That was wonderful, thank you. My printer Canon tr4720 didn't work in live dvd. On Friday my main computer crash and I couldn't boot up, it asked for the Boot disk I didn't have one. I have been doing weeks of UTube Mint tutorials, including many here. So had a backup of everything and Loaded Mint 21.2 wiping Win 10. This time Mint found my printer and installed driver and it works. Don't know about scanner yet. Canon Canada does have a deb package. Next project. I did run into another serious problem a lock error when trying to install MS Fonts (Failed) still researching how to fix.

Thank you for the information! I was wondering about a Brother QL-570 driver for my Windows to Mint migration that I'm planning.

I'm a Linux user. Mint & Feren. I recently put Feren on an old laptop which has an Nvidia graphics card. Everything was fine until I changed the driver to the recommended driver and it wouldn't boot. I just got an infinite loop at the start, so had to reformat the drive and stick with the original driver that Feren supplied. I think Linux has problems with Nvidia graphics cards.

Hello, my suggestion in case like this would be to boot with Live mode for say Linux Mint since you indicated you use mint , this way it will boot with open source drivers, which might be a good option on this old laptop, Amd drivers are usually no issue on most Linux machines, Nvidia open source drivers do work well on most machines, not sure what happened on your machine, Duel boot ? In any case next time you have issues, boot using any Live Linux distribution, Mint will boot this way, Mint also comes with Timeshift to perform system restores down the road. Regards, t

My printer driver seems to be an sh file, which I believe is a script. I can't run it. It says I have to be root, but when I become root I can't find any of my files and folders.

The Root mode is a mode that can be not easy to understand and also not taken lightly since you can make changes to your system in a way that can also damage your OS if not used properly. The File manager in a Root mode can do wonderful things but also can be misused also, with that stated keep in mind all user files are in the Main Home Directory ( Folder ) then look for your User name and navigate from there, I am surprised the driver you are looking for was not in a simple Deb file unless you downloaded a different Linux version like RPM , Linux Mint is Debian based. If you are using raw files and compiling from txt files , or running something requiring Root Mode, I can see maybe why the sh command . I hope I gave some thoughts on this that was helpful. Regards , t
