Love the song and the scene. Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner made a good team in the films they made together. I love when Ava says, "I'm my OWN lady", certainly not typical 50's dialogue for women, but probably true for Ava in her real life. The next scene that is about to play but got cut off near the end is probably my favorite moment in the entire movie.

I guess this was a classic old-time bistro - they don't have places like this anymore.

THis is great bluesy jazz...but the following scene with Peck staring down into the river is the really great music cue

The woman plastered against the wall behind Benny Carter is absolutely classically awesome 1950s ...
I guess this was a classic old-time bistro ... they don't have places like this anymore ... I hate this FUCKING world!

Sounds a lot like some Billy Strayhorn composition. Alto player is either Benny Carter or Johnny Hodges. Hard to tell from blurry brief look.

Ava made this movie, and Greg and Ava always worked together so very well. it was a very good movie, although Ernest Hemingway disdainfully called it The Snows of Darryl Zanuck. no matter. it is memorable, and a great big commercial success. wasn't it. Ernest? you did not mind the money they paid you to film it, did you. didn't think so.
