    I dont like how the lines are pixelated as theyre being drawn and then smoothed out afterwards. Is there a way to change this? I just bought affinity designer and this is bothering me a lot

    • @RSKT_art
      @RSKT_art  3 года назад +15

      Hey, not sure what you mean to be honest. I don't seem to have that issue. The o ly thing I can think of is that my canvas size is usually pretty big (around 5000px square), so maybe at smaller resolutions lines are rasterized while you draw them? I'm not too sure. Sorry I'm not much more help :/

    • @Josiah_Harder
      @Josiah_Harder 3 года назад +8

      @@RSKT_art Sorry it is kind of hard to explain but basically it seems like the lines are extremely poor resolution immediately after drawing them but once I lift my pen from the screen the line undergoes some sort of processing which smooths it out and removes the pixelated edges that made it look low in resolution.

    • @RSKT_art
      @RSKT_art  3 года назад +15

      @@Josiah_Harder Ahh okay. Are you in the Pixel or Design persona? Vector (smooth) brushes are only avaliable in the Design persona. If your brushes are coming out as pixels, you must be in the pixel persona. You can't access pixel brushes in the design persona and visa versa. So my original rough sketch at the start is using the pixel brush, but then I switch to the design persona and use a vector brush to do the actual linework. Hope that helps you out man :)

    • @Josiah_Harder
      @Josiah_Harder 3 года назад +12

      @@RSKT_art Youre being exceptionally gracious and patient with me I thank you for that haha the problem might be with my computer or pen maybe then because when I use pixel persona my lines are rendered in full resolution but with high latency behind my pen for the initial part of the stroke until it catches up. But when I switch to the design persona the pen is very fast and responsive but the resolution is low until I lift my pen and it processes the line. This is the case with both the pencil tool and the vector brush tool. If this is abnormal and not something to be changed in settings then it must be a problem on my end haha

    • @RSKT_art
      @RSKT_art  3 года назад +5

      @@Josiah_Harder Haha, no worries mate. Yeah that is super weird, I've never had that issue before. Only thing I could reccomend is trying a different machine and seeing if the result is just local to yours. There is a forum for Affinity users as well and the devs are usually pretty quick to get back to people, so try that if nothing else works. Hope you get it sorted though! :)

    Fantastic video with great details on outlines and shading! Very helpful. The one thing I struggled with is the clipping masks and how to draw inside of just the mask. Could you make a video on just this part or share some additional details on clipping masks? Thanks again for a great video!

    • @RSKT_art
      @RSKT_art  4 месяца назад

      Yeah the clipping masks can be a bit strange sometimes. You basically want to make sure the clipping mask layer is selected, and when you go to draw on it, you need to draw inside of it. It doesn't always work though so sometimes you just click anywhere to create a pixel layer, and then drag it inside of the clipping mask layer so it's nested inside of it. Hopefully that helps :)

    Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to do this video. I have been using AD for about a year (no graphic design or creative skills whatsoever beforehand) and love it, but am completely stuck on an intermediate plateau. I haven't been able to find detailed workflow to move ahead and have learned so much from watching your work. I'm so grateful, and going over to check out the rest of your stuff.

      No problem! Don't worry, I've hit many of those same plateaus myself and can totally relate. Really glad this video was able to help you out of it and that you're ready to keep on going. All the best :)

    Fantastic work, so glad found this. Got a lot of Frankentoons brushes for Procreate and Affinity, but struggling for some reason getting head around Designer. Photoshop I can do in my sleep but hate their payment model, and its become so damned slow and bloated! Keep up these vids mate, spread the word.

    • @RSKT_art
      @RSKT_art  3 года назад

      Thanks heaps! Yeah, Frankentoon's brushes, assets and artwork are just plain amazing. Love his work.
      Easiest way to think about Designer is basically 'designer persona' is a little bit of adobe illustrator and 'photo persona' is a little bit of adobe Photoshop (but without a lot of the photo editing stuff, you need affinity photo for that).
      I'm not a big fan of Adobe's payment plans either, but unfortunately I still pay a subscription for training people in and for some of the other work I do.
      I do love Affinity Though, even if there are some gripes I have with it. It just really clicks with me and my workflow in a good way.
      Stay tuned for some procreate stuff coming soon! :)

      Thanks! So glad you found it useful :) I think there's a new iPad coming out soon, so you might be able to pick up the current one pretty cheap. I got the 12.9" and honestly couldn't imagine drawing on anything smaller, but a busy of mine has an old standard size and he draws just fine with it. Hopefully you get what suits you :)
