Consciousness in brain activity is absolutely separate from normal activity in daily life experience. Consciousness in brain activity is so secret and unique, sometimes pleasant and sometimes so unimaginable in normal life. When reached to this point. The question we can Ask ourselves IS : since awareness IS Always there and everywhere ,when does it appears to itself being there? IS there a Key Factor of experiences , a Switch , a door , a all knowing revelation mathematical self-evidence?
An automatic secret wall unlocking After awareness successes to pass the end test game ? What triggers awareness to stick out and speak ?Is Being aware of itself enough?
My thoughts. I believe the evidence suggests there is no actual place to be. Our being is referred to as "I am" in the Bible. The Bible is without question an allegory which can be easily seen by anyone simply by investigating the original meaning of the words used in the Bible most importantly the names which can be seen as meaning the nature of what they identify as being. For example, Noah means peace and so the scripture reads, God came to peace, being still, when he saw that all he created was evil...
The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to St John means exactly what it says it means as the revealing of our true self as our being or I am presence. Revelation 1-5 , Jesus Christ said, I am the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead. The faithful witness is our awareness and the dead is the things of which we are aware including our apparent selves such as St. John in this case.
It's the same story as Noah, the walls of Jericho coming down for Joshua, Elijah bringing the child back to life by having the child sneeze 7 times symbolizing the purging of false belief as the world being the cause of things rather than the effect of our imagination.

Classic advaita wouldn't use the terms modifications of consciousness or refer to consciousness as pervading the universe but what really matters are the pointers and they are all there.
