius. I am going to re-think my entire loadout right now. I do not, however, carry my smartphone in my tank bag. That is always on me, somewhere, in case I and my bike separate ways; and two to insulate its camera from vibrations. Awesome video as always!

Thanks man. Someone needs to make a smartphone that can survive real use. I hate these things.

When I go to a motorcycle rally it is pretty normal to stop the bike on grass, sometimes the ground is a bit soft and the bike would fall over if I put it on the side stand and get off. I have a square of plywood that I can put under the sidestand so that it doesn't sink into the ground, but the bike will fall over if I put it on the sidestand and get off to get the plywood out of the top box. So, I keep that square of plywood in the tank bag, so that I can get it out and drop it to the ground and move it with my foot to under the side stand. This is the #1 thing I have found to be better in my tank bag than anywhere else on the bike.

    Very informative, thank you.
Given me a few good additions to my setup 👍🏻
A couple of key additions I've got in mine is visor cleaner (30ml), Small lithium battery for the keyfob (CR2032), needed this a few times on my R1250GSA. Lastly a USB cable and small powerbank in order to charge the Gopro, Coms unit (Sena 50R) and ultimately the phone.

The small lithium battery is a great addition. My keyfob on my GS also died. What a pain. I always carry a small battery pack and cables, just not in my tank bag, no room left. Cheers.

Burrito and Bearclaw, you got that right. Always good to have a source of energy out there. I'd recommend also a small bottle of water if you have a bigger tank bag, and if you don't wear a hydration backpack. One more item that I always carry on my tank bag is ear protection. You can stuff foam plug in all sorts of nooks and cranies in the tank bag.

    • @advmatt

Those Bon Appetite Bear Claws are fantastic. The only problem that I have with them is I never eat only one, always 2 at a time, because Pilot/Flying J truck stops always have a deal 2 for $3.50 and I just have to eat both of them. Also in my tank bag I carry small packages of mix nuts( trail mix style without the chocolate).

I'm intrigued - what is a bear claw? Is it sweet or savoury? One other thing to carry are compressed towels. They're about the size of a mint but add water they become a good sized cotton flannel. Great for a quick clean and take next to no space.

It occurred to me just before you mentioned it that I don’t carry a toilet kit. TP, a trowel and a piece of rope. OK, I'm sorely tempted to unsubscribe, as item 2 is just tormenting me. WE DONT HAVE THOSE HERE IN SCOTLAND and I would kill for one. Heard of them a couple of years ago, and I have craved one ever since.
Anyway, hope your face heals up quickly and you can fit your head in your helmet again.
I carry some cable ties and some electrical tape in my tank bag , quickest accessible, rather than tucked elsewhere in with my tools.
oh, and I carry a cargo net in mine, in the map pocket at the top, so if I end up going to a shop for item 3 on the way to a campsite, since they never sell single rolls, and now here in Scotland at least they generally come in 4 packs, I can whip out the cargo net and ride along with securely attached toilet rolls, for all the world to admire.
