  • How I look at a vintage speedmaster, when checking for quality originality and condition.
    Apologies for the orientation, I am a novice videographer.
    I go through my process examining the watch and evaluating it. If you follow what I do, then when you next buy a speedmaster you should end up with one that gives you pleasure.
    This channel replaces the earlier Speedmaster101 as I cannot convince the bots at RUclips that it is mine!
    For more Speedmaster Content then subscribe but also have a look at the site www.speedmaster101.com

    Thanks very much for the video. I'd love to see more... Some possible ideas - 1) Examine duration/colour/intensity of luminescence in the dark following the switching off of a light. Could compare new/old/re-touched side by side. 2) Show us your first speedmaster, tell us where you got it and how much it cost! 3) A video on any museum-piece speedmasters, as worn by astronauts, or otherwise untouched (this would obviously be a future non-lockdown project). 4) Discussion on crowns. I am not for example convinced that all original 105.012-66 crowns were indeed flat footed.

    Thank you for your videos. I was a "Space Kid". In 1969 my late mother and aunt went on a trip to Europe and Mom asked me what she could bring back for me. I immediately said, "A Speedmaster Omega." Literally the day after the moon landing Mom bought me this watch in Zurich for $115.00. It came with two bands, one leather and the bracelet. I still have it and although I retired it from daily use around 1980, when I was issued a Rolex Sea Dweller as part of my military service. To this day I wear it every July. The bracelet died around 1978 and I replaced it with a non-original bracelet. In 2011 I wondered if there were any authentic bracelets available. I found the exact bracelet (dated 1972, thank you Ebay) NOS in Australia. I do not have the end-caps, although so many years later I do not recall my watch having them when it was new. It has been cleaned twice and it is still as amazing as it was when new and has survived the decades looking far better than I.

    Hello from Seattle, Wa. I just recently discovered your videos, I’m truly impressed with the way you simplify and compartmentalize all of the subtleties that go into evaluating the condition of a Speedmaster. I’m interested in a birth year 1967, perhaps the Ed White. This evaluation doesn’t feel like something you can do through photos on the internet. Unless you see these in person, it can prove difficult to get the experience in handling and evaluating such pieces. Keep making the great content, I’m a new fan of your channel.

    Thank you for your well made and informative video. A while back I exchanged a 1943 Hanhart Flyback chronograph for a '68 Speedmaster and now I own a more recent '98 which i dare to wear and stare at on a daily basis 😍.

    Thanks for your videos. Just getting in to speedmaster interest. I see some described as 41mm rather than 42mm. Is that really a legitimate thing?

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  Год назад

      Yes, it is. Measurements are often misrepresented, or taken at different points on the case. I pay no attention to them.

    Which lever or levers do you touch to regulate the 861 movement?

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  3 года назад +1

      I do not touch the movement! If it does not keep time I am confident that there is nothing I can do to correct it. (I am no watchmaker!)

    • @terryjones5339
      @terryjones5339 3 года назад

      William Speedmaster101 Every automatic or self-wind watch has several levers to regulate the watch as close as possible to +/- zero seconds per +/- 5 seconds per day is my goal for all of my watches. My SpeedMaster is my only self-wind watch. I don’t want to attempt to regulate it closer to zero without knowing EXACTLY witch lever of the three levers to adjust.
      Do you have or do you know a reference that addresses this particular issue?
      Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Could SP = "Serviced" pushers?

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  3 года назад

      Well I would assume that anything it stood for was french. It has been postulated that SP= "Speciale Poussoirs" but I dont that works either

    Omega’s movement frequency and sub-second marker MISMATCH is FRAUD. They use 6 and 8 Vibr/Second movements combined with 1/5th sec markers on the dial. The chronograph hand misses all sub-second markers on all of these speedmasters, cannot be stoppoed on any of these markers, for almost 60 years, and no one talks about it. DESIGN FRAUD for profit.
