I've been using this for around 9-12 months and this video really encapsulates the platform. You actually still taught me some more stuff too. A great video and excellent snapshot of Affinity Designer. Thanks so much for putting this together! Now I can send it to all my Adobe user friends and ask them why they are still paying those prices!
Thanks Jesse, just downloaded Affinity Designer (never used a vector design tool before), learning these 10 tasks was so helpful!
Is the program good? I just want to buy it but Im not sure. Does it support Ai and cdr format? Can it does animation? Is it heavy (eat your RAM much)?
Thank you - a perfect video for the engaged Affinity newbie. I’ve had the program for all of 48 hours, but learned a lot here.
Thanks a bunch! So humbled and overjoyed by your support! 🤘
I've been using Affinity since their 1st release and have been converting Adobe using friends of mine to Affinity ever since! Great video.
@AFTA ART Affinity can read AI files, and can save (export to) ai files. so you can co-exist with AI users easily.
Thanks Jesse for taking the time to create and share this with us.
so helpful tutorial, thanks!!!
I just recently switched to Affinity and I'm happy I did! Affinity pricing is definitely more affordable than the program I used to use. Thanks for this clear video!
Well done. Clear. Concise. Thank you.
Very helpful. Thanks very much.
Hey Jesse I just affinity designer and learning it, would be great to have more videos like this and focused on some areas or maybe just following you while working. Is a powerful tool and is growing fast. Thanks
I haven't done anymore Affinity Designer videos but I need to 👍🏼
Great video. Simple, informative and to the point. For a beginner, this was very helpful. Just wish they made this for Chromebooks.
This was a great tutorial!
Thanks for the tutorial man! Incredibly helpful to get me on the ground running with this.
You are super welcome, Thanks for watching and supporting.

this is sooo cool to hear, so glad it helped.
great thanks for the 10 basics, its very helpful for the beginning
Glad it was helpful 👍🏼
I am a 100% fan of every Affinity product. In my hobby, I create scale (1:87) models of card stock medieval buildings. For years I used PhotoImpact Pro (versions 8 thru 13) and was quite successful with it. However, it was a little glitchy and those glitches were never fixed. The program was discontinued in 2008 when Corel acquired it (it's still for sale, but is badly outdated even tho it is usable in Windows 10). I began searching for an alternative program a few years ago and found Affinity. That discovery changed my world! Affinity Designer (my preferences for model-making) was amazing;y easy to learn, fast as all get-out, and caused my hobby to become a pleasure instead of a job. The models I create look great! I use all three Affinity products for various projects and love every minute of it.
Very GOOD Instruction, I Enjoyed,Liked and Learned. Great explanation/personality. Make More. Subscribed. ***** Thank YoU
Very helpful to finally make the decision of purchasing the software. Thumbs up!
Hope you dig it 👍🏼
Thank you SO much! You don't understand how helpful that was!

Dear Jesse, the way that you explain are so easy to understand and follow. Thank you. I wish you could do a full tutorial on Affinity Designer. Thank you again!
Thanks so much, Robson! I’ll see what I can do!
You're the best! Explained excellent for beginners like me.
Let me know if I can help in any other way.
Very clear and concise. Thank you!
You are so welcome

Thank you so much!!!
Thank you, Audra!
wooooooow The Best Affinity teacher online Thank You Brother.
That's a huge compliment, thanks!
affinity designer is a really good graphic software easy to use, and as powerful as adobe illustrator
Agreed
Great content Comrade
Great video! I freaking love this program, and it has entirely replaced both Illustrator and Photoshop for me (I always did hate switching between the two constantly)... Just so you know, if you hold down alt (option) and press the "add" button, instead of uniting the vector in a curve it will create a compound shape, and each of the sub-shapes can still be edited by selecting their individual layer (but the compound shape can be resized and moved just like a united vector). You can actually do some awesome things with this ability, because you can edit the individual shapes while they are being affected by composite layer FX that affect the compound shape as a whole (like drop shadow and 3D). :)
It’s always a good feeling when you find a tool that you enjoy using. Thanks for the encouragement 🤙🏼
Hi that’s an interesting comment, mind explaining how this software has replaced Photoshop as well.
Still relevant in 2020. Thanks for the great vid Jesse :)
Thanks so much, Kaizen!
Nice Tutorial dude! Looks like affinity designer is a really beginner friendly software! i am going to buy it :)
thanks for the video very nicely done and simple to understand
Thanks
Thx for the tut buddy! I’ve learned a lot and I’ve learned, I’ve learned a lot!
Yes! So happy to help!
make an introduction of new feather of Affinity Designer please.
Coming from Illustrator, my only concern thus far is figuring out the Layers. I have a project coming up that combines a lot of different icons which I want to put on one artboard. It would be best if I can isolate each to its own layer.
helpful tutorial, thank a lot
Glad to hear it
Great tutorial! Thanks for the speed and clarity.
Your welcome, thanks for watching.
Excellent introduction. I discovered the artboards feature and the kind of infinite canvas which kind of resembles Adobe XD (without the animation features of XD as of now).
I need that because I want to to do web design (and prototyping) on iPad Pro and Affinity Design for iPad is the only serious tool out there as Adobe XD and all other are just for desktop or web browsers like Figma. Maybe IPadOS 13 with its mouse support and full web browser supports Figma. Let’s see.
Here's hoping!
I will be watching more of your videos I use Sawgrass Creative Studio to make metal signs to attach on wreaths, I just bought Affinity designer so really want to learn the program but have so many questions I am such a Newbie at this program
please make more videos about Affinity. It's really a great tool for new freelancers, even if they are devs and not pure designers.
I’ll see what I can do!
Thanks Jesse, you should deserve free Shares in Serif
Your video has just sold the Program to me.
After using Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks for over 20 Years, this looks just as good, if not better than.
Thanks for your detailed video !
Thanks so much, BD! Have a good day!
I just found your video (2021) and found it to be very informative and well done. Thank you! I have a couple of questions about Affinity, I am an illustrator that had worked on traditional mediums most of my life and always hated how unfriendly to beginners illustrator is, unlike the freehand feeling from traditional, therefore never learned. Now that it is a subscription, won't touch it. So I went the fast route and sketch everything on apps that allow you to feel as if you are doing it freehand. The problem is all these apps are raster images, so if I want to print them, they will be pixelated. How is Affinity different from Illustrator? Other than cost, can I import my raster illustrations on to Affinity and manipulate the image or edit for better printing output? That is my intention, sketch off whatever platform and import to a platform that can convert to Vector. Thanks in advance.
do you have a video highlighting the key differences between Illustrator and Affinity Designer? not from a sales perspective to convince me to switch, but from an actual use perspective, how layers are different, and other key features. I've used Illustrator for decades, and as you might imagine, I think in Illustrator...
Good job, Jesse... for basics...
Time to move on... (grin)
* * *
I have a .png image open in Affinity Designer (AD)...
I want to create individual pieces of each of the design elements... to change their shapes and colors.
How do I turn each color of the original into shapes I can manipulate...?
* * *
Thanks for taking the time to make your videos and for your willingness to share them with us...
* * *
Until that time. . .

I put in Affinity Photo and worked on it there...
THEN brought it into Affinity Designer for the final touches...
(grin)
Until that time. . .
Don’t insult the node tool by comparing it to adobes half assed white arrow, haha! Good video man!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
Can you use this for very basic architectural drawings? I am an energy manager and have to do lighting plans and don't want to use an expensive drawing or architectural program.
this program is so sexy. cant wait to get it! thanks for the video!
Your so welcome 👍🏼
Cool
more affinity tutorials please
Coming soon
Are you one of tutvids brothers great tutorial
Hi Jesse can you make more affinity designer video's? I would love that
I will put that on the list of todo's
Every UI/UX designer on the internet is a guitarist right now :D
Hahaha!! It’s a pre-requisite!
Hi Jesse, A great introduction to Affinity Designer. As much as I have used Adobe for many years, it is really great to see a newcomer to design. In considering migrating over to this application, I have a question for you. Does Affinity Designer have the capability to work with Intuos Photo Creative Pen and Touch tablet by Wacom? I am so tired of trying to do a digital design using my mouse. Thanks in advance for addressing this question. Eric
not sure about the tablet
If i have a photo and i want to take out an object on it, how do i make that blank color to match rest of background? Thank you
great overview :)
make something like that for affinity photo :)
I have done a similar video on Affinity Photo, check it out channel ruclips.net/video/FQkmqMeCBmk/видео.html

Question. I am considering affinity. Can files created in Adobe AI be opened and edited in affinity and vice versa?
Hi Jesse, I have a question about Affinity Designer. I have made something but want to make it smaller. I know in Adobe I can use the 'e' to make everything similar smaller. How can I do this in Affinity?
Does the brush allow you to re-draw over the line to tweak the resulting curve? That is my favorite feature of Illustrator and what has prevented me from using competing vector graphics applications to date. (I mostly use the brush for inking line art, so it may take several stabs to get the line just right.)
Like the smooth tool? I don't think so, Illustrator has some good tools, but I'm sure others will catch up.
I love the smooth tool, too! It's one of my frustrations when I tried Affinity Designer, lmao. I also wish Affinity Designer has something similar to reflect tool with smart guide on. I enjoy making mandalas in Illustrator using these. I hope they do catch up soon!
When I import a previously completed illustration into Designer, it sees only the illustrations as one large file. How do I make those drawings individual (I scanned each page separately, but the scanner ran all of them together). I hope this makes sense. Thanks so much for the video. I'm a noob and have a lot of learning to do since I have done all of my illustrating on paper up to now. This helps A LOT. You rock!
Scans become an image, try importing the vector file
@@JesseShowalter Thanks, Jesse. I'll try it.
It's possible to have a white background without a margin like inkscape?
Take my money!
hahah gladly!!
If I have a piece of line art in png (or some other format) can I use this software to create a vector image that I can manipulate?
Hello Cesar, yes, you can create a vector image that can be manipulated! Create a new document and place your drawing on a separate layer (File, Place), lock this layer so it doesn't get moved by accident (Go to the Layers palette and look for the Lock icon) and lower the opacity (go to the Layers palette, Opacity) of it so that you can see what you will be drawing, then make a new layer on top of it. On this new layer, use the pen tool, if you're familiar with it, or the pencil or brush tool to trace your drawing. When done, you can delete the locked template layer that you made, as you won't need it. Good luck, hope this helps!
What about text tabs? It´s a fogy issue, and I´m very lost with it.
How do you do the chain brush?
I'm trying to make a brochure, what are some ways to put info on back ,inside, of it???...please help
That's a big question. Affinity Designer can do all that. text, images, it would be hard for me to explain everything here. Your gonna have to get hands on and fail a bunch before you succeed.
How do you drag and drop a layer from one document to another in designer?
HI!! Thanks for att great video , i have one cuestion ,, how can I recover an affinity job that erases it by mistake ?
I have no idea, wish I could be of more help :(
Edit - undo?
Can you make the tool symbols larger? I've been fussing around for an hour trying to figure out how to do this. I don't think it's possible and that's a huge problem. (I've got a 2021 16" Macbook Pro so very high screen resolution which I guess means tiny tiny tools. I'm getting an eye strain headache). Of course in this video as soon as that palette was shown, they zoomed in the video. So problem acknowledged. And yes I know Illustrator, last time I checked (CS5) had this exact problem and it was getting worse and worse with every screen resolution increase. I might be a little more tolerant, except someone showed me Corel Draw, scale tool symbols cursors to any size you want - it's always had this. I pay more and more money and the annoyances from 2005? They're still with us. (All the apps, platforms are more stable.)
Nice Jesse
Thanks 🤘
@@JesseShowalter do you have detailed tutorial on designer
It's now 50% off right now from Apple!!!!! March 26 2020 I believe Affinity Photo is as well. I'm not sure about other Affinity programs
What!!! That’s amazing!! Thanks for the share!!
I never understood this in illustrator and now in Affinity... What is the distinct difference between the pensil tool and the brush tool?
Isn't the pensil just a thin brush? Why do we need a seperate icon / tool for it?
Pen tool makes Bézier curves, brush tool ascots like a point brush
Hi Jesse, so we can pretend we are photoshop designers because we can export PSD files and send them? Is it the same for an illustrator?
mMMM bakkk some things won't translate well. For example Affinity and Photoshop don't do masks and crops quite the same, it might not look right.
you can import PSD,s fairly well... But exporting PSD,s you'll have to check them in PS and correct errors before sending them to a client!
I got affinity photo for free from my job but now I want to get affinity designer...I think I like creating vector graphics more than photo editing.
I miss the Envelope Deformation tool that was there in DrawPlus, but not in Affinity Designer which is supposed to be more advanced.
Hey they’re having a sale for Black Friday, it’s still going on. It’s 30% for design, photoshop & publisher.
YEEEEAAAHHHHH!!! 🔥
Jesse can you use this instead of illustrator? Does it really compete against it or not really?
Give it a try, its dirt cheap!
how to make cmyk halftone separation? Im looking fot it. Nobody seems in the world knows it using affinity softwares.
You're asking a question that relates to print. Affinity Designer essentially has no print focus. Certainly not separations. The older Serif software called DrawPlus actually had separation tools but in my experience, it crashed every time you tried to actually use them. And they were woefully inaccurate. Affinity software just doesn't bother with print at all. If you're trying to do something like separations with Affinity Designer, then you're trying to get it to do something which it was not at all made to do.
On the other hand, if its for fairly short run printing jobs, it will be digitally printed, and they will use PDF files.
What does Affinity Designer have that Affinity Photo does not have? I know that Affinity Designer is for vector graphics, but Affinity Photo supports them also.
Affinity Photo seems to support vector graphics but it’s not a dedicated space to create them and manipulate hem to the extent of Designer.
Affinity Photo is to Adobe Photoshop as Affinity Designer is to Illustrator!
Can you bring in Krtia brushes into the program?
You can import brushes into the program
hi i have the affinity designer and worked for some days with it. And now the layer panel isnt there anymore. In illustrator i could always choose which panels i like to see, but designer dont have that. Any Idea??thanks
click on view, click on the studio button, click the layer, drag layer back
You can reset the studio to the default settings. To do this go to menu View ▹ Studio ▹ Reset Studio.
I have Affinity Photo and I can do all this, can't see the need for designer?
I there a how to book for this software?
I think affinity makes a book, you should check it out
Great .. its helpfull...
Please help us with prcatice material..
I got something coming soon that will help 👍🏼
Jesse Showalter +918097638088. If u dont mind . Can u notify me on whatsapp.
I just bought designer for my iPad And also for my iMac Pro. Together it was $35 due to s not having as much money during the corona virus.
That’s insane!! So glad you were able to get such a deal! Stay safe!
Jesse Showalter me too.
UI is very similar to XARA programs.
So far, I like many of Affinity Designer's tools, more robust AI, but it crashes quite often, and working wtth layers are MUCH easier in Illustrator.
Yessssss 🔥🔥🔥
Hey! I want to start a drawing channle, and im searching for a good website to start. I have never EVER drawn on a computer before... That looks so hard! so if anyone can please help me, i would be very happy!
I would get an Ipad pro! my wife draws on it all the time and loves it. amzn.to/30pw6ss
how do i do zutto effect please
Don’t know what that is
@@JesseShowalter you saw the logo of pastles in Affinity that effect

I just bought Affinity Designer and Photo on sale 30% off for Microsoft PC, Mac, and iPad.
noice!!!
It kills me that people complain about how in-depth you were...it says 10 BASIC tasks, not let me show you every detail of how to do whatever you’re doing.
Fast-faster-Jesse
My boat sank
sorry
Perfer affinity tbh seeming as I’m a student and a lot of designing courses use serif in my school as it’s cheaper than things like adobe apps
Use what works best for you!
