Re: Flatpak vs System package: A couple points I feel could have been said, perhaps more concisely on video than I'm going to write, are:
    - With some apps, the system package version can be quite a lot older than the Flatpak version. I.e. Audacity is 2.4.X as a system package, but 3.4.X as a Flatpak. Especially in Audacity's case, there is a pretty big difference in those and you might want to check out those differences before choosing which one to install.
    - The large size difference is a bit decieving. Flatpaks require your system to have some files that they depend on, but that don't *all* need to be downloaded and installed separately for *every* Flatpak app. I.e. in the case of Audacity, the reported download size is for the Flatpak version is 1,1Gb and required disk space is over 3Gb, while the System Package is an 11Mb download and something like 60Mb disk space. But after installing the Flatpak version, its actually only using 89Mb of disk space for Audacity, and the rest is for those Flatpak dependencies which won't all have to be downloaded again if you install something else that uses the same files.
    - Software Manager, unfortunately, doesn't tell you which part is the app and which part are the dependencies, when it lists the download and space requirement size.
    - However, the System packages can (according to wiser people than me online) be more stable and thoroughly tested to work on Mint than the Flatpaks.
    - So, don't be fooled by the file size. Not every Flatpak app will take 3Gb of file space! However, do be careful about checking what differences the app versions have, and maybe search online to see if there are reported issues with the newer (or older!) version.
Also p.s. Awesome video! I learned a lot, so thank you! :) I just pointed the above out because I ran into that a couple days ago and had to go on the Mint forums to find out what's going on. Noob here!

Thanks for your comments...Regarding your insight, and the points are well taken. I however make some of these statements you refer to on some of my video's and in a lot of cases I ask the viewer to check out the definition of flat packs for them self's, or version numbers , sometimes I can not elaborate completely , some of this is due to time and some due to multiple subjects in same video. I have been accused in the past also of using too many details, on my past video's by viewers , so sometimes I need a balance at the expense of leaving out details just due to mixed subjects, with all that stated ... thanks again for the kind words at the end of your comment. Regards, t

Quick question: at idle, using htop, what is the memory consumption of Xfce? (I ask because it seems high, almost 800 MiB while test-driving this ISO via thumb-drive on an old Acer laptop, but I suspect this isn't necessarily an accurate reflection compared to full install on bare metal).

The specks are on Mints Web site, for the required or minimum. But to answer this is difficult... Installed versus Live Mode varies, also as we move from one version in time of same distro things get added and processes are updated and changed over time, also the hardware from one machine to another can also effect mem usage, like CPU, Ram type, Motherboard, network hardware, Disk Swap usage etc etc. I know this is not a good answer for you, but since all computers are not built with same components, this can have a large impact on usage , maybe try to look at (Top or Htop) Processes and sort by highest Memory usage to get a feel of which process is using most Memory. As a side note... you could also just burn a copy with older version of Mint to check your machine. Regards, t

I've never used Linux before. Between Zorin OS Lite and Linx Mint XFCE, which one do you recommend for an old laptop? Why?

Both are good, Mint does have a couple of things I like , one is Web Apps to make simple web icons. I have videos on Web Apps... if you are a subscriber use keyword search , details also found in my Community tab. Regards, t
