      @@ryankeeney2287 i actaully ended up going to college instead but trust me if I could go back, I would change it all. Go do it if you love the park, the people, and most def the outdoors. Ive have some friends who have worked at different parks and they either like it or don't. It really just depends on the person.

    Man I wish someone was THIS invested in the first national park I started applying at. All I could find for Grand Canyon National Park was a few 2 min videos. Thanks for providing so much insight into what it's like to live and work there. Yosemite National Park easily became my #1 destination for a new job/relocation experience..

    Ahh living in Yosemite. The idea alone changes my mood for the day man. What are your thoughts about moving there with a family of 4? Two children, 9 and 6yrs old? Have you seen much of that?
    Thanks

      Glad to have influenced the good vibes!
      I'd say, the only way to make that work is if you snag a non-seasonal manager/director position. They get the best housing (literally houses) and are the only ones allowed to have a family in Yosemite. I see higher NPS jobs allow you to live in a house and raise a family as well. Everyone else can't house their family though. What I also see however, is a lot of people having houses outside the park and commuting inward. Usually that is the best bet. Mariposa, Midpines area usually. I know a few maintenance guys commuting from Oakurst everyday! Yosemite offers a daycare center and a school I believe.

      That's awesome info. Thanks. I will keep this dream alive and continue to watch the wire for what positions are open there.
      I hope to end up there soon.
      Thanks again and keep up the good work.

    Okay for all those new potential hires going to Yosemite it's a great experience specialist your first time away from home but take some advice that's free for someone who used to live up there 1 save your money it's easy to spend money send it home put it in the bank get it in the credit union have it taken out of your taxes or something last resort but don't spend all your money it's cheap to live up there your rent is next to nothing your food is next to nothing if you're on the meals program you don't pay for water garbage sewage and last I knew the laundry was free all you have to do is buy your soap you can save a fortune I know you are want to party that's okay party enjoy yourself have fun make friends but pull your money together be tight with your money be stingy other person pay to don't be so generous you will thank me and years to come if you do this
    2 mind your own business don't get into other people's business up there it's a giant Fishbowl small town mentality everybody knows everything remember if you tell one person everyone's going to know your friend that you think you can trust you can't people are blabbermouth people listen people hear things people make things up don't let rumors Take You Down still enjoy the life there's a beautiful place it's peaceful to Majestic if you get a chance to walk the valley at night let your feet guide you that's one of most beautiful places on Earth and please be patient with the guests they don't mean to be tore ons they can't help themselves
    3 remember this if the Rangers going to knock on your door you do not have to open it always keep your door locked never piss off security never piss off the wrong people never speak ill of your company off the clock what other managers can hear it they can and will write you up never admit to anything if you're accused it wasn't me honest it wasn't me unless they got absolute 100% proof there's cameras everywhere or somebody will rat you out for just the fun of it
    4 if you plan to go hiking climbing I just play walking off enjoy the scenery always tell somebody let them know where you're going always keep your car clean everything that means toothpaste toothbrushes deodorants candy bar wrappers bubble gum wrappers whatever it is if it has a scent the Bears will smell it remember your insurance will not cover the Damage Done by the Bears think before you do what are the do's and don'ts up there there's a lot of things that are very dangerous like don't go swimming near the edge of a waterfall and no trying to make pets are friends with the native animals they are wild animals that's more for the tore ons
    5 okay this should be my last one if you're going to use the Community Kitchens are restrooms clean up after yourself don't use other people's stuff without asking realize that you're dealing with people from all over the country if not all over the world everyone has different ideals beliefs concept the way things should be done but please respectful and mindful clean up as you go makes a lot easier for the next person you might be the next person respect your roommate you might be good friends you might not be but still you should respect them and remember everyone you are in a federal Park any violation of any law no matter how small it is is a federal offense so whatever you do if you see mr. Ranger don't tell him where Yogi's at you can tell him Booboo is up in in San Francisco working in a gay bar as a bouncer so hope each and everyone of you who do get a job enjoy it have a great time some of you won't somebody will love it some of you will be there for the rest of your life some will just be there for a season so remember everyone is different everyone has a different ideal different belief stand strong enjoy the park make the most of it peace out

    Why did you have a hard time with housekeeping? I just got hired for housekeeping but have an interview tomorrow for a cashier position. Would you suggest one over the other?

    • @EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT
      @EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT  6 лет назад

      Andrew MondayKiss By housekeeping I meant Roomskeeper (maid). Plain and simple ...it sucked. But if you got a position at Housekeeping camp, THATS totally different. Super chill.

    • @DrewCreate
      @DrewCreate 6 лет назад

      EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT no I got the rooms keeper position at the majestic hotel haha. What kind of stuff were you doing? Just essentially changing sheets and cleaning after the guests left? Also did you have any time off to actually hike and explore? That’s probably my biggest concern.
      Thanks for the quick reply!

    • @EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT
      @EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT  6 лет назад

      Andrew MondayKiss Hey, no problem man. Yea, essentially changing sheets, scrubbing bathrooms, making everything tidy for the next guests. I was at the Lodge but a lot of people that were roomskeepers there moved over to The Majestic and don't seem to mind it. Bigger tips I'm sure. That hotel is way nicer. Lots of history. And yea you'll have time to hike on weekends, climb in the afternoons if that's what you're into. One thing I would ask is if they are doing 6 days a week. The lodge had a habit of doing that. Not sure about the Majestic atm.

      EYEOFTHEYOSEMIGHT awesome thanks for all the advice! I ended up getting a job at white wolf as a camp helper. I’m stoked! It should be awesome. I’m more into being in the high country. Are you working there again this summer ?
